180. Seismic Active Earth Pressure of Limited Backfill with Curved Slip Surface Considering Intermediate Principal Stress.

Abstract

The traditional method for seismic earth pressure calculation has certain limitations for retaining structures under complex conditions. For example, when the soil width is small, the results obtained by the traditional method will be much larger. Therefore, this paper assumes that the soil slip surface is a logarithmic spiral. Based on the plane strain unified strength theory formula, while also considering the soil arching effects and tension cracks, the analytical solutions of the lateral earth pressure coefficient and the active earth pressure under the earthquake action were deduced. The mechanism and distribution of seismic active earth pressure with limited width were discussed in terms of some relevant parameters. The results indicated that the seismic active earth pressure presented a "convex" nonlinear distribution along the retaining structure. As the contribution of the intermediate principal stress increased, the strength limit of the material was effectively utilized, and the earth pressure was reduced by 22.96%. The resultant force increased as the horizontal seismic coefficient increased. However, this effect was no longer evident when the wall–soil friction angle was close to the internal friction angle. The resultant force action point increased with the wall–soil friction angle, and it should be noted that h a > H / 3 was true when δ / φ 0 > 0.55 . Finally, by drawing a comparison with previous studies, we verified that the method proposed in this paper is reasonable and can provide a new idea for subsequent 3D seismic earth pressure research. Abstract

Both nanoscale surface modification and structural control play significant roles in enhancing the electrochemical properties of battery electrodes. Herein, we design a novel binder-free anode via N-doped graphene quantum dot (N-GQD) decorated Na₂Ti₃O₇ nanofibre arrays (Na₂Ti₃O₇ NFAs) directly grown on flexible carbon textiles (CTs) for high-performance sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). Three dimensional (3D) hierarchical Na₂Ti₃O₇ NFAs constructed from ultrathin Na₂Ti₃O₇ nanosheets provide a large specific surface area and shorter diffusion paths for both ions and electrons. More importantly, the unique N-GQD soft protection produces greatly increased surface conductivity and imparts stability to the nanofibre array structure, leading to fast Na-ion diffusion kinetics. As a result, the flexible 3D hierarchical Na₂Ti₃O₇@N-GQDs/CT electrode as a binder-free anode for a sodium half-battery delivers a high specific capacity of 158 mA h g⁻¹ after 30 cycles and retains ∼92.5% of this capacity after 1000 cycles at a high rate of 4C (1C = 177 mA g⁻¹). Furthermore, it can be assembled into a flexible full cell with Na₃V₂(PO₄)₃@NC/CTs as the cathode, which exhibits high levels of flexibility, excellent long-term cycling stability, and outstanding energy/power density. Our results open up a new approach for the surface modification strategy to enhance the performance of battery electrodes. Abstract

Two-dimensional (2D) 1T-phase transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) have been considered as ideal candidate electrocatalysts compared to their 2H-phase counterpart. However, their practical applications are hugely limited by unsatisfactory yields and air instability. Here, we reported a simple and facile approach to fabricate large-area layer-tunable 1T-phase PtSe2 films with rich active edges on carbon cloth (1T-PtSe2@CC) through a thermally assisted transformation of sputtered Pt films for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in acidic media, and systematically studied the influence of layer thickness on the HER performance. The vertically aligned layer structures of 1T-PtSe2 with numerous active edges, combined with the highly conductive CC substrate, ensured high electron transfer efficiency. From the electrochemical characterization, we found that the binder-free electrode of 1T-PtSe2@CC with a 51.1-nm-thick PtSe2 film exhibited a low overpotential of 177 mV at a current density of −10 mA cm−2 and a favourable Tafel slope of 67 mV dec−1 with good stability, which are much better than those of most of the 2D materials used for HER systems. These findings signify that the large-scale growth of edge-rich 1T-PtSe2 holds great promise for high-performance HER applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
