- Abstract
CO2 capture, utilization and storage has been recognized as a primary option to mitigate the issue of climate change caused by the utilization of fossil fuels. Several CO2 capture strategies have been developed, such as absorption, adsorption, membrane, chemical looping, hydrating and biofixation. Among different technologies, particular attention has been given to cryogenic CO2 capture by phase change. The aim of this study is to improve interest in cryogenic technologies for CO2 capture by providing an overview of the actual status of CCS. To reach this goal, the major strategies and technologies for CO2 capture from fossil fuel combustion have been reviewed. Simultaneously, the characteristics of cryogenic technologies for CO2 capture are summarized. The existing challenges that need to be overcome in cryogenic technology include cold energy sources, capture costs and impurities, etc. Finally, opportunities for the future development of cryogenic-based technologies are discussed. The results of this investigation indicated that cryogenic CO2 capture processes can be easily retrofitted to the existing industrial emission facilities and avoid the challenges associated with chemical solvents or physical sorbents.

Skin cancer is an important complication in renal transplant recipients. Associations of transplant-related skin tumor with ultraviolet radiation, age at transplantation, type of immunosuppressant drug administered, and viral infection have been reported; however, the details remain unclear. We report a 61-year-old man who had underwent renal transplantation at 38 years of age and developed multiple skin tumors or squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs). Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analyses of the patient's 12 tumors for viral DNAs of cutaneous or mucosal human papillomavirus (HPV) and 6 human polyomaviruses (MCPyV, trichodysplasia spinulosa-associated, BK, JC, KI and WU polyomaviruses) only detected cutaneous HPV-DNA in only 5 of the tumors; no other viruses were detected. Real-time PCR showed high loads of cutaneous HPV in 3 SCCs and very low loads of MCPyV in 9. Immunohistochemistry revealed no tumor cell expression for MCPyV-large T-antigen or mucosal HPV. Our report not only reconfirmed the association of cutaneous HPV5 with skin cancer in renal transplant recipients in previous studies but also showed no relevant association of 6 human polyomaviruses and mucosal HPV with skin tumors.

This paper presents the results of different searches for correlations between very high-energy neutrino candidates detected by IceCube and the highest-energy cosmic rays measured by the Pierre Auger Observatory and the Telescope Array. We first consider samples of cascade neutrino events and of high-energy neutrino-induced muon tracks, which provided evidence for a neutrino flux of astrophysical origin, and study their cross-correlation with the ultrahigh-energy cosmic ray (UHECR) samples as a function of angular separation. We also study their possible directional correlations using a likelihood method stacking the neutrino arrival directions and adopting different assumptions on the size of the UHECR magnetic deflections. Finally, we perform another likelihood analysis stacking the UHECR directions and using a sample of through-going muon tracks optimized for neutrino point-source searches with sub-degree angular resolution. No indications of correlations at discovery level are obtained for any of the searches performed. The smallest of the p-values comes from the search for correlation between UHECRs with IceCube high-energy cascades, a result that should continue to be monitored., Comment: Replaced with published version. - Abstract
Japan is still a medium-burden tuberculosis (TB) country. We aimed to examine trends in newly notified active TB incidence and TB-related mortality in the last two decades in Japan. This is a population-based study using Japanese Vital Statistics and Japan Tuberculosis Surveillance from 1997 to 2016. We determined active TB incidence and mortality rates (per 100 000 population) by sex, age and disease categories. Joinpoint regression was applied to calculate the annual percentage change (APC) in age-adjusted mortality rates and to identify the years showing significant trend changes. Crude and age-adjusted incidence rates reduced from 33.9 to 13.9 and 37.3 to 11.3 per 100 000 population, respectively. Also, crude and age-adjusted mortality rates reduced from 2.2 to 1.5 and 2.8 to 1.0 per 100 000 population, respectively. Average APC in the incidence and mortality rates showed significant decline both in men (−6.2% and −5.4%, respectively) and women (−5.7% and −4.6%, respectively). Age-specific analysis demonstrated decreases in incidence and mortality rates for every age category, except for the incidence trend in the younger population. Although trends in active TB incidence and mortality rates in Japan have favourably decreased, the rate of decline is far from achieving TB elimination by 2035.

197. A 1000 AU Scale Molecular Outflow Driven by a Candidate First Hydrostatic Core in a filament supported by MHD turbulence

- Abstract
To shed light on the physical properties of a first hydrostatic core, first core, in low-mass protostar formation process, we conducted interferometric observations towards an exceptionally young ``proto"star GF9-2 using the CARMA and SMA. The observations have been carried out in the CO J=3-2 line and in the continuum emission at the wavelengths of 3.3 mm, 1.1 mm and 850 micron with a spatial resolution of ~400 AU. Our spectroscopic imaging of the CO line revealed that the continuum source is driving a 1000 AU scale molecular outflow, including a pair of lobes where a collimated ``higher" velocity (~10 km/s with respect to the velocity of the cloud) red lobe exists inside a poorly collimated ``lower" velocity (~5 km/s) red lobe. These lobes are found to be one of the youngest (dynamical time scales of ~500 - 3000 yrs) and the least powerful (momentum rates of ~10^{-7}-10^{-6} Msun kms/yr) ones so far detected. All the continuum images detected a single point-like source with an effective beam-deconvolve radius of 250 AU at the center of the 3.5 Sun molecular cloud core. Analyzing the spectral energy distribution of the continuum emission, we estimated a ``circum"stellar mass of the gas and dust to be M_csm ~ 8x10^{-3} Msun within ~400 AU in radius, a ``stellar surface" temperature of T* ~ 150 K with an assumption of a ``stellar radius" of 5 AU and a bolometric luminosity of 0.06 Lsun. In addition, a ``stellar" mass of M* < 0.07 +/- 0.02 Msun was estimated using the previously obtained upper limit of the ``stellar" age of tau_* < (2.7 +/- 0.5) x 10^3 yrs and the mass accretion rate of dM/dt_acc = 2.5 x 10^{-5} Msun yr^{-1}. All the observational facts assessed so far reinforces an assertion that the continuum source represents a first core candidate.

We present our findings in a case of central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) that developed in a patient while being treatedwith intravenous cisplatin (CDDP) and etoposide (VP16) for small cell lung cancer. The patient was a 67-year-old womanwho had lung lobectomy for small cell lung cancer. She began adjuvant chemotherapy with CDDP and VP16 after thesurgery, and after 13 days of chemotherapy, she developed a sudden painless decrease of vision in her left eye. She wasreferred to Department of Ophthalmology, and our examination found that her decimal visual acuities were 1.0 OD andlight perception OS. Fluorescein angiography showed a CRAO in her left eye. Two months later, she had a sharp pain inthe left eye because of neovascular glaucoma, and cyclophotocoagulation was immediately performed. Although her visual function did not recover completely (light perception OS), the pain was alleviated after the cyclophotocoagulation. Physicalexaminations showed no additional abnormalities of the cardiovascular system. Although a CRAO during chemotherapyis extremely rare, ophthalmologists and internists should remember that a CRAO can develop in patients undergoing combined chemotherapy even though other cardiovascular events may not be present.
