Abstract

Data centers and cloud environments have recently started providing graphic processing unit (GPU)-based infrastructure services. Actual general purpose GPU (GPGPU) applications have low GPU utilization, unlike GPU-friendly applications. To improve the resource utilization of GPUs, there is the need for the concurrent execution of different applications while sharing resources in a streaming multiprocessor (SM). However, it is difficult to predict the execution performance of applications because resource contention can be caused by intra-SM multitasking. Furthermore, it is crucial to find the best resource partitioning and an execution set of applications that show the best performance among many applications. To address this, the current paper proposes K-Scheduler, a multitasking placement scheduler based on the intra-SM resource-use characteristics of applications. First, the resource-use and multitasking characteristics of applications are analyzed according to their classification and their individual execution characteristics. Rules for concurrent execution are derived according to each observation, and scheduling is performed according to the corresponding rules. The results verified that the total workload execution performance of K-Scheduler improved by 18% compared to previous studies, and individual execution performance improved by 32%. Abstract

In this study, we examined the adequacy of supply and demand under private expansion of the long-term care (LTC) infrastructure after the introduction of long-term care insurance (LTCI) for the older people in Korea. We used Coulter's coefficient of inequality (Coulter index) to analyze the equity of LTC services by region. In addition, we analyzed the trend of equity changes through equity analysis for three time points: 2000, 2008, and 2015. We found that the level of inequity in LTC service infrastructure in Korea is lower in 2015 compared with 2000, but the differences among regions are high. The adjustment factors in 2015 showed prominent shortages of facilities in urban areas and oversupply in suburban areas. Based on these results, we propose an LTC service infrastructure that meets the demand and improves service access according to regional characteristics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Developing polymeric membranes with propylene/propane separation performance surpassing the upper bound has been received much attention. Herein, a highly controlled thermal treatment process yielding microporous polyimide membranes made from dense brominated-polyimide membrane precursor via thermal debromination/cross-linking approach is demonstrated. We showed that facile thermal treatment could generate a narrow size distribution of micro-voids as well as covalent linkages between inter/intra polymer chains while the polyimide backbone structure remained intact. The thermally treated membranes were well-characterized by FTIR, TGA, WAXD, solid-state 13C NMR and N2 adsorption/desorption isotherm. Single gas propylene/propane (C3H6/C3H8) separation performance greatly improved in terms of both selectivity and permeability, surpassing the trade-off line while maintaining flexible membrane properties. A thermal cross-linking treatment at 380 °C for 5 h exhibited the best C3H6 permeability of 84.70 barrer and C3H6/C3H8 selectivity of 14.6 with high plasticization resistance.
