151. SegRCDB: Semantic Segmentation via Formula-Driven Supervised Learning

Abstract: Pre-training is a strong strategy for enhancing visual models to efficiently train them with a limited number of labeled images. In semantic segmentation, creating annotation masks requires an intensive amount of labor and time, and therefore, a large-scale pre-training dataset with semantic labels is quite difficult to construct. Moreover, what matters in semantic segmentation pre-training has not been fully investigated. In this paper, we propose the Segmentation Radial Contour DataBase (SegRCDB), which for the first time applies formula-driven supervised learning for semantic segmentation. SegRCDB enables pre-training for semantic segmentation without real images or any manual semantic labels. SegRCDB is based on insights about what is important in pre-training for semantic segmentation and allows efficient pre-training. Pre-training with SegRCDB achieved higher mIoU than the pre-training with COCO-Stuff for fine-tuning on ADE-20k and Cityscapes with the same number of training images. SegRCDB has a high potential to contribute to semantic segmentation pre-training and investigation by enabling the creation of large datasets without manual annotation. 152. Diffusion-based Holistic Texture Rectification and Synthesis

Abstract: We present a novel framework for rectifying occlusions and distortions in degraded texture samples from natural images. Traditional texture synthesis approaches focus on generating textures from pristine samples, which necessitate meticulous preparation by humans and are often unattainable in most natural images. These challenges stem from the frequent occlusions and distortions of texture samples in natural images due to obstructions and variations in object surface geometry. To address these issues, we propose a framework that synthesizes holistic textures from degraded samples in natural images, extending the applicability of exemplar-based texture synthesis techniques. Our framework utilizes a conditional Latent Diffusion Model (LDM) with a novel occlusion-aware latent transformer. This latent transformer not only effectively encodes texture features from partially-observed samples necessary for the generation process of the LDM, but also explicitly captures long-range dependencies in samples with large occlusions. To train our model, we introduce a method for generating synthetic data by applying geometric transformations and free-form mask generation to clean textures. Experimental results demonstrate that our framework significantly outperforms existing methods both quantitatively and quantitatively. Furthermore, we conduct comprehensive ablation studies to validate the different components of our proposed framework. 153. Panchromatic (Sub)millimeter Polarization Observations of HL Tau Unveil Aligned Scattering Grains

Abstract: Polarization is a unique tool to study the properties of dust grains of protoplanetary disks and detail the initial conditions of planet formation. Polarization around HL Tau was previously imaged using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) at Bands 3 (3.1 mm), 6 (1.3 mm), and 7 (0.87 mm), showing that the polarization orientation changes across wavelength $\lambda$. The polarization morphology at Band 7 is predominantly parallel to the disk minor axis but appears azimuthally oriented at Band 3, with the morphology at Band 6 in between the two. We present new ~0.2" (29 au) polarization observations at Q-Band (7.0 mm) using the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) and at Bands 4 (2.1 mm), 5 (1.5 mm), and 7 using ALMA, consolidating HL Tau's position as the protoplanetary disk with the most complete wavelength coverage in dust polarization. The polarization patterns at Bands 4 and 5 continue to follow the morphological transition with wavelength previously identified in Bands 3, 6, and 7. Based on the azimuthal variation, we decompose the polarization into contributions from scattering ($s$) and thermal emission ($t$). We find that $s$ decreases slowly with increasing $\lambda$, and $t$ increases more rapidly with $\lambda$ which are expected from optical depth effects of toroidally aligned, scattering prolate grains. The relatively weak $\lambda$ dependence of $s$ is consistent with large, porous grains. Abstract: Galaxy clusters are expected to be dark matter (DM) reservoirs and storage rooms for the cosmic-ray protons (CRp) that accumulate along the cluster's formation history. Accordingly, they are excellent targets to search for signals of DM annihilation and decay at gamma-ray energies and are predicted to be sources of large-scale gamma-ray emission due to hadronic interactions in the intracluster medium. We estimate the sensitivity of the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) to detect diffuse gamma-ray emission from the Perseus galaxy cluster. We perform a detailed spatial and spectral modelling of the expected signal for the DM and the CRp components. For each, we compute the expected CTA sensitivity. The observing strategy of Perseus is also discussed. In the absence of a diffuse signal (non-detection), CTA should constrain the CRp to thermal energy ratio within the radius $R_{500}$ down to about $X_{500}<3\times 10^{-3}$, for a spatial CRp distribution that follows the thermal gas and a CRp spectral index $\alpha_{\rm CRp}=2.3$. Under the optimistic assumption of a pure hadronic origin of the Perseus radio mini-halo and depending on the assumed magnetic field profile, CTA should measure $\alpha_{\rm CRp}$ down to about $\Delta\alpha_{\rm CRp}\simeq 0.1$ and the CRp spatial distribution with 10% precision. Regarding DM, CTA should improve the current ground-based gamma-ray DM limits from clusters observations on the velocity-averaged annihilation cross-section by a factor of up to $\sim 5$, depending on the modelling of DM halo substructure. In the case of decay of DM particles, CTA will explore a new region of the parameter space, reaching models with $\tau_{\chi}>10^{27}$s for DM masses above 1 TeV. These constraints will provide unprecedented sensitivity to the physics of both CRp acceleration and transport at cluster scale and to TeV DM particle models, especially in the decay scenario., Comment: 93 pages (including author list, appendix and references), 143 figures. Abstract: We present a deep-dive into a real-world robotic learning system that, in previous work, was shown to be capable of hundreds of table tennis rallies with a human and has the ability to precisely return the ball to desired targets. This system puts together a highly optimized perception subsystem, a high-speed low-latency robot controller, a simulation paradigm that can prevent damage in the real world and also train policies for zero-shot transfer, and automated real world environment resets that enable autonomous training and evaluation on physical robots. We complement a complete system description, including numerous design decisions that are typically not widely disseminated, with a collection of studies that clarify the importance of mitigating various sources of latency, accounting for training and deployment distribution shifts, robustness of the perception system, sensitivity to policy hyper-parameters, and choice of action space. 156. Toward Defensive Letter Design

Abstract: A major approach for defending against adversarial attacks aims at controlling only image classifiers to be more resilient, and it does not care about visual objects, such as pandas and cars, in images. This means that visual objects themselves cannot take any defensive actions, and they are still vulnerable to adversarial attacks. In contrast, letters are artificial symbols, and we can freely control their appearance unless losing their readability. In other words, we can make the letters more defensive to the attacks. This paper poses three research questions related to the adversarial vulnerability of letter images: (1) How defensive are the letters against adversarial attacks? (2) Can we estimate how defensive a given letter image is before attacks? (3) Can we control the letter images to be more defensive against adversarial attacks? For answering the first and second questions, we measure the defensibility of letters by employing Iterative Fast Gradient Sign Method (I-FGSM) and then build a deep regression model for estimating the defensibility of each letter image. 157. Exploring Limits of Diffusion-Synthetic Training with Weakly Supervised Semantic Segmentation

Abstract: The advance of generative models for images has inspired various training techniques for image recognition utilizing synthetic images. In semantic segmentation, one promising approach is extracting pseudo-masks from attention maps in text-to-image diffusion models, which enables real-image-and-annotation-free training. However, the pioneering training method using the diffusion-synthetic images and pseudo-masks, i.e., DiffuMask has limitations in terms of mask quality, scalability, and ranges of applicable domains. To overcome these limitations, this work introduces three techniques for diffusion-synthetic semantic segmentation training. First, reliability-aware robust training, originally used in weakly supervised learning, helps segmentation with insufficient synthetic mask quality. %Second, large-scale pretraining of whole segmentation models, not only backbones, on synthetic ImageNet-1k-class images with pixel-labels benefits downstream segmentation tasks. Second, we introduce prompt augmentation, data augmentation to the prompt text set to scale up and diversify training images with a limited text resources. Finally, LoRA-based adaptation of Stable Diffusion enables the transfer to a distant domain, e.g., auto-driving images. Experiments in PASCAL VOC, ImageNet-S, and Cityscapes show that our method effectively closes gap between real and synthetic training in semantic segmentation.

Abstract: We report an updated measurement of the $\nu_{\mu}$-induced, and the first measurement of the $\bar{\nu}_{\mu}$-induced coherent charged pion production cross section on $^{12}C$ nuclei in the T2K experiment. This is measured in a restricted region of the final-state phase space for which $p_{\mu,\pi} > 0.2$ GeV, $\cos(\theta_{\mu}) > 0.8$ and $\cos(\theta_{\pi}) > 0.6$, and at a mean (anti)neutrino energy of 0.85 GeV using the T2K near detector. The measured $\nu_{\mu}$ CC coherent pion production flux-averaged cross section on $^{12}C$ is $(2.98 \pm 0.37 (stat.) \pm 0.31 (syst.) \substack{ +0.49 \\ -0.00 } \mathrm{ (Q^2\,model)}) \times 10^{-40}~\mathrm{cm}^{2}$. The new measurement of the $\bar{\nu}_{\mu}$-induced cross section on $^{12}{C}$ is $(3.05 \pm 0.71 (stat.) \pm 0.39 (syst.) \substack{ +0.74 \\ -0.00 } \mathrm{(Q^2\,model)}) \times 10^{-40}~\mathrm{cm}^{2}$. The results are compatible with both the NEUT 5.4.0 Berger-Sehgal (2009) and GENIE 2.8.0 Rein-Sehgal (2007) model predictions.

159. Constraints on the dust size distributions in the HD 163296 disk from the difference of the apparent dust ring widths between two ALMA Bands

Abstract: The dust size in protoplanetary disks is a crucial parameter for understanding planet formation, while the observational constraints on dust size distribution have large uncertainties. In this study, we present a new method to constrain the dust size distribution from the dust spatial distribution, utilizing the fact that larger dust grains are more spatially localized. We analyze the ALMA Band 6 (1.25 mm) and Band 4 (2.14 mm) high-resolution images and constrain the dust size distribution in the two rings of the HD 163296 disk. We find that the outer ring at 100 au appears narrower at the longer wavelengths, while the inner ring at 67 au appears to have similar widths across the two wavelengths. We model dust rings trapped at gas pressure maxima, where the dust grains follow a power-law size distribution, and the dust grains of a specific size follow a Gaussian spatial distribution with the width depending on the grain size. By comparing the observations with the models, we constrain the maximum dust size $a_{\mathrm{max}}$ and the exponent of the dust size distribution $p$. We constrain that $0.9 \ \mathrm{mm} < a_{\mathrm{max}} < 5 \ \mathrm{mm}$ and $p < 3.3$ in the inner ring, and $a_{\mathrm{max}} > 3 \times 10^1 \ \mathrm{mm}$ and $3.4 < p < 3.7$ in the outer ring. The larger maximum dust size in the outer ring implies a spatial dependency in dust growth, potentially influencing the formation location of the planetesimals. We further discuss the turbulence strength $\alpha$ derived from the constrained dust spatial distribution, assuming equilibrium between turbulent diffusion and accumulation of dust grains., Comment: 29 pages, 16 figures. Abstract: Formula-driven supervised learning (FDSL) is a pre-training method that relies on synthetic images generated from mathematical formulae such as fractals. Prior work on FDSL has shown that pre-training vision transformers on such synthetic datasets can yield competitive accuracy on a wide range of downstream tasks. These synthetic images are categorized according to the parameters in the mathematical formula that generate them. In the present work, we hypothesize that the process for generating different instances for the same category in FDSL, can be viewed as a form of data augmentation. We validate this hypothesis by replacing the instances with data augmentation, which means we only need a single image per category. Our experiments shows that this one-instance fractal database (OFDB) performs better than the original dataset where instances were explicitly generated. We further scale up OFDB to 21,000 categories and show that it matches, or even surpasses, the model pre-trained on ImageNet-21k in ImageNet-1k fine-tuning. The number of images in OFDB is 21k, whereas ImageNet-21k has 14M. This opens new possibilities for pre-training vision transformers with much smaller datasets., Comment: Accepted to ICCV 2023

161. Dust enrichment and grain growth in a smooth disk around the DG Tau protostar revealed by ALMA triple bands frequency observations

Abstract: Characterizing the physical properties of dust grains in a protoplanetary disk is critical to comprehending the planet formation process. Our study presents ALMA high-resolution observations of the young protoplanetary disk around DG Tau at a 1.3 mm dust continuum. The observations, with a spatial resolution of $\approx 0.04''$, or $\approx5$ au, revealed a geometrically thin and smooth disk without substantial substructures, suggesting that the disk retains the initial conditions of the planet formation. To further analyze the distributions of dust surface density, temperature, and grain size, we conducted a multi-band analysis with several dust models, incorporating ALMA archival data of the 0.87 mm and 3.1 mm dust polarization. The results showed that the Toomre $Q$ parameter is $\lesssim2$ at a 20 au radius, assuming a dust-to-gas mass ratio of 0.01. This implies that a higher dust-to-gas mass ratio is necessary to stabilize the disk. The grain sizes depend on the dust models, and for the DSHARP compact dust, they were found to be smaller than $\sim400$ $\mu$m in the inner region ($r\lesssim20$ au), while exceeding larger than 3 mm in the outer part. Radiative transfer calculations show that the dust scale height is lower than at least one-third of the gas scale height. These distributions of dust enrichment, grain sizes, and weak turbulence strength may have significant implications for the formation of planetesimals through mechanisms such as streaming instability. Abstract: We present 294 pulsars found in GeV data from the Large Area Telescope (LAT) on the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. Another 33 millisecond pulsars (MSPs) discovered in deep radio searches of LAT sources will likely reveal pulsations once phase-connected rotation ephemerides are achieved. A further dozen optical and/or X-ray binary systems co-located with LAT sources also likely harbor gamma-ray MSPs. This catalog thus reports roughly 340 gamma-ray pulsars and candidates, 10% of all known pulsars, compared to $\leq 11$ known before Fermi. Half of the gamma-ray pulsars are young. Of these, the half that are undetected in radio have a broader Galactic latitude distribution than the young radio-loud pulsars. The others are MSPs, with 6 undetected in radio. Overall, >235 are bright enough above 50 MeV to fit the pulse profile, the energy spectrum, or both. For the common two-peaked profiles, the gamma-ray peak closest to the magnetic pole crossing generally has a softer spectrum. The spectral energy distributions tend to narrow as the spindown power $\dot E$ decreases to its observed minimum near $10^{33}$ erg s$^{-1}$, approaching the shape for synchrotron radiation from monoenergetic electrons. We calculate gamma-ray luminosities when distances are available. Our all-sky gamma-ray sensitivity map is useful for population syntheses. 163. Preoperative abaloparatide plus zoledronate treatment accelerates femoral bone healing in rats following osteotomy

Abstract: Purpose: We investigated the potential efficacy of abaloparatide (Abalo) and zoledronate (ZA) combination therapy for accelerating femoral union in a rat osteotomy model. Methods: Nine-week-old male Sprague–Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups ( n = 14 per group): control, abaloparatide (Abalo, 30 μg/kg via subcutaneous injection [s.c.] 5 times per week for 6 weeks), zoledronate (ZA; 0.1 mg/kg via s.c., single dose), and Abalo + ZA. Rats were then subjected to unilateral osteotomy of the femoral shaft, followed by osteosynthesis with intramedullary nailing to establish bone healing models. At 2 and 4 weeks after osteotomy, both femurs were removed from seven rats per group for soft X-ray imaging to evaluate bone union and microcomputed tomography (micro-CT) for bone morphometric evaluation. Blood samples were collected from all rats every 2 week starting 6 weeks pre- to 4 weeks postosteotomy. Toluidine blue staining was used for histopathological evaluation of the undecalcified specimens. Results: Soft X-ray imaging revealed accelerated callus formation, callus maturation, and fracture line closure in Abalo and Abalo + ZA groups compared to ZA and control groups. Micro-CT demonstrated greater cortical bone and trabecular bone to total volume ratios in contralateral (left) femurs of the Abalo + ZA group compared to the Abalo group. Both trabecular and cortical bone mineral densities were also greater in contralateral femurs of the Abalo + ZA group compared to Abalo and ZA groups. Conclusion: These findings suggest substantial additive or synergistic efficacy of abaloparatide plus zoledronate combination therapy for accelerating bone healing following osteotomy and for maintaining normal bone health.

Abstract: Background: There are reports indicating that between 10 and 38.5 % of patients with chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI) have an os subfibulare. In cases where CLAI accompanied by os subfibulare is resistant to conservative treatment, surgery may be necessary; however, there is no consensus on the most appropriate surgical method. We report outcomes of arthroscopic lateral ligament repair for chronic lateral ankle instability with os subfibulare at our hospital, followed for over 2 years post-operatively. Methods: We reviewed 33 patients (39 ankles) whom underwent arthroscopic lateral ankle ligament repair (ALLR) for CLAI and followed for at least 2 years post-operatively between November 2015 and May 2020. Patients were classified into two groups: a group with os subfibulare (ossicle group) and a group without os subfibulare (non-ossicle group), based on the presence of an os subfibulare on pre-operative plain radiographs. ALLR surgeries were performed without resection of the os subfibulare in ossicle group. Clinical outcomes were assessed using the Japanese Society for Surgery of the Foot (JSSF) scale and the Self-administered Foot Evaluation Questionnaire (SAFE-Q). In addition, the bone-union rate was evaluated by using plain computer tomography in the ossicle group. Results: There were significant improvements in the mean total JSSF scale scores from pre-operative to post-operative measurements in both the ossicle and non-ossicle groups. The mean scores for pain and related symptoms, foot function and activities of daily living, social functioning, shoe-related, and general health and well-being subscales of the SAFE-Q also showed significant improvements in both groups. There were no significant differences between the post-operative ossicle and non-ossicle groups regarding the JSSF scale scores or the SAFE-Q subscale scores. In the ossicle group, the bone-union rate was 14.3 % (2 of 14 ankles), but no symptom recurrence was observed. Conclusion: The 2 years outcomes of arthroscopic lateral ligament repair for chronic lateral ankle instability with os subfibulare revealed good results and no symptom recurrence.

Abstract: CTA (Cherenkov Telescope Array) is the next generation ground-based observatory for gamma-ray astronomy at very-high energies. The Large-Sized Telescope prototype (LST-1) is located at the Northern site of CTA, on the Canary Island of La Palma. LSTs are designed to provide optimal performance in the lowest part of the energy range covered by CTA, down to $\simeq 20$ GeV. LST-1 started performing astronomical observations in November 2019, during its commissioning phase, and it has been taking data since then. We present the first LST-1 observations of the Crab Nebula, the standard candle of very-high energy gamma-ray astronomy, and use them, together with simulations, to assess the basic performance parameters of the telescope. The data sample consists of around 36 hours of observations at low zenith angles collected between November 2020 and March 2022. LST-1 has reached the expected performance during its commissioning period - only a minor adjustment of the preexisting simulations was needed to match the telescope behavior. The energy threshold at trigger level is estimated to be around 20 GeV, rising to $\simeq 30$ GeV after data analysis. Performance parameters depend strongly on energy, and on the strength of the gamma-ray selection cuts in the analysis: angular resolution ranges from 0.12 to 0.40 degrees, and energy resolution from 15 to 50%. Flux sensitivity is around 1.1% of the Crab Nebula flux above 250 GeV for a 50-h observation (12% for 30 minutes). The spectral energy distribution (in the 0.03 - 30 TeV range) and the light curve obtained for the Crab Nebula agree with previous measurements, considering statistical and systematic uncertainties. 190. Formulating Compressive Strength of Dust Aggregates from Low to High Volume Filling Factors with Numerical Simulations

Abstract: Compressive strength is a key to understanding the internal structure of dust aggregates in protoplanetary disks and their resultant bodies, such as comets and asteroids in the Solar System. Previous work has modeled the compressive strength of highly-porous dust aggregates with volume filling factors lower than 0.1. However, a comprehensive understanding of the compressive strength from low ($<0.1$) to high ($>0.1$) volume filling factors is lacking. In this paper, we investigate the compressive strength of dust aggregates by using aggregate compression simulations resolving constituent grains based on JKR theory to formulate the compressive strength comprehensively. We perform a series of numerical simulations with moving periodic boundaries mimicking the compression behavior. As a result, we find that the compressive strength becomes sharply harder when the volume filling factor exceeds 0.1. We succeed in formulating the compressive strength comprehensively by taking into account the rolling motion of aggregates for low volume filling factors and the closest packing of aggregates for high volume filling factors. We also find that the dominant compression mechanisms for high volume filling factors are sliding and twisting motions, while rolling motion dominates for low volume filling factors. We confirm that our results are in good agreement with previous numerical studies. We suggest that our analytical formula is consistent with the previous experimental results if we assume the surface energy of silicate is $\simeq210\pm90\mathrm{\ mJ\ m^{-2}}$. 191. Porous Dust Particles in Protoplanetary Disks: Application to the HL Tau Disk

Abstract: Dust particle sizes constrained from dust continuum and polarization observations by radio interferometry are inconsistent by at least an order of magnitude. Motivated by porous dust observed in small Solar System bodies (e.g., from the Rosetta mission), we explore how the dust particle's porosity affects the estimated particle sizes from these two methods. Porous particles have lower refractive indices, which affect both opacity and polarization fraction. With weaker Mie interference patterns, the porous particles have lower opacity at mm wavelengths than the compact particles if the particle size exceeds several hundred microns. Consequently, the inferred dust mass using porous particles can be up to a factor of six higher. The most significant difference between compact and porous particles is their scattering properties. The porous particles have a wider range of particle sizes with high linear polarization from dust self-scattering, allowing mm-cm-sized particles to explain polarization observations. With a Bayesian approach, we use porous particles to fit HL Tau disk's multi-wavelength continuum and mm-polarization observations from ALMA and VLA. The moderately porous particles with sizes from 1 mm-1 m can explain both continuum and polarization observations, especially in the region between 20-60 au. If the particles in HL Tau are porous, the porosity should be from 70% to 97% from current polarization observations. 192. Probing the Temperature Structure of the Inner Region of a Protoplanetary Disk

Abstract: Midplane heating induced by disk accretion plays a key role in determining the disk temperature particularly at the inner disk midplane where planets form. However, the efficiency of accretion heating has been not well constrained by observations. We construct two-dimensional models of the Class II disk around CW Tau, taking into account the midplane heating. The models are compared with the ALMA dust continuum observations at Bands 4, 6, 7 and 8, with an angular resolution of 0.1 arcsec. The observed brightness temperatures are almost wavelength-indenpendent at $\lesssim$10 au. We find that if the maximum dust size $a_{\rm max}$ is $\lesssim100~{\rm \mu m}$, the brightness temperatures predicted by the model exceed the observed values, regardless of the efficiency of accretion heating. The low observed brightness temperatures can be explained if millimeter scattering reduces the intensity. If the disk is passive, $a_{\rm max}$ needs to be either $\sim150~{\rm \mu m}$ or $\gtrsim$ few ${\rm cm}$. The accretion heating significantly increases the brightness temperature particularly when $a_{\rm max}\lesssim300~{\rm \mu m}$, and hence $a_{\rm max}$ needs to be either $\sim300~{\rm \mu m}$ or $\gtrsim$ few ${\rm cm}$. The midplane temperature is expected to be $\sim$1.5-3 times higher than the observed brightness temperatures, depending on the models. The dust settling effectively increases the temperature of the dust responsible for the millimeter emission in the active disk, which makes the model with $300~{\rm \mu m}$-sized dust overpredicts the brightness temperatures when strong turbulence is absent. Porous dust (porosity of 0.9) makes the accretion heating more efficient so that some sort of reduction in accretion heating is required. Abstract: We present observations of polarized dust emission at 850 $\mu$m from the L43 molecular cloud which sits in the Ophiuchus cloud complex. The data were taken using SCUBA-2/POL-2 on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope as a part of the BISTRO large program. L43 is a dense ($N_{\rm H_2}\sim 10^{22}$-10$^{23}$ cm$^{-2}$) complex molecular cloud with a submillimetre-bright starless core and two protostellar sources. There appears to be an evolutionary gradient along the isolated filament that L43 is embedded within, with the most evolved source closest to the Sco OB2 association. One of the protostars drives a CO outflow that has created a cavity to the southeast. We see a magnetic field that appears to be aligned with the cavity walls of the outflow, suggesting interaction with the outflow. We also find a magnetic field strength of up to $\sim$160$\pm$30 $\mu$G in the main starless core and up to $\sim$90$\pm$40 $\mu$G in the more diffuse, extended region. These field strengths give magnetically super- and sub-critical values respectively and both are found to be roughly trans-Alfv\'enic. Abstract: Muon neutrino and antineutrino disappearance probabilities are identical in the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework, but CPT violation and non-standard interactions can violate this symmetry. In this work we report the measurements of $\sin^{2} \theta_{23}$ and $\Delta m_{32}^2$ independently for neutrinos and antineutrinos. The aforementioned symmetry violation would manifest as an inconsistency in the neutrino and antineutrino oscillation parameters. The analysis discussed here uses a total of 1.97$\times$10$^{21}$ and 1.63$\times$10$^{21}$ protons on target taken with a neutrino and antineutrino beam respectively, and benefits from improved flux and cross-section models, new near detector samples and more than double the data reducing the overall uncertainty of the result. No significant deviation is observed, consistent with the standard neutrino oscillation picture.

Abstract: We report the first search result for the flux of astrophysical electron antineutrinos for energies O(10) MeV in the gadolinium-loaded Super-Kamiokande (SK) detector. In June 2020, gadolinium was introduced to the ultra-pure water of the SK detector in order to detect neutrons more efficiently. In this new experimental phase, SK-Gd, we can search for electron antineutrinos via inverse beta decay with efficient background rejection and higher signal efficiency thanks to the high efficiency of the neutron tagging technique. In this paper, we report the result for the initial stage of SK-Gd with a $22.5\times552$ $\rm kton\cdot day$ exposure at 0.01% Gd mass concentration. No significant excess over the expected background in the observed events is found for the neutrino energies below 31.3 MeV. Thus, the flux upper limits are placed at the 90% confidence level. The limits and sensitivities are already comparable with the previous SK result with pure-water ($22.5 \times 2970 \rm kton\cdot day$) owing to the enhanced neutron tagging.

196. AVATAR: Adversarial self-superVised domain Adaptation network for TARget domain

Abstract: This paper presents an unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) method for predicting unlabeled target domain data, specific to complex UDA tasks where the domain gap is significant. Mainstream UDA models aim to learn from both domains and improve target discrimination by utilizing labeled source domain data. However, the performance boost may be limited when the discrepancy between the source and target domains is large or the target domain contains outliers. To explicitly address this issue, we propose the Adversarial self-superVised domain Adaptation network for the TARget domain (AVATAR) algorithm. It outperforms state-of-the-art UDA models by concurrently reducing domain discrepancy while enhancing discrimination through domain adversarial learning, self-supervised learning, and sample selection strategy for the target domain, all guided by deep clustering. Our proposed model significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods on three UDA benchmarks, and extensive ablation studies and experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach for addressing complex UDA tasks.

Abstract: Understanding the temperature structure of protoplanetary disks is crucial for answering the fundamental question of when and where in the disks rocky planets like our own form. However, the thermal structure of the inner few au of the disks is poorly understood not only because of lack of observational constraints but also because of the uncertainty of accretion heating processes. Here, we propose thermal tomography of the inner regions of protoplanetary disks with the ngVLA and ALMA. The proposed approach is based on the assumption that the inner disk regions are optically thick at submillimeter wavelengths but are marginally optically thin at longer millimeter wavelengths. By combining high-resolution millimeter continuum images from the ngVLA with submillimeter images at comparable resolutions from ALMA, we will be able to reconstruct the radial and vertical structure of the inner few au disk regions. Abstract: We present the measurement of the energy dependence of the boron flux in cosmic rays and its ratio to the carbon flux \textcolor{black}{in an energy interval from 8.4 GeV$/n$ to 3.8 TeV$/n$} based on the data collected by the CALorimetric Electron Telescope (CALET) during $\sim 6.4$ years of operation on the International Space Station. An update of the energy spectrum of carbon is also presented with an increase in statistics over our previous measurement. The observed boron flux shows a spectral hardening at the same transition energy $E_0 \sim 200$ GeV$/n$ of the C spectrum, though B and C fluxes have different energy dependences. The spectral index of the B spectrum is found to be $\gamma = -3.047\pm0.024$ in the interval $25 < E < 200$ GeV$/n$. The B spectrum hardens by $\Delta \gamma_B=0.25\pm0.12$, while the best fit value for the spectral variation of C is $\Delta \gamma_C=0.19\pm0.03$. The B/C flux ratio is compatible with a hardening of $0.09\pm0.05$, though a single power-law energy dependence cannot be ruled out given the current statistical uncertainties. A break in the B/C ratio energy dependence would support the recent AMS-02 observations that secondary cosmic rays exhibit a stronger hardening than primary ones. We also perform a fit to the B/C ratio with a leaky-box model of the cosmic-ray propagation in the Galaxy in order to probe a possible residual value $\lambda_0$ of the mean escape path length $\lambda$ at high energy. We find that our B/C data are compatible with a non-zero value of $\lambda_0$, which can be interpreted as the column density of matter that cosmic rays cross within the acceleration region., Comment: main text: 7 pages, 3 figures; supplemental material: 13 pages, 8 figures, 3 tables

Abstract: Abstract Background Mentorship is a dynamic reciprocal relationship, wherein a novice (mentee) grows with the encouragement of an advanced careerist (mentor). It is widely implemented in medical training programs. However, there are few reports on mentorship's educational effects in the Japanese context. This study investigated the association between mentorship and in‐training examination scores during a clinical residency program in Japan. Methods A cross‐sectional study was conducted in Japan, involving first and second year postgraduate (PGY‐1 and PGY‐2) residents set to take the General Medicine In‐Training Examination (GM‐ITE) at the end of the academic year of 2021. The GM‐ITE, developed by a non‐profit organization in 2012, assesses the overall clinical knowledge of PGY‐1 and PGY‐2 residents. Data on mentorship were obtained through an electronic survey, conducted immediately after the GM‐ITE. The association between a resident's self‐reported identification of at least one mentor and GM‐ITE score was analyzed at multiple levels. Results Of the total 4929 residents, 3266 (66.3%) reported having mentors. However, there was no association between mentorship and GM‐ITE scores (adjusted score difference [aSD] = −0.22; 95% confidence interval [95% CI]: −0.64 to 0.19). Conclusions Among Japanese residents, in‐training examination scores were not associated with mentorship.

200. Factors associated with prefectural level physical activity in Japan: An ecological study

Abstract: Abstract Background Physical activity inequalities are an important global concern; nonetheless, few studies have comprehensively examined the association between physical activity inequalities and related factors. We aimed to explore factors associated with regional inequalities in physical activity in Japan. Methods We investigated the relationship of individual, psychological/behavioral, social, and built‐environmental factors with the proportion of individuals with exercise habits across Japanese prefectures. We sourced data from open databases, including the Japanese National Health Insurance Claims and Nationwide Screening Program Database. We defined exercise habits as engaging in at least 30 min of moderate exercise at least twice a week. We employed multiple regression analysis to identify factors associated with prefectural level physical activity. Results The median proportion of individuals with exercise habits was 27% (interquartile range, 25–29). Higher frequency of exercise habits was associated with higher frequency of history of exercise (coefficients, 0.60; 95% confidence interval, 0.41–0.80) and lower proportion of female gender (coefficients, −1.74; 95% confidence interval, −2.80 to −0.69). Conclusions Exercise history and female gender may be related to prefectural level physical activity in Japan. Physical activity interventions should be promoted among women without exercise history.
