Tree bark is a highly specialized array of tissues that plays important roles in plant protection and development. Bark tissues develop from two lateral meristems; the phellogen (cork cambium) produces the outermost stem-environment barrier called the periderm, while the vascular cambium contributes with phloem tissues. Although bark is diverse in terms of tissues, functions and species, it remains understudied at higher resolution. We dissected the stem of silver birch (Betula pendula) into eight major tissue types, and characterized these by a combined transcriptomics and metabolomics approach. We further analyzed the varying bark types within the Betulaceae family. The two meristems had a distinct contribution to the stem transcriptomic landscape. Furthermore, inter- and intraspecies analyses illustrated the unique molecular profile of the phellem. We identified multiple tissue-specific metabolic pathways, such as the mevalonate/betulin biosynthesis pathway, that displayed differential evolution within the Betulaceae. A detailed analysis of suberin and betulin biosynthesis pathways identified a set of underlying regulators and highlighted the important role of local, small-scale gene duplication events in the evolution of metabolic pathways. This work reveals the transcriptome and metabolic diversity among bark tissues and provides insights to its development and evolution, as well as its biotechnological applications. Published version

Se presenta la optimización hidrodinámica de una boya de flotación sub-superficial provista con aletas orientables para fondeos oceanográficos, definida a partir de un perfil NACA de cuerda variable en su eje vertical al que se le añade un timón y aletas orientables, la boya está inspirada en un pez luna. La nueva forma consigue reducir el arrastre y aumentar la sustentación frente a boyas de referencia esféricas equivalentes. Se analizan los resultados de las distintas simulaciones hidrodinámicas del comportamiento de esta boya con respecto a boyas esféricas equivalentes empleando CFD. Se demuestra que el arrastre se reduce en más del 50%. Las aletas orientables son configurables en su ángulo de ataque para su mejor rendimiento en función del régimen de velocidades propio de cada emplazamiento. Dentro del rango de velocidades de 0.1-3.0 m/s, se determina que el ángulo de ataque óptimo está en torno a los 10º.

The main objective of this research is to determine the psychosocial differences between patients with knee pain or early osteoarthritis (EOA) and healthy subjects at risk of developing osteoarthritis. The secondary objective is to determine how psychosocial factors might influence pain and social participation in patients with EOA. A cross-sectional study was performed. Participants were divided according to the presence of pain or EOA. Pain intensity both at rest and walking, psychological variables such as anxiety and depression, and social participation were evaluated. A total of 105 participants were included (64 with knee pain and 41 without pain), with a mean age of 51.42 ± 5.92 (35 men and 70 women). Patients with knee pain had higher levels of anxiety (MD = −2.35, p &lt, 0.01, d = 0.66) and depression (MD = −2.45, d = 0.87), regardless of the presence of EOA. In addition, patients with higher depression levels had lower levels of social participation. The results revealed a relationship between the psychological variables, anxiety and depression, with knee pain and the onset of symptomatic OA, as well as an influence of depression levels on social participation. Improving these psychological characteristics may be useful in delaying the onset of symptomatic OA and enhancing social participation.

Plants produce organs of various shapes and sizes. While much has been learned about genetic regulation of organogenesis, the integration of mechanics in the process is also gaining attention. Here, we consider the role of forces as instructive signals in organ morphogenesis. Turgor pressure is the primary cause of mechanical signals in developing organs. Because plant cells are glued to each other, mechanical signals act, in essence, at multiple scales, through cell wall contiguity and water flux. In turn, cells use such signals to resist mechanical stress, for instance, by reinforcing their cell walls. We show that the three elemental shapes behind plant organs - spheres, cylinders and lamina - can be actively maintained by such a mechanical feedback. Combinations of this 3-letter alphabet can generate more complex shapes. Furthermore, mechanical conflicts emerge at the boundary between domains exhibiting different growth rates or directions. These secondary mechanical signals contribute to three other organ shape features - folds, shape reproducibility and growth arrest. The further integration of mechanical signals with the molecular network offers many fruitful prospects for the scientific community, including the role of proprioception in organ shape robustness or the definition of cell and organ identities as a result of an interplay between biochemical and mechanical signals.

Since then, it has been developed until reaching a notion that could be summarized as follows: The IACtHR and all state authorities (operators) have the duty ex officio to carry out a control between, on the one hand, regional human rights treaties and inter-American exegesis (canon), and, on the other hand, the entire domestic legal system without exception, that is, also the Constitution and the norms endorsed by the citizenry (object), so that, if there is inconsistency, the inter-American standard prevails and, thus, the declaration of international responsibility is avoided. The reaction has been diverse both among scholars and in the high national courts of the region. The present research has four purposes. The first is to test the conceptual status quo of the doctrine of conventionality control according to the IACtHR's pronouncements (Chapter 1). The second aims to critically analyze whether this figure enjoys a solid and sufficient legal basis from the sources of Public International Law (Chapter 2). The third is to examine the responses given by ten States, taking advantage of their normative and judicial experience (Chapter 3). Finally, the fourth lies in critically assess the implications of this figure, based on the categories of understanding of the Constitutional Rule of Law (Chapter 4). In short, this effort seeks to demonstrate why the doctrine of conventionality control, as understood by the IACtHR, should be rejected or at least modified, since it does not have a sufficient and consistent legal basis in international law and jeopardizes the principles on which the Constitutional Rule of Law is based. Aims The objective of this study is to analyze how the impact of Diabetes Mellitus [DM] in patients with COVID-19 varies according to altitudinal gradient. Methods We obtained 1,280,806 records from adult patients with COVID-19 and DM to analyze the probability of COVID-19, development of COVID-19 pneumonia, hospitalization, intubation, admission to the Intensive Care Unit [ICU] and case-fatality rates [CFR]. Variables were controlled by age, sex and altitude of residence to calculate adjusted prevalence and prevalence ratios. Results Patients with DM had a 21.8% higher prevalence of COVID-19 and an additional 120.2% higher prevalence of COVID-19 pneumonia. The adjusted prevalence was also higher for these outcomes as well as for hospitalization, intubation and ICU admission. COVID-19 and pneumonia patients with DM had a 97.0% and 19.4% higher CFR, respectively. With increasing altitudes, the probability of being a confirmed COVID-19 case and the development of pneumonia decreased along CFR for patients with and without DM. However, COVID-19 patients with DM were more likely to require intubation when residing at high altitude. Conclusions The study suggests that patients with DM have a higher probability of being a confirmed COVID-19 case and developing pneumonia. Higher altitude had a protective relationship against SARS-CoV-2 infection; however, it may be associated with more severe cases in patients with and without DM. High altitude decreases CFR for all COVID-19 patients. Our work also shows that women are less affected than men regardless of altitude.

Thermal load imposed on the ground by the foundations of some singular buildings may produce variations in geochemistry conditions. In soils containing soluble salts, such as gypsum, their dissolution/precipitation rates may be modified, triggering ground settlement as well as angular distortion of building foundations. This paper examines these processes for the case of the Central Storage Facility for high-level radioactive waste planned in Spain. This facility would impose a thermal load over a long period of time due to the disposal of spent nuclear fuel. A numerical model, including the equations for describing the dissolution/precipitation process, as well as the hydrogeological, thermal, chemical, and geomechanical changes in the ground caused by the construction and operation of the facilities, is proposed. The model focuses on the response of the building foundation under different hypothesis of thermal loading underneath the building. Comsol Multiphysics software was used for solving the resulting partial differential equations by the finite element method. This analysis concludes that moderate thermal loading of the ground would develop in the Case Study, with negligible mechanical effect on the foundation., La carga térmica impuesta al suelo por los cimientos de algunos edificios singulares puede producir variaciones en las condiciones geoquímicas . En suelos que contienen sales solubles, como el yeso , sus tasas de disolución/precipitación pueden modificarse, provocando asentamientos del suelo y distorsión angular de los cimientos de los edificios. Este artículo examina estos procesos para el caso de la Instalación Central de Almacenamiento de residuos radiactivos de alta actividad.prevista en España. Esta instalación impondría una carga térmica durante un largo período de tiempo debido a la eliminación del combustible nuclear gastado. Se propone un modelo numérico que incluye las ecuaciones para describir el proceso de disolución/precipitación, así como los cambios hidrogeológicos, térmicos, químicos y geomecánicos en el suelo provocados por la construcción y operación de las instalaciones. El modelo se centra en la respuesta de los cimientos del edificio bajo diferentes hipótesis de carga térmica debajo del edificio. Se utilizó el software Comsol Multiphysics para resolver las ecuaciones diferenciales parciales resultantes mediante el método de elementos finitos. Este análisis concluye que se desarrollaría una carga térmica moderada del suelo en el caso de estudio, con un efecto mecánico insignificante en la cimentación.

El estudio histórico y teórico de la relación entre arte y cibernética realizado en esta Tesis permite establecer las coordenadas conceptuales para entender la interfaz en nuestro tiempo-ahora. Así, superando posicionamientos anteriores o exclusivamente basados en la interacción con una pantalla, en este trabajo se despliega una idea de interfaz entendida en la actualidad como un medio a través del cual las personas se relacionan en un espacio líquido entre pantallas que, hoy en día, conforman una realidad híbrida entre un mundo físico y una existencia digital. Entendiendo la interfaz desde este planteamiento teórico y a propósito de la forma como el arte y el diseño interactúan con o en el mundo conectado, esta Tesis plantea los diferentes problemas relativos a la creación, preservación, difusión y archivo de estas manifestaciones culturales. Clasificando estas producciones desde la Teoría de las generaciones (la relación entre una obra y el estado de consciencia en que fue creada) desarrollada en esta Tesis -esto es, partiendo de una clasificación entre obra creada en primera generación y obra creada en segunda o posteriores- se proponen tres vías/proyectos para solventar los problemas conceptuales, teóricos y técnicos ligados a esta existencia híbrida: - La Vía del archivo, basado en la experiencia de proyectos de investigación como AEMA, plantea la necesidad de la restauración digital, la necesaria existencia de un relato y de una documentación exhaustiva para aquellas producciones que ya solo existen en segunda o posteriores generaciones. - El sistema Terminal ofrece una solución teórica y técnica específica para la producción cultural intangible que permite su conservación en los casos en los que todavía es posible (emulación) y su preservación posterior. Terminal es asimismo un sistema que responde a las necesidades de exhibición y mercado de obra intangible creada en primera generación e, incluso, segunda o posteriores. - RECC (Revista Experimental de Cultura Contemporánea) se plantea como la forma concreta de producción en primera generación. BackgroundThe spectrum of pre-existing renal disease is known as a risk factor for severe COVID-19 outcomes. However, little is known about the impact of COVID-19 on patients with diabetic nephropathy in comparison to patients with chronic kidney disease.MethodsWe used the Mexican Open Registry of COVID-19 patients 11 to analyze anonymized records of those who had symptoms related to COVID-19 to analyze the rates of SARS-CoV-2 infection, development of COVID-19 pneumonia, admission, intubation, Intensive Care Unit admission and mortality. Robust Poisson regression was used to relate sex and age to each of the six outcomes and find adjusted prevalences and adjusted prevalence ratios. Also, binomial regression models were performed for those outcomes that had significant results to generate probability plots to perform a fine analysis of the results obtained along age as a continuous variable.ResultsThe adjusted prevalence analysis revealed that that there was a a 87.9% excess probability of developing COVID-19 pneumonia in patients with diabetic nephropathy, a 5% excess probability of being admitted, a 101.7% excess probability of intubation and a 20.8% excess probability of a fatal outcome due to COVID-19 pneumonia in comparison to CKD patients (p< 0.01).ConclusionsPatients with diabetic nephropathy had nearly a twofold rate of COVID-19 pneumonia, a higher probability of admission, a twofold probability of intubation and a higher chance of death once admitted compared to patients with chronic kidney disease alone. Also, both diseases had higher COVID-19 pneumonia rates, intubation rates and case-fatality rates compared to the overall population.

This research aims to analyze the relationship between the application of realistic mathematics principles and academic performance in mathematics in aspiring students engineering. The participants were 61 pre university students candidates to the engineering careers (28 men (45.9%) and 33 women (54.1%)) between 15 and 26 years old (Mage = 17.82, SD = 1.76). The results showed, the preference of the students for applying the Realistic Mathematical Education Principles in their studies. One found that the reality principle, of guided reinvention and interaction principle was related with the interconnection principle. These findings indicate that the students learn the mathematics taking as starting point the reality principle, generating your own problem solving strategies, learning cooperatively and relating the diverse mathematical areas. Finally, the application of the Realistic Mathematical Education Principles was not related to the academic performance in mathematics.

Major depression disorder is a mental issue that has been increasing in the last decade, in consequence, prediction or detection of this mental disorder in early stages is necessary. Artificial intelligence techniques have been developed in order to ease the diagnosis of different illnesses, including depression, using audio-visual information such as voice or video recordings and medical images. This research field is growing, and some organizations and descriptions are required. In the present work, a systematic mapping study was conducted in order to summarize the factors involved in depression detection such as artificial intelligence techniques, source of information, and depression scales.

A self-consistent hybrid model of standing and moving striations was developed for low-current DC discharges in noble gases. We introduced the concept of surface diffusion in phase space (r, u) (where u denotes the electron kinetic energy) described by a tensor diffusion in the nonlocal Fokker–Planck kinetic equation for electrons in the collisional plasma. Electrons diffuse along surfaces of constant total energy ɛ = u − eφ(r) between energy jumps in inelastic collisions with atoms. Numerical solutions of the 1d1u kinetic equation for electrons were obtained by two methods and coupled to ion transport and Poisson solver. We studied the dynamics of striation formation in Townsend and glow discharges in argon gas at low discharge currents using a two-level excitation-ionization model and a ‘full-chemistry’ model, which includes stepwise and Penning ionization. Standing striations appeared in Townsend and glow discharges at low currents, and moving striations were obtained for the discharge currents exceeding a critical value. These waves originate at the anode and propagate towards the cathode. We have seen two types of moving striations with the two-level and full-chemistry models, which resemble the s and p striations previously observed in the experiments. Simulations indicate that processes in the anode region could control moving striations in the positive column plasma. The developed model helps clarify the nature of standing and moving striations in DC discharges of noble gases at low discharge currents and low gas pressures.

The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between predictor factors of proactivity and leadership in university students of the career of business administration. The sample was of 152 students of the career of business administration 82 men (53.9%) and 65 women (42.8%). The sample were between the 16 to 44 years old (MeanAge = 18.86, SD = 3.70) and of they 112 (74%) were of capital city (Lima-Peru) and 33 (22%) were of province. In the results of the analysis of correlations, the mother’s education and father’s education demonstrated a light positive relationship with the leadership. Finally, proactivity demonstrated a strong and positive relationship with the leadership. Finally, the age predicts negatively the proactivity, and proactivity predicts positively the leadership.

The study objective was to identify the influential factors in the development of the entrepreneurship self-efficacy in students of international business administration of a private university of Lima (Peru). The sample belonged to 110 students, 50 women (45.5 %) and 60 males (55.5 %) between 17 and 32 years of age (M age = 20.06, SD = 2.86). The results indicated the students possess an average level in the dimensions of the enterprising self-efficacy and there are not significant differences for genre. Also, it was observed the high educational levels of the father predict the efficacy to define the essential objectives of a business. Then, the being of the capital city predicts the promotion of an innovative labor environment. And finally, the self-efficacy to define the central objectives of a business predicts positively the suitable human resource management.

BackgroundThe impact of influenza and various types of coronaviruses (SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV) on pregnancy has been reported. However, the current pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 continues to reveal important data for understanding its behavior in pregnant women.MethodsWe analyzed the records of 326,586 non-pregnant women of reproductive age and 7,444 pregnant women with no other risk factor who also had a SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR result to estimate adjusted prevalence (aP) and adjusted prevalence ratios (aPR) of COVID-19 and its requirement of hospitalization, intubation, ICU admission and case-fatality rates. Adjustment was done through Poisson regressions for age and altitude of residence and birth. Generalized binomial models were used to generate probability plots to display how each outcome varied across ages and altitudes.ResultsPregnancy was independently associated with a 15% higher probability of COVID-19 (aPR: 1.15), a 116% higher probability of its following admission (aPR: 2.169) and a 127% higher probability of ICU admission (aPR: 2.275). Also, pregnancy was associated with 84.2% higher probability of developing pneumonia (aPR: 1.842) and a 163% higher probability of its following admission (aPR: 2.639). There were no significant differences in COVID-19 case-fatality rates between pregnant and non pregnant women (1.178, 95% CI: 0.68-1.67).ConclusionPregnancy was associated with a higher probability of COVID-19, developing of pneumonia, hospitalization, and ICU admission. Our results also suggest that the risk of COVID-19 and its related outcomes, except for intubation, decrease with altitude.

With almost a third of adults being obese, another third hypertense and almost a tenth affected by diabetes, Latin American countries could see an elevated number of severe COVID-19 outcomes. We used the Open Dataset of Mexican patients with COVID-19 suspicion who had a definite RT-PCR result to develop a statistical model that evaluated the progression of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the population. We included patients of all ages with every risk factor provided by the dataset: asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, smoking, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, immunodeficiencies, chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular diseases, and pregnancy. The dataset also included an unspecified category for other risk factors that were not specified as a single variable. To avoid excluding potential patients at risk, that category was included in our analysis. Due to the nature of the dataset, the calculation of a standardized comorbidity index was not possible. Therefore, we treated risk factors as a categorical variable with two categories: absence of risk factors and the presence of at least one risk factor in accordance with previous epidemiological reports. Multiple logistic regressions were carried out to associate sex, risk factors, and age as a continuous variable (and the interaction that accounted for increasing diseases with older ages); and SARS-CoV-2 infection as the dependent zero-one binomial variable. Post estimation predictive marginal analysis was performed to generate probability trends along 95% confidence bands. This analysis was repeated several times through the course of the pandemic since the first record provided in their repository (April 12, 2020) to one month after the end of the state of sanitary emergency (the last date analyzed: June 27, 2020). After processing, the last measurement included 464,389 patients.The baseline analysis on April 12 revealed that people 35 years and older with at least one risk factor had a lower risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection in comparison to patients without risk factors (Figure 1). One month before the end of the nationwide state of emergency this age threshold was found at 50 years (May 2, 2020) and it shifted to 65 years on May 30. Two weeks after the end of the public emergency (June 13, 2020) the trends converged at 80 years and one week later (June 27, 2020) every male and female patient with at least one risk factor had a higher risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to people without risk factors. Through the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, all four probability curves shifted upwards as a result of progressive disease spread.In conclusion, we found our model could monitor accurately the probability of SARS-CoV-2 infection in relation to age, sex, and the presence of at least one risk factor. Also, because the model can be applied to any particular political region within Mexico, it could help evaluate the contagion spread in specific vulnerable populations. Further studies are needed to determine the underlying nature of the mechanisms behind such observations.

La aparición de nuevos movimientos políticos “populistas” permite constatar la aparición de una nueva forma de tratamiento de la veridicción –y por lo tanto del engaño y de la mentira– o en todo caso de su significación política. The appearance of new “populist” political movements we can see the emergence of a new way of treating truth - and therefore deceit and lies - or at least their political significance. These new forms of politics are based on a new type of truthfulness contract between the recipients and the addressees of the discourse. We are facing a real epistemological change in political discourse, which will no longer necessarily have anything to do with truth and which gives rise to what could be considered a new political episteme. The monitoring of the structural behaviour of singular buildings and the environmental variables that affect them is an upward trend on a global scale. This paper presents a monitoring project of the building of the Institute of Technology (IT) of the University of Castilla-La Mancha in Cuenca, Spain. Different monitoring actions were carried out, specifically there were installed 27 measuring points of the soil water content (both outside and under the building), 4 clinometers with thermometers, a weather station, and 22 points for topographical levelling, thirteen of which are located on the footings of the building. Although 3 of the clinometers recorded data marked almost entirely by the evolution of the interior temperature, the one located in Module 4 showed a more complex behaviour. In order to determine the possible underlying causes of this behaviour, the footings were grouped according to the evolution of the settlements obtained by differential levelling. For this purpose, a novel clustering technique based on the calculation of the Jeffreys distance has been used instead of other more common dissimilarity measures. The analysis revealed a potential cause of the anomalous behaviour of a group of footings and permitted the study of the influence of temperature and other environmental and operative variables on this behaviour, allowing the detection of anomalies in the future. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd

International audience; Tree architecture has evolved to support a top-heavy above-ground biomass, but this integral feature poses a weight-induced challenge to trunk stability. Maintaining an upright stem is expected to require vertical proprioception through feedback between sensing stem weight and responding with radial growth. Despite its apparent importance, the principle by which plant stems respond to vertical loading forces remains largely unknown. Here, by manipulating the stem weight of downy birch (Betula pubescens) trees, we show that cambial development is modulated systemically along the stem. We carried out a genetic study on the underlying regulation by combining an accelerated birch flowering program with a recessive mutation at the ELIMAKI locus (EKI), which causes a mechanically defective response to weight stimulus resulting in stem collapse after just 3 months. We observed delayed wood morphogenesis in eki compared with WT, along with a more mechanically elastic cambial zone and radial compression of xylem cell size, indicating that rapid tissue differentiation is critical for cambial growth under mechanical stress. Furthermore, the touch-induced mechanosensory pathway was transcriptionally misregulated in eki, indicating that the ELIMAKI locus is required to integrate the weight-growth feedback regulation. By studying this birch mutant, we were able to dissect vertical proprioception from the gravitropic response associated with reaction wood formation. Our study provides evidence for both local and systemic responses to mechanical stimuli during secondary plant development.

We study the geometry of positive cones of left-invariant total orders (left-order, for short) in finitely generated groups. We introduce the \textit{Hucha property} and the \texit{Prieto property} for left-orderable groups. The first one means that in any left-order the corresponding positive cone is not coarsely connected, and the second one that in any left-order the corresponding positive cone is coarsely connected. We show that all left-orderable free products have the Hucha property, and that the Hucha property is stable under certain free products with amalgamatation over Prieto subgroups. As an application we show that non-abelian limit groups in the sense of Z. Sela (e.g. free groups, fundamental group of hyperbolic surfaces, doubles of free groups and others) and non-abelian finitely generated subgroups of free $\mathbb{Q}$-groups in the sense of G. Baumslag have the Hucha property. In particular, this implies that these groups have empty BNS-invariant $\Sigma^1$ and that they don't have finitely generated positive cones., Comment: 32 pages

Este capítulo presenta una línea base de conocimiento hidrológico cuyo objetivo fue la estimación de la oferta hídrica, demanda hídrica y un diagnóstico general del saneamiento básico existente en el área de estudio del Parque Nacional Natural El Cocuy y su zona de influencia en la Cuenca Alta del Río Nevado (microcuencas de los Ríos Lagunillas, Cóncavo, Corralitos, San Pablín y Cardenillo). Como respuesta al objetivo propuesto es presentado de forma sintética el análisis de información espacial e hidroclimatológica secundaria, un inventario de información general de los sistemas de saneamiento básico y de variables asociadas con la demanda hídrica, el análisis de consistencia, homogeneidad y validez de la información hidroclimatológica, la caracterización hidroclimatológica, la morfometría superficial y de drenaje, así como la estimación de la oferta y demanda hídrica. La información generada incluyó de forma adicional a dos microcuencas (Río Mortiño y quebrada Casas Viejas) brindando una mayor representatividad a esta escala y permitiendo analizar de forma completa la zona de estudio definida en el convenio interinstitucional entre Parques Nacionales Naturales (PNN) y la Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia (UPTC). Mediante el empleo técnicas de medición, trabajo de campo, análisis e interpretación de información (secundaria y primaria) espacial e hidroclimatológica, así como del uso de herramientas computacionales y modelos matemáticos hidrológicos fueron estimadas las variables de mayor interés asociadas con el componente hidrológico del proyecto. La interdisciplinariedad presente durante todo el desarrollo de las actividades permitió realizar análisis específicos y detallados, los cuales forman parte fundamental de los resultados de este componente. Los resultados e indicadores generados por este componte serán un gran referente del estado actual de la hidrología en la zona de estudio y se constituyen como un insumo de gran valor en la gestión integral de los recursos hídricos por parte de los municipios e instituciones de la región.

La comprensión de la evolución de los paisajes, desde las fuerzas geológicas que permitieron la depositación de sedimentos y su posterior plegamiento, los factores asociados a la geodinámica externa que con los cambios climatológicos durante el cuaternario permitieron el desarrollo de glaciares y las formas heredadas de su erosión y con ellos la colonización de la vegetación adaptada a estas condiciones. El componente geo-ambiental, presenta la compilación geológica, su densificación y articulación con la geomorfología, interpretada en escala 1/25.000, con algunos aspectos glaciológicos relacionados con el retroceso, evaluado a partir de imágenes de sensores remotos desde el año 1985 hasta el año 2018. Este componente evalúa de manera preliminar la susceptibilidad al desarrollo de fenómenos de remoción en masa a partir de la metodología desarrollada por el Servicio Geológico Colombiano SGC. Así mismo, la pérdida de suelo para establecer la correspondencia entre actividades antrópicas de las zonas más bajas comparada con la pérdida de suelo del área protegida. Para evaluar estas pérdidas se sigue el modelo propuesto en la ecuación establecida por Wischmeyer y Smith (1978). Durante el cuaternario a nivel planetario, se dieron los periodos glaciares que modificaron la morfología de la alta montaña y cuyas consecuencias ambientales son de amplia significancia. El presente documento describe de forma más detallada la distribución de geoformas, los elementos litológicos subyacentes, la importancia de la estructura geológica y su impacto en la actual evolución de paisajes.

Here, we performed X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy experiments on ACC which show that the amount of adsorbed water has a strong control over its diffusive dynamics. Results of crystallization experiments under conditions of controlled humidity indicate that the adsorbed water is enough to spark crystallization of calcite. A direct proportionality is found between the relative humidity of the environment and the final size of the calcite crystals. Different hypotheses are made to explain this result, with the confinement within the amorphous matrix being the main suspect of controlling the size of the crystallites. Control of water activity and water content is, therefore, a possible way to regulate biomineral crystallinity both in nature and for the design of functional biomimetic materials., Published by Soc., Washington, DC

El estudio del paisaje ha sido abordado desde distintas áreas del conocimiento que abarcan desde la resolución de problemáticas sociales hasta un fin puramente científico y académico; desde el punto de vista ecológico y ambiental el paisaje se comprende como la unidad espacial y temporal producto de las interacciones de distintos ecosistemas, especies y sustancialmente el hombre, este último cuya capacidad invasiva ha sido determinante en la modificación de la homogeneidad de los sistemas naturales (Armenteras y Vargas, 2016). Aspecto que permite no solo la disertación alrededor del conglomerado ecosistémico, si no que favorece la valoración de distintos ecosistemas de acuerdo a sus potencialidades, atributos y características; dicha valoración se realiza por medio del estudio de especies clave, el análisis de comportamiento animal y la descripción de cambios ambientales, que en resumidas cuentas conducen a evaluar la salud ambiental de un ecosistema; igualmente, se utilizan indicadores de integridad como la medición de la diversidad biológica, el mantenimiento de la herencia paisajística y la evaluación de la fragilidad en los distintos ecosistemas (Farina, 2016). Para la caracterización de ecosistemas y paisajes, se tiene en cuenta los estudios previos, la información secundaria disponible y paralelamente se toma referencia de los puntos de muestreo del componente hidrobiológico; lo anterior permite realizar un análisis de la vegetación aledaña a la cuenca estudiada (Figura 4.1); igualmente se ubican muestreos a lo largo de la cuenca alta, media y baja, dando importancia a hábitats estratégicos, de importancia biótica, cultural y de servicios ecosistémicos (Cuéllar, 2013). En cuanto al análisis de la composición de especies vegetales, en cada una de las microcuencas estudiadas, se establecieron puntos de muestreo georeferenciados, teniendo en cuenta la posición a lo largo de la cuenca (alta, media, baja); en cada punto se realizaron parcelas de 10 x 10m (0,1 Ha) y transectos lineales de 100 x 2m (200m2); se efectuaron descripciones entorno a la cobertura dominante en términos de porcentaje (%) y de las especies más representativas del área estudiada por número de individuos de plantas vasculares encontradas. En cuanto a plantas no vasculares y líquenes en cada transecto realizado en bosque, se escogieron cinco forofitos que cumplieran con las características de selección sugeridas por Wolf (1993) Gradstein et al. (1996) y Gradstein et.al. (2003), las cuales corresponden a arbustos con un DAP (diámetro a la altura del pecho) superior a 10 cm con la mayor diversidad de especies de vegetación no vascular, además, se evaluaron todos los sustratos presentes en el sotobosque del transecto (suelo y roca).

Background A Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES, for Encuesta Demografica y de Salud Familiar in Spanish) is carried out annually in Peru. Based on it, the anemia prevalence was 43.6% in 2016 and 43.8% in 2017 using the WHO cutoff value of 11 g/dL and the altitude-correction equation. Objective To assess factors contributing to anemia and to determine its prevalence in Peruvian children 6 to 35 months old. Methods We used the MEASURE DHS-based ENDES survey to obtain representative data for11364 children from 6 to 35 months old on hemoglobin and health determinants. To evaluate normal hemoglobin levels, we used the original WHO criterion of the 5th percentile in children without chronic malnutrition and then applied it to the overall population. Relationships between hemoglobin and altitude levels, usage of cleaning methods to sanitize water safe to drink, usage of solid fuels and poverty status were tested using methodology for complex survey data. Percentile curves were made for altitude intervals by plotting hemoglobin compared to age. The new anemia rates are presented in graphs by Peruvian political regions according to the degree of public health significance. Results Hemoglobin increased as age and altitude of residence increased. Using the 5th percentile, anemia prevalence was 7.3% in 2016 and 2017. Antecedentes: La saturación periférica de oxígeno es un método no invasivo que refleja el estado oxigenatorio de una persona, sin embargo no ha sido estudiada ampliamente en la población adulta en la altura que se presenta en la consulta externa con enfermedades de las vías respiratorias superiores e inferiores. Objetivo: Evaluar la utilidad de la pulso oximetría como discriminador entre enfermedades de la vía aérea superior versus inferior. Material y métodos: Se analizó 7848 pacientes de 18 a 65 años con enfermedades respiratorias altas y bajas y pacientes que acudieron para exámenes generales que contaran con registros de signos vitales, pulso oximetría y antropometría atendidos en la consulta externa en la altura (2750m). Para el análisis de medias se usó el test de T de Student y análisis ANOVA en caso existan tres grupos de variables. Se realizó el análisis ROC para establecer la capacidad de los signos vitales de discernir entre enfermedades de las vías respiratorias altas y bajas. Resultados: La SpO2 se relaciona débilmente con la frecuencia cardiaca, respiratoria, temperatura, edad e IMC. El análisis ROC de funciones vitales y pulsooximetría revela la no utilidad de éstas como discriminadores de enfermedades de las vías respiratorias superiores e inferiores. Conclusiones: La poca utilidad de la pulso oximetría puede deberse a que los pacientes evaluados se presentaron la consulta externa presentando principalmente condiciones que afectaron la vía aérea superior. Este signo vital debe estudiarse aún en pacientes que acuden con condiciones respiratorias de emergencia en la altura.

[ES] La modelación de las aguas subterránea es una herramienta muy potente para la evaluación de los acuíferos fracturados. En este trabajo, se construyó el modelo matemático del acuífero de la parte alta de la quebrada Huamancute, Ayacucho-Perú con la finalidad de comprender el comportamiento de las aguas subterráneas en el medio fisurado. En una primera instancia se desarrolló el modelo hidrogeológico conceptual, en el cual se tuvo en cuenta toda la información recaba de geología, hidrología, edafología y climatología; después se implementó el modelo numérico con la ayuda del código MODFLOW. El modelo conceptual hidrogeológico consistió en la identificación de las masas de agua de la zona de estudio, la construcción del modelo geológico y la estimación de la recarga al acuífero. El modelo geológico está formado por tres unidades hidrogeológicas, el depósito cuaternario es la capa más superficial, la intermedia es la roca fracturada y última es la denominada como roca. Dicho modelo se construyó en base a la geológica regional, a las mediciones de conductividades hidráulicas, y a los datos obtenidos de los veintiséis sondajes eléctricos verticales y de las treinta y nueve perforaciones. El área de estudio no contaba con información meteorológica, por lo que se estimaron los valores de la precipitación y de la temperatura, mediante el uso de la técnica geoestadística del cokrigeado colocalizado. Calculándose que la precipitación y la temperatura media anual es de 476.9 mm/año y de 10.5°C, respectivamente. El modelo hidrológico consistió en la estimación de la evapotranspiración potencial, la infiltración y la recarga; la primera variable se calculó mediante el método de Hargreaves y se obtuvo un valor medio de 1 252.7 mm/año; la segunda se estimó mediante el modelo número de curva y su valor promedio fue de 515.0 mm/año; mientras que la última se estimó mediante balances hidrometeorológicos, cuyo valor medio fue de 97.0 mm/año En este estudio se simuló tanto en estado estacionario como en transitorio, tomando para este último un paso de tiempo mensual. El río Huamancute se comporta como ganador, ya que la cantidad de agua que recibe del acuífero es mucho mayor a la que él le transfiere; mientras que los otros dos ríos, Laguiña y Quellopata, actúan como perdedores. La laguna Chiquito Parinacocha dona al acuífero un volumen medio de agua de 2.1 103 m3/año. Asimismo se tiene que en el área de estudio, el valor de la recarga media anual es de 5.8 104 m3/año. Por último se calculó que los bofedales extraen del acuífero un caudal promedio de 3.2 104 m3/año. En el estado transitorio se logró que el modelo reprodujera la variabilidad temporal de los caudales que el acuífero entrega a los ríos. Durante los meses que existe recarga, el flujo que acuífero transfiere al río Huamancute es de 56.0 l/s, mientras que en los otros ríos dicho caudal es de 10.0 l/s, aproximadamente. La mayor salida de agua del sistema es hacia los ríos. Asimismo, cuando existe recarga, la mayor parte del agua que ingresa por esta variable es almacenada en las dos primeras capas del acuífero, principalmente por la acción del almacenamiento específico. Se concluyó, que los cálculos de la recarga son mucho más precisas si se utiliza datos meteorológicos diarios, en caso de no contar con esta información, la mejor opción para dichas estimaciones es el cokrigeado colocalizado; y que los modelo numéricos en roca fisurada pueden ser calibrados mediante el método de prueba y error., [EN] Groundwater modeling is a very powerful tool for evaluating fractured aquifers. In this study, it was constructed the mathematical model of the aquifer in the upper part of the Huamancute stream, Ayacucho-Peru, in order to understand the behavior of groundwater in the fractured medium. In the first instance, it was developed the conceptual hydrogeological model, it was taken into account all the information gathered from geology, hydrology, edaphology and climatology; then, it was implemented the numerical model with the help of the MODFLOW code. The hydrogeological conceptual model consisted of the identification of the water masses in the study area, the construction of the geological model and the estimation of the recharge to the aquifer. The geological model is made up of three hydrogeological units, the quaternary deposit is the most superficial layer, the intermediate one is the fractured rock and the last one is called rock. Model was built based on regional geology, measurements of hydraulic conductivities, and data obtained from the twenty-six vertical electrical sounding and from the thirty-nine perforations. The study area did not have meteorological information, so precipitation and temperature values were estimated, using the geostatistical technique of collocated cokriging. Calculating that the annual average precipitation and temperature is 476.9 mm / year and 10.5 ° C, respectively. The hydrological model consisted in the estimating potential evapotranspiration, infiltration and recharge; The first variable was calculated using the Hargreaves method and it was obtained a mean value of 1 252.7 mm / year; the second was estimated using the curve number model and its average value was 515.0 mm / year; while the latter was estimated through hydrometeorological balances, whose average value was 97.0 mm / year. In this study, the model was simulated in steady and transient state, for the latter took a monthly time step. The Huamancute River behaves as the winner, since the amount of water it receives from the aquifer is much greater than that which it transfers; while the other two rivers, Laguiña and Quellopata, act as losers. The Chiquito Parinacocha lagoon donates an average volume of water of 2.1 103 m3 / year to the aquifer. Likewise, in the study area, the value of the average annual recharge is 5.8 104 m3 / year. Finally, it was calculated that the wetlands extract an average flow of 3.2 104 m3 / year from the aquifer. In the transitory state, the model was able to reproduce the temporal variability of the flows that the aquifer gives to the rivers. During the months that there is recharge, the flow that the aquifer transfers to the Huamancute River is 56.0 l / s, while in the other rivers this flow is approximately 10.0 l / s. The largest outlet of water from the system is towards the rivers. Likewise, when there is recharge, most of the water that enters through this variable is stored in the first two layers of the aquifer, mainly due to the action of specific storage. It was concluded that the recharge calculations are much more accurate, if daily meteorological data are used. If this information is not available, the best option for these estimates is collocated cokriging; and that numerical models in fractured rock can be calibrated by trial and error., [CA] El modelatge de les aigües subterrània és una eina molt potent per a l'avaluació dels aqüífers fracturats. En aquest treball, es va construir el model matemàtic de l'aqüífer de la part alta de la feta fallida Huamancute, Ayacucho-el Perú amb la finalitat de comprendre el comportament de les aigües subterrànies en el mitjà fisurado. En una primera instància es va desenvolupar el model hidrogeològic conceptual, en el qual es va tindre en compte tota la informació recapta de geologia, hidrologia, edafologia i climatologia; després es va implementar el model numèric amb l'ajuda del codi MODFLOW. El model conceptual hidrogeològic va consistir en la identificació de les masses d'aigua de la zona d'estudi, la construcció del model geològic i l'estimació de la recàrrega a l'aqüífer. Així mateix, quan existeix recàrrega, la major part de l'aigua que ingressa per aquesta variable és emmagatzemada en les dues primeres capes de l'aqüífer, principalment per l'acció de l'emmagatzematge específic. Es va concloure, que els càlculs de la recàrrega són molt més precises si s'utilitza dades meteorològiques diàries, en cas de no comptar amb aquesta informació, la millor opció per a aquestes estimacions és el cokrigeado colocalizado; i que els modele numèrics en roca fisurada poden ser calibrats mitjançant el mètode de prova i error.

The present work analyses the hydro-mechanical behaviour of bentonite pellet mixtures using a macroscopic overlapping continua approach based on a triple porosity model. Two macrostructural functional levels are considered (inter-pellet pore space and void space between the clay aggregates inside the pellets) as well as a microstructural level (corresponding to the space inside the aggregates). This triple porosity approach reveals that, when assuming a double porosity model, the intrinsic permeability, the tortuosity and the degree of saturation of the single macrostructural level under consideration are the average values of the state functions of the adopted triple porosity model, but are not state functions themselves. The analysis also illustrates that, when assuming the same liquid pressure for the two macrostructural levels of the triple porosity model, it is relatively easy to expand upon the calculation procedures initially developed for a double porosity model to include a triple porosity model. When evaluating the applicability of the model, quality results were obtained, comparable to those of a triple porosity model, for both open and closed bentonite pellet mixtures. The results are better than those obtained with a double porosity model, since the state functions have a stronger physic base when using a triple porosity approach. Encouraging results are also obtained when analysing the overall swelling of a bentonite block and a mixture of bentonite pellets, using the same parameters for both materials. Therefore, given its capacity for relatively simple incorporation in a double porosity models, the model offers an interesting tool for researchers working on improving the characterisation of bentonite pellet mixtures.

La cuenca hidrográfica alta del Río Nevado, constituye una unidad adecuada para la planificación ambiental del territorio, dado que sus límites fisiográficos se mantienen en un tiempo considerablemente mayor a otras unidades de análisis. Las Unidades para la Planificación Ambiental y Social (UPAS), propuestas, orientan el proceso de ordenación y manejo de la cuenca con la participación de los actores que influyen en sus condiciones ambientales, “de manera que se mantenga o restablezca un adecuado equilibrio entre el aprovechamiento social y económico de tales recursos y la conservación de la estructura y la función físico biótica de la cuenca” (Guía Técnica para la Formulación de los Planes de Ordenación y Manejo de Cuencas Hidrográficas, 2014). Son instrumentos propicios para que, tanto en su formulación como en su implementación, se construyan escenarios que permitan el desarrollo de la gobernanza del agua, donde se reflejen los acuerdos y compromisos entre el poder público, la sociedad civil, las comunidades étnicas y los sectores económicos. Estas deben partir de ejercicios como el presente, donde las unidades diagnósticas homogéneas permiten la gobernanza en medio de la diversidad y la diferencia dentro de un objetivo común.

Dentro del análisis para el establecimiento de las presiones antrópicas y naturales en el Parque Nacional Natural El Cocuy en la cuenca alta del Río Nevado, la caracterización socioeconómica resulta fundamental para establecer la forma en que se desarrollan todas las actividades humanas en el proceso de construcción territorial dentro del área de estudio. Aspectos como el uso del espacio, las condiciones de vida, las formas de organización productiva, el uso de los recursos y las relaciones que se establecen entre los diferentes actores y el medio físico en que estas se desarrollan, permiten definir un panorama más amplio y detallado acerca de los procesos de transformación del espacio y de los saldos que dejan esas transformaciones. Al considerar que el objetivo principal del componente es el análisis de la situación socioeconómica de los habitantes del territorio y sus formas de organización y producción, a través de sus principales determinantes, la primera actividad desarrollada consistió en la identificación de las dimensiones o categorías a través de las cuales se adelantaría dicho análisis, a manera de ruta de trabajo, en la cual se organizan las demás actividades y de la cual depende el tipo de información a recoger y procesar tanto de las fuentes primarias como secundarias. En este sentido, se definieron 3 dimensiones principales, donde cada uno de los productos del componente socioeconómico corresponderá un proceso descriptivo y correlacional entre las categorías y las variables incluidas en cada una de ellas, aplicando instrumentos de trabajo como las entrevistas semiestructuradas y consulta de fuentes primarias; observación participante, el desarrollo de mesas de trabajo, identificación y consulta de fuentes de información secundaria y la construcción de herramientas cuantitativas de análisis a partir de la recolección, organización y sistematización de la información.

The use of a generative approach for sound synthesis breaksthrough the limitations of traditional approaches, proposing novel ways to explore creative ideas. This paper demonstrates a method to generate original bird vocalizations using a Variational Convolutional Autoencoder trained onmel-spectrograms of bird song and call recordings. Thevocalizations are reconstructed by sampling the latent spaceand decompressing the resulting mel-spectrogram. Theresults are quite promising, in that our system is able togenerate a variety of bird vocalizations depicting plausiblesongs and calls, by interpolating between existing vocalizations or sampling the latent space. A Twitter bot thatpublishes a unique daily bird vocalization is also implemented.

Financiera Qapaq es una empresa peruana de capitales ecuatorianos que comenzó a operar en nuestro país el año 2010 con el objetivo de brindar oportunidades de desarrollo económico a toda la población a través del otorgamiento de servicios financieros a personas de menor poder adquisitivo, fomentando la inclusión financiera y la igualdad de oportunidades. El objetivo principal de la consultoría fue identificar los principales problemas que no le permiten a Financiera Qapaq alcanzar sus metas institucionales, el cual se realizó a través de encuestas y reuniones de trabajo con los colaboradores; detectados los problemas se procedió al análisis de las principales causas raíces, para posteriormente proponer alternativas de solución para hacer frente a la situación actual. Se pudo identificar cuatro problemas principales: (a) altas tasas de interés; (b) bajos niveles de rentabilidad; (c) altos niveles de morosidad; y (d) bajo posicionamiento de la marca. Estos problemas tienen como causas raíces a las altas tasas de interés, deficiencias en el proceso de otorgamiento de créditos, deficiencia en el proceso de recuperación de créditos y a los altos niveles de rotación de personal en todas las agencias; los cuales están dando lugar a un menor número de colocaciones de créditos y la migración de los clientes a otras entidades financieras que ofrecen mejores beneficios. Con el fin de mejorar la rentabilidad y la situación actual de Financiera Qapaq, se proponen cambios en la política de fijación de tasas de interés para alinearlas con las otorgadas por los principales agentes del mercado, a fin de ser mucho más competitivos. En el caso de los procesos de concesión de créditos y recuperaciones, se propone un rediseño de los procesos mediante la implementación de un sistema de gestión de procesos para optimizarlos y poder acelerar los tiempos para brindar un mejor servicio al cliente. Finalmente, con respecto al alto nivel de rotación del personal, se propone la implementación de una política de retención y lealtad para el personal. Financiera Qapaq is a Peruvian company with Ecuadorian Capitals that begun, in our country, operations in 2010 with the goal to bring up economic development opportunities through financial services placement to people of lower purchasing power, boosting by this way, the financial inclusion and equal opportunities. The consulting main goal was to identify problems that not allow to Financiera Qapaq to reach its financial goals for which there were conducted surveys and working team meetings with employees. Once the gaps were identified, it was proceeded with principal components analysis of gaps for then establish solution proposals to face the current scenario. There was found four main problems for Fianciera Qapaq: (a) high interest rates; (b) low profitability; (c) high late payment; and (d) poor branding position. The main reason for these problems is because of high interest rates, process deficiencies for credit granting and collection and customer migration to other financial companies because of better benefits. With the objective to improve profitability and current situation of Financiera Qapaq, there are proposed to change interest rates policies to equal it with the market rates to increase in this way, the competitivity of the company. Regarding the credit granting and collection process, it is proposed a business process redesign through a business process management system with the purpose of improving the current process and reduce attention times to bring up better customer service. Objective To standardize clinical evaluation of patients with axial spondyloarthritis (SpA) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) using a checklist. Methods Qualitative study that included: (1) nominal group (18 experts); (2) literature reviews of measures used in the assessment of patients with axial SpA or PsA; and (3) focus groups, one with rheumatologists and another with patients, organized to become familiar with their opinion on medical assistance. Taking this into account, the experts selected the measures to be included in the checklist based on their relevance, feasibility, and the outcome type. Results The checklist includes measures for the evaluation of personal history, physical examination, activity and function, laboratory tests, imaging studies and treatments. It also defines risk factors of radiographic progression, predictors of the response to biological therapies, and comprises measures of excellence. Conclusions This checklist for patients with axial SpA and PsA could help standardize daily clinical practice and improve clinical management and patient prognosis.

Resumen Objetivo Estandarizar la evaluacion clinica de pacientes con espondiloartritis (EspA) axial y artritis psoriasica (APs). Metodos Estudio cualitativo que incluyo: 1) grupo nominal (18 expertos); 2) revision de la literatura sobre variables empleadas en la evaluacion de los pacientes con EspA axial o APs, y 3) grupo focal con reumatologos y otro con pacientes con EspA axial o APs para analizar la evaluacion de las EspA en las consultas de reumatologia. Los expertos seleccionaron las variables a incluir en el cuadro de actuacion con base en su relevancia, factibilidad en consulta y metodo/s de medicion. Resultados El cuadro de actuacion incluye las variables para valorar antecedentes personales, exploracion fisica, actividad y funcion, pruebas complementarias y tratamientos. Detalla factores de riesgo de progresion radiografica, factores predictores de respuesta a terapia biologica, e incluye variables de excelencia. Conclusiones Este cuadro de actuacion para pacientes con EspA axial y APs podra ayudar a homogeneizar la practica clinica diaria y a mejorar el manejo y el pronostico de estos pacientes.
