High fish predation pressure can trigger "induced defense" in Daphnia species, resulting in phenotypic plasticity in morphology, behavior, or life-history traits. The molecular mechanisms of defense morphogenesis (e.g. the tail spine and helmet) in Daphnia remain unclear. In the present study, the tail spine, helmet, and body of Daphnia galeata under fish and non-fish kairomones conditions were collected for transcriptome analysis. A total of 24 candidate genes related to the morphological defense of D. galeata were identified, including 2 trypsin, one cuticle protein, 1 C1qDC protein, and 2 ferritin genes. The function of the Dagcut gene (D. galeata cuticle protein gene) in relation to tail spine morphology was assessed using RNA interference (RNAi). Compared with the EGFP (Enhanced green fluorescent protein) treatment, after RNAi, the expression levels of the Dagcut gene (D. galeata cuticle protein gene) showed a significant decrease. Correspondingly, the tail spines of the offspring produced by D. galeata after RNAi of the Dagcut gene appeared curved during the experiment. In whole-mount in situ hybridization, a clear signal site was detected on the tail spine of D. galeata before RNAi which disappeared after RNAi. Our results suggest that the Dagcut gene may play an important role in tail spine formation of D. galeata , and will provide a theoretical basis for studying the molecular mechanisms of the morphological plasticity in cladocera in the future. Auxin, a pivotal regulator of diverse plant growth processes, remains central to development. The auxin-responsive genes auxin/indole-3-acetic acids (AUX/IAAs) are indispensable for auxin signal transduction, which is achieved through intricate interactions with auxin response factors (ARFs). Despite this, the potential of AUX/IAAs to govern the development of the most fundamental biological unit, the single cell, remains unclear. In this study, we harnessed cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) fiber, a classic model for plant single-cell investigation, to determine the complexities of AUX/IAAs. Our research identified 2 pivotal AUX/IAAs, auxin resistant 2 (GhAXR2) and short hypocotyl 2 (GhSHY2), which exhibit opposite control over fiber development. Notably, suppressing GhAXR2 reduced fiber elongation, while silencing GhSHY2 fostered enhanced fiber elongation. Investigating the mechanistic intricacies, we identified specific interactions between GhAXR2 and GhSHY2 with distinct ARFs. GhAXR2's interaction with GhARF6-1 and GhARF23-2 promoted fiber cell development through direct binding to the AuxRE cis-element in the constitutive triple response 1 promoter, resulting in transcriptional inhibition. In contrast, the interaction of GhSHY2 with GhARF7-1 and GhARF19-1 exerted a negative regulatory effect, inhibiting fiber cell growth by activating the transcription of xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/hydrolase 9 and cinnamate-4-hydroxylase. Thus, our study reveals the intricate regulatory networks surrounding GhAXR2 and GhSHY2, elucidating the complex interplay of multiple ARFs in AUX/IAA-mediated fiber cell growth. This work enhances our understanding of single-cell development and has potential implications for advancing plant growth strategies and agricultural enhancements. This study proposes an approximated estimator for moment condition models. Our estimator approximates the exponentially tilted empirical likelihood (ETEL) estimator in Schennach (2007) by using a second-order approximation of implied probabilities (IPs) for the exponential tilting (ET). The resulting approximated ETEL estimator generates positive IPs. As the nested optimization of ETEL and EL is avoided, it is computationally simple. It is second-order asymptotically equivalent to the EL estimator. In particular, it has the same O(n−1) bias as EL. It also has the same O(n−2) variance as EL. Aided by the local fractional derivative, we present a new local fractional (3+1)-dimensional Kadomstev-Petviashvili equation for describing the fractal water wave in this work. The non-differentiable transform is utilized to convert the local fractional equation into a local fractional ODE. On defining the Mittag-Leffler function on the Cantor sets, then a trialfunction based on the Mittag-Leffler function is proposed to seek for the non-differentiable exact solutions. Abstract Altered metabolism is a hallmark of cancer, and the reprogramming of energy metabolism has historically been considered a general phenomenon of tumors. It is well recognized that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) regulate energy metabolism in cancer. However, lncRNA‐mediated posttranslational modifications and metabolic reprogramming are unclear at present. In this review, we summarized the current understanding of the interactions between the alterations in cancer‐associated energy metabolism and the lncRNA‐mediated posttranslational modifications of metabolic enzymes, transcription factors, and other proteins involved in metabolic pathways. In addition, we discuss the mechanisms through which these interactions contribute to tumor initiation and progression, and the key roles and clinical significance of functional lncRNAs. We believe that an in‐depth understanding of lncRNA‐mediated cancer metabolic reprogramming can help to identify cellular vulnerabilities that can be exploited for cancer diagnosis and therapy.

This study analyzed the trend in semen quality of infertile male patients in Wenzhou, China, based on the data obtained from 38 905 patients during 2008–2016 in The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University (Wenzhou, China). The results showed that only 24.9% of the patients had normal semen quality. For the semen quality of infertile male patients, that of the workers and 40-year-olds was significantly worse than the other occupational and age groups. For all the infertile patients, low semen volume, asthenozoospermia, and teratozoospermia accounted for 8.4%, 50.5%, and 54.1%, respectively. During 2008–2016, the annual mean percentage of fast forward motile spermatozoa, percentage of total forward motile spermatozoa, and percentage of spermatozoa with normal morphology decreased linearly with slopes of −2.11, −2.59, and −0.70, respectively. The proportion of patients with asthenozoospermia and multi-abnormal spermatozoa increased during 2008–2016 with slopes of 4.70 and 4.87, respectively, while for low semen volume, it decreased with a slope of −0.47 in the same time period. The proportion of patients with teratozoospermia increased from 2008 to 2011 and from 2011 to 2016 with slopes of 17.10 and 2.09, respectively. In general, the deteriorating trend of semen quality of infertile male patients in Wenzhou was obvious. Future efforts should be made to reveal the adverse influences on semen quality, such as occupational exposure, environmental quality, and living habits. Furthermore, more pervasive reproduction health education is necessary.

IncHI2 plasmids, possessing high flexibility and genetic plasticity, play a vital role in the acquisition and transmission of resistance determinants. Polymorphic mobile genetic elements (MGEs) generated by a chromosomally integrated IncHI2 plasmid in an individual Salmonella isolate have not yet been detected, and the mechanisms of the formation, excision, and dynamic evolution of a multidrug-resistant chromosomally integrated plasmid (MRCP) have remained obscure. Herein, we identified a 260-kb blaCTX–M–55-qnrS1-bearing IncHI2 plasmid within a Salmonella Muenster strain. Plenty of heterogeneous MGEs (new Escherichia coli chromosomally integrated plasmid or circular plasmids with different profiles) were yielded when this MRCP was conjugated into E. coli J53 with a transfer frequency of 10–4–10–5 transconjugants per donor. A bioinformatic analysis indicated that replicative transposition and homologous recombination of IS26 elements were particularly active, and the truncated Tn1721 also played a vital role in the formation of MRCP offspring. More importantly, when released from the chromosome, MRCP could capture and co-transfer adjacent chromosomal segments to form larger plasmid progeny than itself. Stability and growth kinetics assays showed that the biological characteristics of MRCP progeny were differentiated. This study provides an insight into a flexible existence of MRCP. The conversion between vertical and horizontal transmission endowed MRCP with genetic stability as a chromosomal coding structure and transferability as extra-chromosomal elements. This alternation may accelerate the acquisition and persistence of antibiotic resistance of clinical pathogens and enhance their ability to respond to adverse environments, which poses a great challenge to the traditional antibiotic treatment.
