Abstract The application of totally implantable access ports (TIAPs) reduces treatment-related discomfort; however, the existence of catheter may cause side effects, with the most common one being the occurrence of TIAPs-associated thrombosis. The risk factors for TIAPs-associated thrombosis in pediatric oncology patients have not been fully described. A total of 587 pediatric oncology patients undergoing TIAPs implantation at a single center over a 5-year period were retrospectively analyzed in the present study. We investigated the risk factors for thrombosis, emphasizing the internal jugular vein distance, by measuring the vertical distance from the highest point of the catheter to the upper border of the left and right extremitas sternalis claviculae on chest X-ray images. Among 587 patients, 143 (24.4%) had thrombosis. Platelet count, C-reactive protein, and the vertical distance from the highest point of the catheter to the upper border of the left and right extremitas sternalis claviculae were demonstrated to be the main risk factors for the development of TIAPs-associated thrombosis. TIAPs-associated thrombosis, especially asymptomatic events, is common in pediatric cancer patients. The vertical distance from the highest point of the catheter to the upper border of the left and right extremitas sternalis claviculae was a risk factor for TIAPs-associated thrombosis, which deserved additional attention.

Abstract The purpose of feature learning is to obtain effective representation of the raw data and then improve the performance of machine learning algorithms such as clustering or classification. Some of the existing feature learning algorithms use discriminant information in the data to improve the representation of data features, but the discrimination of the data feature representation is not enough. In order to further enhance the discrimination, discriminant feature learning based on t-distribution stochastic neighbor embedding guided by pairwise constraints (pcDTSNE) is proposed in this paper. pcDTSNE introduces pairwise constraints by clustering ensemble and uses these pairwise constraints to impose penalties on the objective function, which makes sample points in the mapping space present stronger discrimination. In order to verify the feature learning performance of pcDTSNE, extensive experiments are carried out on several public data sets. The experimental results show that the expression ability of data representation generated by pcDTSNE is further improved.

Objective To investigate the applicability of Beckman PK7300 for TPPA testing on anti-TP reactive specimens from blood donors. Methods 1) The TPPA test using Beckman PK7300 (abbreviated as instrument method) had been established and the performance was verificated by calculating the total compliance rate, positive compliance rate and negative compliance rate as compared with the manual method. The repeatability of this instrument method was also evaluated. 2) The applicability of the instrument method was evaluated by examing 555 TP-reactive samples for 6 consecutive days, so as to analyze the readable reading rate, agglutination strength distribution and other control methods. Results 1) The total, positive, and negative compliance rates of TPPA detection by both instrumental and manual methods were 100% (kappa value =1). The SPC value of samples, read manually as " + + ", was less than or equal to 3 by Beckman PK7300; the SPC value of samples, read manually as " -", was greater than or equal to 20 by Beckman PK7300. The two methods were well consistent. The instrument method was repeated for 12 times for the same samples, and the accuracy rate was 100% (12 / 12), with good repeatability.2) The results of the TPPA test in 555 anti-TP reactivity specimens showed an overall readable rate of 99.82%(554/555). The SPC values of the negative and unsensitized particles of TPPA were distributed on both sides of the determination value without crossover. The control and monitor thoughout the test were carried out automatically by the instrument. Conclusion The TPPA test conducted by the Beckman PK7300 fully automatic blood group instrument is suitable for the confirmatory experiment of anti-TP reactive specimens in blood center laboratories, which could realize the automation and standardization of TPPA detection.

Offshore oil and gas resources play a crucial role in supplementing the energy needs of human society. The crisscrossing subsea pipeline network, which serves as vital infrastructure for the storage and transportation of offshore oil and gas, requires regular inspection and maintenance to ensure safe operation and prevent ecological pollution. In-line inspection (ILI) techniques have been widely used in the detection and inspection of potential hazards within the pipeline network. This paper offers an overview of ILI techniques used in subsea pipelines, examining their advantages, limitations, applicable scenarios, and performance. It aims to provide valuable insights for the selection of ILI technologies in engineering and may be beneficial for those involved in pipeline integrity management and planning.

WTe2 has attracted much attention because of its layered structure and special electronic energy band structure. However, due to the difficulty of evaporating the W element itself and the inactivity of the Te element, the obtained large-area WTe2 thin films are usually accompanied by many defects. In this paper, WTe2 nanocrystalline films were successfully prepared on quartz substrates using magnetron sputtering and chemical vapor deposition techniques. Various analytical techniques such as X-ray Diffraction, Raman spectra, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscope, and photoluminescence spectra are employed to analyze the crystal structure, composition, and morphology. The effects of different tellurization temperatures and tellurization times on the properties of WTe2 thin films were investigated. WTe2 nanocrystalline films with good crystallinity were obtained at 600 °C for 30 min. The thermal conductivity of the WTe2 films prepared under this condition was 1.173 Wm−1K−1 at 300 K, which is significantly higher than that of samples prepared using other methods.

Biological control methods provide a sustainable approach for reducing agricultural losses caused by locust plagues. Space mutagenesis can generate high numbers of mutations using satellites and spacecrafts, including beneficial and stable mutants. Aspergillus oryzae XJ-1 was recently reported to show high virulence against locusts. We subjected this fungal pathogen to space mutagenesis to obtain more effective strains. Pathogen conidia powder was mutated in the China Space Station for 6 months. We obtained five mutants of A. oryzae XJ-1, TQ201, TQ238, TQ302, TQ549, and TQ555, and all mutants were identified as A. oryzae by molecular techniques. TQ549 showed the highest virulence against adult L. migratoria (LT50: 4.97 ± 0.21 days); the LT50 of A. oryzae XJ-1 was 5.67 ± 0.06 days. Both TQ549 and A. oryzae XJ-1 grew most rapidly at 33 °C on potato dextrose agar (PDA) plates. There was no significant difference in the growth rate of TQ549 and A. oryzae XJ-1 at 24 °C. The colony morphological characteristics of the five mutants on PDA plates differed from that of A. oryzae XJ-1. The space mutant TQ549, which showed high virulence against adult locusts, could be used as a biological control agent for the control of locust infestations.

ObjectivesThis systematic review aimed to comprehensively understand the comorbidity of cerebral palsy (CP) in China.MethodsWe searched through databases in both Chinese and English until December 2022 to gather cross-sectional studies on the comorbidity of CP in China. After two reviewers independently screened the articles, collected the data, and assessed the bias risk, a meta-analysis was conducted using the Stata 17.0 software.ResultsA total of 73 articles were included. Of these, 16 articles reported total comorbidity, with a prevalence of 79.7% (95% CI: 73.8–85.7%); 56 articles reported epilepsy, with a prevalence of 17.9% (95% CI: 15.4–20.4%); 48 articles reported intellectual disability, with a prevalence of 58.0% (95% CI: 51.8–64.3%); 32 articles reported speech disorders, with a prevalence of 48.0% (95% CI: 41.6–54.4%); 41 articles reported hearing disorders, with a prevalence of 17.2% (95% CI: 13.0–21.4%); and 35 articles reported vision disorders, with a prevalence of 23.1% (95% CI: 16.3–29.8%). The topographical type of CP was the primary source of heterogeneity in the prevalence of epilepsy. Diagnostic criteria for CP, clinical type of CP, GMFCS, publishing time, and topographical type of CP were the primary sources of heterogeneity in the prevalence of intellectual disability. Clinical type of CP and topographical type were the primary sources of heterogeneity in the prevalence of speech disorders. Finally, the region was the primary source of heterogeneity in the prevalence of hearing disorders.ConclusionThe prevalence of comorbidities in CP is high in China. Comorbidities are related to the characteristics, severity, and risk factors of brain insult and have a particular relationship with regional economic development and medical and health levels.

Summary: Adducin 1 (Add1) is known as a membrane cytoskeletal protein, but its nuclear function remains unclear. In this study, we generated add1-deficient zebrafish to investigate its role in hematopoiesis. Lack of add1 impaired both primitive and definitive hematopoiesis, preventing healthy erythrocyte development. RNA sequencing revealed activation of the p53 pathway in add1-depleted erythroblast cells, leading to apoptosis at the 14-somites stage and 24 hpf. Interestingly, partial rescue of the anemic phenotype and apoptosis was observed with p53 insufficiency. Mechanistically, ADD1 was found to regulate promoter activity. These findings demonstrate that Add1 plays a crucial role in zebrafish erythropoiesis, involving the p53-mediated apoptotic pathway, expanding its regulatory role beyond cytoskeletal functions.

Cytosine arabinoside (Ara-C) is one of the most widely used chemotherapeutic agents for hematological malignancies. The residues of Ara-C have been detected in wastewater and river water with increased usage and discharge. As the ability to cross the placenta and the teratogenicity at low ng/L levels, the toxic effects on pregnant women and infants have been concerned. The toxicity of Ara-C exposure on early embryonic neurodevelopment has not been fully elucidated. In this study, pregnant C57BL/6 mice were injected with different doses of Ara-C on Gestation day (GD) 7.5 and assessed on GD11.5 and GD13.5 to explore the neural developmental effects of Ara-C. HE staining, immunofluorescence, western blot, EdU assay, and flow cytometry were utilized to determine the toxic effects of Ara-C in vivo and in vitro. Our results showed that Ara-C (15–22.5 mg/kg body weight) induced the occurrence of neural tube defects (NTDs). This systematic review aims to offer an updated understanding of the relationship between omega-3 supplementation and/or vitamin D and autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The databases PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, EMBASE, CINAHL, Vip, CNKI, Wanfang, China Biomedical Database databases were searched using keywords, and relevant literature was hand-searched. Papers (n = 1,151) were systematically screened and deemed eligible since 2002. Twenty clinical controlled studies were included in the final review. The findings were analyzed for intervention effects focusing on the core symptoms of ASD, included social functioning, behavioral functioning, speech function and biomarkers changes. The review found that the effects of omega-3 supplementation on ASD were too weak to conclude that core symptoms were alleviated. Vitamin D supplementation improved core symptoms, particularly behavioral functioning, however, the results of the literatures included in this study were slightly mixed, we cannot directly conclude that vitamin D supplementation has a beneficial effect on a specific symptom of ASD, but the overall conclusion is that vitamin D supplementation has a positive effect on behavioral functioning in ASD. Omega-3 and vitamin D combination supplementation has a good combined effect on social and behavioral outcomes in patients with ASD.

Pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma (PACC) is a rare pancreatic malignancy with unique clinical, molecular, and morphologic features. The long-term survival of patients with PACC is substantially better than that of patients with ductal adenocarcinoma of the pancreas. Surgical resection is considered the first choice for treatment; however, there is no standard treatment option for patients with inoperable disease. The patient with metastatic PACC reported herein survived for more than 5 years with various treatments including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, antiangiogenic therapy and combined immunotherapy.

ObjectiveTo study the worldwide prevalence and associated factors of epilepsy in children and adolescents with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and to analyze the differences between various subgroups.MethodWe identified all potential studies on the prevalence of epilepsy in children and adolescents with CP from PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase. The search time was from the establishment of the database to November 2022. Randomized effects meta-analysis models were used to calculate the prevalence of epilepsy in CP. Subgroup analysis and meta-regression were utilized to further explore heterogeneity between articles and prevalence disparities between subgroups. The funnel plot and Egger's test were used to investigate potential publication bias.ResultsSeventy-two articles, comprising 53,969 children and adolescents with CP, were included in this study. The results indicated a total epilepsy prevalence of 38.0% (95% CI: 34.8%–41.2%) in CP. The prevalence of epilepsy was 46.4% (95% CI: 41.4%–51.5%) in clinical sample-based studies and 31.6% (95% CI: 28.7%–34.5%) in population-based studies. Meta-regression demonstrated that the sample source, neonatal seizure, family history of epilepsy, EEG or cranial imaging abnormalities, intellectual/cognitive impairment, and topographical types of CP were heterogeneous contributors to the epilepsy prevalence in CP.ConclusionApproximately one-third of children and adolescents with CP have epilepsy, and the sample source can significantly impact the total prevalence of epilepsy. Neonatal seizures, family history of epilepsy, EEG abnormalities, cranial imaging abnormalities, severe intellectual disability, and quadriplegia may be contributing factors to epilepsy comorbid in CP. Further study is required to verify the strength of these associations with epilepsy. This study aids in identifying the clinical characteristics of young people with CP at risk of developing epilepsy, which may assist clinicians in the early prevention and diagnosis of epilepsy within this population.Systematic Review Registration:https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/display_record.php?RecordID=367766, identifier CRD42022367766.
