Abstract

Museale Provenienzforschung zu NS-verfolgungsbedingt entzogenem Kulturgut befasst sich nicht nur mit hochwertigen Kunstobjekten und wertvollen Buchbeständen, sondern nimmt seit geraumer Zeit auch Alltagsgegenstände und nicht zuletzt technische Instrumente und Geräte sowie Fahrzeuge in den Blick. Methodische Vorgehensweisen und bisherige Ergebnisse der Provenienzforschung zu technischem Kulturgut wurden erstmals auf einem im September 2021 vom Deutschen Optischen Museum in Jena veranstalteten Workshop diskutiert. Der Sammelband „Technisches Kulturgut. Zirkulation, Ansammlungen und Dokumente des Entzugs zwischen 1933 und 1945“ fasst die Beiträge und Ergebnisse der Tagung zusammen und stellt die im April 2022 gegründete „Arbeitsgemeinschaft Technisches Kulturgut“ kurz vor. Neun Provenienzforscherinnen und Provenienzforscherforscher aus Deutschland und Österreich liefern Einblicke in verschiedene Forschungsprojekte zur Herkunft von technischem Kulturgut in musealen Sammlungen. Wenn auch die vorgestellten Fälle jeweils unterschiedliche Sammlungsgenesen und Objektgattungen behandeln, so gleichen sich die damit verbundenen Problematiken dennoch. Insbesondere wird die Frage aufgeworfen, mit welchen Identifizierungsmethoden technische Objekte mit NS-Verfolgungskontexten in großen Sammlungen identifiziert werden können. Zudem liefern die Beiträge wichtige Angaben zu Händlern und Sammlern historisch-technischer Objekte.

Abstract

Roland Freisler was a leading Nazi lawyer, civil servant, and judge. The main focus of the thesis is on Freisler���s hitherto neglected experiences during the Weimar Republic and his role in facilitating the transition of the German legal system from the democratic Rechtsstaat to the Nazi dictatorship. The first chapter (1893-1920) examines Freisler���s experiences during the First World War and its revolutionary aftermath and sheds doubt on the much-repeated claim that he had ���converted��� to Bolshevism. The second chapter (1920-1922) provides a close reading of his doctoral dissertation and early academic work. The close collaboration with his supervisor, Justus Wilhelm Hedemann, as well as stellar grades paved the ground for a stellar legal career. As the third chapter (1924-1930) shows, these ambitions were squashed and Freisler began to pursue an alternative career as a leading Nazi lawyer, who broke down the boundaries between street, courtroom, and city parliament in order to undermine the Novembersystem. The fourth chapter (1930-1932) looks at Freisler���s breakthrough during the early 1930s when he became a leading local politician as well as an indispensable legal advisor. The fifth chapter (1933) provides a close reading of Freisler���s role in the Nazi seizure of power, which shows that the especially violent period of transition is instrumental for understanding the nature of legal politics in the ���Third Reich���. The penultimate chapter (1933-1942) traces the residues of these Weimar experiences through a selection of case studies from Freisler���s time as Staatssekret��r in the Prussian and Reich Ministry of Justice. The final chapter (1942-1945) does the same for his stint as President of the Volksgerichtshof. The paper addresses the problems of traditional keyword based search engines that process query syntactically rather than semantically. In order to increase degree of relevance and higher precision to recall ratio, it describes proposed architecture of Semantic Search Engine (SSE) which incorporates Google search results as input and processes them with the help of Semantic Web (SW) technologies. Modules to accomplish various tasks like query processing, importing existing ontologies and extraction of knowledge have been introduced in proposed framework. Abstract

Guided by the question about the reasons that lead Friedrich Hölderlin, poet and thinker, to show, during his youth, a special attraction toward the city of Jena, where he stayed during a short period of time, during 1794 to 1795 winter semester, the author examines and analyses the influence of Kant’s thought and Schiller’s literary and philosophical production, as well as the Greek texts he read at the time –particularly Plato–, over the young poet. The analysis is focused specially on the way in which the interpretation of Kant’s thought, which Hölderlin had learned in the seminar in Tübingen, combined with the nostalgic perspective of Schiller’s early writings, mediated Hölderlin’s reception of the Greeks.

Bajo la pregunta por las razones que llevaron al poeta y pensador Friedrich Hölderlin a manifestar en su juventud una atracción especial por la ciudad de Jena, donde permaneció una corta temporada en el semestre de invierno de 1794 a 1795, el autor rastrea y analiza las influencias que ejercieron sobre el joven poeta el pensamiento de Kant y la producción literaria y filosófica de Schiller, así como las lecturas que por entonces haría de los griegos, especialmente de Platón. El artículo se concentra en analizar, particularmente, la manera como la interpretación de la filosofía kantiana, reinante en el seminario de Tübinga -lugar donde Hölderlin realizó sus estudios- combinada con la mirada nostálgica por la Antigüedad, característica de las primeras producciones de Schiller, mediaron la recepción que Hölderlin llevaría a cabo de los griegos.

Abstract

The first hurdle after installing VIVO is to fill it with an initial set of data about an institution, its researchers and their publications. Done manually it is a cumbersome and time-consuming process. One approach to overcome this is to use open-data containing a persistent identifier(PID) like ROR, ORCID or DOI. The advantage lies in the reduced processing of input data: since data does not need to be disambiguated, the data ingestion process can be reduced to mapping the data to the VIVO ontology. While several tools exist that are able to import one PID-identified object into VIVO, the release of Datacite Commons takes this approach to the next level. Datacite Commons offers an interface to a so-called PID-Graph: a structure of multiple connected data objects each identified by a PID. It makes queries possible that take advantage of the connections between several PIDs like e.g. querying an organization (identified by a ROR iD) and its affiliated persons (identified by their ORCID iD) and subsequently their publications (identified by a DOI), and thus providing a quick data basis for an empty Research Information System. In this talk, we will present a microservice importing data from the Datacite Commons PID-Graph and the ROR API into VIVO ( https://github.com/vivo-community/generate2vivo ). This microservice is based on lifting rules defined using the SPARQL-Generate RDF transformation language, which we will overview beforehand. SPARQL-Generate is an expressive template-based language to generate RDF streams or text streams from RDF datasets and document streams in arbitrary formats (for more information see website https://w3id.org/sparql-generate/ ), Diese Arbeit ist im Projekt TAPIR entstanden. Ausgangspunkt dieser Arbeit sind Überlegungen zur Akzeptanz von Einschränkungen und Eingriffen in Grundrechte angesichts der COVID-19-Pandemie. Als dialog-rekonstruierende Untersuchung setzt sie sich aus einem qualitativen Forschungsansatz heraus mit der Krisenkommunikation der Stadt Jena auf deren Facebook-Seite in dem spezifischen Kontext der Corona-Pandemie auseinander. Auf fallspezifischer Ebene soll transparent gemacht werden, wie diskursive Aushandlungsprozesse im Dialog zwischen politischem Akteur und betroffener Teilöffentlichkeit in Bezug auf weitreichende Krisenmaßnahmen verlaufen können. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt auf der Analyse kritischer Diskurssituationen zwischen der Stadt Jena und den Facebook-Nutzern hinsichtlich der zum damaligen Zeitpunkt sehr umstrittenen Maßnahme der Maskenpflicht. Es wurden insgesamt 65 Posts der Stadt Jena sowie 5.271 Kommentare aus dem Zeitraum vom 30. März 2020 bis 11. Mai 2020 herangezogen. Die Datenaufbereitung und -verwaltung wurde unter Zuhilfenahme von Excel und MAXQDA realisiert. Methodisch orientiert sich die Arbeit an wissenssoziologischen Ansätzen der Diskursanalyse. Im Rahmen von drei Analysedimensionen – 1. Thematische Entwicklungen, diskursive Ereignisse und Kontextualisierung, 2. Deutungsmuster und 3. Akteure und Beziehungen – wurde das Textkorpus untersucht. Bei der Offenlegung der thematischen Struktur wurde deutlich, dass v.a. die anfängliche Ankündigung der Maskenpflicht sowie die spätere Ankündigung einer Pflicht im Schulunterricht Konfliktherde markierten. Die Analyse zeigte zudem, dass sich insbesondere vier Deutungsmustern bedient wurde, um eine spezifische Perspektive auf die Maskenpflicht zu fördern und sie damit zu legitimieren bzw. zu delegitimieren: 1. Maskenpflicht unter Gesundheitsaspekten, 2. Maskenpflicht unter Gesichtspunkten der Verhältnismäßigkeit, 3. Folgen einer Maskenpflicht-Umsetzung in der Praxis und 4. Maskenpflicht als Alleingang der Stadt Jena.

Abstract

Extremely large datasets found in Big Data projects are difficult to work with using conventional databases, statistical software, and visualization tools. Massively parallel software, such as Hadoop, running on tens, hundreds, or even thousands of servers is more suitable for Big Data challenges. Additionally, in order to achieve the highest performance when querying large datasets, it is necessary to work these datasets at rest without preprocessing or moving them into a repository. Therefore, this work will analyze tools and techniques to overcome working with large datasets at rest. Parsing and querying will be done on the raw dataset - the untouched Web Data Commons RDF files. Web Data Commons comprises five billion pages of web pages crawled from the Internet. This work will analyze available tools and appropriate methods to assist the Big Data developer in working with these extremely large, semantic RDF datasets. Hadoop, open source parsers, and Amazon Cloud services will be used to data mine these files. In order to assist in further discovery, recommendations for future research will be included. Abstract

Obtaining information which is both trustworthy and relevant to the user is crucial for the success of the Travel Recommender Systems. Such a system should automatically obtain high quality facts and knowledge about the touristic attractions, filter them and present the user only those pieces which are of interest for him. To this end, a challenging issue is to select among the existing technologies those able to be articulated into a system which could fulfill the mentioned task. The system we propose has a pragmatic approach of the problem, aiming to identify the instruments to be used in touristic information gathering, if integrated in such a system. The system is built around a map system and a general purpose ontology and makes use of parsing techniques in order to retrieve additional information from web sources via a search engine. We present our ongoing work on user data and contextual privacy preservation in mobile devices through semantic reasoning. Recent advances in context modeling, tracking and collaborative localization have led to the emergence of a new class of smart phone applications that can access and share embedded sensor data. Unfortunately, this also means significant amount of user context information is now accessible to applications and potentially others, creating serious privacy and security concerns. Mobile OS frameworks like Android lack mechanisms for dynamic privacy control. We show how data flow among applications can be successfully filtered at a much more granular level using semantic web driven technologies that model device location, surroundings, application roles as well as context-dependent information sharing policies. Scientific effects, which are knowledge of scientific principles, can be used to transform inputs to outputs and achieve corresponding functions. How to manage and make full use of them to support the conceptual design is an important task. Many papers focused on the expression and retrieval of function ontology, few related to the reasoning rules on the function expansion with attributes of function and flow. This paper proposed a rule-based ontology reasoning for scientific effects retrieval with expanding 5 groups reasoning rules based on Jena reasoning engine. A proto type software is developed.
