In order to explore the main regulatory genes and related pathways of growth traits, transcriptome sequencing was first performed on the brain, liver, and muscle tissues of 3-month-old M. armatus with different growth rates. By comparative transcriptome analysis of fast-growing and slow-growing groups of M. armatus, a total of 2887 DEGs were screened, of which 59 up-regulated genes and 105 down-regulated genes were detected in the brain, 146 up-regulated genes and 202 down-regulated genes were detected in the liver, and 529 up-regulated genes and 1846 down-regulated genes were detected in muscle, including insulin-like growth factor binding protein 1a (IGFBP1A), insulin-like growth factor binding protein 1b (IGFBP1B), myosin, light chain 1 (MYL1), and myoglobin (MB). Through Gene Ontology (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis, we identified a total of 288 significantly enriched GO entries and 68 significantly enriched KEGG pathways related to growth, such as skeletal muscle tissue development, insulin-like growth factor binding, and the mitotic cell cycle. These key genes and signaling pathways may play a key role in regulating the growth of M. armatus. Digging into the regulatory mechanisms of these key genes will provide a theoretical basis for further exploration of the molecular mechanisms related to the growth and development of M. armatus, and help to breed new varieties of M. armatus with rapid growth.

Introduction: Cognitive impairment is a common symptom of Parkinson's disease (PD) associated with reduced quality of life and a more severe disease state. Previous research has shown an association between visuospatial dysfunction and worse disease course; however, it is not clear whether this is separable from executive dysfunction and/or dementia. This study sought to determine whether distinct cognitive factors could be measured in a large PD cohort, and if those factors were differentially associated with other PD-related features, specifically to provide insight into visuospatial dysfunction. Methods: Non-demented participants with PD from the Pacific Udall Center were enrolled (n = 197). Co-participants (n = 104) completed questionnaires when available. Principal components factor analysis (PCFA) was utilized to group the neuropsychological test scores into independent factors by considering those with big factor loading (≥.40). Linear and logistic regression analyses were performed to examine the relationship between the cognitive factors identified in the PCFA and other clinical features of PD. A gas-phase uranyl peroxide dimer supported by three 12-crown-4 ether (12C4) ligands, [(UO2)2(O2)(12C4)3)]2+ (A), was prepared by electrospray ionization. Density functional theory (DFT) indicates a structure with two terminal 12C4 and the third 12C4 bridging the uranium centers. Collision induced dissociation (CID) of A resulted in elimination of the bridging 12C4 to yield a uranyl peroxide dimer with two terminal donor ligands, [(12C4)(UO2)(O2)(UO2)(12C4)]2+ (B). Remarkably, CID of B resulted in elimination of the bridging peroxide concomitant with reduction of U(VI) to U(V) in C, [(12C4)(UO2)(UO2)(12C4)]2+. DFT studies indicate that in C there is direct interaction between the two UO2+ species, which can thus be considered as a so-called cation-cation interaction (CCI). This formal CCI, induced by tetradentate 12C4 ligands, corresponds to destruction of the linear uranyl moieties and creation of bridging U-O-U oxo-bonds. On the basis of the structural rearrangement to achieve the structurally extreme CCI interaction, it is predicted also to be accessible for PaO2+ but is less feasible for transuranic actinyls.

Plasmon-mediated chemical reactions (PMCRs) constitute a vibrant research field, advancing such goals as using sunlight to convert abundant precursors such as CO2 and water to useful fuels and chemicals. A key question in this burgeoning field which has not, as yet, been fully resolved, relates to the precise mechanism through which the energy absorbed through plasmonic excitation, ultimately drives such reactions. Among the multiple processes proposed, two have risen to the forefront: plasmon-increased temperature and generation of energetic charge carriers. However, it is still a great challenge to confidently separate these two effects and quantify their relative contribution to chemical reactions. Here, we describe a strategy based on the construction of a plasmonic electrode coupled with photoelectrochemistry, to quantitatively disentangle increased temperature from energetic charge carriers effects. A clear separation of the two effects facilitates the rational design of plasmonic nanostructures for efficient photochemical applications and solar energy utilization.

ObjectiveTo determine the feasibility, safety and tolerability of lumbar punctures (LPs) in research participants with early Parkinson disease (PD), subjects without evidence of dopaminergic deficiency (SWEDDs) and healthy volunteers (HC).BackgroundCerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis is becoming an essential part of the biomarkers discovery effort in PD with still limited data on safety and feasibility of serial LPs in PD participants.Design/methodsParkinson's Progression Marker Initiative (PPMI) is a longitudinal observation study designed to identify PD progression biomarkers. All PPMI participants undergo LP at baseline, 6, 12 months and yearly thereafter. CSF collection is performed by a trained investigator using predominantly atraumatic needles. Adverse events (AEs) are monitored by phone one week after LP completion. We analyzed safety data from baseline LPs.ResultsPPMI enrolled 683 participants (423 PD/196 HC/64 SWEDDs) from 23 study sites. CSF was collected at baseline in 97.5% of participants, of whom 5.4% underwent collection under fluoroscopy. 23% participants reported any related AEs, 68% of all AE were mild while 5.6% were severe. The most common AEs were headaches (13%) and low back pain (6.5%) and both occurred more commonly in HC and SWEDDs compared to PD participants. Factors associated with higher incidence of AEs across the cohorts included female gender, younger age and use of traumatic needles with larger diameter. AEs largely did not impact compliance with the future LPs.ConclusionsLPs are safe and feasible in PD research participants. Specific LP techniques (needle type and gauge) may reduce the overall incidence of AEs.

Introduction:Cognitive impairment is a common complication of Parkinson's disease (PD) and identifying risk factors for progression to Parkinson's disease dementia (PDD) is important. However, little research has been done comparing the utility of commonly used cognitive screening tests in predicting cognitive progression in PD. Methods:We retrospectively reviewed data from patients with PD enrolled in the Pacific Udall Center who had baseline and longitudinal neuropsychological and global cognitive screening tests. The diagnostic accuracies of 3 common screening tests were compared: Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), Mattis Dementia Rating Scale (DRS-2), and Mini Mental Status Examination (MMSE). Cognitive diagnoses of PD with mild cognitive impairment (PD-MCI) and PDD were based on full neuropsychological testing and established Movement Disorder Society criteria. Logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to examine predictors of cognitive decline. Results:Four hundred seventy patients for whom scores on all 3 screening tests were available from the same assessment were included in a cross-sectional analysis. The MoCA demonstrated the best overall diagnostic accuracy for PD-MCI (AUC= 0.79, sensitivity= 76.4%) and for PDD (AUC= 0.89, sensitivity= 81.0%) compared to the DRS-2 and MMSE. A longitudinal analysis was performed on the subset of patients (316/470; 67.2%) who were nondemented at baseline and had undergone two or more assessments. Severe cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is a rare type of stroke with poor prognosis and high mortality. The pathophysiological mechanism of severe CVT at present only focus on the onslaught of CVT as a venous return disorder and fails to elucidate the process of occurrence and development of the disease. Recently, studies on the relationship between severe CVT and inflammation have found that inflammation is involved in the pathophysiology of severe CVT, and a variety of inflammatory markers are correlated with its poor prognosis, suggesting that targeted inflammation therapy for severe CVT is a very promising treatment. This paper reviews the basic and clinical research on the relationship between inflammation and severe CVT to understand the role of inflammation in the pathophysiology of severe CVT and provide ideas for the development of new treatment strategies for severe CVT.

Objective This paper reports a case of malignant intracranial hypertension, reviews his diagnosis and treatment, and analyzes his etiology, in order to improve the clinicians' cognition of this disease. Methods and Results The patient was a 19⁃year⁃old male with subacute onset and chronic course of disease, presenting with amaurosis, headache, neck and shoulder pain, blurred vision and tinnitus disease. Imaging findings showed cerebral venous sinus stenosis (VSS) with obvious pressure difference at both ends of stenosis. However, venous sinus stenting was ineffective. After optic nerve sheath decompression, the symptoms of headache and blurred vision were not significantly improved. Finally, the patient was diagnosed as glioblastoma (WHO Ⅳ), and died 8 months after removal of the tumor foci. Conclusions Patients with the pressure difference at both ends of malignant intracranial hypertension with VSS should not take stenting. Clarifying the cause and type of stenosis is very important for correct diagnosis and guide treatment.

Poly(para‐xylylene) (PPX) is a robust and biocompatible coating material that is widely used in various applications, including electronics, aerospace and defense materials, automotive materials, and biomaterials. In this progress report, recent developments in PPX technology ranging from the advancement of physical chemistry properties and structural properties for device integration to the transformation of 3D monolith materials of PPX with controls in outer and inner structures at the micro‐ and nanometer scales are highlighted. Based on emerging chemistry studies on [2.2]paracyclophanes, which are primarily used precursors to synthesize PPX via vapor deposition polymerization, functionalization, and the creation of a wide variety of functional PPX derivatives are demonstrated without resistance. Widely used as an interface coating material, PPX is processed to form integrated structural materials and has already been found to be useful in the market as part of electronic and medical implant products. Using a newly innovated transformation to fabricate PPX through templates (metal‐organic frameworks, liquid crystal, ice crystal), 3D monoliths, nanoscale particles, hierarchical and gradient interior structures, and dynamically transformable shapes at the nanoscale are demonstrated. Background: Adjuvant chemotherapy, particularly cisplatin, is recommended for non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) patients at high risk of recurrence. EF-hand domain-containing protein D2 (EFHD2) has been recently shown to increase cisplatin resistance and is significantly associated with recurrence in early-stage NSCLC patients. Natural products, commonly used as phytonutrients, are also recognized for their potential as pharmaceutical anticancer agents. Result: In this study, a range of Chinese herbs known for their antitumor or chemotherapy-enhancing properties were evaluated for their ability to inhibit EFHD2 expression in NSCLC cells. Among the herbs tested, Stephania tetrandra (S. tetrandra) exhibited the highest efficacy in inhibiting EFHD2 and sensitizing cells to cisplatin. Through LC-MS identification and functional assays, coclaurine was identified as a key molecule in S. tetrandra responsible for EFHD2 inhibition. Coclaurine not only downregulated EFHD2-related NOX4-ABCC1 signaling and enhanced cisplatin sensitivity, but also suppressed the stemness and metastatic properties of NSCLC cells. Mechanistically, coclaurine disrupted the interaction between the transcription factor FOXG1 and the EFHD2 promoter, leading to a reduction in EFHD2 transcription. Silencing FOXG1 further inhibited EFHD2 expression and sensitized NSCLC cells to cisplatin. Conclusions: S. tetrandra and its active compound coclaurine may serve as effective adjuvant therapies to improve cisplatin efficacy in the treatment of NSCLC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Parental education may influence children's development both additively and multiplicatively. While parental educational attainment enriches financial and cultural investments in children's development, parental educational homogamy is associated with consistency and agreement in parenting practices that may benefit the children. In this paper, using the 2014 China Education Panel Survey, we examine relationships between parental education, regarding both parental educational attainment and educational assortative mating, and children's subjective wellbeing, measured by depressive symptoms and self-rated confidence in the future. We also explore the mediating mechanisms linking parental education and children's subjective wellbeing. Results show that holding average parental years of schooling constant, both hypergamy and hypogamy predict lower levels of confidence and higher levels of depression than does parental homogamy. Children born to hypergamous parents where the mother has less than high school education are most vulnerable of all children. The negative effects of parental hypogamy are likely channelled through parent-child and interparental dynamics, as children from hypogamous families are more likely to experience issues in parent-child relationships, paternal drinking problems, and parental fights. Aims/Background The prevalence of pressure injuries (PIs) is a widely used clinical indicator of patient safety and quality of care. Nurses' understanding of pressure injury (PI) can significantly impact the treatment outcomes for patients. This study, based on latent profile analysis (LPA), reveals the characteristics associated with PI knowledge levels among clinical nurses in district and county tertiary medical institutions. We aim to help nursing managers formulate training plans accurately so that clinical nurses can provide high-level skin care services for patients. Method In June 2023, 1482 nurse staff from 4 tertiary general hospitals at the district and county level in Chengdu were chosen as research subjects using the convenience sampling method. Responses to the general information questionnaire, the Chinese Version of Pressure Ulcer Knowledge Assessment Tool (C-PUKAT), and the Chinese Version of Attitude towards Pressure ulcer Prevention (C-APuP) were used to compare the population's characteristics based on LPA. Results Three latent profiles of nurses' PI knowledge were identified: weak foundation type (46.3%), strengthening foundation type (42.7%), and special improvement type (11.0%). Subjects' departments, administrative positions, highest degrees and PI prevention attitude scores, as well as whether they have participated in the training, all differed significantly between latent profile groups (p < 0.05). Conclusion The PI knowledge level of nursing staff at the district and county tertiary general hospitals requires urgent improvement. Nursing managers should prioritize the management level and quality of PI training among clinical nursing staff. Precise training programs can be developed based on different categories of nursing staff to enhance their PI knowledge, thereby effectively improving the quality of healthcare for inpatients.
