An experiment was performed to examine the potentiality of a synthetic hormone analogue in the artificial propagation i.e., the embryonic and larval development of stinging catfish (Heteropneustes fossilis). Broodfish were injected with S-GnRHa at the concentrations of 1, 2.5, and 5 ml.kg-1 of body weight (BW) in females and at 0.5, 1.125 and 2.5 ml.kg-1 BW in males treatment groups T1, T2 and T3, respectively, with three replicates in each group. The fishes were induced to spawn, and ovulation occurred at about 10-11 hours after the hormone injection. Results showed highest fertilization (83.11±1.36) and hatching rates (89.56±1.04) in T2, whereas ovulation rate was 100% in all treatment groups. First cleavage was observed at 30 minutes of postfertilization. Embryonic developmental period sequentially for 2-cell, 4-cell, 8-cell, 16-cell, 32-cell, 64-cell, Morula (Improve), Blastula, Gastrula, somatic formation, yolk-plug, twisting movement and pre-hatching occurred at 00:30, 00:45, 01:10, 01:30, 02:00, 02:30, 03:00, 04:00, 06:40, 09:00-18:00, 19:00, 20:00-21:00 and 22:00 hours, respectively. Hatching occurred after 23:00 hours of fertilization. Current results suggest the feasibility of S-GnRHa as an effective synthetic hormone in the artificial propagation of H. fossilis. The primary role of plants and its products in the treatment of illness is demonstrated by their employment in all the major health care systems of medicine irrespective of the original philosophical evidence. The particular plant species is used in Oman for the treatment of several diseases including eye drops to treat cataracts. The present study is to isolate the essential oil from the selected plant Cleome austroarabica (C. austroarabica) which is grown in Oman and characterize the biomarkers by using Gas chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The essential oil was isolated by hydro-distillation method which was collected from Birkat Al Mouz and Tanuf. The percentage of major biomarkers was analyzed by GC-MS and they are as follows: diterpenes 53.1%, sesquiterpenes 41.8% and monoterpenes 5.1%, respectively. Among them, the major biomarkers were thunbergol (51.1%), elemol (9.4%), g-eudesmol (6.1%), b-eudesmol (6.1%), a-eudesmol (4.3%), 6-epishyobunol (2.7%), 3-(z) cembrene (2.0%), b-bisabolene (1.8%), d-cadinene (þ)- (1.8%), ledol (1.4%), eremophilene (1.2%), sabinen (1.2%), caryophellene (1.0%) and guaiol (1.0%). The antibacterial potential of the plant essential oil (125e1000 mg/ml) was examined against six bacterial strains including Gram (þand e) by using disc diffusion method. All the tested Gram (þand e) bacterial strains displayed slight to moderate antibacterial potential (6 e7 mm) against all concentrations of essential oil. The cytotoxic potential of the plant essential oil at different concentrations does not display any mortality against the brine shrimp larvae. In conclusion, based on the biomarkers and antibacterial potential of the isolated essential oil from the species it could be used as medicine to treat infectious diseases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Chlorpyrifos 20 EC (emulsifying concentration) is one of the extensively used agro-pesticide in Bangladesh, most of which are residual in nearby natural water reservoirs. The freshwater mussel, Lamellidens marginalis have been exposed to Chlorpyrifos 20 EC at varying concentrations of T c 0 mgL-1, T 1 2.53 mgL-1, T 2 5.07 mgL-1 and T 3 10.15 mgL-1 for 35 days to investigate its toxic effects on growth biometrics, hemocyte counts and histopathology of gill, muscle, and ovary. The 96-hour Chlorpyrifos 20 EC LC 50 for L. marginalis has been computed as 25.37 mgL-1 from PROBIT analysis. Major water regulating parameters were recorded and analyzed for each treatment group. The specific growth rate (%) was reported statistically highest in T C (0.104 ± 0.412) and lowest in T 3 (-0.52 ± 0.38). Similarly, the condition index (CI) and Fulton's condition factor were decent at T C and downed at T 3 (P < 0.05). A high mortality rate occurred in T 3 and the lowest mortality in T C. The value of total hemocytes count were also reported to be highest for T C and gradually decreased as the dosage increased (P < 0.05). The histopathology of gill, muscle, and ovary also revealed moderate to severe pathological signs in treatment groups in comparison to control. The present study is to determine the total flavonoids and antimicrobial capacity of different fractions crude extracts of leaves ofDodonaea viscosa(D. viscosa) collected from Al Jabal Al Akhdar, Sultanate of Oman.The collected samples were a shade dried and extracted with methanol. The prepared methanol crude extract was suspended with water and fractionated with hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and butanol solvents to give hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and butanol crude extracts respectively. The prepared crude extracts were used for the determination of total flavonoids and antimicrobial capacity by well reported aluminum chloride (AlCl3) and disc diffusion methods. The highest total flavonoids content in the leaves crude extracts was in water crude extract and the lowest was in the hexane crude extract and the order was water> chloroform>methanol>ethyl acetate>butanol>hexane crude extracts. The antimicrobial capacity for the crude extracts of leaves ofD. viscosaat different concentrations against one gram positiveStaphylococcus aureus(S.aureus)and three grams negativeEscherichia coli(E. coli),Homophiles (H. influenza)andproteus sspculture bacterial strains showed moderate activity of a range of 0-15 mm. This paper analyzes the performance of a general insurance company named karnaphuli insurance company of Bangladesh. This study identifies the performance of karnaphuli insurance company along with the relationship among different performance indicators. Bankruptcy risk through SPRINGATEz score, business and financial risk are also analyzed. This analysis concludes that this insurance company is closing towards bankruptcy and business risk is gradually increasing as company's net income, policy sales growth, claim ratio are in decreasing trend. This study analyses nine ofHayao Miyazaki's animated films from a semiotic approach. This research focuses on his female protago-nists, shojo (Japanese for young girl), and flying images. Miyazaki's flying images break humans' limitation by freeing themselves from gravity. The deployment of shojo protagonists is one of the most subversive achievements because of its breaking through Japanese gender code. When these young girls are flying, it reaches the climax of Miyazaki s world. Miyazaki prefers a traditional/spiritual setting to modern/material Japanese society. In Miyazaki's universe, positive connotations (e.g., anti-war philosophy, eco-awareness) have been learned, wonderful flying images have recurred, and the empowerment of shojo identity has been promised. Chlorpyrifos is a widely applied insecticide that permeates on most waterways and affects aquatic organisms. The growth performances, hematological and histological impacts on Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus following a 60 day of exposure to varying concentrations of chlorpyrifos 20 EC (T 1 08 µgL−1, T 2 16 µgL−1, and T 3 32 µgL−1) were compared to a control T c 0 µgL−1. The 96-hour LC50 of chlorpyrifos 20 EC was calculated as 46.80 μgL−1. The water quality parameters were recorded regularly. The value of dissolved O 2 and NH 3 stayed rather steady, although temperature varied considerably. It was revealed that as chlorpyrifos levels go up, the percentage of weight gain (WG %), specific growth rates (SGR), and survival rate decreases. The control group T c had the highest percentages of SGR weight (1.16 ± 0.58) and the T 3 group had the lowest percentages of SGR weight (0.25 ± 0.77). The hematological assessment showed significant differences of hemoglobin concentration, white blood cell counts and red blood cell numbers between chlorpyrifos treatment and control group (P < 0.05). Histological alterations in the liver, gills, and muscle tissues reported to be worse for T 3 as compared to others. There were no statistical differences in GSI, HSI values between control and treatment groups. The chlorpyrifos 20 EC was shown to be highly toxic to O. niloticus at sub-lethal dosages.
