165. K-factor dependent multipath characterization for BAN-OTA Testing using a fading emulator.

Abstract

This paper presents a new methodology for BAN-OTA Testing using a developed fading emulator with a dynamic phantom. The key to the success of the proposed apparatus is to provide the fading emulator with a proper K-factor that can represent an actual propagation environment under consideration. Firstly, a configuration of the developed fading emulator used for BAN-OTA Testing is shown. Based on the configuration, an analytical investigation of the channel modeling considering K-factor dependent multipath characterization is presented. For getting the knowledge of K-factor, an experiment has been carried out by moving the phantom with different locations of dipole antennas. Finally, a method of calibration by setting the attenuators in fading emulator is also introduced and used in a preliminary experiment for confirming the validity of the proposed channel model. The experimental results show that a variety of K-factors can be controlled in a wide range, which indicates that a realistic BAN radio wave propagation environment can be realized in BAN-OTA Testing using the developed fading emulator. 184. The impact of a matching circuit of a handset MIMO antenna on the wideband channel capacity.

Abstract

In the plan for future cellular systems, such as the LTE-advanced system, they are to be allocated a very wide frequency band. Hence, the wideband characteristics must be considered when a handset MIMO antenna is designed for such systems. In the literature [1], the authors have shown that there is a significant impact of a matching circuit on the channel capacity of a MIMO antenna over a wide frequency band. In [1], as a basic study, a MIMO antenna comprised of two half-wavelength dipole antennas arranged in a parallel orientation is used for the analysis. However, the mechanism or principle responsible for the enhancement of channel capacity was not fully examined. This paper studies the impact of a matching circuit of a handset MIMO antenna mounted on a commercial-handset based small metal housing on the wideband channel capacity. 185. Automatic impedance matching of a tablet type 4-branch MRC array close to the human hands.

Abstract

Digital broadcasting terrestrial services have been spread all over the world. A portable TV is held by the human hands when a user watches terrestrial digital broadcasting while walking. Hence, we must consider the electromagnetic interaction between the antenna and the human hand. The factors causing the performance degradation of a 4-branch MRC array have been studied. The results show that impedance mismatch loss emerging at the branch elements is the major factor among various loss factors caused by the human hands [1]. To overcome this difficulty, we proposed a method of the mitigation of impedance mismatch using a varactor diode, and the effectiveness of the method was confirmed by experiments [2]. Abstract

In body area network (BAN) systems, BAN radio devices, such as sensors or access points used for data collection and sending, may be mounted on the waist. The shadowing effects caused by the movement of the arms result in a further severe gain reduction [1]. It is anticipated that the moving characteristics of the arms have a number of differences unique to individual humans, such as asymmetrical distribution. However, the dynamic characteristics, such as swing style and speed, and walking pace and cycle, were not fully examined in previous studies.
