Background and PurposeBenzimidazoles have attracted much attention over the last few decades due to their broad-spectrum pharmacological properties. Increasing evidence is showing the potential use of benzimidazoles as anti-angiogenic agents, although the mechanisms that impact angiogenesis remain to be fully defined. In this study, we aim to investigate the anti-angiogenic mechanisms of MFB, a novel 2-aminobenzimidazole derivative, to develop a novel angiogenesis inhibitor.Experimental ApproachMTT, BrdU, migration and invasion assays, and immunoblotting were employed to examine MFB’s effects on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-induced endothelial cell proliferation, migration, invasion, as well as signaling molecules activation. The anti-angiogenic effects of MFB were analyzed by tube formation, aorta ring sprouting, and matrigel plug assays. We also used a mouse model of lung metastasis to determine the MFB’s anti-metastatic effects.Key ResultsMFB suppressed cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and endothelial tube formation of VEGF-A-stimulated human umbilical vascular endothelial cells (HUVECs) or VEGF-C-stimulated lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs). MFB suppressed VEGF-A and VEGF-C signaling in HUVECs or LECs. In addition, MFB reduced VEGF-A- or tumor cells-induced neovascularization in vivo. MFB also diminished B16F10 melanoma lung metastasis. The molecular docking results further showed that MFB may bind to VEGFR-2 rather than VEGF-A with high affinity.Conclusions and ImplicationsThese observations indicated that MFB may target VEGF/VEGFR signaling to suppress angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis. It also supports the role of MFB as a potential lead in developing novel agents for the treatment of angiogenesis- or lymphangiogenesis-associated diseases and cancer.

The advancement of anode materials for achieving high energy storage is a crucial topic for high-performance Li-ion batteries (LIBs). Here, first-principles calculations were used to conduct a thorough and systematic investigation into lithium storage properties of MXenes with new S functional groups as LIB anode materials. Density of states, diffusion energy barriers, open circuit voltages and storage capacities were calculated to comprehensively evaluate the lithium storage properties of S-functionalized MXenes. Based on the computational results, Ti2CS2 and V2CS2 were selected as excellent candidates from ten M2CS2 MXenes. The diffusion energy barriers of M2CS2 within the range of 0.26–0.32 eV are lower than those of M2CO2 and M2CF2, indicating that M2CS2 anodes exhibit faster charge/discharge rates. By examining the stable crystal structures and comparing atomic positions before and after Li adsorptions, structural phase transitions during Li-ion adsorptions could happen for nearly all M2CS2 MXenes. The phase transitions predicted were directly observed using ab initio molecular dynamic simulations. The cycle stability, storage capacity and other lithium storage properties were enhanced by the reversible structural phase transition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study employed computational fluid dynamics-discrete phase model (CFD-DPM) to investigate the transport characteristics of transient high-temperature dust in a vertical tee duct. Utilizing the large eddy simulation (LES) model, the research elucidated the flow characteristics, temperature field distribution, and particle deposition patterns within the tee duct. Specifically, it was observed that the vortex generated by the tee duct dissipated when x/D exceeds 20. Furthermore, high-temperature fluid exhibited an upward migration within the pipe by buoyancy, concurrently intensifying flow velocity fluctuations. Particle diffusion was initially driven by particle inertia and later became dominated by the combined effects of vortex and buoyancy. The deposition of particles displayed a trend of a sharp increase and decrease, then a gradual increase and decrease along the duct. The particle deposition can be divided into three stages, each governed by varying influencing factors on particle movement: (a) particle inertia within the range 0 < x/D < 5; (b) vortex carry spanning 5 < x/D < 20; and (c) turbulent pulsations beyond 20 < x/D. The total deposition mass was decreased by 50% by the vortex. This article provides a comprehensive description of the diffusion and deposition of transient high-temperature dust in a tee duct. The precise tie-points (TPs) on synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images are a critical cornerstone in the global digital elevation model (DEM) and digital ortho map (DOM) production process. While there are abundant studies on SAR TPs matching, improvement opportunities persist in large areas. The correspondences have pixel-level errors during geocoding, which result in misalignment between global products. Consequently, this paper proposed a robust method for SAR images TPs matching, which consists of three key steps: (1) interest point extraction based on the dynamic Harris area entropy (DHAE) grid; (2) adaptive determination of template size; (3) normalized cross correlation (NCC) template matching. DHAE is a regional texture information grid based on the SAR-Harris map, and it is achieved through dynamic block division. Generating the DHAE grid over SAR images enables the extraction of interest points that have regional feature representation and distribution uniformity. A variable-size matching template is adaptively determined based on DHAE to enhance template quality while maintaining computational efficiency. Subsequently, the NCC algorithm is employed to find subpixel-precise correspondences. The proposed method is applied on TPs matching in 57 Terra-SAR images, which cover a large geographical area. Furthermore, the overlapping area is partitioned into five segments according to different coverage types. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms other template matching methods. For all coverage types, the proposed method exhibits high-precision sub-pixel results that reach up to 38.64% in terms of the relative positioning error (RPE), particularly in texture-weak and large areas.
