BackgroundPresently, a comprehensive analysis of integrin subunit genes (ITGs) in bladder cancer (BLCA) is absent. This study endeavored to thoroughly analyze the utility of ITGs in BLCA through computer algorithm-based bioinformatics.MethodsBLCA-related materials were sourced from reputable databases, The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). R software-based bioinformatics analyses included limma-differential expression analysis, survival-Cox analysis, glmnet-Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), clusterProfiler-functional annotation, and gsva-estimate-immune landscape analysis. The expression difference of key genes was verified by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR).ResultsAmong the 11 ITGs that were abnormally expressed in BLCA, ITGA7, ITGA5, and ITGB6 were categorized as the optimal variables for structuring the risk model. The high-risk subcategories were typified by brief survival, abysmal prognosis, prominent immune and stromal markers, and depressed tumor purity. The risk model was also an isolated indicator of the impact of clinical outcomes in BLCA patients. Moreover, the risk model, specifically the high-risk subcategory with inferior prognosis, became heavily interlinked with the immune-inflammatory response and smooth muscle contraction and relaxation.ConclusionThis study determined three ITGs with prognostic values (ITGA7, ITGA5, and ITGB6), composed a novel (ITG-associated) prognostic gene signature, and preliminarily probed the latent molecular mechanisms of the model.

Abstract Flavonoids from common buckwheat hulls (BHFs) show significant antioxidant and antidiabetic potential. However, their hepatoprotective property is yet to be defined. This study aims to examine the hepatoprotective effect of BHFs in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) rats and chronic high glucose‐damaged HepG2 cells. Results showed that BHF treatment significantly relieves the state of insulin resistance, thereby reducing blood glucose and improving oxidative stress in T2DM rats. It is worth mentioning that BHF treatment improved diabetes‐induced liver damage disorders, manifested as the clearance of liver fat and the decline of serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activities. In vitro, HepG2 cells pretreated with BHFs maintained higher superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH‐px), and catalase (CAT) activities than the unprotected group. In parallel, compared with the unprotected group, BHFs significantly reduced the leakage of ALT and AST in pre‐protected group dose‐dependently. These results indicated that BHFs had considerable antioxidant and hepatoprotective potential and could be promising to be used as nutraceuticals and dietary supplements to prevent and/or protect against liver disorders.

Abstract Background Diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI), especially chronic PJI, is very confusing and challenging. The value of C-reactive protein (CRP) in infectious diseases has been recognized, but the diagnostic value of CRP in chronic PJI is unknown. Our aim was to investigate the diagnostic value of synovial CRP in chronic PJI and to explore the role of combined serum and synovial CRP in distinguishing chronic PJI from aseptic failure after knee and hip arthroplasties. Methods We prospectively enrolled patients scheduled to have a revision surgery for chronic PJI or aseptic loosening from January 2019 to December 2020, in which synovial CRP was additionally measured along with routine preoperative diagnostic serum ((ESR, CRP) and synovial (PMN%) biomarkers. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and area under the curve (AUC) were analyzed for each biomarker to determine diagnostic efficacy. Results There were no statistically significant differences between the infection (n = 39) and aseptic (n = 58) groups, including 61 hips and 36 knees. The synovial CRP levels were significantly higher in the infection group than in the aseptic group (median: 9.93 mg/l vs 3.58 mg/l; p 10.2 mg/l OR SF CRP > 7.26 mg/l) had a negative predictive value (NPV) of 96.67%, and a sensitivity of 97.44%. The combined model II (Serum CRP > 10.2 mg/l AND Synovial CRP > 7.26 mg/l) led to a specificity of 1, and a positive predictive value (PPV) of 1. Conclusions The present study demonstrated that the combination of serum and synovial CRP can be used as an adjunct to the diagnosis of chronic PJI.

Abstract Background Structural variants (SVs) significantly drive genome diversity and environmental adaptation for diverse species. Unlike the prevalent small SVs (< kilobase-scale) in higher eukaryotes, large-size SVs rarely exist in the genome, but they function as one of the key evolutionary forces for speciation and adaptation. Results In this study, we discover and characterize several megabase-scale presence-absence variations (PAVs) in the maize genome. Surprisingly, we identify a 3.2 Mb PAV fragment that shows high integrity and is present as complete presence or absence in the natural diversity panel. This PAV is embedded within the nucleolus organizer region (NOR), where the suppressed recombination is found to maintain the PAV against the evolutionary variation. Interestingly, by analyzing the sequence of this PAV, we not only reveal the domestication trace from teosinte to modern maize, but also the footprints of its origin from Tripsacum, shedding light on a previously unknown contribution from Tripsacum to the speciation of Zea species. The functional consequence of the Tripsacum segment migration is also investigated, and environmental fitness conferred by the PAV may explain the whole segment as a selection target during maize domestication and improvement. Conclusions These findings provide a novel perspective that Tripsacum contributes to Zea speciation, and also instantiate a strategy for evolutionary and functional analysis of the “fossil” structure variations during genome evolution and speciation.

Abstract In recent years, finite element analysis is increasingly adopted to simulate the mechanism of metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) resistive gas sensors. In this article, the chemical reaction engineering module in the COMSOL Multiphysics tool is used to describe the dynamic equilibrium process of oxygen ions in the sensor. The boundary conditions of temperature transfer, conductivity model, and mass transfer are applied to simulate the convection, diffusion, and penetration processes. The response of the sensor at different temperatures (445 K–521 K) and different target gas concentrations (1–500 ppm) is simulated. In this paper, the dynamic model of oxygen ions is used creatively as a bridge between gas concentration and sensor response instead of the traditional direct parameter fitting method. The simulated result of the surface oxygen ion control and permeability control model of the MOS gas sensor shows a good agreement with the real sensor. For explaining the principle of metal oxide semiconductor gas sensors simulations has been performed on COMSOL Multiphysics software. The proposed method in this paper is based on the underlying transfer logic of the sensor signal, it is expected to predict the sensor signal and assist the sensor design.

Abstract Background CRISPR/Cas9 is a rapidly developing genome editing technology in various biological systems due to its efficiency, portability, simplicity and versatility. This editing technology has been successfully applied in in several important plants of Solanaceae such as tomato, tobacco, potato, petunia and groundcherry. Wolfberry ranked the sixth among solanaceous crops of outstanding importance in China following potato, tomato, eggplant, pepper and tobacco. To date, there has been no report on CRISPR/Cas9 technology to improve Lycium ruthenicum due to the unknown genome sequencing and the lack of efficient regeneration and genetic transformation systems. Results In this study, we have established an efficientregeneration and genetic transformation system of Lycium ruthenicum. We have used this system to validate target sites for fw2.2, a major fruit weight quantitative trait locus first identified from tomato and accounted for 30% of the variation in fruit size. In our experiments, the editing efficiency was very high, with 95.45% of the transgenic lines containing mutations in the fw2.2 target site. We obtained transgenic wolfberry plants containing four homozygous mutations and nine biallelic mutations in the fw2.2 gene. Conclusions These results suggest that CRISPR-based gene editing is effective for the improvement of black wolfberry traits, and we expect this approach to be routinely applied to this important economic fruit.

The authors demonstrate a multiplexed quantum interface that stores three long-lived spin-wave qubits. A significant improvement in the rate of generating spin-photon entanglement has been achieved, opening a promising route toward large-scale, long-haul quantum networks.

Abstract Background The therapeutic potential of exosomes derived from stem cells has attracted increasing interest recently, because they can exert similar paracrine functions of stem cells and overcome the limitations of stem cells transplantation. Exosomes derived from bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSC-Exos) have been confirmed to promote osteogenesis and angiogenesis. The magnetic nanoparticles (eg. Fe3O4, γ-Fe2O3) combined with a static magnetic field (SMF) has been commonly used to increase wound healing and bone regeneration. Hence, this study aims to evaluate whether exosomes derived from BMSCs preconditioned with a low dose of Fe3O4 nanoparticles with or without the SMF, exert superior pro-osteogenic and pro-angiogenic activities in bone regeneration and the underlying mechanisms involved. Methods Two novel types of exosomes derived from preconditioned BMSCs that fabricated by regulating the contents with the stimulation of magnetic nanoparticles and/or a SMF. Then, the new exosomes were isolated by ultracentrifugation and characterized. Afterwards, we conducted in vitro experiments in which we measured osteogenic differentiation, cell proliferation, cell migration, and tube formation, then established an in vivo critical-sized calvarial defect rat model. The miRNA expression profiles were compared among the exosomes to detect the potential mechanism of improving osteogenesis and angiogenesis. At last, the function of exosomal miRNA during bone regeneration was confirmed by utilizing a series of gain- and loss-of-function experiments in vitro. Results 50 µg/mL Fe3O4 nanoparticles and a 100 mT SMF were chosen as the optimum magnetic conditions to fabricate two new exosomes, named BMSC-Fe3O4-Exos and BMSC-Fe3O4-SMF-Exos. They were both confirmed to enhance osteogenesis and angiogenesis in vitro and in vivo compared with BMSC-Exos, and BMSC-Fe3O4-SMF-Exos had the most marked effect. The promotion effect was found to be related to the highly riched miR-1260a in BMSC-Fe3O4-SMF-Exos. Furthermore, miR-1260a was verified to enhance osteogenesis and angiogenesis through inhibition of HDAC7 and COL4A2, respectively. Conclusion These results suggest that low doses of Fe3O4 nanoparticles combined with a SMF trigger exosomes to exert enhanced osteogenesis and angiogenesis and that targeting of HDAC7 and COL4A2 by exosomal miR-1260a plays a crucial role in this process. This work could provide a new protocol to promote bone regeneration for tissue engineering in the future. Graphical abstract

To improve the dynamic quality and control performance of the permanent magnet synchronous motor speed control system, a novel sliding mode control method with improved reaching law for PMSM was proposed, which has a shorter reaching time and small system chattering. An extended state observer (ESO) based on the hyperbolic tangent function for the sliding mode controller is designed to realize the real-time tracking of the mechanical angular velocity and load disturbance of the motor, which can weaken the influence of the internal parameter perturbation and external load disturbance. The performance of the novel sliding mode controller for PMSM was simulated based on MATLAB/Simulink. An experimental platform based on dSPACE is built. The simulation and experimental results show that this novel PMSM controller can effectively suppress the system chattering and improve the dynamic performance and robustness of the system.

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a common chronic disease in youths, presenting with spinal deformity. Previous studies reported that the family functioning of family members would be affected after a child is diagnosed with a chronic health condition. However, no previous study focused on the relationship between AIS and family function. This study is a cross-sectional study that enrolled 54 AIS families and 92 ordinary families and evaluated their family function in 7 domains using the McMaster family assessment device (FAD). The results showed that the AIS family got a lower score than a healthy family in all 7 subscales except for the problem-solving subscale. There was no significant difference between the patients with AIS (1.90 ± 0.42∼2.23 ± 0.32) and their parents (1.92 ± 0.35∼2.21 ± 0.29) in all seven subscales (p ≥ 0.05). The scores of the parents were moderately/strongly correlated with those of the patients with AIS in all seven subscales (γ = 0.456∼0.696, p < 0.05). Approximately, 20.4–87% of the families experienced unhealthy family functioning, with affective involvement (57.4%), and behavior control (87%) representing the unhealthiest subscales with the mean scores above the cutoff. It can be concluded that the AIS family performed better than a healthy family in family functions.

Abstract The continual growth of tumor cells requires considerable nutrient consumption. Methotrexate (MTX) is used to treat certain types of cancer by blocking the DNA and RNA productions through interfering one‐carbon metabolism and de novo purine and pyrimidine synthesis. However, treatment of MTX may cause many serious adverse effects, which hamper its clinical application. Herein, the authors synthesize ferrous ions, histidine, and MTX assembled nanoparticles (FHM) to deliver MTX at tumor site and enhance the sensitivity of tumor cells to MTX with histidine catabolism. Furthermore, fasting‐mimicking diet (FMD) is applied to intervene in the one‐carbon metabolism and enhance the cytotoxicity of MTX. Meanwhile, FMD treatment can significantly augment the cellular uptake and tumor accumulation of FHM nanoparticles. Due to the triple inhibitions of the one‐carbon metabolism, the proliferation of tumor cells is strongly disturbed, as which is highly replying on DNA and RNA production. Taken together, a 95% lower dose of MTX adopted in combined therapy significantly inhibits the growth of two types of murine tumors without evident systemic toxicity. This strategy may provide a promising nucleotide metabolism‐based nanomedicine for cancer therapy.

Abstract Most existing stretchable batteries can generally only be stretched uniaxially and suffer from poor mechanical and electrochemical robustness to withstand extreme mechanical and environmental challenges. A highly efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst is herein developed via the unique self‐templated conversion of a guanosine‐based supramolecular hydrogel and presents a fully integrated design strategy to successfully fabricate an omnidirectionally stretchable and extremely environment‐adaptable Zn–air battery (ZAB) through the synergistic engineering of active materials and device architecture. The electrocatalyst demonstrates a very low reversible overpotential of only 0.68 V for oxygen reduction/evolution reactions (ORR/OER). This ZAB exhibits superior omnidirectional stretchability with a full‐cell areal strain of >1000% and excellent durability, withstanding more than 10 000 stretching cycles. Promisingly, without any additional pre‐treatment, the ZAB exhibits outstanding ultra‐low temperature tolerance (down to −60 °C) and superior waterproofness, withstanding continuous water rinsing (>5 h) and immersion (>3 h). The present work offers a promising strategy for the design of omnidirectionally stretchable and high‐performance energy storage devices for future on‐skin wearable applications.

The establishment of ship trajectory prediction is critical in analyzing trajectory data. It serves as a critical reference point for identifying abnormal behavior and potential collision risks for ships. Accurate and real-time ship trajectory prediction is essential during navigation. Since the timing of automatic identification system (AIS) data is irregular, traditional methods usually use time calibration to simulate the data of uniform sequencing before analysis. Inevitably, this increases the chances of error and time delays. To address this issue, we propose a time-aware LSTM (T-LSTM) single-ship trajectory model combined with the generative adversarial network (GAN) to predict multiple ship trajectories. These analysis methods are capable of directly analyzing AIS data and have demonstrated better performance in both single-ship and multi-ship trajectories. Our experimental results show that the proposed method achieves high accuracy and can meet the practical navigation requirements of ships.

Inspired by the bionic Bouligand structure, helicoidal carbon fiber-reinforced polymer composite (CFRPC) laminates have been proven to own outstanding out-of-plane mechanical properties. This work aims to further explore the excellent bending characteristics of helicoidal CFRPC laminated plates and find out the optimal helicoidal layup patterns. The optimization design of laminated plates stacked with single-form and combination-form helicoidal layup sequences are carried out by using the finite element method (FEM) and adaptive simulated annealing (ASA) optimization algorithm on the Isight platform. Then, the nonlinear bending responses of optimal helicoidal CFRPC laminated plates are investigated via the FEM for the first time. The helicoidal CFRPC laminated plates under three different types of boundary conditions subjected to transverse uniformly distributed load are considered. The numerical results reveal that the combination-form helicoidal layup sequences can decrease the dimensionless bending deflection of laminated plates by more than 5% compared with the quasi-isotropic plate and enhance the out-of-plane bending characteristics of CFRPC laminated plates effectively. The boundary conditions can significantly influence the nonlinear bending responses of helicoidal CFRPC laminated plates.

Pipe leakage is an inevitable phenomenon in water distribution networks (WDNs), leading to energy waste and economic damage. Leakage events can be reflected quickly by pressure values, and the deployment of pressure sensors is significant for minimizing the leakage ratio of WDNs. Concerning the restriction of realistic factors, including project budgets, available sensor installation locations, and sensor fault uncertainties, a practical methodology is proposed in this paper to optimize pressure sensor deployment for leak identification in terms of these realistic issues. Two indexes are utilized to evaluate the leak identification ability, that is, detection coverage rate (DCR) and total detection sensitivity (TDS), and the principle is to determine priority to ensure an optimal DCR and retain the largest TDS with an identical DCR. Leakage events are generated by a model simulation and the essential sensors for maintaining the DCR are obtained by subtraction. In the event of a surplus budget, and if we suppose the partial sensors have failed, then we can determine the supplementary sensors that can best complement the lost leak identification ability. Moreover, a typical WDN Net3 is employed to show the specific process, and the result shows that the methodology is largely appropriate for real projects.

Fluid-induced vibration is a common phenomenon in fluid–structure interaction. A flow-induced vibrational energy harvester based on a corrugated hyperstructure bluff body which can improve energy collection efficiency under low wind speeds is proposed in this paper. CFD simulation of the proposed energy harvester was carried out with COMSOL Multiphysics. The flow field around the harvester and the output voltage in different flow velocities is discussed and validated with experiments. Simulation results show that the proposed harvester has an improved harvesting efficiency and higher output voltage. Experimental results show that the output voltage amplitude of the harvester increased by 189% under 2 m/s wind speed.

An acoustic black hole (ABH) has been applied in the regulation of structural performance to form the aggregation effect of elastic waves in the local area of the structure, which has been used in energy harvesting in recent years. The piezoelectric vibration energy harvester (VEH) integrated with the beam of a bilateral periodic 1D ABH is proposed in this study. The theoretical model of the proposed VEH is established and analyzed based on the transfer matrix method. The performance of the VEHs is numerically simulated by COMSOL Multiphysics. The simulation results show that the performance of the bilateral ABH beam is higher than its traditional counterpart. Finally, the performance of the proposed VEH is validated in an experimental system. The experimental results show that the peak output voltage of the VEH Model 3 can reach 169.16 V, which is 1.9 times that of the traditional one. In the optimal impedance matching, the output power of the third bilateral VEH is 2.7 times that of the traditional ABH, which can reach 91.52 mW.

Microneedles are a well-known transdermal or transdermal drug delivery system. Different from intramuscular injection, intravenous injection, etc., the microneedle delivery system provides unique characteristics for immunotherapy administration. Microneedles can deliver immunotherapeutic agents to the epidermis and dermis, where immune cells are abundant, unlike conventional vaccine systems. Furthermore, microneedle devices can be designed to respond to certain endogenous or exogenous stimuli including pH, reactive oxygen species (ROS), enzyme, light, temperature, or mechanical force, thereby allowing controlled release of active compounds in the epidermis and dermis. In this way, multifunctional or stimuli-responsive microneedles for immunotherapy could enhance the efficacy of immune responses to prevent or mitigate disease progression and lessen systemic adverse effects on healthy tissues and organs. Since microneedles are a promising drug delivery system for accurate delivery and controlled drug release, this review focuses on the progress of using reactive microneedles for immunotherapy, especially for tumors. Limitations of current microneedle system are summarized, and the controllable administration and targeting of reactive microneedle systems are examined.

Sliding mode control has been widely used to control permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM). However, the parameters of the sliding mode controller are difficult to be tuned, which makes the control performance of PMSM hard to be improved. A nonlinear sliding mode control method that integrated a nonlinear reaching law (NRLSMC) and extended state observer (ESO) is proposed in this paper, whose parameters are tuned by an improved genetic algorithm (IGA). The control performance of the nonlinear reaching law in the nonlinear sliding mode controller is analyzed, whose stability is verified based on the Lyapunov theorem. An extended state observer is integrated into the above controller to further improve the anti-interference capability, and compensate for the observed external disturbance of the system into the speed controller in sliding mode. The optimal parameters of the above sliding mode control are tuned by IGA combined with the system speed loop model. The performance of the proposed controller is numerically simulated in MATLAB/Simulink and verified in a control system rapid control prototype (RCP) experimental platform built based on dSPACE 1202. Numerical simulation and experimental results show that the proposed controller can make the PMSM control system with the advantages of no overshoot, fast response, and strong robustness.

Flash memory-based computing-in-memory (CIM) architectures have gained popularity due to their remarkable performance in various computation tasks of data processing, including machine learning, neuron networks, and scientific calculations. Especially in the partial differential equation (PDE) solver that has been widely utilized in scientific calculations, high accuracy, processing speed, and low power consumption are the key requirements. This work proposes a novel flash memory-based PDE solver to implement PDE with high accuracy, low power consumption, and fast iterative convergence. Moreover, considering the increasing current noise in nanoscale devices, we investigate the robustness against the noise in the proposed PDE solver. The results show that the noise tolerance limit of the solver can reach more than five times that of the conventional Jacobi CIM solver. Overall, the proposed flash memory-based PDE solver offers a promising solution for scientific calculations that require high accuracy, low power consumption, and good noise immunity, which could help to develop flash-based general computing.

Grouting is the most widely used technology for treating coal goafs. In this study, a numerical simulation method was used to establish a model of multi-seam goafs with different spacing conditions to investigate the subsidence reduction effects of various grouting schemes on multi-coal seam goafs. By varying the range and opportunity of grouting treatments, the effects of coal seam spacing, grouting treatment range, and grouting opportunity on subsidence reduction were analyzed. The results showed that: (1) With constant overburden (OB), the subsidence reduction ratio of the subgrade center increases linearly as the interburden (IB) decreases (1 ≤ OB/IB ≤ 2), then increases exponentially (2 < OB/IB), and eventually becomes stable. (2) When treatment is conducted based on the half-width of the subgrade, the width of the subgrade, and the range of the trapezoid, residual surface subsidence tends to adopt an inclined ‘W’-shape in open cutting. The surface residual subsidence exhibits a symmetrical ‘W’-shape when full-range grouting is adopted. (3) For a multi-coal seam goaf with longer mining stoppage time, the subsidence reduction ratio of the subgrade center is lower, and it is exponentially related to the grouting opportunity. As the grouting opportunity is extended and OB/IB decreases, the subsidence reduction ratio of the subgrade center declines exponentially.

Biomaterials carrying recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2) have been developed to enhance bone regeneration in the treatment of bone defects. However, various reports have shown that in the bone repair microenvironment, fibroblasts can inhibit BMP2-induced osteogenic differentiation in mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Thus, factors that can target fibroblasts and improve BMP2-mediated osteogenesis should be explored. In this project, we focused on whether or not an inhibitor of the NF-κB signaling pathway, QNZ (EVP4593), could play a synergistic role with BMP2 in osteogenesis by regulating the activity of fibroblasts. The roles of QNZ in regulating the proliferation and migration of fibroblasts were examined. In addition, the effect of QNZ combined with BMP2 on the osteogenic differentiation of MSCs was evaluated both in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, the detailed mechanisms by which QNZ improved BMP2-mediated osteogenesis through the modulation of fibroblasts were analyzed and revealed. Interestingly, we found that QNZ inhibited the proliferation and migration of fibroblasts. Thus, QNZ could relieve the inhibitory effects of fibroblasts on the homing and osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells. Furthermore, biomaterials carrying both QNZ and BMP2 showed better osteoinductivity than did those carrying BMP2 alone both in vitro and in vivo. It was found that the mechanism of QNZ involved reactivating YAP activity in mesenchymal stem cells, which was inhibited by fibroblasts. Taken together, our results suggest that QNZ may be a candidate factor for assisting BMP2 in inducing osteogenesis. The combined application of QNZ and BMP2 in biomaterials may be promising for the treatment of bone defects in the future.

Oncolytic viruses (OVs) represent promising therapeutic agents for cancer therapy by selective oncolysis and induction of anti-tumor immunity. OVs can be engineered to express tumor-associated antigens and immune-modulating agents to provoke stronger antitumor immunity. Here, we engineered vaccinia virus (VV) and Semliki Forest virus (SFV) to express neuroblastoma-associated antigen disialoganglioside (GD2) and the immune modulator Helicobacter pylori neutrophil-activating protein (NAP) and compared their therapeutic potency. Oncolytic VV did not exhibit any antitumor benefits, whereas SFV was able to delay subcutaneous neuroblastoma (NXS2) tumor growth. Additional expression of the GD2 mimotope (GD2m) by VV-GD2m or SFV-GD2m did not improve their anti-tumor capacity compared to the parent viruses. Further arming these OVs with NAP resulted in contrasting anti-tumor efficacy. VV (VV-GD2m-NAP) significantly improved therapeutic efficacy compared to VV-GD2m, which was also associated with a significantly elevated anti-GD2 antibody, whereas there was no additive antitumor efficacy for SFV-GD2m-NAP compared to SFV-GD2m, nor was the anti-GD2 antibody response improved. Instead, NAP induced higher neutralizing antibodies against SFV. These observations suggest that distinct immune stimulation profiles are elicited when the same immunostimulatory factor is expressed by different OVs. Therefore, careful consideration and detailed characterization are needed when engineering OVs with immune-modulators.

The substitution properties of Mn2+ to Zn2+ for Zn3B2O6 ceramic was probed at the atomic scale using the first principle calculation, involving the bond properties, electron density, and formation energy. All samples were synthesized through the solid–state reaction method, and the variation of macro performance, like sintering and dielectric properties, was discussed in detail. The sintering property was characterized by the differential-thermal & thermo-mechanical analyzer and scanning electron microscopy, the dielectric property was characterized by the Network Analyzer, and the phase formation was verified by the X-ray dispersive spectroscopy. Three sites in the Zn3B2O6 crystal are available for Mn2+ to be occupied, and the substitution process for the Zn3 site has the lowest formation energy. The ion-substitution in ZnO4 tetrahedron results in the change of the electron distribution and bond property. The dielectric performance of Zn3B2O6 ceramic has been improved, and the microstructure has been densified at 900 °C, yielding values of εr = 6.58, Q×f = 88,100 GHz (15 GHz), relative density = 96.7%, and τf = −56.5 ppm/°C as x = 0.04. Additionally, the activation energy has been decreased and the densification window shifts forward slightly.

At present, electroencephalogram (EEG) signals play an irreplaceable role in the diagnosis and treatment of human diseases and medical research. EEG signals need to be processed in order to reduce the adverse effects of irrelevant physiological process interference and measurement noise. Wavelet transform (WT) can provide a time-frequency representation of a dynamic process, and it has been widely utilized in salient feature analysis of EEG. In this paper, we investigate the problem of translation variability (TV) in discrete wavelet transform (DWT), which causes degradation of time-frequency localization. It will be verified through numerical simulations that TV is caused by downsampling operations in decomposition process of DWT. The presence of TV may cause severe distortions of features in wavelet subspaces. However, this phenomenon has not attracted much attention in the scientific community. Redundant discrete wavelet transform (RDWT) is derived by eliminating the downsampling operation. RDWT enjoys the attractive merit of translation invariance. RDWT shares the same time-frequency pattern with that of DWT. The discrete delta impulse function is used to test the time-frequency response of DWT and RDWT in wavelet subspaces. The results show that DWT is very sensitive to the translation of delta impulse function, while RDWT keeps the decomposition results unchanged. This conclusion has also been verified again in decomposition of actual EEG signals. In conclusion, to avoid possible distortions of features caused by translation sensitivity in DWT, we recommend the use of RDWT with more stable performance in BCI research and clinical applications.

Graft healing after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) involves slow biological processes, and various types of biological modulations have been explored to promote tendon-to-bone integration. Exosomes have been extensively studied as a promising new cell-free strategy for tissue regeneration, but few studies have reported their potential in tendon-to-bone healing. In this study, a novel type of exosome derived from magnetically actuated (iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) combined with a magnetic field) bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) (IONP-Exos) was developed, and the primary purpose of this study was to determine whether IONP-Exos exert more significant effects on tendon-to-bone healing than normal BMSC-derived exosomes (BMSC-Exos). Here, we isolated and characterized the two types of exosomes, conducted in vitro experiments to measure their effects on fibroblasts (NIH3T3), and performed in vivo experiments to compare the effects on tendon-to-bone integration. Moreover, functional exploration of exosomal miRNAs was further performed by utilizing a series of gain- and loss-of-function experiments. Experimental results showed that both BMSC-Exos and IONP-Exos could be shuttled intercellularly into NIH3T3 fibroblasts and enhanced fibroblast activity, including proliferation, migration, and fibrogenesis. In vivo, we found that IONP-Exos significantly prevented peri-tunnel bone loss, promoted more osseous ingrowth into the tendon graft, increased fibrocartilage formation at the tendon-bone tunnel interface, and induced a higher maximum load to failure than BMSC-Exos. Furthermore, overexpression of miR-21-5p remarkably enhanced fibrogenesis in vitro, and SMAD7 was shown to be involved in the promotive effect of IONP-Exos on tendon-to-bone healing. Our findings may provide new insights into the regulatory roles of IONPs in IONP-Exos communication via stimulating exosomal miR-21-5p secretion and the SMAD7 signaling pathway in the fibrogenic process of tendon-to-bone integration. This work could provide a new strategy to promote tendon-to-bone healing for tissue engineering in the future.

This study investigated the effects of convective drying(CD) and freeze drying(FD) on bioactive and volatile components in jujube. No significant difference in total phenolic, total flavonoids and antioxidant capacity among CD60, CD70, CD80 and FD samples (P > 0.05). LC-MS/MS analysis showed that this trend mainly originated from the dynamic equilibrium relationships between caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, rutin, epicatechin, and quercetin. HS-SPME-GC–MS identified 31 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) comprising more than 80% aldehydes and acids. Principal component analysis distinguished the VOC characteristics of samples subjected to different drying methods. Six VOCs had an odor activity value (OAV) >1, most of which were fatty acid oxidation or Maillard reaction products. Combined with the precursor components, these reactions were speculated to be the major VOC-producing pathways in dried jujube. Considering the bioactive components and flavor retention, CD at 60 °C was an effective drying method with potential to replace FD.

Pyroptosis is a proinflammatory programmed cell death pathway mediated by gasdermins. Exploring the role of pyroptosis can provide new insights into tumor malignancy. The most recent studies on pyroptosis have focused on tumor cells. However, the effects of pyroptosis on the tumor microenvironment (TME), immunotherapeutic responses, and efficacy have been neglected, especially in case of glioma. In this study, four independent glioma cohorts comprising 1,339 samples and a pan-cancer cohort comprising 10,535 tumor samples were analyzed. The relationships among pyroptosis status, prognosis, microenvironment cellular components, and clinical and biological phenotypes were investigated through the identification of pyroptosis subtypes, construction of a gasdermin-related prognostic index (GPI), and evaluation of immunological characteristics in glioma. The Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer database and “pRRophetic” package in R were used to estimate temozolomide (TMZ) sensitivity. The “Submap” package and external immunotherapy cohorts were used to investigate and confirm the role of GPI in response to and efficacy of immunotherapy in glioma. Finally, potential small-molecule compounds related to GPI were identified using the connectivity map database and mode-of-action analysis. We identified three different pyroptosis subtypes: cluster 1 (C1) characterized by a higher GPI, while cluster 2 (C2) and cluster 3 (C3) characterized by a lower GPI. The high GPI of C1 was associated with glioma progression and worse prognoses, whereas the low GPI of subtype C2 and C3 was associated with better prognoses. However, patients with high GPIs were found to be more sensitive to TMZ and immune checkpoint blockade than those with low GPIs. Furthermore, gasdermin D may be a principal potential biomarker and play key roles in pyroptosis-inducible therapy combined with immunotherapy in glioma. This study provides a clinical, biological, and molecular landscape of pyroptosis and suggests that pyroptosis of glioma cells may perform the dual function of promoting both tumorigenesis and antitumor immunity.

IntroductionGiant, cystic renal tumors are generally considered relatively contraindicated for laparoscopic surgery. We report on a 19-year-old male, where polycystic lesions in the left kidney were accidentally noted by enhanced computed tomography (CT) by focusing on the diagnostic, clinical, and surgery to the patient.Case ReportEnhanced CT scan revealed solid component in multiple cystic lesions of Bosniak IV, which was enhanced after injection of contrast agent and the left kidney lost normal profile and enlarged with maximal diameter more than 18cm. Positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) showed SUVmax 4.8 of the lesion and suggested malignant disease. A retroperitoneal laparoscopic radical left nephrectomy was performed successfully without cyst burst and the lesion was 17×17×18 cm in size. Pathological examination revealed that the lesions were consistent with papillary renal cell carcinoma (type 2, WHO grade II), no renal capsule invasion, no renal pelvis and renal sinus fat involvement, no abnormality in ureter and renal arteriovenous end, no abnormality in a few adrenal tissues, chronic inflammation of hilar lymph nodes (0/1). After surgery, no specific treatment was initiated and at a follow-up visit 1 year after surgery, no local recurrence or metastasis was found.ConclusionIt is the largest cystic renal cell carcinoma that has ever been reported for laparoscopic resection. The selection of surgery for giant cystic renal cell carcinoma should be individualized. Retroperitoneal laparoscopy may be an option for such lesions.

Background: NSAIDs are one of the most frequently used medications and a risk factor for AKI. However, the optimal time of NSAIDs in patients with AKI is unknown.Methods: A secondary analysis of a multicenter, randomized clinical trial including adult inpatients with acute kidney injury was performed. Univariate, multivariate, and subgroup analyses were used to explore the impact of NSAIDs during the early onset of AKI on the outcome of patients with AKI.Results: A total of 6,030 patients with AKI were enrolled in the study. Following are the findings of the multi-factor analysis: NSAID treatments within 72 and 24 h before the onset of AKI were not associated with AKI progression, dialysis, or discharge from dialysis; only NSAID treatment within the 24-h onset of AKI was associated with these outcomes, and their OR values were independently 1.50 (95% CI: 1.02–2.19, p = 0.037), 4.20 (95% CI: 1.47–11.97, p = 0.007), and 0.71 (95% CI: 0.54–0.92, p = 0.011); only NSAID treatment within the 24-h onset of AKI would decrease the 14-day mortality, and the OR value was 0.52 (95% CI: 0.33–0.82, p = 0.005). The subgroup analysis revealed that in patients with age ≥65 years, CKD (chronic kidney disease), congestive heart failure, hypertension, and liver disease, NSAID treatments within the 24-h onset of AKI would deteriorate the outcome of patients with AKI.Conclusion: Before an early onset of AKI, NSAID treatment might be safe, but during the onset of AKI, even early NSAID treatment would deteriorate the outcome of patients with AKI.

The Hippo signaling pathway, which is historically considered as a dominator of organ development and homeostasis has recently been implicated as an immune regulator. However, its role in host defense against influenza A virus (IAV) has not been widely investigated. Here, we found that IAV could activate the Hippo effectors Yes-associated protein (YAP) and transcriptional coactivator with PDZ-binding motif (TAZ) through physical binding of the IAV non-structural protein 1 (NS1) with C-terminal domain of YAP/TAZ, facilitating their nuclear location. Meanwhile, YAP/TAZ downregulated the expression of pro-inflammatory and anti-viral cytokines against IAV infection, therefore benefiting virus replication and host cell apoptosis. A mouse model of IAV infection further demonstrated Yap deficiency protected mice against IAV infection, relieving lung injury. Mechanistically, YAP/TAZ blocked anti-viral innate immune signaling via downregulation of Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) expression. YAP directly bound to the putative TEADs binding site on the promoter region of TLR3. The elimination of acetylated histone H3 occupancy in the TLR3 promoter resulted in its transcriptional silence. Moreover, treatment of Trichostatin A, a histone deacetylases (HDACs) inhibitor or disruption of HDAC4/6 reversed the inhibition of TLR3 expression by YAP/TAZ, suggesting HDAC4/6 mediated the suppression function of YAP/TAZ. Taken together, we uncovered a novel immunomodulatory mechanism employed by IAV, where YAP/TAZ antagonize TLR3-mediated innate immunity.

Abstract Background Transmembrane protein with EGF-like and two follistatin-like domains 2 (TMEFF2) is a transmembrane protein in the tomoregulin family. Little research has been performed to determine whether TMEFF2 methylation is a prognostic marker in adult diffuse gliomas. Methods In this study, we investigated TMEFF2 expression in surgical glioma tissue samples. In addition, we conducted bisulfite amplicon sequencing (BSAS) and methylation-specific PCR (MSP) to evaluate TMEFF2 methylation in glioblastoma (GBM) cells. Subsequently, we investigated the biological function of TMEFF2 in GBM cells. Moreover, we explored the prognostic significance of TMEFF2 in gliomas by analysing a cohort dataset from TCGA. Abstract For a class of conic‐type non‐linear time‐delay Markov jump systems, the asynchronous dissipative output feedback controller based on the guaranteed cost control and quantiser is designed in this study. In real applications, the system and the controller modes are always non‐synchronous, so we introduce the hidden Markov model to solve this problem. Furthermore, we define three novel auxiliary variables and use quantisers to accomplish the output feedback controller design. Then, the finite‐time boundedness and strict dissipativity of the closed‐loop systems are guaranteed by sufficient conditions, and the controller also meets the guaranteed cost‐control performance. By solving a set of linear matrix inequalities, we get the controller gains, the guaranteed cost control performance index J*, and the dissipative performance index α. Finally, the correctness and feasibility of this designed approach are demonstrated by a given example.

Abstract Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of synovial fluid interleukin (IL)-1β in diagnosing chronic periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) and to identify the optimal threshold of synovial fluid IL-1β for differentiating chronic PJI from aseptic failure after knee and hip arthroplasties. Methods Between January 2019 and December 2019, we prospectively included patients scheduled to have a revision surgery for chronic PJI or aseptic failure after total joint arthroplasty. Then, synovial IL-1β was additionally measured along with routine preoperative diagnostic serum and synovial biomarkers. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and area under the curve (AUC) were analyzed for each biomarker to determine diagnostic efficacy. Results Of the 93 patients included, their demographic data were not found to be statistically significant. Phase unwrapping (PU) has always been a critical and challenging step in interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) data processing. Inspired by existing research, i.e., the PGNet, we propose a novel quality-guided 2-D InSAR PU method via deep learning, and regard PU as a two-stage process. In the first stage, the ambiguity gradient is estimated using the proposed global attention U-Net (GAUNet) architecture, which combines the classic U-Net structure and global attention mechanism. Then, in the second stage, the classical PU framework (e.g., the L1- or L2-norm) is applied as a post-processing operation to retrieve the absolute phase. Since class imbalance is a key factor affecting the estimation of ambiguity gradient, different strategies based on four commonly used quality maps are adopted to deal with the problem. The quality map is not only input as additional information for the guidance of the training process, but also participates in the construction of loss function. As a result, GAUNet can pay more attention to the nonzero ambiguity gradients. By using the number of residues as the evaluation metric, we can choose the optimum strategy for the restoration of the absolute phase. In addition to the simulated interferograms, the proposed method is tested both on a real topographic interferogram exhibiting rugged topography and phase aliasing and a differential interferogram measuring the deformation from MW 6.9 Hawaii earthquake, all yield state-of-art performance when comparing with the widely used traditional 2-D PU methods.

Following man-made rules in the traditional control method of autonomous driving causes limitations for intelligent vehicles under various traffic conditions that need to be overcome by incorporating machine learning-based method. The latter is inherently suitable for simple tasks of autonomous driving according to its limited characteristic under complex multi-lane traffic conditions. In this paper, a decision control method is proposed based on multi-task reinforcement learning to address the shortcomings of autonomous driving control under complex traffic conditions. Herein, the autonomous driving task is divided into several subtasks utilizing the proposed method to reduce the training time and improve traffic efficiency under complex multi-lane traffic condition. To ensure the efficiency and robustness of agent convergence to the optimal action space, an adaptive noise exploration method is designed for the subtasks with convex characteristics. Five-lane driving tasks scenarios embedded in Carla simulator have been conducted to verify the proposed method. The results of the simulation draw the conclusion that the proposed method increases the driving efficiency of intelligent vehicles under complex traffic conditions.

Glutamine has been recognized as an important amino acid that provide a variety of intermediate products to fuel biosynthesis. Glutamine metabolism participates in the progression of the tumor via various mechanisms. However, glutamine-metabolism-associated signatures and its significance in prostate cancer are still unclear. In this current study, we identified five genes associated with glutamine metabolism by univariate and Lasso regression analysis and constructed a model to predict the biochemical recurrence free survival (BCRFS) of PCa. Further validation of the prognostic risk model demonstrated a good efficacy in predicting the BCRFS in PCa patients. Interestingly, based on the CIBERSORTx, ssGSEA and ESTIMATE algorithms predictions, we noticed a distinct immune cell infiltration and immune pathway pattern in the prediction of the two risk groups stratified by the risk model. Drug sensitivity prediction revealed that patients in the high-risk group were more suitable for chemotherapy. Last but not least, glutamine deprivation significantly inhibited cell growth in GLUL or ASNS knock down prostate cancer cell lines. Therefore, we proposed a novel prognostic model by using glutamine metabolism genes for PCa patients and identified potential mechanism of PCa progression through glutamine-related tumor microenvironment remodeling.

For the pollution assessment and quantitative source apportionment of heavy metals in surface dust, a total of 52 surface dust samples were collected from bus stops in Tianshui City. The geoaccumulation index (Igeo) and potential ecological risk index (RI) were used to analyze the pollution levels caused by heavy metals. The Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) of the receptor modeling and geo-statistics were employed to analyze the source of the heavy metals. The results were as follows. ① Except for Mn, Co and V, the mean concentrations of other heavy metals have exceeded the local background value of Gansu. The percentage of excessive concentrations of Cu, Zn, Sr, Ba and Pb in the samples was 100%, and that of Cr, Ni and As were 96.15%, 94.23%, and 96.15%, respectively. ② Semivariogram model fitting showed that the block-based coefficients of Cu, Zn, Sr, Ba, Pb, Cr, Ni, and As were between 0.25 and 0.75, indicating that they were mainly affected by human factors. The high values of Pb, Zn, Ni and As were mainly distributed in the eastern part of the study area, and the high values of Cu, Sr, Ba and Cr were distributed in a spot-like pattern in the study area. ③ The Igeo results showed that As, Cu, Zn, and Pb were the main contamination factors, and the optimized RI showed that the heavy metals were the overall ecological risk of intensity, among which Pb, As and Cu were the main ecological factors and should be taken as the priority control objects. ④ Based on the PMF, there are four main sources of eleven heavy metals. V, Mn, and Co were attributed to natural sources, accounting for 18.33%; Cu, Sr, and Ba were from mixed sources of pollution from transportation and industrial alloy manufacturing, accounting for 26.99%; Cr and Ni were from sources of construction waste pollution, accounting for 17.17%, As, Zn and Pb were mainly produced by coal-traffic mixed pollution emissions, accounting for 37.52%. Overall, the study area was dominated by coal-traffic emissions.

The wave energy focus effect of an acoustic black hole (ABH) is used for broadband vibration energy harvesting and boosts the harvested power. A vibration energy harvester based on two-dimensional ABH is proposed in this study, which consists of a rectangle plate with 2-D ABH and PZT film attached. The structure of ABH was designed and analyzed based on numerical simulation. The optimal parameters of the ABH were obtained, such as the power index, truncation thickness, cross-sectional length, and round table diameter, which were 3, 0.4 mm, 40 mm, and 24 mm, respectively. The quadratic velocity of the plate surface with ABH is up to 22.33 times that of a flat plate, and PZT film adheres to the corresponding positions of the ABH structure and plate structure, respectively. In the same condition, the average output power of a PZT with an ABH structure is higher than that of a flat plate under the same excitation-vibration condition.

Supporting Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enhanced intelligent applications on the resource-limited Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) platform is difficult due to the resource gap between the two. It is promising to partition an AI application into a service function (SF) chain and then dispatch the SFs onto multiple UAVs. However, it is still a challenging task to efficiently schedule the computation and communication resources of multiple UAVs to support a large number of SF chains (SFCs). Under the multi-UAV edge computing paradigm, this paper formulates the SFC scheduling problem as a 0–1 nonlinear integer programming problem. Then, a two-stage heuristic algorithm is put forward to solve this problem. At the first stage, if the resources are surplus, the SFCs are deployed to UAV edge servers in parallel based on our proposed pairing principle between SFCs and UAVs for minimizing the completion time sum of tasks. In contrast, a revenue maximization heuristic method is adopted to deploy the arrived SFCs in a serial service mode when the resource is insufficient. A series of experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of our proposal. Results show that our algorithm outperforms other benchmark algorithms in the completion time sum of tasks, the overall revenue, and the task execution success ratio

Background: In acute myocardial infarction (AMI), acute hepatic injury is an independent risk factor for prognosis and is associated with complex coagulation dynamics. This study aims to determine the interaction between acute hepatic injury and coagulation dysfunction on outcomes in AMI patients. Methods: The Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC-III) database was used to identify AMI patients who underwent liver function testing within 24 h of admission. After ruling out previous hepatic injury, patients were divided into the hepatic injury group and the nonhepatic injury group based on whether the alanine transaminase (ALT) level at admission was >3 times the upper limit of normal (ULN). The primary outcome was intensive care unit (ICU) mortality. Results: Among 703 AMI patients (67.994% male, median age 65.139 years (55.757–76.859)), acute hepatic injury occurred in 15.220% (n = 107). Compared with the nonhepatic injury group, patients with hepatic injury had a higher Elixhauser comorbidity index (ECI) score (12 (6–18) vs. 7 (1–12), p < 0.001) and more severe coagulation dysfunction (85.047% vs. 68.960%, p < 0.001). In addition, acute hepatic injury was associated with increased in-hospital mortality (odds ratio (OR) = 3.906; 95% CI: 2.053–7.433; p < 0.001), ICU mortality (OR = 4.866; 95% CI: 2.489–9.514; p < 0.001), 28-day mortality (OR = 4.129; 95% CI: 2.215–7.695; p < 0.001) and 90-day mortality (OR = 3.407; 95% CI: 1.883–6.165; p < 0.001) only in patients with coagulation disorder but not with normal coagulation. Unlike patients with coagulation disorder and normal liver, patients with both coagulation disorder and acute hepatic injury had greater odds of ICU mortality (OR = 8.565; 95% CI: 3.467–21.160; p < 0.001) than those with normal coagulation. Conclusions: The effects of acute hepatic injury on prognosis are likely to be modulated by early coagulation disorder in AMI patients.

The large axial flow pump systems used in coastal pump stations are often required to add flap valves to the gates to improve the quality of the transition process. However, due to the unclear mechanism of the additional flap valve on the transition process of the large axial flow pump system, there are many difficulties in the design and application of this feature. In this paper, six kinds of flap valves with different areas are designed. On the basis of the secondary development of the Flomaster software, the transient simulation method is used to study the impact of flap valves with different areas on the large axial flow pump system synchronous start-up process, the asynchronous start-up process, the synchronous stop process and the asynchronous stop process. The research results show that when the AOF is less than 38% Ag during the asynchronous startup, increasing the AOF can significantly improve the shunt ability of the flap valve during startup. However, in the process of asynchronous starting, the working capacity of the flap valve is less affected by the AOF. During the asynchronous shutdown process, the additional flap valve can effectively delay the attenuation of the LAPS flow and reduce the instantaneous head and power. However, when the AOF reaches 38% Ag, further increasing the AOF has no obvious gain in reducing the maximum instantaneous head and power of the LAPS. When the AOF increases from 38% Ag to 49% Ag, the maximum instantaneous head and the power of the LAPS only decrease by 2.7% and 1.4%, respectively.

The application of traditional materials with constant thermal conductivity in time-varying thermal environments poses great challenges due to their inability of adjusting thermal conductivity according to different requirements, for which reason materials with adjustable thermal conductivity have attracted much attention. However, certain limitations induced by those materials’ low softness or harsh adjustment conditions restrict them from being applied in heat dissipation and heat transfer scenarios. In this study, we report a biomimetic liquid metal–elastomer composited foam with adjustable thermal conductivity (B-LM-ECF). Inspired by the rationale of homeothermic animals regulating the thermal conductivity of their subcutaneous tissue, the prepared material adjusts its thermal conductivity via adjusting the volume proportion of liquid metal within it. The thermal conductivity of B-LM-ECF can be adjusted within the range of 0.11–8.4 W·m−1K−1. The adjustment factor η of B-LM-ECF is 76, which is defined as the ratio of the highest to the lowest thermal conductivity of the material. The material enabling reversible switching for itself from thermal insulation to heat dissipation. The prepared material exhibits 45 KPa of Young’s modulus with the maximum fracture tensile rate of 600%, facilitating better covering for thermal management objects. We selected a power lithium battery and a smartphone as specific thermal management objects to demonstrate its practical application in thermal management experiment.

In the past few decades, the machine learning (or data-driven) approach has been broadly adopted as an alternative to scientific discovery, resulting in many opportunities and challenges. In the oil and gas sector, subsurface reservoirs are heterogeneous porous media involving a large number of complex phenomena, making their characterization and dynamic prediction a real challenge. This study provides a comprehensive overview of recent research that has employed machine learning in three key areas: reservoir characterization, production forecasting, and well test interpretation. The results show that machine learning can automate and accelerate many reservoirs engineering tasks with acceptable level of accuracy, resulting in more efficient and cost-effective decisions. Although machine learning presents promising results at this stage, there are still several crucial challenges that need to be addressed, such as data quality and data scarcity, the lack of physics nature of machine learning algorithms, and joint modelling of multiple data sources/formats. The significance of this research is that it demonstrates the potential of machine learning to revolutionize the oil and gas sector by providing more accurate and efficient solutions for challenging problems.

The C-C bond lengths of the linear magnetic neutral CnSb, CnSb+ cations and CnSb− anions are within 1.255–1.336 Å, which is typical for cumulene structures with moderately strong double-bonds. In this report, we found that the adiabatic ionization energy (IE) of CnSb decreased with n. When comparing the IE~n relationship of CnSb with that of pure Cn, we found that the latter exhibited a stair-step pattern (n ≥ 6), but the IE~n relationship of CnSb chains took the shape of a flat curve. The IEs of CnSb were lower than those of corresponding pure carbon chains. Different from pure carbon chains, the adiabatic electron affinity of CnSb does not exhibit a parity effect. There is an even-odd alternation for the incremental binding energies of the open chain CnSb (for n = 1–16) and CnSb+ (n = 1–10, when n > 10, the incremental binding energies of odd (n) chain of CnSb+ are larger than adjacent clusters). The difference in the incremental binding energies between the even and odd chains of both CnSb and pure Cn diminishes with the increase in n. The incremental binding energies for CnSb− anions do not exhibit a parity effect. For carbon chain clusters, the most favorable binding site of atomic antimony is the terminal carbon of the carbon cluster because the terminal carbon with a large spin density bonds in an unsaturated way. The C-Sb bond is a double bond with Wiberg bond index (WBI) between 1.41 and 2.13, which is obviously stronger for a carbon chain cluster with odd-number carbon atoms. The WBI of all C-C bonds was determined to be between 1.63 and 2.01, indicating the cumulene character of the carbon chain. Generally, the alteration of WBI and, in particular, the carbon chain cluster is consistent with the bond length alteration. However, the shorter C-C distance did not indicate a larger WBI. Rather than relying on the empirical comparison of bond distance, the WBI is a meaningful quantitative indicator for predicting the bonding strength in the carbon chain.

For autonomous vehicles, obstacle detection results using 3D lidar are in the form of point clouds, and are unevenly distributed in space. Clustering is a common means for point cloud processing; however, improper selection of clustering thresholds can lead to under-segmentation or over-segmentation of point clouds, resulting in false detection or missed detection of obstacles. In order to solve these problems, a new obstacle detection method was required. Firstly, we applied a distance-based filter and a ground segmentation algorithm, to pre-process the original 3D point cloud. Secondly, we proposed an adaptive neighborhood search radius clustering algorithm, based on the analysis of the relationship between the clustering radius and point cloud spatial distribution, adopting the point cloud pitch angle and the horizontal angle resolution of the lidar, to determine the clustering threshold. Finally, an autonomous vehicle platform and the offline autonomous driving KITTI dataset were used to conduct multi-scene comparative experiments between the proposed method and a Euclidean clustering method. The multi-scene real vehicle experimental results showed that our method improved clustering accuracy by 6.94%, and the KITTI dataset experimental results showed that the F1 score increased by 0.0629.

The biochemical recurrence (BCR) of patients with prostate cancer (PCa) after radical prostatectomy is high, and mitochondrial respiration is reported to be associated with the metabolism in PCa development. This study aimed to establish a mitochondrial respiratory gene-based risk model to predict the BCR of PCa. RNA sequencing data of PCa were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases, and mitochondrial respiratory-related genes (MRGs) were sourced via GeneCards. The differentially expressed mitochondrial respiratory and BCR-related genes (DE-MR-BCRGs) were acquired through overlapping BCR-related differentially expressed genes (BCR-DEGs) and differentially expressed MRGs (DE-MRGs) between PCa samples and controls. Further, univariate Cox, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), and multivariate Cox analyses were performed to construct a DE-MRGs-based risk model. Then, a nomogram was established by analyzing the independent prognostic factor of five clinical features and risk scores. Moreover, Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA), tumor microenvironment, and drug susceptibility analyses were employed between high- and low-risk groups of PCa patients with BCR. Finally, qRT-PCR was utilized to validate the expression of prognostic genes. We identified 11 DE-MR-BCRGs by overlapping 132 DE-MRGs and 13 BCR-DEGs and constructed a risk model consisting of 4 genes (APOE, DNAH8, EME2, and KIF5A). Furthermore, we established an accurate nomogram, including a risk score and a Gleason score, for the BCR prediction of PCa patients. The GSEA result suggested the risk model was related to the PPAR signaling pathway, the cholesterol catabolic process, the organic hydroxy compound biosynthetic process, the small molecule catabolic process, and the steroid catabolic process. Simultaneously, we found six immune cell types relevant to the risk model: resting memory CD4+ T cells, monocytes, resting mast cells, activated memory CD4+ T cells, regulatory T cells (Tregs), and macrophages M2. Moreover, the risk model could affect the IC50 of 12 cancer drugs, including Lapatinib, Bicalutamide, and Embelin. Finally, qRT-PCR showed that APOE, EME2, and DNAH8 were highly expressed in PCa, while KIF5A was downregulated in PCa. Collectively, a mitochondrial respiratory gene-based nomogram including four genes and one clinical feature was established for BCR prediction in patients with PCa, which could provide novel strategies for further studies.

Qubit memory that is entangled with photonic qubit is the building block for long distance quantum repeaters. Cavity enhanced and long lived spin wave photon entanglement has been demonstrated by applying dual laser beams onto optical-lattice atoms. However, owing to cross readouts by two beams, retrieval efficiency of spin wave qubit is decreased by one quarter compared to that of single mode spin wave at all storage times. Here, by coupling cold atoms to two modes of a polarization interferometer based cavity, we achieve perfect qubit retrieval in cavity enhanced and long lived atom photon entanglement. A write laser beam is applied onto cold atoms, we then create a magnetic field insensitive spin wave qubit that is entangled with the photonic qubit encoded onto two arms of the interferometer. The spin wave qubit is retrieved by a read beam, which avoids the cross readouts. Our experiment demonstrates 540$\mu$s storage time at 50% intrinsic qubit retrieval efficiency, which is 13.5 times longer than the best reported result.
