Due to the innate highly reactive properties and short life‐time, organic free radicals can often serve as promoters or intermediates to engage in various radical transformations, which are often otherwise difficult to access by ionic pathway‐based mechanisms. With the evolvement of radical chemistry, chiral radical catalyzed‐transformations have recently emerged as an attractive and robust platform for synthesis of chiral molecules of interest. Herein, we highlight several creative and strategic advances in chiral radical catalyst design, cyclization reaction achievements, and future challenges. Key Scientists: In the 1980s, some pioneering studies by Feldman and Oshima revealed that the thiyl radical could catalyze cyclization of vinylcyclopropane with alkenes, providing access to racemic cyclopentanes. In 1996, Brian P. Roberts reported an interesting enantioselective hydrosilylation of prochiral alkenes by using thioglucose‐derived chiral thiyl radical catalysts. Since then, chiral radical catalysis has become an emerging and promising catalytic strategy in organic synthesis. However, this field has not been extensively explored further until the Maruoka group in 2014 achieved the asymmetric C—C bond formation by employing a newly designed indanol core‐based chiral thiyl radical catalyst. In this protocol, an enantioselective radical cyclization of vinylcyclopropanes with electron‐rich alkenes was developed. In 2020, Chen and Xiao disclosed a nitrogen radical‐catalyzed version of this reaction. Later, this strategy was further expanded to metalloradical catalyzed asymmetric radical cascade cyclization reactions by Zhang in 2021. Later on, Wang, Fu and Zhang et al. described a novel class of boryl radical‐catalyzed asymmetric radical cycloisomerization reactions, further showcasing enormous synthetic potential of chiral radical catalysis. Arrays of multiple vortex beams enhance parallel processing capabilities from particle manipulation to information communication. However, the spatial position, topological charge, and energy parameters of the vortex beams within the array have yet to be precisely controlled, posing significant challenges to the realization of multi‐view 3D Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) display using vortex arrays as information carriers. To address this issue, a method for generating vortex arrays based on a phase‐only hologram, customizing the array by using the energy and OAM spectrum of each vortex beam as the loss function is developed. Experimental results indicate that a 2D array generates 100 vortex beams in the spatial frequency domain, while a 3D array in the Fresnel zone produces 252 vortex beams across 7 planes, each with 36 unprecedentedly controllable energy and topological charge vortex beams. Subsequently, images of 4 views using the 3D vortex arrays and decoded through coordinate transformation to achieve a multi‐view 3D OAM display are encoded. The results demonstrate imaging quality with Mean Peak Signal‐to‐Noise Ratio (MPSNR) of 12.7, 13.0, 13.4, and 12.2 dB in 4 views, respectively, offering promising opportunities for applications in 3D optical manipulation, high‐capacity communication, and 3D OAM holography. At present, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has issued interim guidelines for the direct stability assessment of surf-riding and broaching for the second-generation intact stability criteria. Accurately and efficiently predicting surf-riding and broaching remains a key problem to be solved for the direct stability assessment of surf-riding and broaching. Therefore, a six-degree-of-freedom(6DOF) coupled mathematical model is established in this paper. Firstly, the four-degree-of-freedom(4DOF) coupled equations of surge–sway–roll–yaw motions are built based on the traditional MMG maneuvering mathematical model by considering Froude–Krylov forces, diffraction forces and restoring forces, and the heave and pitch are approximately calculated by iteratively solving improved static equilibrium equations in real-time, effectively solving the divergence problem in direct time-domain seakeeping calculations of high-speed ships in stern-quartering waves. Secondly, the hydrodynamic lift forces due to the coexistence of wave particle velocity and ship forward velocity are taken into account in the propeller-thrust and rudder-force models. In addition, the real-time emersion of twin rudders in waves is considered in the rudder-force models. At the same time, the free-running model experiments with a ONR tumblehome vessel are carried out in stern-quartering waves, and the pure loss of stability and broaching motions are observed. Finally, comparative validations between the calculations and the experiments of surf-riding and broaching in stern-quartering waves are carried out, and the effects of the ship speed, the instantaneous wetted surface of the hull, rudder exposure, heave and pitch motions on predicting surf-riding and broaching motions are investigated. The computation results show that the established 6DOF mathematical model has enough accuracy to be used for the direct stability assessment of the surf-riding and broaching failure modes. A grey-box modelling incorporating mechanism and data is presented in this paper to predict the ship manoeuvering motion. The traditional mathematical model in three degrees of freedom is adopted to reveal the known movement mechanism, in which an additional hydrodynamic correction term is developed by Neural Network (NN) based on the data to adaptively estimate the errors induced by the idealised approximation. The KRISO Container Ship (KCS) is taken as the study object and the free-running model tests are carried out to obtain the data for establishing the NN model of hydrodynamic correction terms. The typical manoeuvers (tactical circles, zigzags, Williamson turns) are simulated by the grey-box model and the mathematical model, respectively. The results indicate that the grey-box modelling method proposed in this paper can not only improve the prediction accuracy but also demonstrate a good generalisation performance. Aims: Glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonist (GLP‐1RA) may promote bone formation, but conversely, they could also weaken bones due to the reduction in mechanical load associated with weight loss. However, the clinical effects in humans have not been clearly demonstrated. This meta‐analysis aimed to evaluate whether GLP‐1RAs affect BMD and bone turnover markers. Material and Methods: PubMed, Embase, and Scopus were searched on June 13, 2024. The eligibility criteria were: (1) human studies, (2) receiving a GLP‐1RA for more than 4 weeks, (3) an untreated control group or a placebo group, (4) reporting of at least one BMD or bone turnover marker, and (5) an RCT design. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias 2 tool. Fixed‐ or random‐effects meta‐analysis was performed according to heterogeneity. Results: Seven studies were included in the meta‐analysis. GLP‐1RAs did not significantly change BMD in the femoral neck (mean difference [MD], 0.01 g/cm2; 95% CI, −0.01–0.04 g/cm2), in the total hip (MD, −0.01 g/cm2; 95% CI, −0.02–0.01 g/cm2), and in the lumbar spine (MD, 0 g/cm2; 95% CI, −0.02–0.02 g/cm2). C‐terminal telopeptide of type 1 collagen (CTX), a bone resorption marker, significantly increased after GLP‐1RA treatment (MD, 0.04 μg/L; 95% CI, 0.01–0.07 μg/L). GLP‐1RAs did not significantly change bone formation markers such as procollagen type 1 N‐terminal propeptide, bone‐specific alkaline phosphatase, osteocalcin. Conclusions: GLP‐1RA did not affect BMD and bone formation markers. However, GLP‐1RAs led to a significant increase in CTX. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are formed by the Maillard reaction, a nonenzymatic process that occurs widely in cooking, food processing, and within the human body. Primarily, AGEs are formed by the glycation of reducing sugars with amino groups, and this process is heat‐dependent. With changes in lifestyle, there has been an increase in the diversity of dietary habits, including those patterns associated with Western diets, which include the consumption of processed foods that are rich in AGEs. Excessive intake and exposure to AGEs are known to cause abnormalities in body function such as obesity, diabetes, and fatty liver, and the beneficial effects of AGEs in food processing in improving food flavor and quality. To obtain meaningful data regarding AGEs in a variety of food and human samples, it is necessary to more precisely characterize and analyze the AGEs extracted from samples to obtain accurate results. This review explores the recent analytical research and characterization of AGEs in foods, including casein, β‐lactoglobulin, soy protein, and meat protein, and in human samples, such as glycated‐albumin, hemoglobin, and plasma. Additionally, it explores the metabolic fate of AGEs in the body and the mechanisms of disease associated with metabolic abnormalities that may be caused by the consumption of foods containing AGEs. This review aims to provide an overview of the perspectives of relevant recent and future research on metabolic abnormalities caused by foods containing AGEs or by AGEs produced in the body. Triclosan (TCS) is a high-volume chemical used as an antimicrobial ingredient in more than 2000 consumer products, such as toothpaste, cosmetics, kitchenware, and toys. We report that brief exposure to TCS, at relatively low doses, causes low-grade colonic inflammation, increases colitis, and exacerbates colitis-associated colon cancer in mice. Exposure to TCS alters gut microbiota in mice, and its proinflammatory effect is attenuated in germ-free mice. In addition, TCS treatment increases activation of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling in vivo and fails to promote colitis in Tlr4-/- mice. Together, our results demonstrate that this widely used antimicrobial ingredient could have adverse effects on colonic inflammation and associated colon tumorigenesis through modulation of the gut microbiota and TLR4 signaling. Together, these results highlight the need to reassess the effects of TCS on human health and potentially update policies regulating the use of this widely used antimicrobial.

γδ T cells, known to be an important source of innate IL-17 in mice, provide critical contributions to host immune responses. Development and function of γδ T cells are directed by networks of diverse transcription factors (TFs). Here, we examine the role of the zinc finger TFs, Kruppel-like factor 10 (KLF10), in the regulation of IL-17-committed CD27- γδ T (γδ27--17) cells. We found selective augmentation of Vγ4+ γδ27- cells with higher IL-17 production in KLF10-deficient mice. Surprisingly, KLF10-deficient CD127hi Vγ4+ γδ27--17 cells expressed higher levels of CD5 than their wild-type counterparts, with hyper-responsiveness to cytokine, but not T-cell receptor, stimuli. Thymic maturation of Vγ4+ γδ27- cells was enhanced in newborn mice deficient in KLF10. Finally, a mixed bone marrow chimera study indicates that intrinsic KLF10 signaling is requisite to limit Vγ4+ γδ27--17 cells. Collectively, these findings demonstrate that KLF10 regulates thymic development of Vγ4+ γδ27- cells and their peripheral homeostasis at steady state.
