Study Objectives: This study was aimed to investigate the effects of combined administration of Catechin and Quercetin on blood lactate level. Methods: The research was conducted on 12 male Wistar rats weighing 300-350 gr. Rats were divided into two groups as the control group (n=6) and the test group (n=6). After the rats were quarantined for 10 days; each rat heart blood was taken on the first test day (pre catechin+quercetin supplementation), and again after they were participated to exercise on the second test day (pre catechin+quercetin supplementation). Between days 3 and 12 after testing (for 10 days), each rat in the test group was given 20 ml/kg of catechin+quercetin once daily, and each rat in the control group was given 1ml/kg of 0.05% Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) by gavage. On days 13 (post catechin+quercetin supplementation), each rat was participated to exercise and take their heart blood. On day 14, the animals were allowed to rest and on day 15 (post catechin+quercetin supplementation), rats' heart blood were taken under anesthesia. Mann-Whitney test was used to analyze data. Results: There was no significant difference between control and test groups during the rest day and during exercise (day 2) testing. Significant changes were observed according to the results of the rats, which were practiced to exercise after administration of catechin+quercetin for 10 days, between day 3 and day 12 after testing. Emergency rooms (ERs) are usually crowded with friends and relatives (FRs) of the patients. This experience may result in changes in smoking behaviors and create opportunities for smoking cessation interventions. The study aims to investigate these changes and offers a new frontier in the fight against smoking.This cross-sectional study was conducted in the ERs of two universities in different cities. A questionnaire consisting of 18 questions was applied to FRs of the emergency patients. Statistical analysis was performed using Jamovi program.A total of 603 respondents were included in the study. Of them, 71.3% were first-degree relatives, 51.7% waited 5 or more times in ER before, and 68.6% spent 0-2 hours in a day around the ER. Upon witnessing patients in the ERs, 53.4% of the FRs had the idea of quitting smoking and 42.9% wanted to have smoking cessation therapy during their wait in the hospital. While 76.1% of the participants were not using different brands of cigarettes when offered in normal life, this rate was lower around the ERs (64.6%) (P0.001). Participants smoked 0.82 ± 0.34 cigarette per hour in normal life excluding sleeping time; this number raised almost 6 folds during the wait (4.85 ± 2.11) (P0.001).FRs smoked more during waiting around ERs. However, they also expressed desire to quit smoking and receive smoking cessation intervention during the wait. Providing smoking cessation counseling to FRs in the ER may be a valuable intervention.

Arsenic contamination in drinking water poses worldwide threat to public health and requires emergency actions in some parts of the world. Several technologies have been used to overcome arsenic contamination issues and to meet the arsenic concentration limitations for public health. In this study, research tendencies on arsenic removal technologies were evaluated. A total of 4083 publications, published between 1970 and 2019, on arsenic removal from drinking water, groundwater and wastewater were retrieved from Web of Science (WoS) database. A bibliometric analysis was carried out and word frequency along with visualization map analysis were used to provide a quantitative analysis, and an overview on the current research trends and research prospects. The results showed that annual output of the “arsenic removal” subject increased significantly after the year 2000. “Article” was the most preferable publication type, and “Journal of Hazardous Materials” had the highest publication number. The most productive country in terms of number of total articles on arsenic removal was China. Also, the South-East Asian countries highly contributed to the literature. “Adsorption” was found to be the most frequently researched arsenic removal technology and nanotechnology plays a significant role in the adsorption development.

This article draws upon work by Gilles Deleuze, Sanford Meisner, and William Connolly to argue that the practice of acting helps citizens to encounter unsettling circumstances in daily life; respond to and connect with others in more open, interactive ways; and expand the relatively stable repertoire of selves each person cultivates through life. Considering scenes from the films of Anna Magnani, Ronald Reagan, and Joan Crawford, I argue that acting spaces can be sites where an exploration and decentring of subjectivity can proceed and new modes of democratic interaction and togetherness can be enacted.

The effect of an ethanolic extract of fresh leaves of Origanum syriacum (OSEE) on the proliferative, apoptotic, and migratory capacities of LoVo and SW620 colon cancer cells was investigated. OSEE showed a concentration-dependent apoptotic and antiproliferative effect on LoVo and SW620 cells at 500 μg mL−1 or higher after 48 h of exposure. Additionally, OSEE inhibited the migration of both LoVo and SW620 cells by decreasing (50–75%) wound-healing capacity at 500 and 1,000 μg mL−1. The results suggest that OSEE may have potential anticarcinogenic activity in metastatic colon cancer cells through the dual effect of inhibiting cell proliferation and migration and induction of apoptosis. Energy storage is one of the highest priority challenges in transitioning to a low-carbon economy. Fluctuating, intermittent primary renewable sources such as wind and solar require low-carbon storage options to enable effective load matching, ensuring security of supply. Chemical storage is one such option, with low or zero carbon fuels such as hydrogen, alcohols and ammonia having been proposed. Ammonia provides zero-carbon hydrogen storage whilst offering liquefaction at relatively low pressures and atmospheric temperatures, enabling ease of transportation in a pre-existing infrastructure. Ammonia can also be used directly as a fuel in power plants such as gas turbines to avoid complete conversion back to hydrogen. It is a relatively unreactive fuel, and so it is of interest to explore the potential utilisation of ammonia/hydrogen mixtures. Hence, the goal of this paper is to provide a first assessment of the suitability of a chosen 70%NH330%H2 (%vol) blend for utilisation within a gas turbine environment, based on primary combustion diagnostics including combustion stability – via OH chemiluminescence - and emissions (NOx and NH3). We report the surface modification of chitosan/poly(ethylene glycol) (chitosan/PEG) hydrogel materials via layer-by-layer (LbL) technique using stimuli-responsive polymers. Water-soluble complexes of Tannic Acid (TA) and a broad-spectrum antibiotic, Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) were prepared and co-assembled at the surface of Chitosan/PEG hydrogels with poly(N-vinyl caprolactam) (PVCL). Compared to the bare hydrogels, the surface spreading and proliferation of human fibroblasts were significantly enhanced on precast hydrogels coated with TA-Cipro/PVCL multilayers. LbL coating also provided enhanced Cipro release from the hydrogel surface at 37 °C compared to bare hydrogels. TA-Cipro/PVCL coated hydrogels showed antibacterial activity through chitosan and temperature-induced release of Cipro from multilayers. Chitosan and Cipro showed a coordinated antibacterial effect on Eschericia coli and Bacillus cereus, reducing their minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). This effect was more pronounced on B. cereus. LbL modification of chitosan-based hydrogels using stimuli responsive polymers can be advantageous for bringing multiple functionalities to these materials without sacrificing their intrinsic properties such as antibacterial activity and biocompatibility. Such LbL-coated hydrogels hold promise in wound treatment as they may promote fibroblast proliferation and skin tissue regeneration.

Renewably generated ammonia offers a form of carbon-free chemical energy storage to meet the differences between uncertain renewable supply and fluctuating demand, and has the potential to support future energy requirements as a power-to-X concept. The storage and transportation characteristics of NH3 are favorable compared with H2, however there are significant combustion research challenges to enhance fuel reactivity whilst reducing harmful emissions production. The purpose of the presented work was to evaluate different fuel delivery concepts for a representative GT combustor. An experimental and numerical comparison was made between swirl-stabilized premixed and diffusion NH3-air flames at elevated inlet temperature (473 K). The exhaust NOx and unburned NH3 emissions generated from each concept were quantified to optimize operational combustor performance. High-speed OH* and NH2* chemiluminescence was employed to characterize the change in flame topology with variation in fuel-air equivalence ratio, and the resultant influence on measured emission concentrations. Chemiluminescence intensities were shown to elucidate changes in sampled exhaust emissions, enabling detailed analysis of intermediate chemistry. A comparison was made between experimental data and chemical kinetic simulations with a reactor network model, demonstrating the sensitivity of NOx emissions to premixed fuel-air equivalence ratio. A comparison was also made between exclusive primary airflow, and the staged introduction of secondary air, to quantify the change in NOx production between each configuration and improve fuel burnout. Secondary air loadings were incrementally increased through the combustor, and the change in exhaust emissions mapped. In addition, reactant humidification was employed as a secondary process for NOx reduction, having shown favorable performance with NH3/H2 mixtures to limit thermochemical NO production. The efficacy of humidification was compared for both premixed and diffusion configurations.
