Padlet is a collaborative online tool that is widely used to complement online learning. This study investigates students' perception of using Padlet while executing project-based learning activities in the learning of entrepreneurship content and skills. Participants were assigned to use Padlet to facilitate remote group work discussions. Once the activities were completed, they filled out an online survey to capture their opinions and perceptions of the use of Padlet in their respective projects. The quantitative findings revealed that more than half of the participants agreed that Padlet is a useful online tool to support project-based learning activities. They also agreed Padlet can be used to nurture students’ soft skills. Less than half still wanted to use Padlet if their internet connections were reliable. However, the rest were unsure of continuing using Padlet, and they indicated a preference to use other online tools. A few factors were identified to have also influenced the correlation between Padlet usage and assignments. Based on qualitative findings, although Padlet was viewed as a great collaborative tool supporting project-based learning activities in entrepreneurship education, it must be used with other online tools to overcome its technical shortcomings. Hence, modifying pedagogical strategies shall also be considered for making students participate actively in online discussion. In future, an in-depth investigation should focus on understanding the effectiveness of Padlet in entrepreneurship education in post-pandemic scenarios.

Nanoemulsions are considered as the most promising solution to improve the delivery of ophthalmic drugs. The design of ophthalmic nanoemulsions requires an extensive understanding of pharmaceutical as well as technological aspects related to the selection of excipients and formulation processes. This Review aims at providing the readers with a comprehensive summary of possible compositions of nanoemulsions, methods for their formulation (both laboratory and industrial), and differences between technological approaches, along with an extensive outline of the research methods enabling the confirmation of in vitro properties, pharmaceutical performance, and biological activity of the obtained product. The composition of the formulation has a major influence on the properties of the final product obtained with low-energy emulsification methods. Increasing interest in high-energy emulsification methods is a consequence of their scalability important from the industrial perspective. Considering the high-energy emulsification methods, both the composition and conditions of the process (e.g., device power level, pressure, temperature, homogenization time, or number of cycles) are important for the properties and stability of nanoemulsions. It is advisible to determine the effect of each parameter on the quality of the product to establish the optimal process parameters’ range which, in turn, results in a more reproducible and efficient production.

In the analyses of the uncertainty propagation of buildings’ energy-demand, the Monte Carlo method is commonly used. In this study we present two alternative approaches: the stochastic perturbation method and the transformed random variable method. The energy-demand analysis is performed for the representative single-family house in Poland. The investigation is focused on two independent variables, considered as uncertain, the expanded polystyrene thermal conductivity and external temperature; however the generalization on any countable number of parameters is possible. Afterwards, the propagation of the uncertainty in the calculations of the energy consumption has been investigated using two aforementioned approaches. The stochastic perturbation method is used to determine the expected value and central moments of the energy consumption, while the transformed random variable method allows to obtain the explicit form of energy consumption probability density function and further characteristic parameters like quantiles of energy consumption. The calculated data evinces a high accordance with the results obtained by means of the Monte Carlo method. The most important conclusions are related to the computational cost reduction, simplicity of the application and the appropriateness of the proposed approaches for the buildings’ energy-demand calculations.

The result of previous studies showed good accuracy despite minimal training. However, data on the diagnostic accuracy among untrained paramedic students and the course length in middle-income countries is scarce. In Thailand, the current paramedic education does not include training on prehospital ultrasounds. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the diagnostic accuracy of EFAST among ultrasound-naïve paramedic students and factors that are associated with successful posttest training.Methods: Final-year paramedic students attending a 4-year university program were included in this study. A 2-h didactic training session and 1-h hands-on workshop were led by experienced emergency physicians. The diagnostic indices for EFAST interpretation were obtained pretraining and posttraining. The participants’ ultrasound image acquisition was also evaluated individually on a mannequin model using a standardized assessment tool.Results: In total, 47 paramedic students were voluntarily enrolled and underwent EFAST training. Of these participants, 31 (66%) reported having > 1 year of experience in the prehospital field. Four were advanced emergency medical technicians before becoming paramedic students. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value after training were 85.7% (95% CI, 81.5– 89.3), 81.6% (95% CI, 74.2– 87.6), 91.6% (95% CI, 87.9– 94.4), and 71% (95% CI, 63.3– 77.8), respectively. Previous prehospital experience was not associated with accuracy.Conclusion: This study demonstrated that paramedic students in Thailand were able to achieve a competency comparable with that of other medical professionals in a simulated environment. Gaze behavior and performance of internationally ranked players and “near”-expert players were investigated under field conditions for the game situation service-return in badminton. According to the literature, it was assumed that expert players focus more frequently on the racket arm, wrist, and racket of the opponent, while less experienced players focus on the shuttle. Thus, gaze strategy would have an influence on performance. The results contradicted the initial hypotheses: the higher the performance level of the athletes, the more frequently they directed their gaze to the shuttle. Non-professional players were found to focus more often on the upper body and face. To improve gaze behavior in the service situation, on-court drills with focusing on the shuttle region are assumed to be advantageous for athletes of all skill levels. Our research showed that players use other visual search strategies when observing a real opponent then when confronted with a two-dimensional stimulus., La conducta de la mirada y el desempeño de jugadores de categoría internacional y “casi” expertos fueron investigados en condiciones de campo para la situación de juego servicio-devolución en bádminton. Según la literatura, se asumía que los jugadores expertos se enfocan con más frecuencia en el brazo de la raqueta, la muñeca y la raqueta del oponente, mientras que los jugadores menos experimentados se enfocan en el volante. Por tanto, la estrategia de la mirada tendría una influencia en el desempeño. Los resultados contradicen las hipótesis iniciales: entre más alto sea el nivel de desempeño de los atletas, más dirigen la mirada al volante. Los jugadores no profesionales se enfocaron más en la parte superior del cuerpo y el rostro. Se supone que los ejercicios en campo enfocados en el área del volante sirven para mejorar la conducta de la mirada en la situación de servicio en los atletas de todos los niveles de habilidad. Nuestra investigación demuestra que los jugadores usan unas estrategias de búsqueda visual al observar a un oponente real diferentes a las que usan con un estímulo de dos dimensiones.

To avoid the drawbacks of optical video-based motion capture systems and due to the ongoing miniaturization of integrated sensors, an increasing variety of sensor-based systems has been used for motion capture in sports. Meanwhile, there are ready-made, commercially available solutions that claim to be capable of recording reliable kinematic data. This research project focuses on the question of whether a commercially available badminton racket with an integrated sensor device (Oliver® Plasma TX 5) provides meaningful data for diagnostic and training purposes in elite sports. Therefore, 16 elite badminton players executed jump smashes using this sensor racket while the kinematics of the stroke technique were recorded using a high speed video-based system. Bland-Altman plots were applied to analyze the agreement between the two systems. The plots revealed a systematic bias and 95% limits of agreement ranging from 6% to 23%: The detection of stroke techniques showed a 42% rate of success. These data show that the measurement accuracy of the sensor racket is not sufficient for use in diagnostics or training. Future development of the sensor racket could include a method to calibrate the system prior to a measurement, in addition to correcting the underlying algorithm to reduce the bias., Para evitar las desventajas de los sistemas ópticos de captura de movimiento basados en video y debido a la continua miniaturización de los sensores integrados, una creciente variedad de sistemas basados en sensores se ha usado para la captura de movimiento en deportes. Entretanto, existen soluciones ya terminadas y comercialmente disponibles que afirman ser capaces de registrar datos cinemáticos confiables. Este proyecto de investigación se enfoca en la pregunta de si una raqueta de bádminton disponible comercialmente con un sensor integrado (Oliver® Plasma TX 5) proporciona datos relevantes para el diagnóstico y entrenamiento en deportes de élite. Por tanto, 16 jugadores de bádminton de élite ejecutaron remates en salto usando la raqueta con sensor mientras la cinemática de la técnica del golpe era grabada con un sistema de alta velocidad basado en video. Los gráficos de Bland-Altman se usaron para analizar la concordancia entre los dos sistemas. Los gráficos revelaron un sesgo sistemático y límites de concordancia del 95% entre 6% y 23%. La detección de las técnicas del golpe evidenció una tasa de éxito del 42%. Estos datos demuestran que la precisión en la medición de la raqueta con sensor no es suficiente para usarla en diagnóstico o entrenamiento. El desarrollo futuro de la raqueta con sensor podría incluir un método para calibrar el sistema antes de hacer una medición, además de corregir el algoritmo subyacente para reducir el sesgo.

Professional jurisdictional boundaries change throughout time due to a myriad of factors such as scientific advances, social changes, or governmental requirements. Research on the negotiation of these jurisdictional changes has primarily focused on the relational dynamics between professions that affect these boundaries. We examine two physician groups that considered jurisdictional changes which were initially antithetical to their core professional identity. The DOs grappled with whether or not to incorporate drug therapy into their practice, and generalist MDs had to decide whether or not to become a specialty. We find that jurisdictional negotiations also occur within a profession, not just between them. We argue that for a profession to pursue a change in scope, members must settle on an interpretation of their professional identity congruent with the potential jurisdictional change.

We investigated the foraging ecology of three species of babblers in Kampung Gumbang, Kampung Padang Pan and Dered Krian National Park, Bau. Vegetation in Kampung Gumbang include tall trees, shrubs and patches of kerangas. Dered Kerian National Park consists of mixed dipterocarp forest and limestone forest, which is surrounded by orchards and few villages. In Kampung Padang Pan, the vegetation is a mixed fruit orchard and secondary forest. Foraging data were obtained to compare foraging behaviour in three species. From 133 observations, suspended dead leaves was the most frequently used substrate by the three species. Stachyris maculate showed the most general foraging behavior, and it adopted probing strategy. Cyanoderma erythropterum and Mixnornis gularis obtained food items by gleaning. These three babblers utilize different foraging strategies and substrates, irrespective of their resemblances in other characteristics. C. erythropterum and S. maculate forage mainly among dead and curled, twisted leaves in understory vegetation at significantly different heights. M. gularis forages on dead and living leaves and this species can be found abundantly in disturbed forest and plantation or farm habitats. All the three areas were observed never lacked falling leaves and structural complexity required as foraging substrates by those three babbler species. All three babblers occupy different foraging niches, and therefore interspecific competitions among themselves are minimized.

Purpose One of the leading factors that shape product and service delivery are data collected in databases and other repositories maintained by companies. The transformation of such data into knowledge and wisdom may constitute a new source of income. This paper aims to explore how small/medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) advance their business models (BMs) around data to handle data-driven products and how this contributes to their innovativeness and performance. Design/methodology/approach To investigate the phenomenon, the as-is BM of a multinational SME was mapped and its limitations were revealed through a qualitative study. The BM canvas was used. Then the data-driven approach was innovated within the facility management (FM) industry, where a high volume of operational and sensor-based data being collected creates added value in terms of new data-based products. Findings A data-driven business model (DDBM) blueprint for the FM industry that supports the need to complement service-driven operations with the data-driven approach is delivered. Enhanced BM equips a facility manager with additional managerial tools that enable decreasing property utilization costs and opens up new opportunities for generating revenue. This paper drafts the way to evolve from service to data-driven business and point out the attitudes that managers should adopt to promote and implement DDBM. Practical implications The DDBM constitutes a guideline that supports FM organizations in focusing their activities and resources on generating business value from data and monetizing data-driven products. Originality/value The research expands knowledge regarding BMs and their evolution. The gap regarding the DDBM innovation within the FM industry is filled.

Pharmacotherapy is the main treatment method for depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. As such, in many countries the potential service of pharmacist’s, especially for medicine review, active participation in improving patient compliance, and cooperation with mental health clinical pharmacists, within an interdisciplinary healthcare team, are considered significant elements of healthcare. This article uses available references to identify the potential role and describe the types of activities undertaken by pharmacists as one of the groups of specialists supporting the healthcare of psychiatric patients. The participation of pharmacists in screening tests for example towards depression, their role in education, and delivering comprehensive information about medication to patients and other healthcare workers, their role in the improvement of primary prevention and health promotion as well as the participation in actions connected with changing patient’s lifestyle have been described. Special attention was placed on the role of pharmacists in monitoring of pharmacotherapy with the goal to improve patient compliance on the use of antidepressants and participation in evaluation of laboratory test results and analysis of medication prescription in hospitals. Pharmacists should also consider/ take up pharmaceutical care of patients with psychiatric illnesses as an extended area of activity. The changing the attitude towards professional practice from a supplier of medicinal products to a specialist providing the best pharmacotherapy and safety for patients, will consequently increase the level of responsibility of pharmacies and pharmacists. This requires a change in perception of one's own role, an organizational and functional approach to exercising this area of pharmaceutical care. In addition, there is an urgent need to develop new standards, establish cooperation with other healthcare professions, and define strategies for the promotion/ marketing of pharmaceutical care. Restoration of the expected role of the pharmacy will be achieved only if pharmacists accept their social mandate to ensure safe and effective pharmacotherapy for individual patients, which was particularly presented in this paper for patients with mental health problems.

The Oriental Magpie Robin (Copsychus saularis) is among the popular passerines songbird in Borneo. A study on the vocalisation of this tropical species has been conducted at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Campus and Tanjung Bundong village areas, Kota Samarahan, Sarawak starting from March 2015 until February 2017 to understand more on their call types. Call samples were recorded from 38 individuals of Magpie Robin (8 colour-ringed males, 6 colour-ringed females, 10 juveniles and 14 nestlings) during breeding seasons. A total of six call types were successfully identified which were territorial, threat, submissive, juvenile, distress and begging calls. Both territorial and threat calls are uttered in response to the presence of an intruder in the vicinity of nesting sites while begging call is crucial to the nestlings as it stimulates parental food provisioning activities. Distress call was uttered when in stress situations while juvenile calls were associated with learning process to vocalise. Territorial, threat and begging calls were substantially important during breeding season and the survival of Magpie Robins.

Background Advantages of translocation of recombinant proteins to the periplasm in Escherichia coli include simplified downstream processing, and improved folding and in vivo activity of the target protein. There are, however, problems encountered in the periplasmic production that can be associated with the incorrect formation of disulfide bonds, incomplete cleavage of the signal peptide, and proteolytic degradation. A common strategy used to overcome these difficulties involves manipulating the cellular levels of proteases and periplasmic folding assistants like chaperones, signal peptide peptidases or thiol-disulfide oxidoreductases. To date, this has been achieved by plasmid-based over-expression or knockouts of the relevant genes. Results We changed the translation efficiencies of five native E. coli proteins, DsbA, DsbB, Skp, SppA, and DegP, by modifying the strength of their ribosome binding sites (RBS). The genomic RBS sequences were replaced with synthetic ones that provided a predicted translation initiation rate. Single- and double-gene mutant strains were created and tested for production of two pharmaceutically relevant proteins, PelB-scFv173–2-5-AP and OmpA-GM-CSF. Almost all the single-gene mutant strains showed improved periplasmic production of at least one of the recombinant proteins. No further positive effects were observed when the mutations were combined. Conclusions Our findings confirm that our strain engineering approach involving translational regulation of endogenous proteins, in addition to plasmid-based methods, can be used to manipulate the cellular levels of periplasmic folding assistants and proteases to improve the yields of translocated recombinant proteins. The positive effects of SppA overexpression should be further investigated in E. coli.

Exosomes released by irradiated cells mediate the radiation-induced bystander effect, which is manifested by DNA breaks detected in recipient cells; yet, the specific mechanism responsible for the generation of chromosome lesions remains unclear. In this study, naive FaDu head and neck cancer cells were stimulated with exosomes released by irradiated (a single 2 Gy dose) or mock-irradiated cells. Maximum accumulation of gamma H2A.X foci, a marker of DNA breaks, was detected after one hour of stimulation with exosomes from irradiated donors, the level of which was comparable to the one observed in directly irradiated cells (a weaker wave of the gamma H2A.X foci accumulation was also noted after 23 h of stimulation). Exosomes from irradiated cells, but not from control ones, activated two stress-induced protein kinases: ATM and ATR. Noteworthy is that while direct irradiation activated only ATM, both ATM and ATR were activated by two factors known to induce the replication stress: hydroxyurea and camptothecin (with subsequent phosphorylation of gamma H2A.X). One hour of stimulation with exosomes from irradiated cells suppressed DNA synthesis in recipient cells and resulted in the subsequent nuclear accumulation of RNA:DNA hybrids, which is an indicator of impaired replication. Interestingly, the abovementioned effects were observed before a substantial internalization of exosomes, which may suggest a receptor-mediated mechanism. It was observed that after one hour of stimulation with exosomes from irradiated donors, phosphorylation of several nuclear proteins, including replication factors and regulators of heterochromatin remodeling as well as components of multiple intracellular signaling pathways increased. Hence, we concluded that the bystander effect mediated by exosomes released from irradiated cells involves the replication stress in recipient cells.

The protection of the natural environment and countering global warming are crucial worldwide issues. The residential sector has a significant impact on overall energy consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, it is extremely important to focus on all of the activities that can result in more energy efficient and sustainable city scale areas, preventing global warming. The highest improvement in the energy efficiency of existing buildings is possible by combining their deep refurbishment and the use of renewable energy sources (RES), where solar energy appears to be the best for application in buildings. Modernizations that provide full electrification seem to be a trend towards providing modern, energy efficient and environmentally friendly, smart buildings. Moreover, switching from an analysis at the single building level to the district scale allows us to develop more sustainable neighborhoods, following the urban energy modelling (UEM) paradigm. Then, it is possible to use the energy cluster (EC) concept, focusing on energy-, environmental- and economic-related aspects of an examined region. In this paper, an actual Polish suburban district is examined using the home-developed TEAC software. The software is briefly described and compared with other computer codes applied for UEM. In this study, the examined suburban area is modernized, assuming buildings’ deep retrofitting, the application of RES and energy storage systems, as well as usage of smart metering techniques. The proposed modernizations assumed full electrification of the cluster. Moreover, the examined scenarios show potential electricity savings up to approximately 60%, as well as GHG emission reduction by 90% on average. It is demonstrated that the proposed approach is a valid method to estimate various energy- and environment-related issues of modernization for actual residential clusters.
