Consolidation and upgrades of accelerator equipment during the first long LHC shutdown period enabled particle collisions at energy levels almost twice higher compared to the first operational phase. Consequently, the software infrastructure providing vital information for machine operation and its optimisation needs to be updated to keep up with the challenges imposed by the increasing amount of collected data and the complexity of analysis. Current tools, designed more than a decade ago, have proven their reliability by significantly outperforming initially provisioned workloads, but are unable to scale efficiently to satisfy the growing needs of operators and hardware experts. In this paper we present our progress towards the development of a new workload-driven solution for LHC transient data analysis, based on identified user requirements. An initial setup and study of modern data storage and processing engines appropriate for the accelerator data analysis was conducted. A georeferenced database of the main flint-bearing formations of Southern France is currently being finalised. It offers a toolto all prehistorians that is essential for the development of studies regarding raw material circulation and selection criteria. This database results from the collaborative work of various actors involved in the optimisation of flint source determination. It groups together the results of their surveys — whether these are systematic or targeted — carried out in six regions (Aquitaine, Auvergne, Languedoc-Roussillon, Midi-Pyrénées, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Rhône-Alpes). This database also incorporates recent studies on registering the properties of palaeoenvironmental changes recognisable on flints. Each of the registered formations is catalogued in a simplifiedon all scales ranging from the geological formation to the microfacies of the sample. Each note is completed by geological and archaeological bibliographic references. This approach extends beyond data compilation and can be positioned within cognitive approaches of human/environmental interaction in the dynamic field related to the collection and distribution of the flint “geomaterial”. We have opted for a dynamic representation of each primary formation with regard to all the superficial formations which it provides. This new mapping shows the main primary and secondary flint-bearing formations not in the form of distinct unities but as stages of a palaeogeographic evolution. These successive states of residence of a same type of flint represent as many potential sources for raw-material collection. They make it possible to define dynamic polarities with regard to the distribution of genetic types (primary and subprimary sources) and of types of deposits (secondary sources). This approach requires partial reorganisation of the lithothecae. Indeed, once the distribution areas of each genetic type and its derivative have been mapped, the existing samples have to be attributed to the various routes that were evidenced. It is then possible to identify the domain exploited by prehistoric men by recognising on the archaeological flint objects the associations of characteristic stigmata stemming from the different stages of distribution routes of each geomaterial., Une base de données géoréférencées des principales formations à silex du Sud de la France est en cours de finalisation. Elle propose à tous les archéologues préhistoriens un outil indispensable au développement d’études portant sur la circulation des matières premières et sur les critères de leur sélection. Elle est le fruit d’un partenariat entre différents acteurs impliqués dans l’optimisation de la caractérisation de la provenance des silex. Elle regroupe les résultats de leurs prospections – systématiques ou ciblées – dans six régions (Aquitaine, Auvergne, Languedoc-Roussillon, Midi-Pyrénées, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Rhône-Alpes). Nous avons donc opté pour une représentation dynamique où chaque formation primaire est représentée en relation avec l’ensemble des formations superficielles dont il est le fournisseur. Il devient alors possible d’identifier le domaine exploité par l’homme en reconnaissant sur les objets archéologiques en silex les associations de stigmates caractéristiques des différentes étapes des itinéraires de distribution de chaque géomatière.

Que signifie l’investissement actuel pour une campagne chargée de réassurer nos identités ? Étant de plus en plus nombreux à être citadins, ne s’agit-il donc là pour nous que d’une nostalgie ? Les ethnologues, géographes et sociologues dont les travaux sont rassemblés dans ce volume montrent la complexité du phénomène. S’il est vrai que la patrimonialisation de la campagne peut parfois prendre çà et là des accents passéistes, il ne s’agit que d’un effet trompeur. Dans ces reconquêtes, il ne s’agit pas seulement pour les ruraux de témoigner des valeurs qui les ont fait tenir ; il s’agit aussi, pour une société toute entière (anciens et nouveaux habitants), de se réapproprier un bien commun à partir de projets tournés vers l’avenir. Une multitude d’acteurs - associations, élus, techniciens, agriculteurs, entreprises agroalimentaires, professionnels du tourisme ou de la culture - débattent, à travers la « mise en patrimoine » d’un territoire, d’un foie gras, d’une race domestique, d’un champagne ou d’un savoir-faire..., d’autres types de rapport au monde (à l’espace, au temps, à l’habiter, au corps...) qu’il convient d’instituer. Et, patrimoine ne rimant ni avec « folklore » ni avec fermeture sur soi, ces articles démontrent que, pour y réussir, ce sont les avis de ces acteurs qu’il convient, avant tout, de prendre en compte. Cet ouvrage est issu d’un programme de recherche collectif financé par la mission du Patrimoine ethnologique du ministère de la Culture en 1994 et 1995 et intitulé « Nouveaux usages de la campagne et patrimoine ». Il est le résultat d’une animation scientifique qui, outre les responsables de la présente publication, a mobilisé sous l’autorité de la mission du Patrimoine ethnologique de nombreuses personnalités de la recherche et de la valorisation des territoires ruraux. The Post Mortem service for CERNs accelerator complex stores and analyses transient data recordings of various equipment systems following certain events, like a beam dump or magnet quenches. The main purpose of this framework is to provide fast and reliable diagnostic to the equipment experts and operation crews to decide whether accelerator operation can continue safely or whether an intervention is required. While the Post Mortem System was initially designed to serve CERNs Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the scope has been rapidly extended to include as well External Post Operational Checks and Injection Quality Checks in the LHC and its injector complex. These new use cases impose more stringent time-constraints on the storage and analysis of data, calling to migrate the system towards better scalability in terms of storage capacity as well as I/O throughput. This paper presents an overview on the current service, the ongoing investigations and plans towards a scalable data storage solution and API, as well as the proposed strategy to ensure an entirely smooth transition for the current Post Mortem users., Proceedings of the 15th Int. International audience; Dégagée de la plupart de ses contrepouvoirs depuis la fin des années 1980, le projet politique néolibéral et les inégalités qu’il renforce paraissent aujourd’hui sans remède. Est-il si difficile de ne pas céder à la résignation ou, pire, à l’indifférence ? Les outils pour identifier ces inégalités, les expliquer et les dénoncer ne manquent pas. La pensée critique connaît, en France comme ailleurs, un formidable renouveau. Dans toutes les disciplines des sciences sociales, l’apport de nos aînés est revisité et enrichi de nouvelles propositions pour se confronter aux injustices contemporaines, qui semblent rendues acceptables par des manipulations intellectuelles et des ficelles de plus en plus grossières.L’espace est, comme le temps et l’argent, un redoutable allié des dominants. Accaparé, exproprié, spolié, marchandisé, financiarisé, surveillé, refusé, l’espace se révèle être, à toutes les échelles et dans toutes ses configurations, une excellente clef de lecture de la situation des dominés. Confinement, relégation, enfermement en sont les modalités extrêmes, mais bien d’autres, plus subtiles et moins visibles, contribuent à pérenniser des rapports de force à ce point asymétriques qu’il n’est de meilleur terme pour les qualifier que celui de domination. Mais l’espace est aussi l’allié des dominés engagés dans des processus de résistance, de contestation ou de lutte contre l’ordre du capitalisme néolibéral. Dotés de ressources propres, les dominés construisent aussi des stratégies, individuelles ou collectives, qui prennent appui dans l’espace et peuvent faire de ce dernier une ressource pour se faire entendre ou se rendre visible.Dans un contexte académique mondial dominé par les travaux anglophones, en particulier ceux de la géographie radicale, cet ouvrage entend présenter la manière dont les chercheurs et chercheuses francophones travaillant sur les questions spatiales analysent les rapports sociaux de domination, qu’ils soient de classe, de race, de sexe, autant de rapports sociaux qui ont un fondement matériel. Plusieurs entrées thématiques sont explorées, qui renvoient à des champs de recherche bien identifiés : la question urbaine, les études sur le genre, le sexe, la sexualité et l’intersectionnalité, la question des migrations et celle des populations marginalisées et, enfin, l’environnement. Cet ouvrage témoigne donc de la grande vivacité des travaux francophones, tout en réaffirmant l’utilité de penser l’espace dans la critique sociale.

During the last two years, CERNs Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and most of its equipment systems were upgraded to collide particles at an energy level twice higher compared to the first operational period between 2010 and 2013. System upgrades and the increased machine energy represent new challenges for the analysis of transient data recordings, which have to be both dependable and fast. With the LHC having operated for many years already, statistical and trend analysis across the collected data sets is a growing requirement, highlighting several constraints and limitations imposed by the current software and data storage ecosystem. The Large Hadron Collider powering systems have been tested and commissioned before to start the second run of physics production. This commissioning used for the first time analysis modules defined directly by system experts in an english-like domain specific language. In these modules, the experts defined assertions that the data generated by the powering tests must verify in order for the test to pass. These modules concerned 4 tests executed for more than 1000 systems. They allowed experts to identify issues that were hidden behind the repetitive manual analysis performed during the previous campaigns. This paper describes this first operational experience of the analysis modules, as well as the replay of all the previous campaign with them. It will also present a critical point of view on these modules to identify their drawbacks and the next step to improve this system., Proceedings of the 6th Int. The Controls software for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, with more than 150 millions lines of code, resides amongst the largest known code bases in the world. Industry has been applying agile software engineering techniques for decades now, and the advantages of these techniques can no longer be ignored to manage the code base for large projects within the accelerator community. Furthermore, CERN is a particular environment due to the high personnel turnover and manpower limitations, where applying agile processes can improve both, the codebase management as well as its quality. This paper presents the successful application of the agile software development process SCRUM for machine protection systems at CERN, the quality standards and infrastructure introduced together with the agile process as well as the challenges encountered to adapt it to CERN’s environment., Proceedings of the 5th Int. ¿Cuál es la razón de ser del proyecto urbanístico del “Gran París”? Oficialmente hacer frente a la competición mundial entre “ciudades-mundo”. Con una respuesta: la metropolización. ¿Qué encubre este concepto que va a la par, en el ámbito urbano, con el de globalización en el ámbito económico? Ha parecido interesante tomar del pensador crítico de lo urbano Henri Lefebvre algunas herramientas conceptuales para intentar poner a la luz lo que entraña este Gran París y prever su impacto probable en la vida de los habitantes. Desde luego, el contexto socio-histórico es muy distinto de aquel cuando H. Lefebvre criticaba la urbanizacion capitalista. El capitalismo ha cambiado: transnacionalización, financiarización, tecnologización y flexibilización. El Estado francés también ha cambiado: de centralizado, intervencionista y tecnocrático se ha vuelto decentralizado, dejando mucha iniciativa tanto al mercado a través del llamado partenariado público-privado como a las instancias locales elegidas. Politicamente, el poder monopolizado por la derecha ha dejado el sitio a un poder compartido con la “izquierda”. Sin embargo, a pesar de estas transformacones estructurales, el futuro tal como se vislumbra en el proyecto del Gran París parece bastante semejante a aquello programado y planificado por el Esquema Director de Ordenamiento et de Urbanismo de la Región Parisiense (SDAURP) de 1965. Con una diferencia: la escala mucho más ámplia de la expansión urbana. Asi se puede hacer resaltar la permanencia de los razgos sobresalientesque que H. Lefebvre había ya puesto en evidencia al estudiar les orientaciones urbanísticas en cuanto al porvenir de la capital francesa medio siglo antes, cuando el neocapitalismo no se había vuelto aún neo-liberalismo: la homogeneización, la fragmentación y la jeraquización del espacio urbano. Con un efecto sociológico y político aun mas obvio hoy día: la elitización creciente del derecho a la ciudad.

Our main objective is to study the impact of consumption externality like keeping of with the Joneses on the properties of long-run equilibrium in the two-sector optimal growth model. Does this consumption externality lead to a new mechanism of local indeterminacy and endogenous fluctuations? We will see that, in two-sector growth models with exogenous labor and without technological externalities, if the representative agent is able to give more value to his social status than his own consumption, this is the keys of a new mechanism for endogenous fluctuations. Moreover, by opposition with the other endogenous fluctuation mechanisms, we will see that this one doesn't need to have restriction on the factor intensity configuration of the consumption sector.

We propose to study the dynamic impact of adjustment costs in capital on the two sectors model with positive sector specific externalities. We proove that such costs are able to lead to endogenous fluctuations by financial transmission mechanism. Indeed, since adjustments costs are linked to the marginal Q of Tobin, the firm's investment decision depends on the gap between the true value of the assets of this firm and their market value. The marginal Q of Tobin is an indicator of this market value and when adjustment costs are sufficiently high they can interplay with sector-specific externalities to provide endogenous fluctuations. We can prove fluctuations and cycle arise for new configurations of capital intensity across sectors. Classically, in this model, these fluctuations take place with sufficiently high level of sector-specific externalities but only with capital intensity reversal across sector. When adjustment costs are considered, reversal is no longer necessary condition to endogenous fluctuations to arise. Moreover, we show that there exists a link between financial volatility, mesured by variations of the marginal Q of Tobin, and fluctuations.

The Accelerator complex at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) is composed of many systems which are required to function in a valid state to ensure safe beam operation. One key component of machine protection, the Beam Interlock System (BIS), was designed to interface critical systems around the accelerator chain, provide fast and reliable transmission of beam dump requests and trigger beam extraction in case of malfunctioning of equipment systems or beam losses. Numerous upgrades of accelerator and controls components during the Long Shutdown 1 (LS1) are followed by subsequent software updates that need to be thoroughly validated before the restart of beam operation in 2015. In parallel, the ongoing deployments of the BIS hardware in the PS booster (PSB) and the future LINAC4 give rise to new requirements for the related controls and monitoring software due to their fast cycle times. National audience; A query protein structure is compared with the VAST program to a database of target structures from the PDB (PDB40, list of protein structures having less than 40% of identical residues: 19 500 structures version 2011). The threshold of the VAST program is lowered in order to find the largest possible number of struc- tures having a local similarity with the query protein. The purpose of the web site is to define structural do- mains in the query protein using the recurrence of these locally similar substructures (http://genome.jouy.in- ra.fr/domire/). The list of matches is subsequently sorted according to two criteria: the number of aligned residues by VAST is at least 40% of the number of residues of the target, and 80% of the target length is aligned including gaps of non aligned residues if less than 40. Besides this list, a residue-residue alignment of the structural neighbour on the amino acid sequence of the query protein is provided together with a 3D view of their superposition. The object of this sorting is to help in detecting remote homologues and isolated protein structures matching the domain structures of a protein .

Cet ouvrage regroupe les communications au séminaire "Villes et Migrations" qui s'est tenu à l'I.R.Ε.M.A.M. en janvier 1988, dans le cadre de son programme de recherches sur les Migrations Internationales. L'opportunité de pouvoir proposer des interventions homogènes quant à l'espace étudié ainsi que le souci de mieux appréhender une certaine actualité régionale nous a conduit à centrer ce séminaire sur Marseille et sa région mais en enrichissant les analyses proposées de quelques exemples pris dans d'autres régions ou pays. Nous avons tenu, dans ce cadre, à privilégier les études de terrain et la réflexion sur la place des migrants dans l'articulation entre la communauté urbaine et le politique pris dans le sens de gestion de la cité.
