Abstract

In this study, the problem of iterative learning control for a class of non-linear switched systems with arbitrary switched rules is considered. It is assumed that the considered switched systems are operated during a finite-time interval repetitively, and then the iterative learning control scheme can be introduced. It is also shown that under some given conditions, the D-type iterative learning control law can guarantee the asymptotic convergence of the tracking error between the desired output and the actual output for the entire time interval through the iterative learning process. Two examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract

Triple‐negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive subtype of epithelial breast malignancy, and chemoresistance is the major obstacle for cancer therapy. TNBC is associated with a hypoxic phenotype, and hypoxia contributes to the chemoresistance in breast cancer. Transfer RNA‐derived fragments (tDRs) represent a new class of small noncoding RNAs that can be induced specifically by hypoxia. Here, we conducted a comparative analysis of the aberrant expression of tDRs in hypoxia‐treated TNBC cell lines through the use of high‐throughput sequencing technique. Quantitative real‐time polymerase chain reaction was used to validate the differently expressed tDRs between two samples. The results showed that tDR‐0009 [derived from transfer RNA (tRNA)Gly‐GCC‐1‐1] and tDR‐7336 (derived from tRNA Gly‐GCC‐1–2) were significantly upregulated when the SUM‐1315 cell lines were stimulated by hypoxia. Gene ontology (GO) and pathway analysis indicated that these two upregulated tDRs were mainly involved in maintenance of stem cell population and cellular response to interleukin (IL)‐6, which may be the underlying mechanism of hypoxia‐induced tDRs that facilitate the doxorubicin resistance in TNBC. The protein–protein interaction network for predicted target genes established by the STRING database manifested that tDR‐0009 (tDR‐7336) might be involved in the chemoresistance of TNBC via regulation of the activation of phosphorylation of STAT3. In summary, our study provided a comprehensive analysis of the deviant expression profiling of tDRs in hypoxia‐treated TNBC cell lines. Specific tDRs may be a new class of regulatory factors involved in the hypoxia‐induced chemoresistance in TNBC, and they could serve as potential biomarkers and intervention targets. Abstract

This paper considers the stability of high-order PID-type iterative learning control law for a class of nonlinear switched systems with state delays and arbitrary switched rules, which perform a given task repeatedly. The stability condition for the proposed high-order learning control law is first established, and then the stability is analyzed based on contraction mapping approach in the sense ofλnorm. It is shown that the proposed iterative learning control law can guarantee the asymptotic convergence of the tracking error for the entire time interval through the iterative learning process. Two examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract

Placenta‐specific protein 1 (Plac1) is a cancer/testis antigen that plays a critical role in promoting cancer initiation and progression. However, the clinical significance and mechanism of Plac1 in cancer progression remain elusive. Here, we report that Plac1 is an important oncogenic and prognostic factor, which physically interacts with Furin to drive breast cancer invasion and metastasis. We have shown that Plac1 expression positively correlates with clinical stage, lymph node metastasis, hormone receptor status, and overall patient survival. Overexpression of Plac1 promoted invasion and metastasis of breast cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. Co‐immunoprecipitation and immunofluorescence cell staining assays revealed that interaction of Plac1 and Furin degraded Notch1 and generated Notch1 intracellular domain (NICD) that could inhibit PTEN activity. These findings are consistent with the results of microarray study in MDA‐MB‐231 cells overexpressing Plac1. A rescue study showed that inhibition of Furin and overexpression of PTEN in Plac1 overexpression cells blocked Plac1‐induced tumor cell progression. Taken together, our findings suggest that functional interaction between Plac1 and Furin enhances breast cancer invasion and metastasis and the Furin/NICD/PTEN axis may act as an important therapeutic target for breast cancer treatment. 191. Heat and water transfers for the frost heave behavior of freezing graded soil.

Abstract

Heat and water transfers for the frost heave behavior of freezing graded soil as affected by fine content, cooling temperature, and water supply were investigated in this study. Results showed that, the total frost heave mainly came from the external water supply, and higher fine content and lower cooling temperature led to higher frost heave and more water intake (e.g., 14.62 mm and 186.48 ml for sample under −7.5 °C with 50% fine content). The sample experienced shorter temperature cooling stage with higher fine content (e.g., 8.7 h for sample with 50% fine content), and longer temperature cooling stage under lower cooling temperature (e.g., 13.2 h for sample under −7.5 °C). Higher fine content and lower cooling temperature resulted in higher maximum volumetric water content above the frozen fringe (e.g., 52.33% and 55.63% for samples under −5 °C and − 7.5 °C with 50% fine content, respectively). The thickness of visible ice lenses was proportional to the frost heave and "invisible" ice lenses contributed more to the frost heave. Theoretical predictions of frost heave based on the modified formula showed good agreement with the experiment results with relative error of 2.7%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
