auDeep is a Python toolkit for deep unsupervised representation learning from acoustic data. It is based on a recurrent sequence to sequence autoencoder approach which can learn representations of time series data by taking into account their temporal dynamics. We provide an extensive command line interface in addition to a Python API for users and developers, both of which are comprehensively documented and publicly available at https://github.com/auDeep/auDeep. Experimental results indicate that auDeep features are competitive with state-of-the art audio classification.

In May 2014 the 1st superconducting photo injector (SRF gun) at HZDR was replaced by a new gun, featuring a new resonator and cryostat. The intention for this upgrade was to reach higher beam energy, higher bunch charge and lower emittance at the same time in order to serve user experiments at the superconducting CW accelerator ELBE. In this contribution we will report on the commissioning of the SRF gun by presenting a full set of RF performance results.

Ultrashort flashes of THz light with low photon energies of a few meV, but strong electric or magnetic field transients have recently been employed to prepare various fascinating nonequilibrium states in matter. Here we present a new class of sources based on superradiant enhancement of radiation from relativistic electron bunches in a compact electron accelerator that we believe will revolutionize experiments in this field. Our prototype source generates high-field THz pulses at unprecedented quasicontinuous- wave repetition rates up to the MHz regime. We demonstrate parameters that exceed state-of-the-art laser-based sources by more than 2 orders of magnitude. The peak fields and the repetition rates are highly scalable and once fully operational this type of sources will routinely provide 1 MV/cm electric fields and 0.3 T magnetic fields at repetition rates of few 100 kHz. We benchmark the unique properties by performing a resonant coherent THz control experiment with few 10 fs resolution.

With the improved parameters first user experiments of the superconducting CW accelerator ELBE are to be served, that benefit from an increased average beam current at a given repetition rate of some hundred kHz. Although the cavity performance stays behind its specifications (Ecath~12 MV/m), beam commissioning is underway. In order to lower the risk of particle contamination and to get enough robustness against vacuum events in this early stage, we started with a laser cleaned magnesium cathode (QE~1e-3) instead of our standard Cs2Te cathode. In this contribution we will report on detailed parameter measurements of the electron beam that has a repetition rate of 100 kHz and a bunch charge up to 300 pC.

ELBE, the superconducting Electron Linac with high Brilliance and low Emittance (ELBE) is providing an average beam current of 1 mA at a maximum beam energy up to 40 MeV for more than a decade to its users. The electrons are used to generate THz radiation, infrared light (Free Electron Lasers), X-rays (electron channeling) and MeV-bremsstrahlung as well as fast neutrons and positrons for semiconductor physics, nuclear astrophysics and radio biological investigations and many more. An integral part of the accelerator is the compact 20 MeV superconducting LINAC module for CW operation that has been designed and built at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf more than 15 years ago. Very recently, an upgraded version was taken into operation and thus we will report on design improvements to reduce heating, material selection and demagnetization to ensure magnetic hygiene as well as on RF conditioning of the CW couplers. Additionally, module parameters such as static heat load, tuner resolution, microphonics, pressure sensitivity, Lorentz force detuning and intrinsic quality factor vs. electric field will be discussed.

An improved SRF gun (ELBE SRF gun II) has been installed and commissioned at HZDR. This new gun replaced the first SRF gun of the ELBE accelerator which had been in operation since 2007. The new gun has an improved 3.5-cell niobium cavity those SRF performances have been studied first with a copper cathode. After the replacement by our standard Cs2Tecathode we observed a tremendous degradation of the cavity gradient paired with an increase of field emission. In this contribution we will report on our in-situ investigations to find the origin and the reason for the particle contamination that happened during the first cathode transfer.

Despite all the efforts made in the areas of intensive care and surgery, severe peritonitis remains a feared condition that is associated with a high mortality rate. Severe abdominal infections are acccompanied with a high level of endotoxin production, resulting in the so called systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), which is often complicated by multiple organ failure. The surgical eradication of the infectious focus is the most important prerequisite for a successful treatment. According to the severity of the local inflammation, different forms of abdominal lavage can be applied. We analysed patient characteristics and the clinical outcome of 180 patients with diffuse peritonitis, including 36 patients with more than 29 MPI-Points. The mean severity of peritonitis (n = 36) was 33 using the Mannheim Peritonitis Index (MPI). The hospital mortality rate was 58% in this group.

Bleeding and perforation are rare but dangerous complications of diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP and endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST). To evaluate the clinical outcome of patients treated for complicated EST in our surgical department, data were collected prospectively between 1/1995 and 3/2000. A total of 9 patients were admitted to our department, 7 women and 2 men, average age 60 (range 41-72) years. 5 patients were treated for severe hemorrhage, all of them underwent laparotomy following duodenotomy and oversewing of the sphincterotomy site. In average 10 hours (range 4-20) after endoscopy. One of these patients died due to multiple organ failure. In 4 additional patients a retroperitoneal perforation was discovered, 2 of these patients underwent laparotomy and drainage of the retroperitoneal cavity. The other two patients were sufficiently treated by percutaneous drainage. One of the patients, who underwent surgical drainage for retroperitoneal perforation died. In conclusion for severe hemorrhage duodenotomy and oversewing of the bleeding site is recommended in combination with common bile duct T-drain or other draining procedures. The treatment for perforation should depend on the clinical finding. A laparotomy seems not always to be necessary.
