Abstract

Presentamos aquí un experimento preliminar donde se estudia la reacción (α,³He n) sobre blancos de ²⁰⁸Pb y ⁹⁰Zr a Eα= 30 MeV/n. Se investiga el decaimiento por neutrones de los estados de partícula independiente localizados entre 5 y 25 MeV de energía de excitación del ²⁰⁹Pb y ⁹¹Zr. Los ³He emergentes fueron detectados alrededor de 0° en el plano focal del espectrógrafo QDDM. Los neutrones en coincidencia fueron medidos entre 55 y 168° por medio de 16 centelladores líquidos del multidetector EDEN., Facultad de Ciencias Exactas

Abstract

Truth and fiction on the Net Yannick Maignien The Internet and the World Wide Web are often praised for their prodigious informational power, but criticised at the same time for the difficulty of determining the veracity of information obtained. The present article attempts to reflect on the necessity of moving beyond this contradiction. With the advent of the Web, fundamental questions regarding the relation of language to the world are once again at stake. Thus, relationships of reference, denotation, veridiction, symbolic denotation and fiction, proposed by logical and analytic philosophy, should be increasingly employed. Moreover, the patterns of human behaviour underlying the Web could be more accurately analysed using pragmatic theories, in order to integrate procedural metadata. Finally, the question of the emergence of fictional or “possible” worlds within the Web heuristic seems essential if we hope to move beyond the error/truth dichotomy. Automatic linguistic tools (metalanguage, RDF syntax) must take into account richer logical dimensions than those currently envisaged. Date of publication: 25 November 2002

Abstract

The 12C(α,γ)16O reaction plays an important role in helium burning in massive stars and their evolution. However, despite many experimental studies, the low-energy cross section of 12C(α,γ)16O still highly uncertain. The extrapolation of the measured cross sections to stellar energies (E∼300 keV) is made difficult by the presence of the two sub-threshold states at 6.92 and 7.12 MeV of 16O. In order to further investigate the contribution of these two-subthreshold resonances to the 12C(α,γ)16O cross section, we performed a new determination of the α -reduced widths via a measurement of the transfer reaction 12C(7Li,t)16O at two incident energies, 34 and 28 MeV. The measured and calculated differential cross sections will be presented as well as the obtained spectroscopic factors and the α -reduced widths. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The reaction 13C(α,n)16O is considered as the main neutron source for s-process in low-mass asymptotic giant branch stars. At low energies of astrophysical interest, the contribution of the subthreshold state 6.356 MeV of 17O to the 13C(α,n)16O cross section should be taken into account. However, the results of previous studies of this contribution lead to different conclusions. Hence, we investigated the effect of this resonance on the astrophysical S-factor through a new precise measurement of the alpha spectroscopic factor, Sα, of the 6.356 MeV state using the transfer reaction 13C(7Li,t)17O at two different incident energies. The measured angular distributions and the obtained spectroscopic factors will be presented as well as their impact on C(α,n)16O cross section and reaction rate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The structure of the neutron-rich nucleus 47Ar has been investigated through the d(46Ar,47Ar)p transfer reaction. The radioactive beam of 46Ar at 10 A · MeV was provided by the SPIRAL facility at GANIL. The protons corresponding to a neutron pick-up on bound or unbound states mechanism in 47Ar nuclei were detected at backward angles by the position-sensitive Si array-detector MUST. The transfer-like ejectiles were detected in the SPEG spectrometer. Level scheme, spin assignments and spectroscopic factors have been deduced for 47Ar and compared to shell model predictions. They suggest a slight erosion of the N=28 shell gap from the weakening of the spin-orbit interaction arising from the f and p orbitals. These spectroscopic information are subsequently used to infer (n, γ) reaction rates in the Ar isotopic chain to understand the origin of the 48Ca/46Ca abnormal isotopic ratio observed in certain inclusions of meteorites. Abstract

Experimental signatures of the dynamical correlations of a core with a single-particle neutron have been found in light neutron-rich nuclei investigated via the (7Li,7Be)c harge-exchange reactions at around 8MeV/u. Of particular astrophysical relevance are low-lying narrow resonances (Γ ∼ 200 keV FWHM) BSEC (Bound States Embedded in the Continuum). Because of their long lifetime BSEC states are likely to effect the capture rates in any scenario for nucleosynthesis in neutron-rich environment. They have been observed in the continuum of 11Be and 15C nuclei. A microscopic nuclear structure model based on QRPA theory, which takes into account Dynamical Core Polarisation (DCP) correlations, gives a suitable description of these resonances as well as single-particle states of the studied systems. In this context, high-energy narrow structures populated in nuclei having an integer number of α-particles plus three neutrons are good BSEC candidates and can be systematically investigated. Abstract

In order to search for low energy El strength, Coulomb excitation of the neutron rich nucleus 26Ne was studied at RIKEN Accelerator Research Facility. A 58 MeV/A secondary beam of 26Ne impinged on lead and aluminum target. In this complete kinematics measurement, we measured the energy and position of the charged fragments with a silicon strip/Si(Li) telescope, and the neutrons resulting from the decay of 26Ne with a multi-element plastic wall. The photons which can be emitted from excited states are detected using a 4π NaI array. The analysis is still in progress but it so far shows strength between 8 and 10 MeV excitation energy that can be related to a pygmy dipole resonance. © 2005 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
