The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of composting municipal solid waste and agro-waste and the effects of initial C/N ratios of 35/1, 28/1 and 25/1 using 0%, 18% and 28% recalcitrant bulking agent during the composting process and in the final compost. Parameters such as thermal and exothermic profile, losses of organic matter and nitrogen, pH, electrical conductivity and C/N ratio were evaluated during the composting process. The quality of the organic compost was evaluated through the germination test and Brazilian normative instructions. The losses of organic matter were adjusted to a first order kinetic equation and the cluster analysis was applied to assess the similarity between the piles. Temperatures necessary for the elimination of pathogens were reached in all piles. The duration of the thermophilic phase doubled (49 days) in a pile with the initial C/N ratio of 35/1 without recalcitrant bulking agent. In the piles with initial C/N ratios of 28/1 and 25/1 and the addition of 18% and 28% recalcitrant bulking agent, thermal peaks (68 to 72 C) were achieved more quickly (4 to 5 days) and the degradation of organic matter was more intense (0.071 to 0.173 d-1). The organic composts obtained did not present phytotoxicity (germination index > 90%). Composting proved to be viable for the treatment of solid waste in a centralized way and the C/N ratio of 25/1 combined with 28% recalcitrant bulking agent ensured more significant degradation and better quality of the compost.

This article proposes an analysis of Trilogy of terror, a Brazilian horror anthology film released in 1968. The movie has three independent stories linked to the universe of genre cinema and directed by São Paulo filmmakers who were beginning to become popular among audiences and critics: Ozualdo Candeias, Luis Sérgio Person and José Mojica Marins. The first two chose to use horror elements to create allegories that represented Brazilian society at the time – in years of Military Dictatorship and strong behavioral changes. The result is a very unique cinematic experience.

The definition of the best alternative for the treatment of sewage must consider the multiple aspects related to the local situation. The diversity of technologies associated with the high number of variables makes decision-making difficult. In this way, the present study developed a multicriteria decision aid methodology capable of prioritizing solutions for the treatment of wastewater, analyzing the economic, technical, social and environmental dimensions. The method considered the feasible alternatives, after the economic feasibility study, supported by the Net Present Value (NPV) and Annualized Net Present Value (ANPV) indicators. Then, the main criteria identified in the literature were submitted to expert evaluation. Subsequently, multicriteria modeling based on the Elimination and Choice Translating Algorithm(ELECTRE-TRI) and Technique for Order of Preference by Similarityto Ideal Solution(TOPSIS) methods was used in the case study of the hydrographic basin of Rio Paracatu (MG). In this area, the results obtained indicate that the technologies of slow infiltration and fast infiltration are the preferred options for small cities, while the option with the worst performance was the UASB reactor followed by runoff. In addition, in urban centers, the options indicated are the anaerobic lagoon followed by the optional one and the UASB reactor with anaerobic filter. In contrast, the Australian system followed by a high rate lagoon was contraindicated. It is concluded, therefore, the relevance of multicriteria models as an institutional tool for the management of sewage treatment systems.

Background: Current pacemakers allow for the continuous recording of the occurrence of arrhythmic events. One of the most frequent arrhythmias after implantation of a device is atrial fibrillation (AF), an important risk factor for embolic events. The frequency of this arrhythmia in pacemaker patients has not been widely studied. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence, incidence, and predictors of the occurrence of AF in patients with double-chamber pacemakers and without a history of atrial fibrillation prior to implantation. Methods: A dynamic, retrospective, and prospective cohort study was carried out with 186 patients undergoing biannual follow-up of the double-chamber pacemaker, without previous AF, in a single service, between 2016 and 2018. Clinical data were collected from the medical records and the telemetry of the device and the prevalence, incidence rate, relative risk by univariate analysis (by chi-square), and risk ratio were calculated by multivariate analysis (by Cox regression); values of p

Geography, Planning and Development ,Development - Abstract

Composite resins are used in Dentistry to perform direct aesthetic restorations, and are a material whose properties can be influenced by the diet of the individual, especially in the face of the action of beverages with acid pH, such as energy drinks. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of two energy beverages on the chemical composition of a nanoparticulate composite resin, at two-time intervals. Filtek Z350XT (3M/ESPE) composite resin was used to produce thirty-six specimens (discs) of 6.0mm x 1.5mm dimensions. The specimens were initially immersed in distilled water for 24h at 37ºC and then randomly divided into two groups (n=18); according to the immersion time: 1 month (T1) and 3 months (T2); and in three subgroups (n=6) referring to immersion solutions: distilled water (control) and two energy beverages (RedBull and Monster). The inorganic composition of the specimens was measured by a spectrometry. The data were submitted to two-way ANOVA and Tukey tests. The main inorganic elements of this restorative material were respectively: zirconium (Zr), silicon (Si) and calcium (Ca), which reduced its percentage after immersion time. RedBull was the most active solution, promoting losses of the mineral Si after 1 month of immersion, of Zr, after 3 months, and of Ca after 1 month and after 3 months. Monster influenced losses only in Si, after 1 month. Distilled water did not induce significant losses. Thus, the two energy beverages reduced the inorganic percentage of the nanoparticulate composite resin evaluated in this research.

In a highly competitive environment among companies, standardization of processes has been one of the means to reduce errors, defects, and costs. Thus, the objective of this study is to investigate what is the best standard with parameters to be applied to the manufacture of corrugated cardboard in a company in the Industrial Pole of Manaus (PIM), aiming to reduce the number of wastes from this process. The data were collected from the production management system of company X and analyzed through brainstorming with the employees of the studied process. At the end of the research it was concluded that the parameters that most influence the generation of approximately 9 types of scrap are: (a) Temperature of the cover and core; b) Press pressure; c) Corrugate pressure; d) Glue crack; e) Pressure of the coil door brakes. To reduce factory waste, a standardized list was proposed containing the parameters for each composition, observing the peculiarities of this production process.

This study aimed to evaluate the use of protein hydrolysate of poultry by-product and swine liver in the diet of Litopenaeus vannamei and its effect on the intestinal microbiota and on the enzymatic activity of the hepatopancreas. Shrimp (10.94 ± 0.90 g) were fed with diets containing 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of replacement of salmon by-product meal by protein hydrolysate, in triplicate. The hepatopancreas enzymatic activity and composition of intestinal microbiota was studied. It was observed that the protein hydrolysate in the diet changed the enzymatic activity of the shrimp when compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Amylase activity increases directly with the percent of protein replacement in the diet. Metagenomic analysis revealed change in the gut biome of the shrimps. The increasing levels of protein replacement provided greater richness in the 75% and 100% treatments, were mainly related to changes in the abundances in the families Rhodobacteraceae and Flavobacteriaceae. A reduction in the abundance of the Vibrionaceae family was observed with the inclusion of protein hydrolysate in the diet. These results indicate that the protein hydrolysate demonstrated beneficial changes when added at concentrations of 25% in the diet of L. vannamei.

Photography and photogrammetry have recently become among the most widespread and preferred visualisation methods for the representation of small objects and artefacts. People want to see the past, not only know about it; and the ability to visualise objects into virtually realistic representations is fundamental for researchers, students and educators. Here, we present two new methods, the ‘Small Object and Artefact Photography’ (‘SOAP’) and the ‘High Resolution “DIY” Photogrammetry’ (‘HRP’) protocols. The ‘SOAP’ protocol involves the photographic application of modern digital techniques for the representation of any small object. The ‘HRP’ protocol involves the photographic capturing, digital reconstruction and three-dimensional representation of small objects. These protocols follow optimised step-by-step explanations for the production of high-resolution two- and three-dimensional object imaging, achievable with minimal practice and access to basic equipment and softwares. These methods were developed to allow anyone to easily and inexpensively produce high-quality images and models for any use, from simple graphic visualisations to complex analytical, statistical and spatial analyses. Residents of large urban centers are daily exposed to urban noise pollution, especially to noise generated by traffic of vehicles. Environmental noise may harm the environment and the population's quality of life. Therefore, studies that aim to reduce the effects of noise pollution are extremely relevant. In urban divisions, there must be spaces between or in buildings to ensure access for people and vehicles. However, regarding sound transmission, these spaces are considered "weak points" as they ease the passage of urban noise to other spaces that have housing. Thus, this study, carried out in the city of Stuttgart/Germany, evaluates the influence of urban spaces called tunnel and canyon on the transmission of traffic noise to residential facades posterior to these spaces. Two locations were selected: the first with the presence of a tunnel-like space and the second with a canyon-like space. Through measurements and acoustic simulations, the current sound environment of the places was measured. In acoustic simulations, variations of geometric aspects and sound absorption coefficients of the internal surfaces of open spaces were also considered. The results show that the dimensions of open spaces are significant in sound transmission, especially the parameters width and height. The data also show that the installation of coatings with sound absorption on the internal surfaces of spaces is a viable measure from a technical point of view, as it resulted in an attenuation of up to 22 dB(A) on posterior facades.

Freedom is an important fundamental right, foreseen in the Federal Constitution of 1988, which can only be affected in the exhaustive hypotheses described by the Constitution itself. However, in relation to the military police, freedom suffers serious violations, without observing the constitutionally stipulated parameters. These are disciplinary punishments, which restrict the freedom of military police officers through administrative means, without any provision in the law. In addition, there are several aspects of these measures that indicate their inadequacy in relation to the current constitutional order, both formal and material. In any case, the law nº 13.967/2019 introduces important changes in this context, with the objective of extinguishing the private measures of freedom, making sure that in fact the fundamental right to freedom of military police is respected.

This paper reports the evaluation of digestibility, immunological parameters, and resistance to thermal shock at low temperature in Litopenaeus vannamei fed diets with diferent Aurantiochytrium sp. meal additions (0; 0.5; 1 and 2%). First, the apparent digestibility coefficient of the ingredient was determined. The digestibility of the microalgae meal was high for protein (74.90%); around 60% for lipids, and for docosahexaenoic fatty acid (DHA) it was 55.61%. After, shrimp rearing with the feed additive was carried out in a clear water system, containing 25 shrimp (initial weight: 4.89 ± 0.27 g) per 400 L tank. Feeding occurred four times a day. After a three-week period, immunological parameters were evaluated and thermal shock was performed. Animals fed 0.5% and 2% of the microalgae Aurantiochytrium sp. showed higher survival to thermal shock. In immunological analyses, the serum agglutiniting titer was higher (p

The present study evaluated the use of the indigenous probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum and commercial probiotic containing Bacillus spp. in the culture of L. vannamei in a biofloc system. Shrimp were fed with four diets: L. plantarum, Bacillus spp., L. plantarum + Bacillus spp. and feed with no additives. Growth performance, water quality variables and microbiological counting of water and digestive tract of shrimp were determined. The control group and L. plantarum treatment showed better growth performance. The highest feed conversion ratio (FCR) and the lowest survival were obtained in the L. plantarum + Bacillus spp. treatment, which had significantly higher nitrite values. Vibrio spp. counts in the water were lower in the L. plantarum and L. plantarum + Bacillus spp. treatments and were lower in the intestinal tract in the L. plantarum treatment. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) was higher in the L. plantarum treatment in the water and digestive tract. The count of total heterotrophic bacteria (THB) deferred only among Bacillus spp. and L. plantarum + Bacillus spp. treatment, being higher in the latter group. In Bacillus spp. treatment, no presence of LAB was detected in the water or intestinal tract. We conclude that the use of L. plantarum combined with Bacillus spp. negatively affected survival, FCR and water quality, but that the use of L. plantarum alone reduced the presence of Vibrio spp., even though it did not change the growth performance of L. vannamei.

This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro effect of carvacrol on different microorganisms of importance in shrimp farming, as well as its in vivo effect on zootechnical, immunological and microbiological performance, as well as resistance, of Litopenaeus vannamei challenged with Vibrio parahaemolyticus. In particular, the antimicrobial activity of carvacrol was evaluated in vitro by analysis of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and by agar diffusion disc with Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. The in vivo experiment was conducted using different concentrations of carvacrol (1, 3, 4 and 6 mg mL-1) added to shrimp feed, together with a control diet without carvacrol. After four weeks, zootechnical, immunological and microbiological parameters, as well as resistance, of animals challenged with V. parahaemolyticus were evaluated. The MIC of Vibrio alginolyticus and Vibrio harveyi was 0.078 mg mL-1, while for the other bacteria, it was 0.156 mg mL-1 of carvacrol. The greatest halos of inhibition were observed in V. parahaemolyticus and Vibrio harveyi with significant differences demonstrated for the other microorganisms, except Escherichia coli. The in vivo results showed no significant differences among treatments. In conclusion, the antimicrobial activity of carvacrol was confirmed with Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, and it is suggested that its antimicrobial potential is more effective against Vibrio spp. However, the concentrations of carvacrol used in vivo did not affect the parameters evaluated.

Soil impermeabilization, the reduction of green areas, the absence of maintenance in sewers and the lack of palliative measures relating to high levels of precipitation have caused countless cases of floods. Therefore, It is of paramount importance to know the levels of precipitation in order to produce proper urban planning. The city of Curitiba-PR had 13 floods in March 2021, that is, the problem is still recurrent. Thus, a neural network method was applied from 2010 to 2020 in the city of Curitiba, Brazil with the intent of predicting the risk of floods by using precipitation data and numbers of flooded streets throughout the period. The neural network used was Feed Forward, in which the processing occurs from the input layer towards the output layer, without feedback. And to train the network, a standard Bayesian reverse propagation regularization algorithm was used, which minimizes the linear combinations. For the precipitation statistics it was used data from National Meteorological Institute (INMET) and for the flooded streets statistics it was used data from the Civil Defense of Curitiba. It was observed that by the use of seven neurons the coefficient of determination (R²) was significantly higher, producing the number of 0,9829 as the prevision of flooded streets. Twelve neural networks were tested to predict flooded streets in one year, with R² greater than 0.95 in all networks. Therefore, with the use of neural networks it was possible to predict the risk of floods in relation to the precipitation levels.

With technological advances in several research areas of science, it is becoming increasingly common to use computer programs to solve problems. Some of these programs are based on statistical analysis and simulation of reality, such as the Monte Carlo Method (MC). The MC is a statistical tool widely used in different areas of knowledge, as a resource for simulating events that involve from financial assessments to the interaction of radiation with matter. Thereby, surveys with radiation sources, for example, are constantly evolving to study the question of radiation protection. In this sense, this paper has as main objective to verify the relevance of the MC for the area of radiation protection, analyzing the studies that apply the method in the Postgraduate Program (PPG) in Radiation Protection and Dosimetry of Institute of Radiation Protection and Dosimetry (IRD). This is because it is understood thatthrough the application of Scientific Knowledge Management (SKM) the construction of knowledge happens through an exchange of scientific information, that is, exchange of relevant contents that help in the preservation of knowledge. In this sense, a bibliometric analysis of the dissertations and theses deposited in Brazilian bank was made using the search term "Monte Carlo" and its respective programs (PENELOPE, GEANT4, EGSnrc, MCNP and Visual Monte Carlo), to be found in the title, abstract or keywords. With the identification of works carried out in all areas of concentration of the PPG, it is understood that the MC is extremely relevant for studies in the area of radiation protection.
