154. Analytical solution for estimating the minimum required strength of sill mat by considering failure due to rock wall closure

Abstract

Underhand cut-and-fill mining has been widely used in underground mining operations, especially when the rock mass or orebody is of poor quality or prone to rockburst due to high stress. In such cases, mining workers should carry out all production activities under the cemented backfill roof or sill mat instead of a highly fractured and unstable rock roof or a strong rock roof with a high potential of rockburst. Therefore, the stability and required strength of the sill mat are critical issues for mining engineers. In 1991, Mitchell considered that sill mat could fail by caving, sliding, rotation, and flexure. Mitchell also proposed an analytical solution to determine the minimum required strength of the sill mat for each type of failure based on two stiff or immobile rock walls. However, recent publications using numerical modeling and field measurements indicate that the compressive stresses in the sill mat induced by rock wall closure due to a stope excavation beneath the sill mat can be significant. It is thus highly necessary to investigate the required strength of the sill mat by considering rock wall closure. In this study, the crushing failure of sill mat due to rock wall closure generated by underground excavation and a new failure mode called "crushing and caving” is revealed by numerical modeling. An analytical solution corresponding to each failure mode is then developed to estimate the minimum required cohesion (cmin) of the sill mat. A criterion is also proposed to determine if the sill mat fails by crushing or crushing-and-caving failure. The proposed analytical solution does not involve any correction coefficients. The validity of the proposed analytical solution is demonstrated by numerical modeling. The proposed analytical solution can thus be employed to predict the cminof sill mat subjected to wall closure generated by underlying stope excavation.

Abstract

The switch cabinet is one of the most important and complex electrical devices in the power grid, and it is a key hub in the operating process of an electric power system. In allusion to the issue of switch cabinet status evaluation, the author of this thesis established a secondary assessment structure for the switch cabinet, and proposed a status evaluation method based on edge computing and dynamic evidence theory. The method of edge computing was introduced into the data input layer, to improve the data communication efficiency, and the online test data were entered into the evaluation index layer. Further, the cloud membership was entered via the cloud model to conduct evaluation of D-S evidence theory. The dynamic weight value was introduced at the first evaluation layer as the optimization degree to conduct dynamic correction for mass function, and the maximum trust degree was set as the evaluation decision rule to output the evaluation results. At the second layer, D-S evidence theory evaluation was conducted again according to the output results of the first layer, and the evaluation results of the second layer were treated as the overall evaluation results of the switch cabinet. Finally, status evaluation on the switch cabinet of an electric field in the southwest was chosen as an example to verify the validity of the evaluation algorithm proposed in this thesis.

Abstract

Background: Temporal interference (TI) stimulation is a new technique of noninvasive brain stimulation. Envelope-modulated waveforms with two high-frequency carriers can activate neurons in target brain regions without stimulating the overlying cortex, which has been validated in mouse brains. However, whether TI stimulation can work on the human brain has not been elucidate. Objective: To assess the effectiveness and safety aspect of the envelope-modulated waveform of TI stimulation on human primary motor cortex (M1). Methods: Participants attended three sessions of 30-min TI stimulation at 2 mA during a random reaction time task (RRTT) or a serial reaction time task (SRTT). Motor cortex excitability was measured before and after TI stimulation. Results: In the RRTT experiment, only 70 Hz TI stimulation had a promoting effect on the reaction time (RT) performance and excitability of the motor cortex compared to sham stimulation. Meanwhile, compared with the sham condition, only 20 Hz TI stimulation significantly facilitated motor learning in the SRTT experiment, which was significantly positively correlated with the increase in motor evoked potential. Conclusion: These results indicate that the envelope-modulated waveform of TI stimulation has a significant promoting effect on human motor functions, experimentally suggesting the effectiveness of TI stimulation in humans for the first time and pave the way for further explorations.

Abstract

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are known to drive the pathogenesis of colorectal cancer (CRC) via the regulation of cancer stem cells (CSCs). We studied the miRNA expression profile of primary CSCs isolated from patients with CRC (pCRCSCs). Compared to pCRCSC-derived differentiated cells, 98 differentially expressed miRNAs were identified in pCRCSCs. Target genes encoding pCRCSC-related miRNAs were identified using a combination of miRNA target databases and miRNA-mRNA regulatory networks from the same patient. The pCRCSC-related miRNA target genes were associated with pathways contributing to malignant phenotypes, including I-kappa B kinase/NF-kappa B signaling, signal transduction by p53 class mediator, Ras signaling, and cGMP-PKG signaling. The pCRCSC-related miRNA expression signature was independently associated with poor overall survival in both the training and validation cohorts. 176. Prognostic Heterogeneity of MRE11 Based on the Location of Primary Colorectal Cancer Is Caused by Activation of Different Immune Signals

Abstract

Background: MRE11 plays an important role in DNA damage response for the maintenance of genome stability, and is becoming a prognostic marker for cancers, including colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the correlations of MRE11 to prognosis and tumor-infiltrating inflammatory cells (TIICs) in different locations of CRC remains unclear. Methods: Among Swedish and TCGA-COREAD patients, we investigated the association of MRE11 expression, tumor-infiltrating inflammatory cells (TIICs) and microsatellite status with survival in right-sided colon cancer (RSCC) and left-sided colon and rectal cancer (LSCRC). The signaling of MRE11-related was further analyzed using weighted gene co-expression network analysis and ClueGO. Results: High MRE11 expression alone or combination of high MRE11 expression with high TIICs was related to favorable prognosis in LSCRC. Moreover, high MRE11 expression was associated with favorable prognosis in LSCRC with microsatellite stability. The relationships above were adjusted for tumor stage, differentiation, and/or TIICs. However, no such evidence was observed in RSCC. Several signaling pathways involving MRE11 were found to be associated with cell cycle and DNA repair in RSCC and LSCRC, whereas, the activation of the immune response and necrotic cell death were specifically correlated with LSCRC. Abstract

Background: Stem CO2 efflux (ES) plays a critical role in the carbon budget of forest ecosystems. Thinning is a core practice for sustainable management of plantations. It is therefore necessary and urgent to study the effect and mechanism of thinning intensity (TI) on ES. Methods: In this study, five TIs were applied in Larix principis-rupprechtii Mayr 21-, 25-, and 41-year-old stands in North China in 2010. Portable infrared gas analyzer (Li-8100 A) was used to measure ES and its association with environmental factors at monthly intervals from May to October in 2013 to 2015. In addition, nutrients, wood structure and nonstructural carbon (NSC) data were measured in August 2016. Results: The results show that ES increased with increasing TI. The maximum ES values occurred at a TI of 35 % (3.29, 4.57 and 2.98 µmol∙m-2∙s-1) and were 1.54-, 1.94- and 2.89-fold greater than the minimum ES value in the CK stands (2.14, 2.35 and 1.03 µmol∙m-2∙s-1) in July for the 21-, 25- and 41-year-old forests, respectively. The ES of the trees in low-density stands was more sensitive to temperature than that of the trees in high-density stands. Soluble sugars (SS) and temperature are the main factors affecting ES. When the stand density is low enough as 41-year-old L. principis-rupprechtii forests with TI 35 %, bark thickness (BT) and humidity should be considered in addition to air temperature (Ta), wood temperature (Tw), sapwood width (SW), nitrogen concentration (N) and SS in the evaluation of ES. If a change in stand density is ignored, the CO2 released from individual 21-, 25- and 41-year-old trees could be underestimated by 168.89 %, 101.94 % and 200.49 %, respectively. CO2 release was estimated based on the stem equation in combination with the factors influencing ES for reference. Conclusions: We suggest that it is not sufficient to conventional models which quantify ES only by temperature and that incorporating the associated drivers (e.g. density, SS, SW and N) based on stand density into conventional models can improve the accuracy of ES estimates. Reconsolidation refers to memory reprocessing when consolidated memory is being recalled and restored. Importantly, as memory is being recalled, it could further modify past memories. Memory reconsolidation has been identified as a critical role in various types of mental disorders, in particular drug addiction. In this review, we first review earlier studies related to reconsolidation. Secondly, we characterize memory reconsolidation processing in human brain via neuroimaging studies. Then we focus on the role of reconsolidation and reconsolidation-based interventions in drug addiction. Abstract

A super flexible copper/carbon nanofiber film electrode is successfully synthesized through a calcination process wholly under nitrogen atmosphere. It is found that the heating rate in the calcination process plays a crucial role in achieving foldable super flexibility. The as-obtained film electrode exhibits mechanical super flexibility with a maximum specific capacitance of 608 F g−1 at a current density of 1 A g−1 and a capacity retention of 75.7% after 1000 cycles. Its flexible symmetric all-solid-state supercapacitor shows a superior areal capacitance of 88 mF cm−2 at a current density of 0.2 mA cm−2 and a high energy density of 41 μWh cm−2 at a power density of 0.28 mW cm−2.
