151. UV Radiation Detection Using Optical Sensor Based on Eu3+ Doped PMMA

Abstract: Progress in UV treatment applications requires new compact and sensor constructions. In the paper a hybrid (organic-inorganic) rare-earth-based polymeric UV sensor construction is proposed. The efficient luminescence of poly(methyl) methacrylate (PMMA) matrix doped by europium was used for testing the optical sensor (optrode) construction. The europium complex assures effective luminescence in the visible range with well determined multi-peak spectrum emission enabling construction of the optrode. The fabricated UV optical fibre sensor was used for determination of Nd:YAG laser intensity measurements at the third harmonic (355 nm) in the radiation power range 5.0-34.0 mW. The multi-peak luminescence spectrum was used for optimization of the measurement formula. The composition of luminescent peak intensity enables to increase the slope of sensitivity up to −2.8 mW-1. The obtained results and advantages of the optical fibre construction enable to apply it in numerous UV detection systems.

Abstract: This paper reports measurements of two-pion Bose-Einstein (HBT) correlations in Be+Be collisions at a beam momentum of 150$A\,\mbox{GeV}/\textit{c}$ by the $\mbox{NA61/SHINE}$ experiment at the CERN SPS accelerator. The obtained momentum space correlation functions can be well described by a L\'evy distributed source model. The transverse mass dependence of the L\'evy source parameters is presented, and their possible theoretical interpretations are discussed. The results show that the L\'evy exponent $\alpha$ is approximately constant as a function of $m_{\rm{T}}$ , and far from both the Gaussian case of $\alpha = 2$ or the conjectured value at the critical endpoint, $\alpha = 0.5$. The radius scale parameter $R$ shows a slight decrease in $m_{\rm{T}}$, which can be explained as a signature of transverse flow. Finally, an approximately constant trend of the intercept parameter $\lambda$ as a function of $m_{\rm{T}}$ was observed, different from measurement results at RHIC.

The dependence of second-order scaled factorial moments of proton multiplicity distribution on the number of subdivisions of transverse momentum space is measured. The intermittency analysis is performed using both transverse momentum and cumulative transverse momentum. For the first time, statistically independent data sets are used for each subdivision number. The obtained results do not indicate any statistically significant intermittency pattern. An upper limit on the fraction of critical proton pairs and the power of the correlation function is obtained based on a comparison with the Power-law Model developed for this purpose. Abstract: This paper presents multiplicity measurements of KS0, Λ, and Λ¯ produced in 120 GeV/c proton-carbon interactions. The measurements were made using data collected at the NA61/SHINE experiment during two different periods. Decays of these neutral hadrons impact the measured π+, π−, p and p¯ multiplicities in the 120 GeV/c proton-carbon reaction, which are crucial inputs for long-baseline neutrino experiment predictions of neutrino beam flux. The double-differential multiplicities presented here will be used to more precisely measure charged-hadron multiplicities in this reaction, and to reweight neutral hadron production in neutrino beam Monte Carlo simulations.

156. Luminescence Sensing Method for Degradation Analysis of Bioactive Glass Fibers

Abstract: The effects of Sm3+ content on the optical properties and bioactivity of 13-93 bioactive glass were presented. Sm3+ doped glass fibers drawn from bioactive glass were analyzed in simulated body fluid (SBF) for the determination of ion release. Optical analysis of the Sm3+ ions in bioactive glass fibers was used for degradation monitoring. While the fibers were immersed in SBF solution, changes in their luminescence spectra under 405 nm laser excitation were measured continuously for 48 h. The morphology of the fibers after the immersion process was determined by SEM/EDS. It was shown that the proposed approach to the analysis of changes in Sm3+ ion luminescence is a sensitive method for the monitoring of degradation processes and the formation of hydroxycarbonate-apatite (HCA) layers on glass fiber surfaces. SEM/EDS measurements showed a significant deterioration on the surface of the fibers and the formation of HCA on 13-93_02Sm bioactive glass. The optical analysis of the time constant indicated that bioactive glass fibers doped with 2 %mol Sm3+ degrade at a rate almost five times slower than 13-93_02Sm.

Abstract: We present a measurement of the momentum spectra of $\pi^\pm$, K$^\pm$, p$^\pm$, $\Lambda$, $\bar{\Lambda}$ and K$^{0}_{S}$ produced in interactions of negatively charged pions with carbon nuclei at beam momenta of 158 and 350 GeV/c. The total production cross sections are measured as well. The data were collected with the large-acceptance spectrometer of the fixed target experiment NA61/SHINE at the CERN SPS. The obtained double-differential $p$-$p_T$ spectra provide a unique reference data set with unprecedented precision and large phase-space coverage to tune models used for the simulation of particle production in extensive air showers in which pions are the most numerous projectiles.

Abstract: This paper presents multiplicity measurements of K0S, Λ, and ¯Λ produced in 120 GeV/c proton-carbon interactions. The measurements were made using data collected at the NA61/SHINE experiment during two different periods. Decays of these neutral hadrons impact the measured π+, π−, p and ¯p multiplicities in the 120 GeV/c proton-carbon reaction, which are crucial inputs for long-baseline neutrino experiment predictions of neutrino beam flux. The double-differential multiplicities presented here will be used to more precisely measure charged-hadron multiplicities in this reaction, and to reweight neutral hadron production in neutrino beam Monte Carlo simulations.

Abstract: International audience; The long term goal of the CERN Experimental Physics Department R&D on monolithic sensorsis the development of sub-100nm CMOS sensors for high energy physics. The first technologyselected is the TPSCo 65nm CMOS imaging technology. A first submission MLR1 includedseveral small test chips with sensor and circuit prototypes and transistor test structures. One ofthe main questions to be addressed was how to optimize the sensor in the presence of significantin-pixel circuitry. In this paper this optimization is described as well as the experimental resultsfrom the MLR1 run confirming its effectiveness. A second submission investigating wafer-scalestitching has just been completed. This work has been carried out in strong synergy with the ITS3upgrade of the ALICE experiment.

Abstract: This paper presents multiplicity measurements of $K_{S}^{0}$, $\Lambda$, and $\bar{\Lambda}$ production in 120 GeV/c proton-carbon interactions. The measurements were made using data collected at the NA61/SHINE experiment during two different periods. Decays of these neutral hadrons impact the measured $\pi^{+}$, $\pi^{-}$, p and $\bar{p}$ multiplicities in the 120 GeV/c proton-carbon reaction, which are crucial inputs for long-baseline neutrino experiment predictions of neutrino beam flux. The double-differential multiplicities presented here will be used to more precisely measure charged-hadron multiplicities in this reaction, and to reweight neutral hadron production in neutrino beam Monte Carlo simulations.

Abstract: Leukocytes are a part of the immune system that plays an important role in the host’s defense against viral, bacterial, and fungal infections. Among the human leukocytes, two granulocytes, neutrophils (Ne) and eosinophils (EOS) play an important role in the innate immune system. For that purpose, eosinophils and neutrophils contain specific granules containing protoporphyrin-type proteins such as eosinophil peroxidase (EPO) and myeloperoxidase (MPO), respectively, which contribute directly to their anti-infection activity. Since both proteins are structurally and functionally different, they could potentially be a marker of both cells’ types. To prove this hypothesis, UV−Vis absorption spectroscopy and Raman imaging were applied to analyze EPO and MPO and their content in leukocytes isolated from the whole blood. Moreover, leukocytes can contain lipidic structures, called lipid bodies (LBs), which are linked to the regulation of immune responses and are considered to be a marker of cell inflammation. In this work, we showed how to determine the number of LBs in two types of granulocytes, EOS and Ne, using fluorescence and coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microscopy. Spectroscopic differences of EPO and MPO can be used to identify these cells in blood samples, while the detection of LBs can indicate the cell inflammation process.

Abstract: An investigation of the crystallization kinetics of 45S5 Bioglass® using differential scanning calorimetry is presented in this paper. Thermal analysis was performed using the Friedman method. The activation energy and the Avrami index were calculated. The glass samples were subjected to additional controlled heat treatment at 620 °C in order to obtain bioactive glass-ceramics with enhanced mechanical properties. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) measurements indicated the formation of the glass-ceramic structures of three cyclosilicates: Na4Ca4(Si6O18) or Na6Ca3(Si6O18) or Na16Ca4(Si12O36). Based on middle infrared region (MIR) results, it can be concluded that the crystalline phase present in the tested materials was Na6Ca3(Si6O18) (combeite). Material was doped with Eu3+ ions, which act as a spectroscopic probe for monitoring the structural changes in the glass matrix. The decreasing value of the fluorescence intensity radio parameter indicated symmetry around the europium ions and, thus, the arrangement of the glass structure. The bioactive properties of the examined glass-ceramics were also determined. The bioactive glass fibers doped with Eu3+ were manufactured using two different methods. Its structural and luminescent properties were examined.

171. Highly Efficient Biphasic System for the Synthesis of Alkyl Lactates in the Presence of Acidic Ionic Liquids

Abstract: Alkyl lactates are produced from lactic acid via esterification, and are used in the production of plastics, paints, solvents and detergents. In the pursuit of an inexpensive, industry-suitable catalyst for this reaction, the application of protic ionic liquids based on nitrogen base and sulphuric acid is proposed. The ionic liquid was synthesised via a simple reaction of triethylamine and a threefold molar excess of sulphuric acid. Water was added to remove the heat of the reaction. Next, the reaction conditions for the model esterification of 2-ethylhexanol with lactic acid without additional solvent were optimised. Exceptionally mild conditions, i.e., a twofold molar excess of alcohol to lactic acid with the addition of an ionic liquid in a catalytic amount (15 mol%) at 60 °C, resulted in high yields of ethyl and 2-ethylhexyl lactates (96−97%). The driving force of this reaction is the production of a biphasic system with immiscible ester during the reaction. This phenomenon makes it possible to overcome the reaction equilibrium. Using an inexpensive ionic liquid, which could be recycled up to five times without diminution in conversion or selectivity, leads to both a greener and a more economically-viable process.

Abstract: The influence of gibberellic acid (GA3) and of kinetin (6-furfurylamino purine) on the increment of cell number increase in dry weight and upon protein level in Scenedesmus quadricauda (Turp.) Bréb. was studied. It was found that 10-7 M GA3 stimulates at the same time cell growth and dry weight increase of the algae. No influence of GA3 upon the protein content was observed. Kinetin of 10- M concentration stimulates in the initial growth phase cell multiplication and increases the protein level. This substance promotes the increment in dry weight however in the later phase of growth. Furthermore kinetin prolongs the viability of algae, extending the growth phase.

174. Activity of aminotransferase in tomato seedlings depending on Ca : Mg ion ratio in the nutrient medium

Abstract: Change from the normal Ca : Mg ion ratio (3 :1) to 3 : 30 in a medium in the presence of nitrates causes reduction of dry weight content in the tomato seedlings. This reduction is not observable if ammonium salts are the source of nitrogen. It was found that the GOT and GPT activity depends on the form of mineral nitrogen and on the Ca : Mg ion ratio in the medium. An excess of magnesium causes a distinct decrease of the activity of both enzymes in roots of plants grown in nitrate media. In the remaining organs of the plants the GOT activity tends to grow at increased magnesium dose in the medium in the presence of nitrates. Excess of Mg2+ ions in the medium containing ammonium salts increases the activity of GPT in the roots of the tomato seedlings and the GOT activity in the roots, shoots and leaves of tomatoes. The possibility of indirect influence of the Ca : Mg ratio in the medium upon the activity of both enzymes has been discussed.

Abstract: In the article a novel construction of a side-detecting luminescent optical fiber for an UV sensor application has been presented. In the fiber, structure phosphate glass doped with 0.5 mol% Tb3+ ions was used as a UV sensitive core/ribbon. The luminescence spectrum of glass and the optical fiber was measured under UV excitation using a deuterium lamp. It was found that large energy gap between upper (metastable) and lower (ground) levels of terbium ions incorporated in phosphate matrix leads to the effective emission at wavelengths of 489, 543, 586 and 621 nm, which correspond to 5D4 → 7FJ, (J = 3, 4, 5, 6) transitions respectively. Phosphate glass doped with optimal (the strongest VIS emission) concentration of Tb3+ (0.5 mol%) was used as the active core/ribbon in the construction of UV side-detecting optical fiber.

Abstract: The in vivo and in vitro activities of NADH-dependent glutamate synthase in excised Pisum arvense roots increased several-fold under the influence of malate while pyruvate oxaloacctate. citrate and succinate inhibited this entyme. The plastids isolated from Pisum arvense root,. ahen incubated with glutamine and α-ketoglutarate, released glutamate into the medium Malate clearly stimulated this process. Albizziin (25 mM) completely reduced the presence of glutamate in the incubation mixture. These results indicate that reduced pyridine nucleotides arising in P. arvense root plastids during oxidation of malic acid may constitute the indispensable source of electrons for glutamic acid synthesis.

Abstract: The ErF3-doped oxyfluoride phospho-tellurite glasses in the (40-x) TeO2-10P2O5-45 (BaF2-ZnF2) -5Na2O-xErF3 system (where x = 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00, and 1.25 mol%) have been prepared by the conventional melt-quenching method. The effect of erbium trifluoride addition on thermal, structure, and spectroscopic properties of oxyfluoride phospho-tellurite precursor glass was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), and Raman spectroscopy as well as emission measurements, respectively. The DSC curves were used to investigate characteristic temperatures and thermal stability of the precursor glass doped with varying content of ErF3. FTIR and Raman spectra were introduced to characterize the evolution of structure and phonon energy of the glasses. It was found that the addition of ErF3 up to 1.25 mol% into the chemical composition of phospho-tellurite precursor glass enhanced 2.7 µm emission and upconversion. By controlled heat-treatment process of the host glass doped with the highest content of erbium trifluoride (1.25 mol%), transparent erbium-doped phospho-tellurite glass-ceramic (GC) was obtained. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the presence of BaF2 nanocrystals with the average 16 nm diameter in a glass matrix. Moreover, MIR, NIR, and UC emissions of the glass-ceramic were discussed in detail and compared to the spectroscopic properties of the glass doped with 1.25 mol% of ErF3 (the base glass).

Abstract: Bismuth-germanate glasses with low hydroxide content co-doped with Ho3+/Yb3+ ions have been investigated in terms of structural and spectroscopic properties. To reduce OH- ions content and improve transmittance value at the wavelength of 3.1 µm, the glass synthesis has been carried out in low vacuum conditions (45–65 mBar). The composition of the host glass based on heavy metal oxides affects the maximum phonon energy (hωmax = 724 cm−1), which low value has a positive impact on the mid-infrared emission parameters. Emission band at the wavelength of 2.87 µm was observed in glass co-doped with mol% 0.25 Ho2O3/0.75 Yb2O3 under 980 nm high power laser diode wavelength excitation. Lifetime measurements of the Yb3+:2F5/2 quantum level indicate efficient Yb3+ → Ho3+ energy transfer (η = 61%). The developed active bismuth-germanate glass was used as the core of optical fibre operating in the mid-infrared region.

Abstract: Measurements of $$K^{*}(892)^0$$ K ∗ ( 892 ) 0 resonance production via its $$K^{+}\pi ^{-}$$ K + π - decay mode in inelastic p+p collisions at beam momenta 40 and 80 $$\text{ GeV }\!/\!c$$ GeV / c ( $$\sqrt{s_{NN}}=8.8$$ s NN = 8.8 and 12.3 $$\text{ GeV }$$ GeV ) are presented. The data were recorded by the NA61/SHINE hadron spectrometer at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. The template method was used to extract the $$K^{*}(892)^0$$ K ∗ ( 892 ) 0 signal. Transverse momentum and rapidity spectra were obtained. The mean multiplicities of $$K^{*}(892)^0$$ K ∗ ( 892 ) 0 mesons were found to be $$(35.1 \pm 1.3 \mathrm {(stat)} \pm 3.6 \mathrm {(sys))} \cdot 10^{-3}$$ ( 35.1 ± 1.3 ( stat ) ± 3.6 ( sys ) ) · 10 - 3 at 40 $$\text{ GeV }\!/\!c$$ GeV / c and $$(58.3 \pm 1.9 \mathrm {(stat)} \pm 4.9 \mathrm {(sys))} \cdot 10^{-3}$$ ( 58.3 ± 1.9 ( stat ) ± 4.9 ( sys ) ) · 10 - 3 at 80 $$\text{ GeV }\!/\!c$$ GeV / c . The NA61/SHINE results are compared with the Epos1.99 and Hadron Resonance Gas models as well as with world data. The transverse mass spectra of $$K^{*}(892)^0$$ K ∗ ( 892 ) 0 mesons and other particles previously reported by NA61/SHINE were fitted within the Blast-Wave model. The transverse flow velocities are close to 0.1–0.2 of the speed of light and are significantly smaller than the ones determined in heavy nucleus-nucleus interactions at the same beam momenta.

Once patients develop symptomatic calcific aortic stenosis, the only effective treatment is aortic valve replacement. In the past decade, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has been developed as an alternative to surgery to treat severe calcific aortic stenosis. Cardiac imaging plays a pivotal role in the contemporary management of patients with calcific aortic stenosis, and particularly in patients being considered for TAVR, who demand detailed imaging of the aortic valve apparatus. In this review, we highlight the role of cardiac imaging for patient selection, procedural guidance, and evaluation of results of TAVR. Abstract: A new type of luminescent optical fibre sensor for structural health monitoring of composite laminates (CFRP) is proposed. The Nd3+ doped multi-core doubleclad fibre incorporated in composite structure was used as a distributed temperature sensor. The change of luminescence intensity (Nd3+ ions) at the wavelength of 880 nm (4F3/2 → 4I9/2) and 1060 nm (4F3/2 → 4I11/2) was used for internal temperature monitoring. The special construction of optical fibre was used as it assures an efficient pumping mechanism and, at same time, it increases the measuring sensitivity. The linear response with relative sensitivity 0.015 K−1 was obtained for temperature range from 30 up to 75ºC. The manufacturing process of CFRP with embedded optical fibre sensor is also discussed.

Abstract: BackgroundMyocardial mechanics are altered in adults with obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D); insulin resistance and adipokines have been implicated as important risk factors for cardiovascular disease, but these relationships are poorly described in adolescents. We hypothesized that obese adolescents and adolescents with T2D would have abnormal cardiac function compared to lean adolescents. In addition, we hypothesized that insulin sensitivity (IS), adiposity, and adipokines would be associated with altered cardiac strain and cardiopulmonary fitness in adolescents with T2D. Methods and ResultsAdolescents (15±2 years) with T2D (n=37), obesity without diabetes (n=41), and lean controls (n=31) of similar age and pubertal stage underwent echocardiography with speckle tracking, assessment of IS by hyperinsulinemic–euglycemic clamp, body composition by dual‐energy x‐ray absorptiometry, peak oxygen consumption (VO2peak) by cycle ergometry, adiponectin, and leptin. Abstract: The production of $$K^{0}_{S}$$ K S 0 mesons in inelastic p+p collisions at beam momentum 158 $$\text{ GeV }/c$$ GeV / c ( $$\sqrt{s_{NN}}=17.3$$ s NN = 17.3 $$\text{ GeV }$$ GeV ) was measured with the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. Double-differential distributions were obtained in transverse momentum and rapidity. The mean multiplicity of $$K^{0}_{S}$$ K S 0 was determined to be $$0.162 \pm 0.001 (stat.) \pm 0.011 (sys.)$$ 0.162 ± 0.001 ( s t a t . ) ± 0.011 ( s y s . ) . The results on $$K^{0}_{S}$$ K S 0 production are compared with model predictions (EPOS 1.99, SMASH 2.0, PHSD and UrQMD 3.4 models) as well as with published world data.

Abstract: NA61/SHINE is a large-acceptance fixed-target experiment located at the CERN SPS, which studies final hadronic states in interactions of various particles and nuclei. It is unique in terms of providing data on a variety of collision systems at different collision energies. This allows for wide deuteron, antiproton and antideuteron production cross-section studies. The latter are currently considered a possible dark matter interaction signal with exceptionally small background. The measurements on carbon target are important to reduce systematic experimental effects due to experiment-internal antideuteron production, as the most abundant element in the path of an incoming particle for the AMS-02 experiment is carbon. My talk will focus on analysis of NA61/SHINE data on $p$+C thin target collisions in context of light (anti)nuclei production. I will present a preliminary analysis of experimental data and discuss quality cuts and the particle identification method as well as present deuteron and antideuteron yields.

Abstract: The production of K$_{S}$$^{0}$ mesons in inelastic p+p collisions at beam momentum 158 GeV /�� ($\sqrt{SNN}$=17.3 GeV ) was measured with the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. Double-differential distributions were obtained in transverse momentum and rapidity. The mean multiplicity of K$_{S}$$^{0}$ was determined to be 0.162��0.001(��.)��0.011(��.). The results on K$_{S}$$^{0}$ production are compared with model predictions (EPOS 1.99, SMASH 2.0, PHSD and UrQMD 3.4 models) as well as with published world data.

200. Influence of TiO2concentration on near-infrared luminescence of Er3+ions in barium gallo-germanate glasses

Abstract: Erbium (Er)-doped barium gallo-germanate (BGG) glasses modified by TiO2have been investigated for near-infrared luminescence applications. Luminescence at 1.5 μm associated to 4I13/2 → 4I15/2transition of Er3+ions has been examined in function of TiO2concentration. Several spectroscopic and near-infrared (NIR) laser parameters for Er3+such as stimulated emission cross-section, luminescence bandwidth and lifetime, quantum efficiency, gain bandwidth and figure of merit were determined based on experiments and theoretical calculations using the Judd-Ofelt framework. Our systematic investigations indicate that Er-doped glass with molar ratio GeO2:TiO2 = 1:2 shows excellent luminescence properties and could be successfully applied to near-infrared broadband optical amplifiers.
