Abstract The four-dimensional S-matrix is reconsidered as a correlator on the celestial sphere at null infinity. Asymptotic particle states can be characterized by the point at which they enter or exit the celestial sphere as well as their SL(2, ℂ) Lorentz quantum numbers: namely their conformal scaling dimension and spin h ± h ¯ $$ h\pm \overline{h} $$ instead of the energy and momentum. This characterization precludes the notion of a soft particle whose energy is taken to zero. We propose it should be replaced by the notion of a conformally soft particle with h = 0 or h ¯ $$ \overline{h} $$ = 0. For photons we explicitly construct conformally soft SL(2, ℂ) currents with dimensions (1, 0) and identify them with the generator of a U(1) Kac-Moody symmetry on the celestial sphere. For gravity the generator of celestial conformal symmetry is constructed from a (2, 0) SL(2, ℂ) primary wavefunction. Interestingly, BMS supertranslations are generated by a spin-one weight ( 3 2 $$ \frac{3}{2} $$ , 1 2 $$ \frac{1}{2} $$ ) operator, which nevertheless shares holomorphic characteristics of a conformally soft operator. This is because the right hand side of its OPE with a weight (h, h ¯ $$ \overline{h} $$ ) operator O h , h ¯ $$ {\mathcal{O}}_{h,\overline{h}} $$ involves the shifted operator O h + 1 2 , h ¯ + 1 2 $$ {\mathcal{O}}_{h+\frac{1}{2},\overline{h}+\frac{1}{2}} $$ . This OPE relation looks quite unusual from the celestial CFT2 perspective but is equivalent to the leading soft graviton theorem and may usefully constrain celestial correlators in quantum gravity.

In lung cancer immunotherapy, biomarkers to guide clinical decisions are limited. We now explore whether the detailed immunophenotyping of circulating peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) can predict the efficacy of anti-PD-1 immunotherapy in patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We determined 107 PBMCs subpopulations in a prospective cohort of NSCLC patients before starting single-agent anti-PD-1 immunotherapy (study group), analyzed by flow cytometry. As a control group, we studied patients with advanced malignancies before initiating non-immunotherapy treatment. The frequency of PBMCs was correlated with treatment outcome. Patients were categorized as having either high or low expression for each biomarker, defined as those above the 55th or below the 45th percentile of the overall marker expression within the cohort. In the study group, three subpopulations were associated with significant differences in outcome: high pretreatment levels of circulating CD4+CCR9+, CD4+CCR10+, or CD8+CXCR4+ T cells correlated with poorer overall survival (15.7 vs. 35.9 months, HR 0.16, p = 0.003; 22.0 vs. NR months, HR 0.10, p = 0.003, and 22.0 vs. NR months, HR 0.29, p = 0.02). These differences were specific to immunotherapy-treated patients. High baseline levels of circulating T cell subpopulations related to tissue lymphocyte recruitment are associated with poorer outcomes of immunotherapy-treated advanced NSCLC patients.

The overarching aim of this study was to validate the Afrikaans version of Snyder’s (1997) Children’s Hope Scale in a sample of children from Cape Town, South Africa. Within this process, the study aimed to test the measurement invariance across the English and Afrikaans language versions. The study used a cross-sectional survey design, with a two-stage stratified random sample of 1022 children between the ages of 11- to 12-years-old. We selected the participants from 15 schools located in low and middle socio-economic status communities in the Cape Town Metropole. We used confirmatory factor analysis to analyse the data. The results indicated a good fit for the overall model using the pooled sample (X2 = 35.692; df = 7; p =.00; CFI =.984; RMSEA =.063; SRMR =.023). Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis further demonstrated the tenability of metric and scalar invariance. This indicates that the items on the scale has the same meaning across the two languages, and that the scores on the English and Afrikaans versions of the scale are comparable by correlations, regression coefficients, and means. The overall findings suggest that the Afrikaans translated version of the Children’s Hope Scale is an appropriate measure for use in the South African context.

Immunotherapy is an effective treatment in advanced cancer, although predictors of response are limited. We studied whether excess weight influences the efficacy outcomes of immunotherapy. We have also evaluated the combined prognostic effect of excess weight and immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Efficacy of anti-PD-1 treatment was evaluated with both objective radiological response (ORR) rate and progression-free survival (PFS), and toxicity with irAEs. We studied the association between excess weight and ORR, PFS or irAEs. 132 patients diagnosed with advanced cancer were included. Corsican marine aquaculture is one of the highest contributors of fish production in France, which may result in environmental perturbations caused by organic matter (OM) accumulation under fish farms and impacting natural communities. This study aimed to (1) characterise the environmental conditions at two different fish farms, (2) monitor the response of benthic foraminiferal species to this activity, and (3) assess the accuracy of existing foraminiferal biotic indices. In 2017, sea floor sediment was sampled in transects from two Corsican fish farms for living foraminiferal and sedimentary analyses. Four indices were calculated and compared: exp(H′bc), Foram-AMBI, Foram Stress Index and TSI-Med. A significant increase in total organic carbon (TOC) has been shown, mainly below the fish cages. Communities were characterized by a shift from high density, opportunistic and tolerant species under the cages to lower densities and more sensitive species further away. According to their distribution patterns along the TOC gradient, we propose to update the ecological group classification of seven species to improve Foram-AMBI’s accuracy and sensitivity: Triloculina oblonga and Quinqueloculina lamarckiana to Ecological Group (EG) I; Rosalina bradyi to EGIII; and Bolivina dilatata, Bulimina aculeata and Quinqueloculina stalkeri to EGIV. We recommend prioritising the use of TSI-Med and Foram-AMBI with the updated list to assess ecological quality in coastal waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
