Abstract

Biliary stent displacement is a common stent related complication after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. If not diagnosed and treated early, it may lead to serious consequences. This article summarizes recent domestic and international articles on biliary stent displacement after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, reviews the diagnosis, risk factors, and treatment of biliary stent displacement after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, and provides assistance in guiding patients to achieve better prognosis.

Abstract

Sealing interface materials and coatings are sacrificial, giving up their integrity for the benefit of the component. Seals that are compliant while still controlling leakage, dynamics, and coolant flows are sought to enhance turbomachine performance. Herein we investigate the leaf-seal configuration. While the leaf seal is classified as contacting, a ready modification using the leaf-housing arrangement in conjunction with an interface film rider (a bore seal, for example) provides for a film-riding noncontact seal. The leaf housing and leaf elements can be made from a variety of materials from plastic to ceramic. Four simplistic models are used to identify the physics essential to controlling leakage. Corroborated by CFD, these results provide design parameters for applications to within reasonable engineering certainty. Some potential improvements are proposed.

Abstract

Previous studies have shown that Streptococcus oligofermentans inhibits the growth of cariogenic Streptococcus mutans in biofilms in vitro and is considered a probiotic candidate for caries prevention. This study aimed to examine the effects of various environmental factors on the competition between S. oligofermentans and S. mutans in a dual-species biofilm model. Single or dual S. oligofermentans and S. mutans biofilms were grown in a 96-well active attachment model for 48 h. Several growth conditions were examined in the model, namely: S. oligofermentans was inoculated 24 h before S. mutans or vice versa; the growth medium was supplemented with 0.2% sucrose or 0.4% glucose; biofilms were grown under a constantly neutral pH or pH-cycling condition, which included 8 h of neutral pH and 16 h of pH 5.5. The 48-h biofilms were examined for viable cell counts and lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide production ability. When S. oligofermentans was inoculated first, it clearly inhibited the growth of S. mutans and reduced the biofilm lactic acid production by up to 8-fold through hydrogen peroxide production, independently of sugar supply and pH conditions. When S. mutans was inoculated first, the level of inhibition by S. oligofermentans varied depending on the sugar supply and pH conditions. Thus, the inhibition efficacy of S. oligofermentans against S. mutans in dual-species biofilms is influenced by environmental factors. This study provides practical information on how to maximize the efficacy of S. oligofermentans.

Abstract

Despite tremendous importance in catalysis, the design and improvement of the oxide- metal interface has been hampered by the limited understanding on the nature of interfacial sites, as well as the oxide-metal interaction (OMI). Through the construction of well-defined Cu2O-Pt, Cu2O-Ag, Cu2O-Au interfaces, we found that Cu2O Nanostructures (NSs) on Pt exhibit much lower thermal stability than on Ag and Au, although they show the same surface and edge structures, as identified by element-specific scanning tunneling microscopy (ES-STM) images. The activities of the Cu2O-Pt and Cu2O-Au interfaces for CO oxidation were further compared at the atomic scale and showed in general that the interface with Cu2O NSs could annihilate the CO-poisoning problem suffered by Pt group metals and enhance the interaction with O2, which is a limiting step for CO oxidation catalysis on group IB metals. While both interfaces could react with CO at room temperature, the OMI was found to determine the reactivity of supported Cu2O NSs by 1) tuning the activity of interfacial oxygen atoms and 2) stabilizing oxygen vacancies or vice versa, the dissociated oxygen atoms at the interface. Our study provides new insight for OMI and for the development of Cu-based catalysts for low temperature oxidation reactions.

175. Flow Instabilities in Feather Seals due to Upstream Harmonic Pressure Fluctuations

Abstract

Feather seals (also called slot seals) typically found in turbine stators limit leakage from the platform into the core cavities and from the shroud to the case. They are of various geometric shapes, yet all are contoured to fit the aerodynamic shape of the stator and placed as close as thermomechanically reasonable the powerstream flow passage. Oscillations engendered in the compressor or combustor alter the steady leakage characteristics of these sealing elements and in some instances generate flow instabilities downstream of the seal interface. In this study, a generic feather seal geometry was studied numerically by imposing an upstream harmonic pressure disturbance on the simulated stator-blade gap. The flow and thermal characteristics were determined; it was found that for high pressure drops, large fluctuations in flows in the downstream blade-stator gap can occur. These leakages and pulsations in themselves are not all that significant, yet if coupled with cavity parameters, they could set up resonance events. Computationally generated time-dependent flow fields are captured in sequence video streaming.

Abstract

An ion-scale flux rope (FR), embedded in a high-speed electron flow (possibly an electron vortex), is investigated in the magnetotail using observations from the Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) spacecraft. Intense electric field and current and abundant waves are observed in the exterior and interior regions of the FR. Comparable parallel and perpendicular currents in the interior region imply that the FR has a non-force-free configuration. Electron demagnetization occurs in some subregions of the FR. It is surprising that strong dissipation (I x E' up to 2,000 pW/m(3)) occurs in the center of the FR without signatures of secondary reconnection or coalescence of two FRs, implying that FR may provide another important channel for energy dissipation in space plasmas. These features indicate that the observed FR is still highly dynamical, and hosts multiscale coupling processes, even though the FR has a very large scale and is far away from the reconnection site. Plain Language Summary: Flux ropes, 3-D helical magnetic structures, in which magnetic field lines twist with each other, play an important role in the macroscopic and microscopic physical process during magnetic reconnection. Most of previous studies focused on the flux ropes in the reconnection region. However, some physical process inside macroscopic flux ropes far away from the reconnection site in the magnetotail is still unclear due to the lack of high time resolution data. In this letter, thanks to the unprecedented high time resolution data of the Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission, we report an ion-scale flux rope and study its dynamics. Our observations demonstrate that the observed flux rope is still highly dynamical, and hosting multiscale coupling processes and strong energy dissipation, even though the flux rope has very large scale and is far away from the reconnection site.

Abstract

© 2019 Elsevier Ltd Study on the mechanism of coal burst induced by faults instability is a major concern for the safety mining and efficient production in the underground coal mine. In this paper, the sharp change of roof bolt loading, roof separation, roadway deformation and mining face support stress were observed during the routine field tests. According to the preliminary estimation, the reason for such a phenomenon was possibly relevant to the sudden instability of fault structures. To investigate the sudden faults instability, a physical test was carried out with two fault structures. The modelling results suggest that the strain rate from relatively low to sudden changes may be identified as a precursor of fault slip. The overlying strata was severely collapsed under the interactive effect of two faults. The depth of collapsed strata between two faults was higher than that influenced by a single fault. The difference between the first-stage and the second-stage coal mining is studied in three aspects: the area of fault influenced zone, characteristics of stress distribution near fault and the degree of fault slip. Due to the severely collapsed strata between two faults, the abrupt stress change could be induced during excavation of coal mining face, and thus, more attention should be paid to the influence of overlying strata movement above goaf between two faults. The sudden collapse of roof strata and abrupt stress change could release tremendous strain energy and induce coal bursts.

Cross-cultural storytelling is a primary way for humankind to seek mutual recognition of value orientations between cultures, which facilitates the ability to jointly address the problems of human existence in the context of globalization. In this study, we conducted an interview survey of 6,130 respondents who were college students or graduates from 107 countries. The results show that there were a number of cross-cultural values embodied in China’s stories seen by the respondents as part of a common vision for the future of humankind and widely identified guidance on collaborative responses to global challenges. These cross-cultural values are common prosperity, ecological harmony, individual-collective integration, the urgency of global peace, as well as respect for multicultural and indigenous development paths.

Abstract

This paper focuses on analyzing the educational carrying capacity of colleges and universities by using topological number theory and the educational carrying capacity development index. The scale range of the educational carrying capacity of colleges and universities can be determined by identifying relevant definitions of topological space and some topological invariants. Using the relevant definitions of topological space to divide the college education-bearing intervals of different regions and combining the human development index and imbalance coefficient processing, we construct the formula of the balanced and sufficient development index of college education-bearing capacity, which is used to analyze the education bearing capacity of colleges and universities. Analyze different states of college education carrying capacity based on the college education carrying capacity bearing structure. Examine the educational carrying capacity of colleges and universities by examining their educational resource allocation with the help of human and financial resources. The results show that the teacher-student ratio of the urban function expansion area is 0.052, which is the smallest teacher-student ratio among all the districts, indicating that although the district is rich in teachers’ resources, the balanced and sufficient development index of the educational carrying capacity of colleges and universities in District A and District D is high, and the top two rankings have been maintained for a long period in the process of development, and the index of the balanced and sufficient development of education in District A will be 60 in 2021, which is in the area of the development of higher value of the educational carrying capacity.

© 2018 Elsevier Ltd The fracture behavior of unoiled/uncoated polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber reinforced sulphoaluminate cement (SAC) matrices was experimentally investigated and compared with those of polypropylene (PP) fiber reinforced SAC and PVA fiber reinforced Portland cement (PC) matrices in this study. In the experimental investigation, three-point bending tests were carried out for notched fiber reinforced cement beams. Special attentions were paid on their deflection-hardening and multiple crack patterns. The different flexural behaviors between the plain SAC and PC matrices were evaluated using the double-K fracture model. The results indicate that the PVA fiber reinforced SAC matrices exhibited better flexural behaviors when compared with the PVA fiber reinforced PC matrix having comparable matrix strength. The bond strength between SAC matrix and PVA fiber are relatively better than that between the counterpart PC matrix and PVA fiber, while the bond strength between SAC matrix and PVA fiber is obviously stronger than that between the SAC and PP fibers.
