Introduction: The mental health of populations is usually affected after a disaster event. However, it is not known what the level of mental health of Chinese population 1 year after COVID-19, nor what factors influence it. Aim: This study aimed to examine the mental health status of general population in Chengdu 1 year after COVID-19, and then analyse influencing factors. Method: This study is a cross-sectional survey based on the SCL-90 questionnaire. Continuous data were described as M and SD, and counting data were described as frequencies(n) and percentages (%). Chi-square test or Fisher's exact test were used for statistical inference, and significance variables were included in the binary logistic regression equation for multivariate analysis. Results: There were 172 participants with positive screening results. Age, marital status, number of kids, self-perceived health and the presence of chronic disease had an effect on screening results. Logistic regression analysis showed that age and self-perceived health were the main influencing factors. Discussion: Young people aged 18–19 and those who consider themselves not very healthy were at higher risk of poor mental health 1 year after the COVID-19 outbreak. Impact statement: Community institutions and community workers should focus on the mental health status of people 1 year after COVID-19, with a focus on people with poor self-perceived health and younger age groups, and take early preventive measures. With the escalating demand and utilization of plastics, considerable attention has been given to controlling plastic pollution. Among these methodologies, photocatalytic upcycling of plastic has emerged as a promising method for plastic management due to its energy‐saving and eco‐friendly properties. In the past several years, great efforts have been devoted to the photocatalytic conversion of a variety of commercial plastic types. These encouraging endeavors foreshadow the continued progression and application in this field. In this review, recent advancements in the photocatalytic upcycling of plastics are reviewed. The fundamentals and principles of photocatalytic deconstruction of plastics are first introduced. Then, we summarize the works on the reforming of different types of plastic, including polyolefins, polyesters, and other types. Finally, some challenges and possible solutions are provided for the development of photocatalytic upcycling of plastics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As the Internet of Things (IoT) continues its pervasive influence and digital technologies increasingly weave into the fabric of daily lives, the imperative for robust security measures becomes paramount to mitigate the escalating risks to the digital landscape. Traditional anti‐counterfeiting technologies, while capable to some extent, are constrained by factors such as material toxicity, low‐security efficacy, and intricate fabrication process. Mechanoluminescent materials have shown great potential in the areas of anti‐counterfeiting and security. Here, a multicolor mechanoluminescent (ML) material (lanthanide doped Ca2B2O5) synthesized by solid‐phase reaction is reported for the first time at a relatively lower temperature of 750 °C. The ML devices are obtained by embedding ML materials into polydimethylsiloxane elastomer, allowing for stress visualization with colors ranging from blue and green to orange and red. Through elaborate co‐doping, successive and accurate stress visualizations are realized. Finally, security labels based on the lanthanide ions doped Ca2B2O5 are prepared and also demonstrated to safeguard valuable packages. This work provides a novel multicolor ML material and pioneers its use in security labels, offering a universal solution for multicolor display, information security, dynamic anti‐counterfeiting, and other potential applications within the realm of IoT. Many organisms have complex pigmentation patterns. However, how these patterns are formed remains largely unknown. In wild carrot (Daucus carota subsp. carota), which is also known as Queen Anne's lace, one or several purple central flowers occur in white umbels. Here, we investigated the unique central flower pigmentation pattern in wild carrot umbels. Using wild and cultivated carrot (D. carota subsp. sativus L.) accessions, transcriptome analysis, protein interaction, stable transformation, and CRISPR/Cas9-mediated knockout, an anthocyanin-activating R2R3-myeloblastosis (MYB) gene, Purple Central Flower (DcPCF), was identified as the causal gene that triggers only central flowers to possess the purple phenotype. The expression of DcPCF was only detected in tiny central flowers. We propose that the transition from purple to nonpurple flowers in the center of the umbel occurred after 3 separate adverse events: insertion of transposons in the promoter region, premature termination of the coding sequence (caused by a C–T substitution in the open reading frame), and the emergence of unknown anthocyanin suppressors. These 3 events could have occurred either consecutively or independently. The intriguing purple central flower pattern and its underlying mechanism may provide evidence that it is a remnant of ancient conditions of the species, reflecting the original appearance of Umbelliferae (also called Apiaceae) when a single flower was present. Mechanoluminescence (ML) is a fascinating phenomenon with diverse applications in pressure sensing, damage detection, and stress distribution visualization. However, most ML materials exhibit instantaneous photon emission that requires real‐time recording with a photodetector, and thereby circumscribing their applicability predominantly to real‐time stress‐sensing scenarios. In this work, a novel method is introduced for non‐real‐time stress sensing utilizing Li0.1Na0.9NbO3:Pr3+ phosphor, which allows for the retrieval of pressure location and intensity even 20 days after the event. The influence of heat and pressure on the trap depth distribution is analyzed using thermoluminescence (TL) and ML measurements, and it is proved that both heat and pressure release the captured electrons in the same traps. Leveraging the intricate competition between mechanical and thermal detrapping processes, stress information can be accessed through TL imaging. Furthermore, an algorithm is proposed based on this phenomenon to authenticate the stress information. This research not only advances the fundamental understanding of ML phenomena but also introduces a novel approach for applications such as mechano‐history indicators, security papers, and advanced data storage systems. This study explores the hydrodynamic performance of a National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics 0012 foil using computational fluid dynamics with the unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (URANS) method and shear stress transport k-ω model to assess the impact of asymmetric motion parameters in manta-like swimming. The angles of attack during the mid-upstroke (αmu), mid-downstroke (αmd), and stroke duration (S) are varied to understand their effect. At low Strouhal numbers (StA = 0.2–0.35), a smaller αmd compensates for thrust loss at the start of the upstroke due to a greater αmu. At high Strouhal numbers (StA = 0.5), a greater αmd reduces negative thrust and compensates for the smaller thrust generated by a small αmu during the upstroke. Shorter stroke durations increase asymmetry, leading to more significant positive thrust peaks during the downstroke. If both the angle of attack and S are large, the slower downward speed extends negative thrust, reducing thrust peaks and lowering average thrust. A smaller stroke duration combined with a large angle of attack enhances efficiency due to a greater thrust-to-power ratio, highlighting the interplay between these parameters. A smaller S and greater αmd and StA maximize thrust and efficiency, suggesting aquatic organisms increase thrust while ensuring propulsion efficiency by using a large angle of attack and an asymmetric stroke duration. This study demonstrates how asymmetric parameters interact, providing insights into designing biomimetic underwater vehicles. Heterosis of growth traits in economic fish has benefited the production of aquaculture for many years, yet its genetic and molecular basis has remained obscure. Nowadays, a new germplasm of hybrid Jinhu grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus ♀ × E. tukula ♂), abbreviated as EFT, exhibiting paternal-biased growth heterosis, has provided an excellent model for investigating the potential regulatory mechanisms of heterosis. We integrated transcriptome and methylome to unravel the changes of gene expression, epigenetic modification, and subgenome dominance in EFT compared with maternal E. fuscoguttatus. Integration analyses showed that the heterotic hybrids showed lower genomic DNA methylation levels than the purebred parent, and the up-regulated genes were mostly DNA hypomethylation. Furthermore, allele-specific expression (ASE) detected paternal subgenome dominance-regulated paternal-biased heterosis, and paternal bias differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were wholly up-regulated in the muscle. Multi-omics results highlighted the role of lipid metabolism, particularly "Fatty acid synthesis", "EPA biosynthesis", and "Signaling lipids", in EFT heterosis formation. Coherently, our studies have proved that the eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) of EFT was greater than that of maternal E. fuscoguttatus (8.46% vs. 7.46%). Finally, we constructed a potential regulatory network for control of the heterosis formation in EFT. Among them, fasn, pparg, dgat1, igf1, pomca, fgf8a, and fgfr4 were identified as key genes. Our results provide new and valuable clues for understanding paternal-biased growth heterosis in EFT, taking a significant step towards the molecular basis of heterosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary: Boron (B) is crucial for plant growth and development. B deficiency can impair numerous physiological and metabolic processes, particularly in root development and pollen germination, seriously impeding crop growth and yield. However, the molecular mechanism underlying boron signal perception and signal transduction is rather limited.In this study, we discovered that CPK10, a calcium‐dependent protein kinase in the CPK family, has the strongest interaction with the boron transporter BOR1. Mutations in CPK10 led to growth and root development defects under B‐deficiency conditions, while constitutively active CPK10 enhanced plant tolerance to B deficiency.Furthermore, we found that CPK10 interacted with and phosphorylated BOR1 at the Ser689 residue. Through various biochemical analyses and complementation of B transport in yeast and plants, we revealed that Ser689 of BOR1 is important for its transport activity.In summary, these findings highlight the significance of the CPK10‐BOR1 signaling pathway in maintaining B homeostasis in plants and provide targets for the genetic improvement of crop tolerance to B‐deficiency stress. Objectives: The herbal product corilagin is renowned for its liver-protecting benefits and antioxidant properties. However, the protective role of corilagin in alcoholic liver injury remains unexplored. The objective of this study is to delve into the protective effects of corilagin on alcoholic liver injury, both in HepG2 cells and a mouse model. Methods: To assess the antioxidant capacity of corilagin in vitro, DPPH and ABTS assays were conducted. HepG2 cells were pretreated with 800 mM ethanol for 24 hours, followed by corilagin treatment for another 24 hours, to evaluate its liver-protecting activity. For in vivo studies, ICR mice, with and without corilagin treatment, were given ethanol for 4 weeks to induce alcoholic liver injury. At the end of the study, serum and liver tissue samples were collected to analyze liver function, enzymatic antioxidants, reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, alcohol dehydrogenase, and liver tissue histology. Results: The findings reveal that corilagin exhibits remarkable free radical scavenging ability and alleviates alcohol-induced cell damage in vitro. In vivo, corilagin significantly reduced liver index and serum levels of aminotransferase aspartate, alanine transaminase, total cholesterol, and triglyceride in mice with alcoholic liver injury. Additionally, corilagin decreased ROS levels in liver tissue and increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes CAT, SOD, and GSH-Px. GSH content increased, while lipid peroxide MDA decreased in liver tissue. Conclusion: Our data strongly suggests that corilagin possesses protective effects on alcoholic liver injury, both in vitro and in vivo, which is likely attributed to its exceptional antioxidant capacity. Abstract Background Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is a devastating disease characterized by remodeling of lung architecture and abnormal deposition of fibroblasts in parenchymal tissue and ultimately results in respiratory failure and death. Preclinical studies suggest that mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) administration may be a safe and promising option in treating PF. The objective of our meta-analysis is to assess the efficacy of MSC therapy in preclinical models of PF. Methods We performed a comprehensive literature search in PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases from inception to March 17, 2021. Studies that assessed the efficacy of MSC therapy to animals with PF were included. The SYRCLE bias risk tool was employed to evaluate the bias of included studies. The primary outcomes included survival rate and pulmonary fibrosis scores. Meta-analysis was conducted via Cochrane Collaboration Review Manager (version 5.4) and Stata 14.0 statistical software. Results A total of 1120 articles were reviewed, of which 24 articles met inclusion criteria. Of these, 12 studies evaluated the survival rate and 20 studies evaluated pulmonary fibrosis scores. Compared to the control group, MSC therapy was associated with an improvement in survival rate (odds ratios (OR) 3.10, 95% confidence interval (CI) 2.06 to 4.67, P < 0.001, I 2 = 0%) and a significant reduction in pulmonary fibrosis scores (weighted mean difference (WMD) 2.05, 95% CI −2.58 to −1.51, P < 0.001, I 2 = 90%). Conclusions MSC therapy is a safe and effective method that can significantly improve the survival and pulmonary fibrosis of PF animals. These results provide an important basis for future translational clinical studies.

Parainvolucrella R.J. Wang, a new monotypic genus for P. scabra (Wall. ex Kurz) M.D.Yuan & R.J.Wang, new combination, is segregated from the Hedyotis-Oldenlandia complex, based on morphological and molecular evidence. Phylogenetically, the new genus is sister to Scleromitrion, from which it differs by a combination of morphological characters: herbaceous habit, terminal inflorescence with subtended leaves, heterostylous flowers, indehiscent fruits and pollen with double microreticulate tectum. A key to the genera of the Hedyotis-Oldenlandia complex in China is provided for further identification.
