168. Phosphorus promoted WS2/Al2O3 catalysts studied by transmission electron microscopy

Abstract

A series of WS2/Al2O3 catalysts containing a varied amount of phosphorus (0.0,2.5 and 6.0 wt% P2O5), sulfided at two different temperatures (873 and 1073 K), were studied by means of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The stacking of (002) layers in the WS2-2H crystallites of the “rag” structure increases with the addition of phosphorus, whereas its length is kept almost constant. At high sulfidation temperatures phosphorus shows a stabilizing effect on the catalysts by retarding the stacking growth of WS2 crystallites. Additionally, an aluminum phosphate crystalline phase is identified in the phosphorus promoted catalysts.

Abstract

Starting from a well-characterized natural clinoptilolite (sample HC), the following samples were prepared by ionic exchange with the corresponding cations: NaHC, KHC, CaHC, and MgHC.These samples were exchanged with Ni2+ to obtain the samples NiNaHC, NiKHC, NiCaHC, and NiMgHC. Using absorption spectrometry, NH3 adsorption, thermoprogrammed reduction, and Mössbauer spectrometry we studied the reduction of iron in HC, the cationic composition and adsorption of NH3 in NaHC, KHC, CaHC, MgHC, NiNaHC, NiKHC, NiCaHC, and NiMgHC, and the thermoreduction in Ni-exchanged samples. 170. Temperature programmed reduction of the oxide form ofPNiMo/Al2O3 catalysts before and after water extraction

Abstract

A series of co-impregnatedPNiMo/Al2O3 catalysts with phosphorus concentration varying from 0 to 13.6 wt% P2O5 was studied by temperature programmed reduction (TPR) in their oxidic state before and after water extraction. Diffuse reflectance (DRS) and infrared spectra (IR) of the samples after the water extraction procedure were also analyzed. The TPR data showed that the introduction of phosphorus in the co-impregnatedPNiMo/Al2O3 catalysts increases the formation of easily reducible polymeric molybdenum structures at low phosphorus concentrations and of NiMo microcrystallites in the samples with high phosphorus content. It was found that water extraction procedure affects molybdenum in easily reducible forms, as polymeric molybdenum and nickel-molybdenum structures, and Ni2+(Oh) ions incorporated in them. Indications were found that the increased concentration of phosphorus in thePNiMo/Al2O3 catalysts induces the formation and the stabilization of a β-NiMoO4 phase, which has higher reduction temperature and lower dispersion than polymolybdate surface species and therefore, its formation leads to a decrease in the hydrodesulfurization activity of the catalysts with high phosphorus content.

This research developed a certification testing methodology for composite structures. The existing composite static strength and fatigue life data are analyzed statistically to determine the influence of test parameters on the scatter of composite data. Guidelines to use the composite data scatter in structural certification are recommended. Various approaches to composite structures certification are analytically evaluated. The approaches evaluated are: scatter factor approach, load enhancement factor approach, ultimate strength approach and change in spectrum approach. The capability, advantages and disadvantages of each approach to determine the minimum life and/or strength are fully discussed. 180. Observations and Projections of Heat Waves in South America.

Abstract

Although Heat Waves (HWs) are expected to increase due to global warming, they are a regional phenomenon that demands for local analyses. In this paper, we assess four HW metrics (HW duration, HW frequency, HW amplitude, and number of HWs per season) as well as the share of extremely warm days (TX95, according to the 95th percentile) in South America (SA). Our analysis included observations as well as simulations from global and regional models. In particular, Regional Climate Models (RCMs) from the Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX), and Global Climate Models (GCMs) from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) were used to project both TX95 estimates and HW metrics according to two representative concentration pathways (RCP4.5 and RCP8.5). We found that in recent decades the share of extremely warm days has at least doubled over the period December–January–February (DJF) in northern SA; less significant increases have been observed in southern SA. We also found that by midcentury, under the RCP4.5 scenario, extremely warm DJF days (as well as the number of HWs per season) are expected to increase by 5–10 times at locations close to the Equator and in the Atacama Desert. Increases are expected to be less pronounced in southern SA. Projections under the RCP8.5 scenario are more striking, particularly in tropical areas where half or more of the days could be extremely warm by midcentury. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A systematic review was conducted searching for PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, PsycInfo, and Web of Science databases. Randomized controlled trials published up to December 2023 in peer-reviewed journals were included. Methodological quality was assessed by the Quality Assessment of Controlled Intervention Studies tool. A total of 216 articles were identified and 15 constituted the final sample. The type of CAM most used was traditional Chinese medicine (60%), and the most common instrument used was the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (60%). Our review was grouped into four themes based on the origin of the therapies: 1) Traditional Chinese Medicine; 2) Japanese natural harmonization (eg, Reiki); 3) Ayurvedic Medicine; and 4) Other non-drug therapies. Our systematic review showed that there is a wide range of CAMs used to treat FM. Most of the clinical trials have shown significant results for the effectiveness of these interventions in both physical and mental health outcomes of FM as compared to control groups. However, the heterogeneity of the interventions and outcomes warrants further studies on this topic.Keywords: complementary therapies, fibromyalgia treatment, nonpharmacological interventions, traditional medicine

Abstract

RESUMEN Se evaluó el efecto de una fórmula probiótica conteniendo un consorcio de actinomicetos sobre el rendimiento productivo e integridad intestinal de pollos de carne de 1 a 28 días de edad criados en baterías experimentales. Se emplearon 320 pollos machos Cobb 500, distribuidos al azar en cuatro tratamientos con ocho repeticiones y diez pollos por repetición: T1, dieta basal (sin promotores de crecimiento); T2, dieta basal + promotores de crecimiento (tilosina 200 g/t, salinomicina + nicarbazina 500 g/t); T3, dieta basal + Bacillus subtilis (100 g/t); T4, dieta basal + consorcio de actinomicetos (100 g/t). A los 21 y 28 días de edad se sacrificaron ocho aves por tratamiento para evaluar la integridad intestinal (histomorfometría intestinal) y peso relativo de órganos. A los 14 días de edad, el consorcio de actinomicetos mejoró significativamente la conversión alimenticia frente al grupo que recibió una dieta basal (p0.05). No hubo diferencias estadísticas entre los tratamientos para las variables productivas a los 7, 21 y 28 días de edad (p>0.05). Abstract

This Resource Book reviews the physics opportunities of a next-generation e+e- linear collider and discusses options for the experimental program. Part 4 discusses options for the linear collider program, at a number of levels. First, it presents a broad review of physics beyond the Standard Model, indicating how the linear collider is relevant to each possible pathway. Next, it surveys options for the accelerator and experimental plan, including the questions of the running scenario, the issue of one or two interaction regions, and the options for positron polarization, photon-photon collisions, and e-e- collisions. Finally, it reviews the detector design issues for the linear collider and presents three possible detector designs.
