Objective: To explore the feasibility and efficacy of laparoscopic common bile duct exploration (LCBDE) on patients with previous upper abdominal surgery history. Methods: This study is a retrospective analysis of 90 consecutive LCBDEs from 2007 to 2013 in our hospital. Group A included patients who had the history of upper abdominal surgery, and group B included patients who had no history of surgery. Operative time, open conversion, stone residual, complication, hospital stay and recurrent stone were compared between the two groups. Results: There was no significant differernce between group A and group B in open conversion, stone residual, complication, hospital stay and recurrent stone (P>0.05). But operative time of group A was longer than that of group B (P<0.05). Conclusion: LCBDE on patients with previous upper abdominal surgery history is safe and feasible. The key to success lies in proper patient selection, comprehensive evaluation before operation, rational selection of puncture point and precise operating in surgery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
