Development of analytic gradients for relativistic coupled-cluster singles and doubles augmented with a non-iterative triples [CCSD(T)] method using an all-electron exact two-component Hamiltonian with atomic mean-field spin–orbit integrals (X2CAMF) is reported. This enables efficient CC geometry optimizations with spin–orbit coupling included in orbitals. The applicability of the implementation is demonstrated using benchmark X2CAMF-CCSD(T) calculations of equilibrium structures and harmonic vibrational frequencies for methyl halides, CH3X (X = Br, I, and At), as well as calculations of rotational constants and infrared spectrum for RaSH+, a radioactive molecular ion of interest to spectroscopic study. A relativistic coupled-cluster study of the low-lying electronic states in the radium monohydroxide molecule (RaOH), a radioactive polyatomic molecule of interest to laser cooling and to the search of new physics beyond the Standard Model, is reported. The level positions of the A2Π1/2 and C2Σ states have been computed with an accuracy of around 200 cm−1 to facilitate spectroscopic observation of RaOH using laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy, thereby exploiting the systematic convergence of electron-correlation and basis-set effects in relativistic coupled-cluster calculations. The energy level for the B2Δ3/2 state has also been calculated accurately to conclude that the B2Δ3/2 state lies above the A2Π1/2 state. This confirms X2Σ ↔ A2Π1/2 as a promising optical cycling transition for laser cooling RaOH. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Isolated left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC) results from excessive trabeculation and impaired myocardial compaction during heart development. The extracellular matrix (ECM) that separates endocardium from myocardium plays a critical but poorly understood role in ventricular trabeculation and compaction. In an attempt to characterize solute carrier family 39 member 8-null (Slc39a8-null) mice, we discovered that homozygous null embryos do not survive embryogenesis and exhibit a cardiac phenotype similar to human LVNC. Slc39a8 encodes a divalent metal cation importer that has been implicated in ECM degradation through the zinc/metal regulatory transcription factor 1 (Zn/MTF1) axis, which promotes the expression of ECM-degrading enzymes, including ADAMTS metalloproteinases. Here, we have shown that Slc39a8 is expressed by endothelial cells in the developing mouse heart, where it serves to maintain cellular Zn levels. Furthermore, Slc39a8- null hearts exhibited marked ECM accumulation and reduction of several Adamts metalloproteinases. Consistent with the in vivo observations, knockdown of SLC39A8 in HUVECs decreased ADAMTS1 transcription by decreasing cellular Zn uptake and, as a result, MTF1 transcriptional activity. We reveal limitations of several standard coupled-cluster (CC) methods with perturbation-theory based noniterative or approximate iterative treatments of triple excitations when applied to the determination of highly accurate potential energy curves (PECs) of ionic dimers, such as the X Σ g + 2 electronic ground state of Rb2+. Such computations are of current interest for the understanding of ion–atom interactions in the ultracold regime. We demonstrate that these CC methods lead to an unphysical long-range barrier for the Rb2+ system. The barrier is small but spoils the long-range behavior of the PEC. The effect is also found for other X2+ systems, such as X = Li, Na, and K. Calculations using a flexible framework for obtaining leading perturbative triples corrections derived using an analytic CC singles and doubles energy derivative formulation demonstrate that the origin of this problem lies in the use of T ̂ 3 amplitudes obtained from approximate CC singles, doubles, and triples amplitude equations. It is shown that the unphysical barrier is related to a symmetry instability of the underlying Hartree–Fock mean-field solution, leading to orbitals representing two +0.5-fold charged ions in the limit of separated fragments. This, in turn, leads to a wrong 1/R asymptote of the interaction potential computed by perturbation-based CC approximations. Physically meaningful perturbative corrections in the long-range tail of the PEC may instead be obtained using symmetry-broken reference determinants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
