This study aimed to explore the effects of different baking treatments on the quality of Yongchuan Xiuya (YCXY) green tea. It was found that a long time baking at low temperature was beneficial to keep green colour, faint scent, mellow and fresh taste quality, whereas baking under high temperature was adverse to the quality. Baking treatments slightly regulated (−)‐epigallocatechin, (−)‐epicatechin, (−)‐gallocatechin gallate, total chlorophyll and carotenoid. As the baking temperature rose, the content of tea polyphenols, gallic acid, catechins, caffeine, soluble sugar and polyphenols/amino acids ratio obviously decreased. A total of 40 kinds of volatiles were detected in these six tea samples. A model for aroma type discrimination was successfully established based on partial least squares‐discriminant analysis (PLS‐DA). The bioactive compounds of the pseudobulbs of Pleione bulbocodioides were isolated, purified, and identified using modern spectroscopic techniques, which identified seven butanedioic acid compounds. Compounds 1-3, 5, and 6 were isolated for the first time from Pleione bulbocodioides. The antifungal activity of the seven compounds was evaluated through cytotoxic activity assays, revealing that compound 4, militarine, exhibited moderate inhibitory activity against Phoma herbarum, with an effective concentration (EC50) of 68.575 μg/mL. We get further deep insight into the antifungal mechanism of militarine against Phoma herbarum through electron microscopy, transcriptomics, and changes in physiological and biochemical indicators. Transcriptomic sequencing revealed 216 significantly upregulated differentially expressed genes and 277 significantly downregulated differentially expressed genes. Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis showed that differentially expressed genes were involved in pathways related to secondary metabolism, biosynthesis, membrane components, nitrogen metabolism, and ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter, suggesting that militarine may inhibit the normal growth of hyphae through these pathways. Laboratory and pilot scale pretreatment processes were assessed for empty fruit bunch (EFB) at different morphologies using anhydrous ammonia pretreatment (AAP). The AAP was used to deconstruct the complex structure of EFB through physical and chemical reaction to promote efficient conversion of the carbohydrates to monomeric sugars. Different morphologies of EFB samples used were unpressed EFB (UE), pressed EFB (PE), pressed and shredded EFB (PES), and lastly pressed, shredded and ground EFB (PESG). The APP process was optimized using a 1.0 L laboratory scale reactor and further scaled up to a 22 L pressure vessel (AAPB). AAP-PESG contained 76.2%, and AAP-PES contained 75.5% of structural carbohydrates, showing no significant difference. AAPUE showed the lowest glucan conversion of 28%. The optimal laboratory conditions adopted were 135 °C, 30 min, moist to dry EFB loading of 2:1, and ammonia to dry EFB loading of 1:1. Glucan conversion of AAP-PES were 87%, 80%, and 62% at 1%, 3%, and 6% glucan loadings, respectively. The AAP-PES detected acetamide concentration at 7.3 mg/g, while AAPB-PES was only at 4.4 mg/g. A continually increasing demand for papermaking materials and simultaneously growing disproportion between the request for fiber and the limited resources of wood have forced scientists and the papermaking industry to search for the new sources of fibrous raw materials. A new promising set of raw materials for papermaking comes from energy crops. This paper presents Sida hermaphrodita Rusby L., as a non-woody raw material for papermaking. From the studies of chemical composition, it follows that cellulose content of more than 40% characterizes phloem of stems and branches, whereas in xylem exhibits more than 32%. The lowest is the concentration of cellulose in leaves and flowers of Sida. The content of lignin is lower than 24% and 16% in stem xylem and phloem, respectively. In Sida, hemicelluloses and mineral substances stand for being not more than 30% and 2%, respectively. The morphology of Sida cells is similar to hardwood, with fiber length of 0.383, 0.470 and 1.025 mm for parenchyma, xylem, and phloem, respectively. The chemical composition of Sida hermaphrodita together with its morphological characteristics make this raw material suitable for a production of papers intended for printing, writing and tissue. The article addresses one of the most significant topics in the field of weapons science, i.e., the historical Damascus blades of the Indo-Persian region. By combining previously known typological and characteristic features of oriental Damascus blades with variations in the charge and fluxes of crucible melting, observed in the historical period from the 16th to the 19th centuries, a pattern regarding the presence or absence of specific process impurities in patterned steels was established. These steels were found exclusively in the Indo-Persian region. In terms of chemical composition, not all crucible steels with a pattern on the surface of the blade can be considered Damascus when compared with the finest examples of Oriental weapons. The chemical characteristics of Damascus blades in terms of the quantitative content of process impurities are described in detail and confirmed with specific examples. New data is published on the chemical composition of 20 pieces of Damascus steel weapons dated to the 17th–19th centuries, including a shamshir with the marks of Asad (Asadullah) Isfahan. The study presents various types of damascene patterns from private collections of K. Khaydakov and D. Sukhanov, with the appropriate chemical composition. It was concluded that, based on the chemical composition, macro-, and microstructure, Damascus crucible steels of the Indo-Persian region should be classified as a distinct group of historical blade steels manufactured prior to the decline of local technologies and the influence of European metallurgical production in the Indo-Persian region. Objective: Edible seaweeds, valued for their rich content ofbioactive compounds, have gained recognition in complementary medicine beyond their traditional role in the food and pharmaceutical sectors. Notable examples include Ulva rigida C.Agardh and Grateloupia turuturu Yamada. These seaweeds offer a promising avenue for exploring their bioactive potential in medical and dietary contexts. Methods: Hexane extracts were prepared to elucidate the fatty acid composition of seaweeds via Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry analyses. Subsequently, investigations were conducted to assess the cytotoxicity on human breast cancer cell lines (MCF-7 and MDA-MB-23İ), as well as examine the antimicrobial and anti-cholinesterase activities of extracts obtained using hexane, dichloromethane:methanol (CH2Cl2:MeOH, 1:1), methanol (MeOH), and water solvents. Results: The most abundant substances for the U. rigida and G. turuturu species were hexadecanoic acid, octadecenoic acid, and erucic acid compounds. The CH2Cl2:MeOH (1:1) extract of G. turuturu was found as the highest toxicity on MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells (IC50: 28.7 µg/mL). G. turuturu extracts showed inhibition on E. coli and C. albicans. The hexane extracts of U. rigida and G. turuturu inhibited AChE enzyme in both algae species. Minor millets regarded as storehouse of proteins, dietary fibres, minerals, vitamins, fatty acids and phytochemicals have nutrigenomic role in human health. Determination of such components is an essential approach to choose highly efficient millet grains. Hence, this study has estimated and compared the mineral composition, proximates, functional properties, phytochemical and in vitro pharmacological properties of the seed grains of Setaria italica (Foxtail millet), Echinochloa frumentacea (Barnyard millet) , Paspalum scrobiculatum (Kodo millet) , and Panicum sumatrense (Little millet) cultivated in Kolli hills of Tamil Nadu, India. Mineral analysis revealed the presence of calcium, copper, magnesium, manganese, iron, phosphorus, potassium, and zinc. Occurrence of high content of protein, carbohydrate and vitamin E were also ascertained. The proximate composition (moisture, ash, crude lipid, and crude fibre) and functional features (water and oil absorbing capacity, bulk density, foaming and emulsifying property) of these millet flours have demonstrated their potential in food product formulation, particularly weaning foods. Total phenolic content was ranged between 53.28±0.71 and 110.42 ± 1.42 mg GAE g−1 of dried extract; and total flavonoid content was in the range of 23.80±1.09 to 65.1 ± 1.23 mg QE g−1 of dried extract in the studied millets. Significant free radical scavenging and enzyme inhibition activity was observed in P. sumatrense (IC 50 of 128.92±1.18 µg mL−1 in DPPH assay), E. frumentacea (IC 50 of 120.89±1.46 µg mL−1 in ABTS assay and 126.52±0.78 µg mL−1 in tyrosinase inhibition assay), S. italica (IC 50 of 119.94±1.40 µg mL−1 in SO radical scavenging assay) and P. scrobiculatum (IC 50 of 101.59±1.27 µg mL−1 in α-amylase enzyme inhibition assay and 94.63±0.78 µg mL−1 in α-glucosidase enzyme inhibition assay). The aim of this study was to compare Fe, Zn, Mn, Al and Li contents in table potato tubers, obtained from seven potato cultivars with different flesh colour, and one cultivar characterised by light-coloured flesh. The study material consisted of potato tubers produced in a one-factor field experiment carried out at the Agricultural Experimental Station in Zawady belonging to the University of Siedlce, Poland (52°03′ N, 22°33′ E) in 2021–2023. The following cultivars were tested: Eurostar (light yellow flesh), Rote Emmalie and Herbie 26 (red flesh), Provita, Salad Blue, Blaue Annelise, Vitelotte Noire and Bora Valley (purple and blue flesh). The study showed that the genetic characteristics of the cultivars determined the nutrient content and uptake with tuber yield. Of the tested minerals which are important for human nutrition (Fe, Zn, Mn), red and purple cultivars accumulated more Fe than the light yellow-fleshed Eurostar. Zn content was the highest in red-fleshed cultivars compared with light and purple-fleshed cultivars. Mn content was the highest in the tubers of the light yellow-fleshed Eurostar and lowest in red Rote Emmalie. Naphthenic acid corrosion is a well-recognized factor contributing to corrosion in the construction of offshore industry pipelines. To mitigate the corrosive effects, minor quantities of alloying elements are introduced into the steel. This research specifically explores the corrosion effects arising from immersing low-carbon steel, specifically A333 Grade 6, in a naphthenic acid solution. Various weight percentages of niobium were incorporated, and the resulting properties were observed. It was noted that the addition of 2% niobium in low-carbon steel exhibited the least mass loss and a lower corrosion rate after a 12 h immersion in naphthenic acid. Microstructural analysis using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed small white particles, indicating the presence of oil sediment residue, along with corrosion pits. Following the addition of 2% niobium, the occurrence of corrosion pits markedly decreased, and only minor voids were observed. Additionally, the chemical composition analysis using energy-dispersive X-Ray analysis (EDX) showed that the black spot exhibited the highest percentage of carbon, resembling high corrosion attack. Meanwhile, the whitish regions with low carbon content indicated the lowest corrosion attack. The results demonstrated that the addition of 2% niobium yielded optimal properties for justifying corrosion effects. Generally, rejuvenators are used to supply missing components of aged asphalt, reverse the aging process, and are widely used in asphalt maintenance and recycling. However, compared with traditional rejuvenators, bio-oil rejuvenators are environmentally friendly, economical and efficient. This study looks into the effect of the three different bio-oils, namely sunflower oil, soybean oil, and palm oil, on the physical properties, rheological properties and chemical components of aged asphalt at different dosages. The asphalt physical properties and Dynamic Shear Rheological (DSR) test results show that with the increase in bio-oil, the physical properties and rheological properties of rejuvenated asphalt are close to those of virgin asphalt, but the high-temperature rutting resistance needs to be further improved. The results of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) show that the carbonyl and sulfoxide indices of rejuvenated asphalt are much lower than those of aged asphalt. Around 10.5 million tonnes of sheep milk are produced worldwide, and around 3.1 million tonnes in Europe. In Europe, sheep milk production has stagnated slightly in recent years and currently accounts for around 1/3 of the global production. Due to its high content of dry matter, milk fat, total protein and casein, sheep milk is an excellent raw material for cheese production. Milk processing and cheese making are not only economically important, but also part of the cultural heritage based on a long tradition, often taking place in rural and less developed areas. Milk production and quality are very complex and are influenced by numerous factors, the most important of which are breed, feeding and body condition, parity and stage of lactation, milking and udder health, and environmental factors. In addition, different types of stress such as heat stress, nutritional stress, weaning stress, shearing stress, stress of regrouping, etc. have a significant impact on the welfare and health of the sheep as well as on the quantity of milk produced, its chemical composition, processing characteristics and the economic efficiency of the flock. In recent years, due to climate change, there has been an increasing number of studies on the effects of heat stress on the reproductive and production characteristics of sheep, as well as on their welfare and health. In addition, heat stress is often associated to the feed and the lack of water. The effects of stress are particularly pronounced in extensive sheep farming and milk production, which are prevalent in sheep farming. Zuccagnia punctata Cav. (“jarilla poposa”) is a monotypic argentine native medicinal plant used by indigenous communities for the treatment of several pathologies. The pharmacological properties have been scientifically validated and its potential use in phytocosmetic and pharmaceutic industry as antiaged, hypoglycemic, anti-inflammatory, antitumoral, antioxidant, antibacterial and antimicotic has been previously demonstrated. However, the species has a low propagation rate in natural conditions and has been included in the preliminary red list of endangered plants in category 3. Therefore, it is necessary to develop methodologies leading to its conservation and propagation to achieve its sustainable use. The objective of this work is to perform a micropropagation protocol for Z. punctata species for the sustainable use and conservation of this species. Furthermore, the study evaluated also the impact of “in vitro” propagation on the content of bioactive compounds of ethanolic extracts obtained from Z. punctata plants obtained “in vitro” with collected wild plants. Seeds have been used as mother material. The seed germination to obtain explants were performed on Murashige and Skoog medium (MS) without plant growth regulators (PGRs) containing sucrose, agar, and ascorbic acid. The same medium was employed for the multiplication of shoots. “In vitro” rooting was achieved in liquid and semisolid medium, and a higher yield was obtained in the latter. The plants were transferred into commercial substrate and acclimatized in a greenhouse. The micropropagated plants (MP) had a high content of total phenolic compounds similar to those obtained from wild adult plants (WAP) collected in the Monte Desert. The flavonoid content of MP was higher than that of WAP. The main chalcones identified in WAP, 2′,4′ dihydroxychalcone (DHC) and 2′,4′-dihydroxy-3′-methoxychalcone (DHMC) were also present in the MP with a rate 1/1, and 1/3 in WAP. The extracts obtained from the MP showed antioxidant, antiinflammatory and antimicrobial activity, similar to WAP. The “in vitro” propagation and acclimatization of Z. punctata constitutes a fundamental tool to achieve large-scale multiplication of this species in the future and the sustainable production of bioactive compounds with commercial applications. The chemical composition of Sedum ewersii Ledeb., a plant indigenous to Kazakhstan and traditionally utilized in folk medicine, was comprehensively investigated, with a focus on its various plant parts. Fresh samples collected in May 2023 from the Almaty region underwent hydrodistillation to extract volatile components, followed by analysis using gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometric detection, which identified a total of 71 compounds across different plant parts, including the root (underground part), root (aerial part), leaf, stem, and flowering aerial part. The predominant biologically active compound identified across all plant parts was Ethyl α-D-glucopyranoside. Monoterpenes, recognized as primary secondary metabolites, were notably abundant in each plant part, with varying compositions: the root (underground part) contained 28.58% aliphatic monoterpenes, 54.41% oxygenated monoterpenoids, 1.42% diterpenoids, and 15.59% other compounds; the root (aerial part) exhibited 1.34% aliphatic monoterpenes, 31.28% oxygenated monoterpenoids, 6.16% diterpenoids, and 61.22% other compounds; the stem and leaves showed 3.06% aliphatic monoterpenes, 21.49% oxygenated monoterpenoids, 17.99% diterpenoids, and 57.46% other compounds; and the flowering aerial part displayed 8.20% aliphatic monoterpenes, 53.18% oxygenated monoterpenoids, 23.75% diterpenoids, and 14.87% other compounds. Diterpenes, particularly Phytol, were prominently present in the leaf, stem, and flowering aerial parts. Additionally, a diverse array of organic acids, ketones, and phenolic compounds were identified across the plant parts, each potentially offering distinct pharmacological benefits. The presence of exclusive compounds in specific plant parts, such as Dihydroxyacetone in the root (aerial part), underscored the pharmacological diversity of S. ewersii. This study provides valuable insights into the chemical diversity and pharmacological potential of S. ewersii, suggesting promising applications in pharmaceutical and medicinal fields. Further research aimed at elucidating the individual and synergistic pharmacological effects of these compounds is crucial to fully harness the therapeutic benefits of this plant. Corn (Zea mays L.) is an essential gramineous food crop. Traditionally, corn wastes have primarily been used in feed, harmless processing, and industrial applications. Except for corn silk, these wastes have had limited medicinal uses. However, in recent years, scholars have increasingly studied the medicinal value of corn wastes, including corn silk, bracts, husks, stalks, leaves, and cobs. Hyperlipidemia, characterized by abnormal lipid and/or lipoprotein levels in the blood, is the most common form of dyslipidemia today. It is a significant risk factor for atherosclerosis and can lead to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases if severe. According to the authors' literature survey, corn wastes play a promising role in regulating glucose and lipid metabolism. This article reviews the mechanisms and material basis of six different corn wastes in regulating dyslipidemia, aiming to provide a foundation for the research and development of these substances. Protein, despite its high cost, is crucial for the growth of mud crabs. To optimize protein efficacy, carbohydrates are used combined. In an attempt to minimize the expensive protein- rich feed and reduce the production costs of crab cultivation, an innovative method has been used, namely the apartment system. Thus, the current study aimed to investigate the effects of various levels of protein and carbohydrate in the feed on the carcass, chemical composition, and RNA/DNA ratio of mud crabs undergoing fattening in an apartment system. This experiment used a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and three replicates consisting of different protein and carbohydrate levels: A (P 60%- C 20%), B (P 50%-C 30%), C (P 40%-C 40%), D (P 30%-C 50%), and E (P 20%- C 60%). The study utilized monosex mud crabs (S. olivacea) with an average weight of 129.59± 0.98 grams. A total of 150 crabs were placed individually in crab boxes measuring 40 x 36 x 16cm3 at a feeding rate of 5% body weight, and the feeding frequency was two times/day over a period of 60 days. The results showed that the levels of protein and carbohydrate feed had a significant effect (P< 0.05) on the protein content, meat carcass, and RNA/DNA ratio of mud crabs, but had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on the levels of fat, crude fiber, and nitrogen free extract (NFE) mud crab. Protein and carbohydrates levels of 40% produced the highest values for protein content (68.25%), meat carcass (51.25%), and RNA/DNA ratio (1.52ng/nµL) of the mud crabs. Other ranges of body chemical composition values for mud crabs include fat content (14.10- 15.92%), crude fiber (1.16-1.54%), and NFE (2.11- 2.44%). Thus, protein and carbohydrates levels of 40% in feed can improve the quality of the mud crab meat. The article presents the results of the preliminary experimental research and analysis of the structure of samples of clay solid bricks from six historical buildings erected in Poland in the years 1300 to 1910. Images obtained with a scanning electron microscope; parameters characterizing the pore space of the ceramic material, which were obtained using mercury porosimetry; and chemical composition identified using an energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, were analyzed. The test results showed that as the age of the brick increases, the homogeneity of its structure decreases, the chemical composition of all samples is quite similar, and in the tested samples, large disproportions in the percentage of pore width in individual ranges can be observed. An indicator P-index useful in comparing the studied structures was proposed, based on the knowledge of the share of the pores' width within the adopted ranges. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: Carotenoids are organic compounds with various important functions in animals. Most animals obtain their carotenoids only from their food. House flies are common pests with a worldwide distribution. Their larvae feed on organic matter that may vary substantially in its carotenoid composition. This study examines if the carotenoid composition in the body of adult house flies is related to the composition in the larval feed. House fly larvae were reared on diets that differed in carotenoid composition. HPLC analysis of the emerging adult flies indicates that the carotenoid composition in adult house flies was similar, but not identical, to the composition in the larval feed. These results suggest that carotenoid composition in adult flies may be used to estimate the composition in their natal habitat and therefore may be used to identify potential sources of house fly infestations. Also, the feed of house fly larvae, used for animal feed, should be carefully considered. Carotenoids are common and diverse organic compounds with various functional roles in animals. Except for certain aphids, mites, and gall midges, all animals only acquire necessary carotenoids through their diet. The house fly (Musca domestica) is a cosmopolitan pest insect that populates diverse habitats. Its larvae feed on organic substrates that may vary in carotenoid composition according to their specific content. We hypothesized that the carotenoid composition in the adult house fly's body would reflect the carotenoid composition in the larval feed. House fly larvae were reared on diets that differed in carotenoid composition. HPLC analysis of the emerging adult flies indicate that the carotenoid composition of adult house flies is related, but not identical, to the carotenoid composition in its natal substrate. These findings may be developed to help identify potential sources of house fly infestations. Two new triterpenes mayteneri A (1), mayteneri B (2), and seven known compounds (3-9) were isolated from stems of Maytenus hookeri Loes. The chemical structures of compounds 1 and 2 were established by 1D, 2D NMR, HRESIMS analysis, and calculating electronic circular dichroism (ECD). The structures of known compounds 3-9 were determined by comparison of their spectral with those reported. This study evaluated the chemical composition, mineral content, and in vitro dry and organic matter digestibility of two forage legume species from arid pastures in northeastern Morocco, namely S. spinosissima subsp. capitata and S. pallida. This is the first report assessing the nutritive value of these two pasture species. Results revealed a wide variation between selected Sulla species; in particular, the growth stage had a significant effect (P < 0.05) on most chemical traits and digestibility parameters. Comparatively, S. spinosissima had higher organic matter digestibility (72.4 %OM) at the vegetative stage in direct correlation with lower acid detergent fiber (ADF) (24.2 %DM), lower condensed tannin, (CT) (0.27 %DM), and higher crude protein (24 %DM). Conversely, S. pallida plants with a considerable amount of ADF (40.3 %DM) and CT (4.5 %DM) had lower organic matter digestibility (56.1 %OM). Both species are mineral-rich and contain satisfactory mean (g/kgDM) levels of calcium: 23.25 in S. spinosissima and 13.75 in S. pallida, and phosphorus: 1.01 in S. spinosissima and 1.53 in S. pallida. Additionally, chemical analysis of some anti-nutritional factors revealed low concentrations (mg/g) of phytate (0.19), oxalate (0.18), and nitrate (0.21), even at the flowering stage, compared with others pasture plants. The results of the present study suggest the suitability of both Sulla species, particularly S. spinosissima, for domestication to enhance pasture productivity to support small ruminant nutritional needs in arid pastures native to the Mediterranean region. The present research explored the antioxidant capacities and phytochemical profile of Cistus ladanifer collected from North Morocco (Tangier), to identify potential medicinal sources of antioxidants. The antioxidant qualities of the extracts were assessed using a variety of analytical methods, such as 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), and oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC). Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were employed to examine the chemical constituents present in the plant material. Finally, ICP-AES analysis was performed to characterize the nutritional components of the extract, providing detailed insights into its valuable nutrient content. The findings revealed that the methanolic extract displayed considerable antioxidant potential, as evidenced by its powerful scavenging activities against DPPH, with an IC50 value of 0.115 ± 0.003 mg/ml and IC50 of 0.251 ± 0.006 mg/ml ABTS radicals. Moreover, it displayed a higher reducing power using the FRAP test and excellent ORAC values, with 62.74 ± 0.07 mg/g and 40.21 ± 0.7 mg/g dry weight of extract, respectively. This research also assessed the total phenolic and total flavonoid compounds, while tannins were found in high concentrations in the methanolic extract, with 69.08 ± 1.69 mg of GAE/g dW, 47.86 ± 1.76 mg of QE/g dW, and 354.98 ± 15.29 mg of TAE/g dW, respectively. The presence of phenols, benzene rings, aromatic compounds, ethers, and methylene chains was verified by FTIR analysis. Finally, HPLC-MS and GC-MS analyses revealed a rich profile of bioactive phytochemicals. Introduction1: The dry climate and water scarcity in most areas of Iran caused to serious restriction in planting fodder. Therefore, it is very important to find new fodder sources to feed ruminants in order to reduce the ration costs. One of the new sources of fodder that may have a favorable nutritional value are plants of the Paulowniaceae family in China, East Asia and some parts of Iran. Several types of Paulownia are known in the world. These plants are known for their high growth rate and intense photosynthesis, which are specific to C4 plants, and with wide leaves with a diameter of about 90 cm. The commercial production of Paulownia wood generates a large quantity of leaves, which are typically used as natural fertilizers. At the age of about 6 to 8 years, the production leaf of each Paulownia tree reaches about 100 kg. When the leaves have a favorable nutritional value, they can be used as fodder in feeding ruminants. In Iran, there has been no study on the nutritional value of Paulownia leaves for use in animal feed. Therefore, the aim of this research was to investigate the chemical composition of Paulownia leaves and the chemical composition, gas production parameters, digestion and fermentation characteristics of the silages from the mixture of different levels of Paulownia leaves (Tebjoo hybrid variety) and fodder corn in vitro. Materials and Methods: The corn forage and Paulownia leaves (Tebjoo hybrid variety) were prepared. At first, the chemical composition of corn forage and Paulownia leaf samples was determined based on the conventional methods. Then, both forages were chopped into 2-4 cm sizes using a hand chopper for silage preparation. Experimental treatments included silages containing different ratios of fodder corn and Paulownia leaves (0:100, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75 and 0:100). The materials were compacted in the plastic containers and the silage period lasted 60 days. Determining the chemical composition of fresh fodders and the nutritional value of experimental silages including chemical composition, in vitro gas production and fermentation parameters, digestibility and enzyme activity were carried out based on a completely random design. Results and Discussion: Results indicated that dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), ether extract (EE), lignin, non-fibrer carbohydrates (NFC) and water soluble carbohydrates content of fresh Paulownia leaves were 266, 911, 173, 402, 201, 35.5, 86.4, 404 and 91.2 g/kg DM, respectively. The mentioned chemical composition in Paulownia silage were 273, 902, 164, 393, 191, 38.8, 74.5, 386 and 25.4 g/kg DM, respectively. With increasing the proportion of Paulownia leaf in silage, DM, CP, lignin, EE, ammonia nitrogen concentration increased linearly (P<0.05). However, OM, NDF and ADF decreased linearly (P<0.05). By increasing the ratio of Paulownia leaf to corn in the silage, in vitro gas production (GP) in 24, 36 and 48 h, GP potential (coefficient b) and short-chain volatile fatty acids concentration decreased linearly (P<0.05), although it linearly increased ammonia nitrogen concentration and microbial protein synthesis (P<0.05). The carboxymethyl cellulase and filter paper degrading activities decreased linearly with increasing the inclusion level of Paulownia leaf in silage (P<0.05). However, ruminal alpha-amylase and protease activity showed a linear increase (P<0.05). Conclusion: The present study showed that the Paulownia leaf of Tebjoo hybrid variety has a favorable nutritional value as a new forage source in animal nutrition. Also, the preparation of silages including different ratio of Paulownia leaves and corn is recommended for animal feeding in the conditions of significant shortage of protein resources in the country. There is a high interest in utilizing natural bioactive products derived from plants as a substitute for synthetic chemicals in the industry. This research focuses on the phytochemical composition of essential oils (EOs) of Ammi visnaga L. and Trachyspermum ammi L and their insecticidal activity against Sitophilus oryzae (L.), a common pest found in stored cereals. The EOs were extracted through steam distillation and analyzed using gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The EOs of A. visnaga consisted of twenty-four components, with Abietadiene (41.23%) being the most abundant, followed by linalool (25.54%) and limonene (19.04%). On the other hand, the EOs of T. ammi consisted of twenty-eight main components, with isothymol being the most abundant (51.88%). The results revealed that the EOs of T. Ammi (DL50 = 0.1 µL EOs/L of air) were more toxic than A. visnaga (0.38 µL EOs/L of air), with the toxicity varying based on doses and exposure periods. To further understand the molecular mechanisms underlying this activity, molecular docking and dynamic simulations were performed using the major chemical constituents of the oils. The simulation results indicated that the major compounds, Abietadiene and isothymol, interact with the catalytic sites of the target proteins, inhibiting acetylcholinesterase and chitin synthase. These interactions form energetically favorable systems that remain stable throughout the molecular dynamic period. This research provides valuable insights into the potential of these EOs as natural insecticides and highlights the importance of molecular modeling in understanding the biological activities of plant-derived compounds. Tea polyphenols are a class of polyphenolic mixtures with phenolic hydroxyl structure in tea plants, which are the main functional component of tea, and the content is relatively high in green tea. Tea polyphenol bioactivity research gains popularity, in the functional food, drug development, preservation and preservation of preservatives and other areas with broad application prospects. Tea polyphenols have a variety of biological activities such as antioxidant, anticancer, hypolipidemic, blood sugar regulation, antibacterial, anti-radiation and so on. Their mechanism of action mainly includes regulating protein kinase B (AKT), nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kB), epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR), adenylate activated protein kinase (AMPK) and other signalling pathways and related proteins. By analyzing the relevant research literature in recent years, we review the material properties, biological activities, mechanisms and applications of tea polyphenols, with a view to providing reference for the development of tea polyphenol-containing functional foods and natural medicines. The decomposition of plant litter, most of which is found in forests, is an important element of the global carbon cycle, as a result of which carbon enters the atmosphere in the form of not only CO2 but also volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Although the formation of litter is associated with autumn cooling, in the spring, there is a very intense fall of faded inflorescences of woody plants. This study examined the chemical composition of the litter and VOCs emitted from decaying inflorescences of four species of forest-forming trees: silver birch, European hornbeam, black alder and aspen. All litter emissions consisted of 291 VOCs, mainly terpenes actively participating in atmospheric processes. The detection of a number of typical mushroom metabolites, such as 1-octen-3-ol, known as "mushroom alcohol", and alkyl sulphides, suggests that inflorescence-derived VOCs are a mixture of components of plant and microbial origin. In methanol extracts of the fallen inflorescences of all types, 263 organic compounds were identified, the majority of which were related to carbohydrates. Their share in the extracts was 72–76%. In general, the composition of the extractive compounds indicates the easy availability of this material for assimilation by various types of destructors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

At present, there are no data in the scientific literature on studies aimed at characterizing Passiflora caerulea L. growing in Bulgaria. The present study aimed to investigate the metabolic profile and elemental composition of the leaves and pulp of this Passiflora, as well as to evaluate the antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities of its leaf and pulp extracts. The results showed that the pulp predominantly contained the essential amino acid histidine (7.81 mg g−1), while it was absent in the leaves, with the highest concentration being tryptophan (8.30 mg g−1). Of the fatty acids, palmitoleic acid predominated both in the pulp and in the leaves. A major sterol component was β-sitosterol. Fructose (7.50%) was the predominant sugar in the pulp, while for the leaves, it was glucose—1.51%. Seven elements were identified: sodium, potassium, iron, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc. The highest concentrations of K and Mg were in the pulp (23,946 mg kg−1 and 1890 mg kg−1) and leaves (36,179 mg kg−1 and 5064 mg kg−1). According to the DPPH, FRAP and CUPRAC methods, the highest values for antioxidant activity were found in 70% ethanolic extracts of the leaves, while for the ABTS method, the highest value was found in 50% ethanolic extracts. In the pulp, for all four methods, the highest values were determined at 50% ethanolic extracts. Regarding the antibacterial activity, the 50% ethanolic leaf extracts were more effective against the Gram-positive bacteria. At the same time, the 70% ethanolic leaf extract was more effective against Gram-negative bacteria such as Salmonella enteritidis ATCC 13076. The leaf extracts exhibited higher anti-inflammatory activity than the extracts prepared from the pulp. The obtained results revealed that P. caerulea is a plant that can be successfully applied as an active ingredient in various nutritional supplements or cosmetic products. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The confused flour beetle, Tribolium confusum du Val, is one of the cosmopolitan and polyphagous storage insect pests. The frequent application of chemical insecticides has resulted in several side effects, including threats to human health and non-target organisms and the resistance of insect pests. In the current study, the fumigant toxicity and feeding deterrence potential of Artemisia fragrans Willd. essential oil on T. confusum adults were investigated. The essential oil was rich in terpenic compounds, in which α-thujone (27.8%) and 1,8-cineole (22.8%) were dominant. The essential oil displayed significant fumigant toxicity on T. confusum, where a concentration of 35.3 μL/L caused 100% mortality of the treated adults after 48 h. The LC30 and LC40 values (lethal concentrations to kill 30% and 40% of tested insects: 15.1 and 18.4 μL/L, respectively) significantly decreased the nutritional indices of the pest, including the consumption index, relative consumption rate, and relative growth rate. The feeding deterrence index of the essential oil were calculated as being 62.29 and 48.66% for the concentrations of 15.1 and 18.4 μL/L after 5 days, respectively. Accordingly, A. fragrans essential oil can be considered an efficient, available, and natural alternative to detrimental chemical pesticides in the management of T. confusum. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The waste consisting of banana peel represents a significant fraction of the processing industry of this fruit, characterizing an environmental problem. On the other hand, banana peels contain several minerals and nutrients that are beneficial to health. In this sense, the objective of this work was to study the thin layer drying of green banana peel waste at different temperatures (40, 60, and 80 °C) and to evaluate the physicochemical and antioxidant properties of the dehydrated product. The study of drying was carried out by fitting empirical models to experimental data, calculating the drying constant and the effective diffusivity. The final product was evaluated for antioxidant activity and color degradation in relation to the in natura product. The drying constant and the effective diffusivity showed the expected behavior in relation to temperature. The heat flow for 60 and 80 °C was 11.53 and 19.25 W, respectively. Dehydrated products at temperatures of 60 and 80 °C have greater antioxidant power compared to the in natura sample. The sample that demonstrated the best results was the one obtained at a temperature of 80 °C, and presented in its centesimal composition 6.31, 4.40, 9.48, 2.52, 9.01, and 68.28 g/100 g for moisture, proteins, fibers, lipids, ash, and carbohydrates, respectively. As for the mineral content, 55.19, 293.53, 21.33, 229.81, and 8859.84 mg/100 g were found for calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe), sodium (Na), and potassium (K), respectively. Since ancient times, Aloe vera L. (AV) has attracted scientific interest because of its multiple cosmetic and medicinal properties, attributable to compounds present in leaves and other parts of the plant. The collected literature data show that AV and its products have a beneficial influence on human health, both by topical and oral use, as juice or an extract. Several scientific studies demonstrated the numerous biological activities of AV, including, for instance, antiviral, antimicrobial, antitumor, and antifungal. Moreover, its important antidepressant activity in relation to several diseases, including skin disorders (psoriasis, acne, and so on) and prediabetes, is a growing field of research. This comprehensive review intends to present the most significant and recent studies regarding the plethora of AV’s biological activities and an in-depth analysis exploring the component/s responsible for them. Moreover, its morphology and chemical composition are described, along with some studies regarding the single components of AV available in commerce. Citrus fruits, renowned for their abundant of phytochemicals and bioactive compounds, hold a prominent position as commercially grown fruits with health-promoting properties. In this context, tangerine peel (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, CRP) is garnering attention as a byproduct of citrus fruits. Within the framework of the circular economy, CRP has emerged as a focal point due to its potential health benefits. CRP, extracted from Citrus reticulata cv. and aged for over three years, has attracted increasing attention for its diverse health-promoting effects, including its anticancer, cardiovascular-protecting, gastrointestinal-modulating, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties. Moreover, CRP positively impacts skeletal health and various physiological functions. This review delves into the therapeutic effects and molecular mechanisms of CRP. The substantial therapeutic potential of CRP highlights the need for further research into its applications in both food and medicine. As a value-added functional ingredient, CRP and its constituents are extensively utilized in the development of food and health supplements, such as teas, porridges, and traditional medicinal formulations. The North Island of New Zealand is a region of high volcanic activity, with significant eruptions over the past. Analogous to past events, future volcanic eruptions would produce a considerable volume of ash and granular soils, covering widespread areas and raising concerns for their disposal and storage. Such deposits, primarily airfall tephra, could be potentially used in geotechnical engineering applications such as foundations, roadway embankments and land reclamations. However, before their use as structural fills can be recommended, detailed laboratory investigations of their physical, chemical, compaction, and geotechnical engineering properties (strength, compressibility, collapsibility, liquefaction potential, etc.) must be conducted. Different tephra deposits can be products of different eruptions, so chemical composition analyses can be combined with the physical, compaction, and engineering properties to characterize such deposits. Accordingly, this paper provides useful insights from physical (grain size, specific gravity, and morphology), chemical (elemental and mineralogy using X-ray fluorescence and X-ray diffraction), and compaction tests (maximum dry density, optimum water content, and particle breakage) for eleven selected volcanic tephra samples sourced from the North Island of New Zealand in the Rotorua, Taupo, and Auckland regions. The relevance of the investigation and creation of a new non-traditional raw material base for wall ceramics for the south of Russia is shown in connection with the decreasing availability of traditional raw materials—loams. Characterizations of the mineral and chemical constituent rock formations of the rocks composing the dumps of coal waste heaps and enrichment plants are given. A serious constraint for the industrial development of coal wastes is the requirement for a great variety of mineral constituents. The chemical and mineralogical compositions and the pre-firing ceramic properties of the waste coal heaps are studied and presented in detail. It is mentioned that fine and thin materials contain coal in an increased amount; due to this, they cannot be considered as the main raw material for the production of wall ceramics. The materials of the medium-sized grain group (2.0–5.0 mm, sifting) can contain up to 2–3% of coal and are most often represented by a mixture of mudstones, siltstones, and sandstones, with the predominance of one or another type of rock. The granulometric composition and the content of large-grained inclusions, molding moisture, plasticity, cohesiveness, desiccation properties, and air shrinkage were studied and determined. It is concluded that the middle group of waste coal heaps in particular are of the greatest interest as a basic raw material for the production of wall ceramic products. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective/background: Different processing methods can maintain quality and ensure access to fish throughout year. In Iran, fish can be major source of affordable dietary protein for human nutrition. Fish (Carangoides armatus) locally known as Gish, is most preferred and highest value commercial food fish species obtained from southern Iran. Methods: This article examined impact of different processes on the physicochemical properties of fresh fish. Results: Highest and lowest values for crude protein reported in fish processed using high temperature short time (HTST) in autoclave (17.51%) and salting (8.47%), respectively (P < .05), compared to (16.69%) for fresh fish (control). Fish processed with 20% salt concluded significantly higher crude fat content (69.45%) (P < .05) followed by samples prepared using 10% salt (68.88%), while lowest value (9.12%) found for fish marinated T1. The results suggested that fish processed with HTST found higher nutritional quality principally due to relatively high content of most needed nutrient--protein. Adopting and encouraging use of autoclave could also be a way of saving energy. Fish components that affected by processes are proximate composition and energy. Conclusions: Changes in the physicochemical and nutritional factors of processed fish affect its final quality. Gish fish (C armatus) caught from the southern regions of Iran had a high percentage of protein and fat, which has a good potential for the growth of children and to prevent stunting. In order to the yield maintenance along with environmental protection, the replacement or combination of chemical fertilizers with organic ones has received increasing attention recently. However, the yield and quality of production in aromatic plants differ from other plants. The present experiment was conducted for 2 years with the aim of evaluating the potential of vermicompost instead of nitrogen fertilizer for the production of geraniums without reducing its perfume quality. Regarded to the macronutrients, essential oil, and shoot yield, geranium treated with 20 ton ha−1 vermicompost and 16 ton ha−1 vermicompost + 40 kg ha−1 nitrogen had the best condition compared to other fertilizer regimes. Geranium is a perennial plant; hence the traits related to plant growth and yield were higher in the second harvest. Besides that, compared to treatments with a high amount of chemical nitrogen, the effects of vermicompost on the quality and quantity of geranium in the second yield were more effective and sustainable. Moreover, these findings suggested that an appropriate proportion of organic substitution not only provides uptake nutrients but also improves the essential oil yield and chemical composition. In fact, increasing the level of vermicompost resulted in improved oxygenated monoterpene content in geranium essential oil. According to the results of this study, cow manure-derived vermicompost could be a suited and sustained replacement for nitrogen inorganic fertilizer without any significant reduction in the quality and quantity of geranium products. Among the raw material production industries that use a large amount of limestone, the effectiveness of limestone usage in the steel production industry has been evaluated and the optimization of limestone addition ratio has been investigated. Based on the past research and development results concerning the CaO added basic sinter production technology, the phenomena of permeability deterioration caused by the excessive CaO addition and the actual operation tests, the multi-component calcium ferrites (SFCA) in sinter that have been currently intensively researched and developed have been evaluated. The reducibility of sinter in blast furnace has so far focused on the lumpy zone up to 1000 °C, but in the future research, it will be necessary focused on the reducibility and permeability in the cohesive zone up to 1000~1500 °C. The current chemical compositions of SFCA has the good reducibility and permeability in the cohesive zone, but the research and development are needed to maintain the appropriate range of CaO (CaO/SiO2 = 1.5~2.0) and further to improve the reducibility and permeability. There is a growing interest in the discovery of novel xanthine oxidase inhibitors for gout prevention and treatment with fewer side effects. This study aimed to identify the xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitory potential and drug-likeness of the metabolites present in the methanolic leaf extract of Anastatica (A.) hierochuntica L. using in vitro and in silico models. The extract-derived metabolites were identified by liquid-chromatography–quadrupole-time-of-flight-mass-spectrometry (LC-QTOF-MS). Molecular docking predicted the XO inhibitory activity of the identified metabolites and validated the best scored in vitro XO inhibitory activities for experimental verification, as well as predictions of their anticancer, pharmacokinetic, and toxic properties; oral bioavailability; and endocrine disruption using SwissADMET, PASS, ProTox-II, and Endocrine Disruptome web servers. A total of 12 metabolites, with a majority of flavonoids, were identified. Rutin, quercetin, and luteolin flavonoids demonstrated the highest ranked docking scores of −12.39, −11.15, and −10.43, respectively, while the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of these metabolites against XO activity were 11.35 µM, 11.1 µM, and 21.58 µM, respectively. In addition, SwissADMET generated data related to the physicochemical properties and drug-likeness of the metabolites. Similarly, the PASS, ProTox-II, and Endocrine Disruptome prediction models stated the safe and potential use of these natural compounds. However, in vivo studies are necessary to support the development of the prominent and promising therapeutic use of A. hierochuntica methanolic-leaf-extract-derived metabolites as XO inhibitors for the prevention and treatment of hyperuricemic and gout patients. Furthermore, the predicted findings of the present study open a new paradigm for these extract-derived metabolites by revealing novel oncogenic targets for the potential treatment of human malignancies. Kombucha is a fermented, acidic beverage that dates back thousands of years as a remedy for various health problems in East Asia. Due to its health benefits, kombucha has gained popularity and attracted the attention of both consumers and researchers. The health benefits of kombucha are predominantly attributed to its bioactive compounds that have antioxidant, antimicrobial, probiotic, and other positive effects owing to fermentation. Many factors such as the type of the substrate used, the symbiotic culture of the bacterial yeast composition, and fermentation conditions influence the extent of these properties. This review focuses on recent developments regarding the bioactive constituents of kombucha and its potential health benefits (antimicrobial, antioxidant, antidiabetic, hepatoprotective effects) as well as its impact on multiple sclerosis, nephrotoxicity, gastric ulceration and gut microbiota. Additionally, the composition of kombucha, alternative uses of its biofilm, and potential toxicity are also discussed. Kombucha is a healthy and safe beverage with multiple health benefits that are primarily related to the presence of bacteria, yeasts, and other bioactive constituents. Fermentation is a clean and low-energy traditional food processing technology. It has many advantages such as improving the nutritional value of food, extending the shelf life of food, and producing special flavor substances. As a marine plant, seaweed does not occupy fresh water and land resources during its growth process. It is a sustainable food source. Many researchers have used fermentation technology to process seaweed to improve its functional activity and produce bioactive substances beneficial to human health. The research status of seaweed and seaweed fermentation technology at home and abroad was reviewed. The changes of γ-aminobutyric acid, polysaccharides, phenols, and other chemical components before and after seaweed fermentation were systematically summarized. The potential functional activities of seaweed fermentation in anti-oxidation, anti-diabetes, anti-thrombosis, and other aspects were summarized. The existing seaweed fermented functional foods were sorted out, and the future development direction of seaweed fermentation was put forward, in order to provide reference for the development of seaweed fermented foods with specific functional activities and the expansion of seaweed product categories. Sunflowers, as a common oil crop, are an important source of fats and proteins and are widely used in both food and pharmacological applications. The chemical components of sunflowers include flavonoids, terpenes, chlorogenic acid, and others, which possess various bioactivities such as antioxidant, antitumor, hypoglycemic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and immune-boosting properties. With the increase in sunflower production, the yield of by-products also increases, mainly including the meal, seed shells, and flower discs formed during the oil extraction process of sunflower seeds. The refined sunflower by-products have high nutritional value, which can improve animal yield, enhance the body's immunity, and increase the economic value of the livestock. The article reviews the main bioactivities and biological functions of sunflower by-products and summarizes their application in different types of animal production, providing a reference for the further development and utilization of sunflowers. Spermacoce alata Aubl. is widely available in the market as traditional Chinese medicine and animal feed, due to its properties of clearing heat and treating malaria and its high-protein and crude fiber content. In this study, the essential oil of S. alata was obtained through hydrodistillation. GC–MS and GC–FID methods were used to identify the chemical components and their relative abundance. Furthermore, the antioxidant capacity was measured using DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP assays, and the inhibitory effects of acetylcholinesterase, α-glucosidase, and β-lactamase were also evaluated. A total of 67 compounds were identified, with the major constituents being palmitic acid (30.74%), linoleic acid (16.13%), and phenylheptatriyne (8.07%). The essential oil exhibited moderate antioxidant activity against DPPH (IC50 > 10 mg/mL), while the IC50 value for the ABTS assay was 3.84 ± 2.12 mg/mL and the FRAP assay value was 87.22 ± 12.22 µM/g. Additionally, the essential oil showed moderate anti-acetylcholinesterase activity (IC50 = 286.0 ± 79.04 μg/mL), significant anti-α-glucosidase activity (IC50 = 174.7 ± 13.12 μg/mL), and potent anti-β-lactamase activity (IC50 = 37.56 ± 3.48 μg/mL). To investigate the effect of the chemical composition of a metal–organic crosslinker on the performances of fracturing fluid in high-temperature conditions, four zirconium (Zr) crosslinkers and one aluminum–zirconium (Al-Zr) crosslinker with a polyacrylamide were used. The crosslinkers possessed the same Zr concentration, but they differed in component amounts and the order of the addition of the crosslinker components, leading to different chemical compositions in the crosslinkers. The fracturing fluids prepared by different tested crosslinkers were compared in terms of properties of rheological behavior, sand-carrying ability, microstructure, and gel breaking characteristics. The results showed that the fracturing fluids prepared by zirconium lactic acid, ethanediamine, and sorbitol crosslinkers offered the slowest viscosity development and highest final viscosity compared to the zirconium lactic acid crosslinker and the zirconium lactic acid and ethanediamine crosslinker. The zirconium sorbitol, lactic acid, and ethanediamine crosslinker exhibited a faster crosslinking rate and a higher final viscosity than the zirconium lactic acid, ethanediamine, and sorbitol crosslinker; the crosslinker showed crosslinking density and crosslinking reactivity, resulting in more crosslinking sites and a higher strength in the fracturing fluid. The Al-Zr-based crosslinker possessed better properties in temperature and shear resistance, viscoelasticity, shear recovery, and sand-carrying ability than the Zr-based crosslinker due to the synergistic crosslinking effect of aluminum and zirconium ions. The tertiary release gelation mechanism of the Al-Zr-based fracturing fluid achieved a temperature resistance performance in the form of continuous crosslinking, avoiding the excessive crosslinking dehydration and reducing viscosity loss caused by early shear damage. These results indicated that the chemical compositions of metal–organic crosslinkers were important factors in determining the properties of fracturing fluids. The solar energy market is predicted to be shared between Si solar cells and third-generation photovoltaics in the future. Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) show the greatest potential to capture a share there as a single junction or in tandem with silicon. Researchers worldwide are looking to optimize the composition of the perovskite film to achieve an optimal bandgap, performance, and stability. Traditional perovskites have a mixture of formamidinium and methyl ammonium as the A-site cation in their ABX3 structure. However, in recent times, the use of cesium and rubidium has become popular for making highly efficient PSCs. A thorough analysis of the performance and stability of double-, triple-, and quadruple-cation PSCs under different environmental conditions was performed in this study. The performance of the device and the films was analyzed by electrical measurements (J–V, dark J–V, EQE), scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, photoluminescence, and X-ray diffraction. The quadruple-cation device with the formula Cs0.07Rb0.03FA0.77MA0.13PbI2.8Br0.2 showed the highest power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 21.7%. However, this device had the least stability under all conditions. The triple-cation device with the formula Cs0.1FA0.6MA0.3PbI2.8Br0.2, with a slightly lower PCE (21.2%), was considerably more stable, resulting in about 30% more energy harvested than that using the other two devices during their life cycle. This study investigates the vapor chemical composition, during the melting step of an electron beam powder bed fusion process using Ti–6Al–4V powder. A phenomenological model is proposed to analyze and discuss the vapor composition. The model focus on the heat dissipation of the molten powder. Vapor stream from the molten powder is compounded by vapor saturation pressure and rapid boiling (ebullition) of the molten pool. The model is based on post mortem results of condensed vapor (thin film), which were analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and glow discharge optical emission spectrometry, providing quantitative and in-depth profile data. It was found that the ratio of [Al] to [Ti] in the vapor stream is influenced by the melting conditions. As the e-beam current increases, the heat dissipation reaches the ebullition domains, and the [Al]/[Ti] ratio tends to the molar ratio of the precursor powder (Ti–6Al–4V), indicating the complete overheating of all the alloy elements. To better understand the mechanism of action of the compounds in the ethanolic extracts of J. nigra leaves and green husks, their binding to CT-DNA was investigated. This study was conducted to elucidate the in vitro protective effect of extracts against chromosomal damage in mitogen-induced human lymphocytes and investigate the possible application of selec+ted extracts as a natural source of polyphenolic compounds. Using HPLC-MS analysis, 103 different compounds were identified as having a higher number of active species, which is consistent with their activity. The frequency of micronuclei (MN) was scored in binucleated cells, and the nuclear proliferation index was calculated. Cyclic voltammetry experiments demonstrate that the nature of the interaction between extracts and CT-DNA is a synergy of electrostatic and intercalative modes, where leaves extracts showed a higher ability to bind to DNA. Extracts showed excellent antioxidant activity. At a concentration of only 4 µg/mL, extract of J. nigra leaves and the green husks reduced the incidence of MN by 58.2% and 64.5%, respectively, compared to control cell cultures. Co-pyrolysis of palm kernel shell (PKS) with polypropylene (PP) was conducted in a fixed-bed reactor. The effects of pyrolysis temperature (400‒700 °C) and biomass:plastic ratio (0‒100%) on product quantity and quality as well as synergism during co-pyrolysis were investigated. Feedstock characterisation results showed that PKS and PP were able to produce sustainable liquid fuel and chemical. The highest bio-oil yield of 67.65 wt% was obtained at 600 °C and PKS:PP ratio of 25:75. A substantial amount of the desired compounds (60.12%) was obtained consisting of hydrocarbons (37.49%) and alcohols (22.23%). Positive synergistic effects on the production of hydrocarbons and esters, as well as the inhibition of acids and ketones, were prominent at 500 °C and PKS:PP ratio of 75:25. The plausible reaction mechanism for formation of major products was proposed. Co-pyrolysis of PKS and PP has generated bio-oil with a larger hydrogen and carbon content and lower oxygen composition compared to PKS bio-oil. Additionally, the resultant bio-oil has a slightly higher calorific value (47.74 MJ/kg) than the calorific value of commercial diesel fuels (46 MJ/kg), thus, offering an alternative for fuel applications. Tritordeum is a new promising cereal derived from wild barley and cultivated durum wheat; such a combination allowed for the transfer of some useful barley traits to the resulting hybrid. In the future, the importance of this cereal can increase, becoming a raw material for the production of various products, including starch. So far, tritordeum starch has attracted little interest from researchers, and therefore, an attempt was undertaken to investigate its properties. Its morphological features, chemical composition, thermal and pasting properties, particle size, and retrogradation kinetics were investigated. These properties were compared to other cereal starches. Tritordeum starch granules resembled wheat starch in shape, and they were characterized by a relatively small size and the highest lipid and non-starch material content among the investigated starches. Tritordeum starch's pasting profile showed a unique character, resulting in high pasting temperature and low, but stable, hot paste viscosity. Also, its rate of retrogradation was the lowest, probably due to the high lipid content, and the retrogradation extent was restricted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The formation of sewage sludge (SS) is directly related to the number of people served by municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), while it is also impacted by increasingly upgraded sewage treatment technologies used in such installations. The presence of SS in our environment raises a number of concerns regarding its proper and sustainable management. In practice, the choice of a specific SS disposal method is determined by a number of factors and, as this research has shown, it may vary significantly both on the national and regional scale. This study analyzed this phenomenon in relation to Poznań County, located in the Wielkopolskie province, Poland. As part of this study, the SS chemical composition was assessed based on data obtained directly from local municipal WWTPs over the course of several years (the last 7 years). The currently used SS management methods were analyzed in terms of SS chemical composition. Moreover, in view of the importance of public involvement in decision-making processes related to sustainable management of SS, an original survey was developed to assess local residents' knowledge concerning SS management in Poznań County. Based on the obtained data, it was found that the generated SS, constituting a form of fertilizer, was primarily used for agricultural and reclamation purposes (over 41% of total SS mass in the case of Poznań County). It is facilitated by the chemical composition of this waste, characterized by high contents of organic matter (380–730.3 g·kg−1), nitrogen (13.3–78 g·kg−1), and calcium (9.5–350 g·kg−1), while the amounts of heavy metals were within the permissible ranges. A survey of the local community revealed that although respondents recognized and could accurately identify SS as a waste, their knowledge concerning harmfulness of this waste and its management was fragmentary. Regardless of the age of the respondents, 48 to 66% of them had no opinion concerning problems related to SS in their area. The youngest people (aged 18–25) showed the lowest level of knowledge on SS and its management. People with elementary education were the least knowledgeable about sewage sludge management. Regardless of the above, a majority of respondents (28–56% for different age groups and 7–18% for various educational backgrounds) were convinced of the validity of agricultural SS use. To sum up, research on sewage sludge is an indispensable element of activities aimed at sustainable development, combining aspects of environmental protection, circular economy, and social awareness and acceptance.
