Abstract

Introduction: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarker quantification provides physicians with a reliable diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the relationship between their concentration and disease course has not been clearly elucidated. This work aimed to investigate the clinical and prognostic significance of Aβ40 CSF levels. Methods: A retrospective cohort of 76 patients diagnosed with AD using a decreased Aβ42/Aβ40 ratio was subclassified into hyposecretors (Aβ40 <7,755 pg/mL), normosecretors (Aβ40 7,755–16,715 pg/mL), and hypersecretors (Aβ40 >16,715 pg/mL). Potential differences in AD phenotype, Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores, and Global Deterioration Scale (GDS) stages were assessed. Correlation tests for biomarker concentrations were also performed. Results: Participants were classified as hyposecretors (n = 22, median Aβ40 5,870.500 pg/mL, interquartile range [IQR] 1,431), normosecretors (n = 47, median Aβ40 10,817 pg/mL, IQR 3,622), and hypersecretors (n = 7, 19,767 pg/mL, IQR 3,088). The distribution of positive phosphorylated Tau (p-Tau) varied significantly between subgroups and was more common in the normo- and hypersecretor categories (p = 0.003). Aβ40 and p-Tau concentrations correlated positively (ρ = 0.605, p < 0.001). No significant differences were found among subgroups regarding age, initial MoCA score, initial GDS stage, progression to the dementia stage, or changes in the MoCA score. Conclusion: In this study, we found no significant differences in clinical symptoms or disease progression in AD patients according to their CSF Aβ40 concentration. Aβ40 was positively correlated with p-Tau and total Tau concentrations, supporting their potential interaction in AD pathophysiology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Introducción. La apendicectomía es la operación de urgencia más común en los servicios quirúrgicos, pudiendo llegar hasta un 48.7% del total de cirugías de emergencia. Objetivo. Validar las escalas RIPASA y Alvarado comparadas con el resultado de histopatología para el diagnóstico de apendicitis aguda en el servicio de emergencia del Hospital Vicente Corral entre enero – diciembre de 2014. Material y métodos. Se realizó un estudio de validación de pruebas diagnósticas, en 365 pacientes diagnosticados de apendicitis aguda, con edades entre 18 y 65 años. Los datos fueron recolectados en un formulario con parámetros de las dos escalas y analizados con el software SPSS 22.0. Resultados. La prevalencia de apendicitis aguda en el Hospital “Vicente Corral Moscoso fue de 26,64% (IC 95%: 25,15% hasta 28,18%), siendo el grupo etario más afectado los menores de 40 años (84,38%), la edad promedio de 32,02 +/- 10,1. Mayor en el sexo masculino 54,79%. Alvarado presentó positividad en 64,38% y RIPASA en 95,34%. La sensibilidad para escala de Alvarado 65%, la especificidad 40%, el VPP 95%, el VPN 6%, LR+ 1,08 y LR- 0,88, con p=0,674. Escala de RIPASA: sensibilidad 96%, la especificidad 20%, el VPP 95%, el VPN 25%, el LR+ 1,2 y el LR- 0,19, p=0,001. Conclusiones. La prevalencia de apendicitis fue 26,64%; con mayor incidencia en el sexo masculino y al inicio de la tercera década de la vida, la escala RIPASA tuvo una validez mayor que la de Alvarado. Introduction: Appendectomy is the most common emergency operation in surgical services, and can reach up to 48.7% of total emergency surgeries. Objetive: Validate Alvarado and RIPASA scales compared with histopathology for the diagnosis of acute appendicitis in the emergency service of the "Vicente Corral Moscoso" Hospital during the period January to December 2014. Material and Methods: It has been made a validation study of diagnostic tests performed in a 365 patients diagnosed with acute appendicitis; the study group consisted of patients whose ages were between 18 and 65 years. The data were collected by the author in a structured form specifically for this purpose in which consisted the two diagnostic scales and analyzed with SPSS 22.0 software. Results: The prevalence of acute appendicitis was 26,64% (95% CI 25,15% to 28,18%), being the most affected age group under 40 years (84,38%), and the average age of 32,02 + / - 10,1. The male was the most afflicted with 54,79% of cases. Of the 365 cases, Alvarado tested positive in 64,38% and RIPASA in 95,34%. Sensitivity for Alvarado score was 65%, specificity 40%, PPV 95%, NPV 6%, the likelihood ratio for a positive test (LR +) 1,08 and the likelihood ratio for a negative test ( LR-) 0,88 with p = 0,674. In the respect to RIPASA, sensitivity was 96%, specificity 20%, PPV 95%, NVP 25%, the LR + 1,2 and 0,19 LR- with a p = 0,001. Abstract

Este proyecto abarca toda la preproducción, haciendo especial hincapié en el diseño artístico del cortometraje. Es por eso que, para un formato puramente visual e interactivo, se llevarán a cabo de forma digital muchos de los escenarios, personajes y objetos que sean de vital importancia dentro de la historia. Todo esto teniendo en cuenta el proceso creativo que llevaría producción real, desde los primeros bocetos hasta los diseños finales. El objetivo final de este Trabajo de Fin de Grado es presentar un libro, tanto en digital como en papel, que nos permita reflejar todo el universo detrás del cortometraje y, sobre todo, la totalidad de procesos creativos y artísticos que se llevan a cabo en una producción cinematográfica. Aparte, desarrollaremos y llevaremos a cabo la idea de un teaser con la canción original, mezclando planos reales con planos totalmente digitalizados. Abstract

This work describes the dynamic simulation of a direct air-cooled single effect solar-driven absorption system and demonstrates the numerical results of the absorption system with different working pairs. The working pairs used in the chiller mode are LiBr-H2O and Carrol-H2O (Carrol contains LiBr and EG -Ethylene glycol- with a mass ratio at 4.5:1), while in the heat pump mode, EG is introduced in the evaporator to avoid freezing problem which limits the operation condition. The numerical modelling was implemented on a modular object-oriented simulation platform (NEST platform tool), which allows the linking between different components, considered as objects, which can be either an empirical-based model or a more detailed CFD calculation if necessary. Specifically, flat plate collectors coupled with a storage tank is introduced assisting the heat source for the absorption system, and all the components are implemented based on mass, momentum, and energy balances. The goal of this work is to compare the general performance like COP and working capacity between LiBr-H2O and Carrol-H2O in chiller mode and the performance of working pair Carrol-H2O at heat pump mode in dynamic operation. Finally, various simulations at each case are performed with meteorologic data of Barcelona and Madrid in summer and winter, and the heat source consists of 30 m2 solar collectors and an auxiliary heater. The solar collectors used in the system are high efficiency flat solar collectors. The fraction of solar energy in heat source varies depends on the total radiation in the area, which could reach 0.65 on a sunny day or attributes less than 0.1 on a cloudy day. J. Abstract

Este proyecto abarca toda la preproducción, haciendo especial hincapié en el diseño artístico del cortometraje. Es por eso que, para un formato puramente visual e interactivo, se llevarán a cabo de forma digital muchos de los escenarios, personajes y objetos que sean de vital importancia dentro de la historia. Todo esto teniendo en cuenta el proceso creativo que llevaría producción real, desde los primeros bocetos hasta los diseños finales. El objetivo final de este Trabajo de Fin de Grado es presentar un libro, tanto en digital como en papel, que nos permita reflejar todo el universo detrás del cortometraje y, sobre todo, la totalidad de procesos creativos y artísticos que se llevan a cabo en una producción cinematográfica. Aparte, desarrollaremos y llevaremos a cabo la idea de un teaser con la canción original, mezclando planos reales con planos totalmente digitalizados. Esta producción será el clímax de nuestro proyecto, donde se recogerá toda la emoción y creatividad puesta en él.

Abstract

Optical spectroscopic techniques have been commonly used to detect the presence of biofilm-forming pathogens (bacteria and fungi) in the agro-food industry. Recently, near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy revealed that it is also possible to detect the presence of viruses in animal and vegetal tissues. Here we report a platform based on visible and NIR (VNIR) hyperspectral imaging for non-contact, reagent free detection and quantification of laboratory-engineered viral particles in fluid samples (liquid droplets and dry residue) using both partial least square-discriminant analysis and artificial feed-forward neural networks. The detection was successfully achieved in preparations of phosphate buffered solution and artificial saliva, with an equivalent pixel volume of 4 nL and lowest concentration of 800 TU.mu L-1. This method constitutes an innovative approach that could be potentially used at point of care for rapid mass screening of viral infectious diseases and monitoring of the SARS-CoV- 2 pandemic.

Abstract

This paper shows a study on the level of development of algebraic knowledge of applicants to engineering careers of the Autonomous University of Querétaro, México. An instrument with open items was applied to applicants for the 2017-2018 cycle and for high school mathematics content. In the analysis of the responses we identified mathematical practices, personal meanings and semiotic conflicts related to levels of algebrization that are not appropriate for the adequate development of future engineers. This will make possible to propose changes in the design of the admission process, in the curricular part of existing careers and in the design of actions that can strengthen and support the academic training of applicants once they have been accepted., Este trabajo presenta un estudio sobre el desarrollo del conocimiento algebraico de aspirantes a las carreras de Ingeniería de la Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, México. Se aplicó un instrumento con ítems abiertos a los aspirantes del ciclo 2017-2018 y de contenido de matemático de bachillerato. En el análisis de las respuestas se identificaron prácticas matemáticas, significados personales y conflictos semióticos relacionados con niveles de algebrización que no son apropiados para un desarrollo adecuado de futuros ingenieros. Esto permitirá proponer cambios en el diseño del proceso de admisión, en la parte curricular de las carreras existentes y en el diseño de acciones que puedan fortalecer y apoyar la formación académica de los aspirantes una vez que hayan sido aceptados.

Abstract

Introduction: Appendectomy is the most common emergency operation in surgical services, and can reach up to 48.7% of total emergency surgeries. Objetive: Validate Alvarado and RIPASA scales compared with histopathology for the diagnosis of acute appendicitis in the emergency service of the "Vicente Corral Moscoso" Hospital during the period January to December 2014. Material and Methods: It has been made a validation study of diagnostic tests performed in a 365 patients diagnosed with acute appendicitis; the study group consisted of patients whose ages were between 18 and 65 years. The data were collected by the author in a structured form specifically for this purpose in which consisted the two diagnostic scales and analyzed with SPSS 22.0 software. Results: The prevalence of acute appendicitis was 26,64% (95% CI 25,15% to 28,18%), being the most affected age group under 40 years (84,38%), and the average age of 32,02 + / - 10,1. The male was the most afflicted with 54,79% of cases. Of the 365 cases, Alvarado tested positive in 64,38% and RIPASA in 95,34%. Sensitivity for Alvarado score was 65%, specificity 40%, PPV 95%, NPV 6%, the likelihood ratio for a positive test (LR +) 1,08 and the likelihood ratio for a negative test ( LR-) 0,88 with p = 0,674. In the respect to RIPASA, sensitivity was 96%, specificity 20%, PPV 95%, NVP 25%, the LR + 1,2 and 0,19 LR- with a p = 0,001. Conclusions: The prevalence of appendicitis was 26,64%; with higher incidence in males and at the beginning of the third decade of life, the scale RIPASA had greater validity than Alvarado with a sensitivity of 96% and a specificity of 20%, with a value of p = 0,001

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine if the ability to rotate mental imagery influenced the comprehension of graphs in economics. A sample of 140 Business Administration undergraduates familiar with economic analysis using graphs were administered the Measure of the Ability to Rotate Mental Images (MARMI). Moreover, participants completed an ad hoc graph comprehension test consisting of six exercises of increasing difficulty with graphs developing the IS-LM model described in conventional macroeconomic textbooks. Both the ability to rotate mental imagery and graph complexity (the number of quadrants in each graph) were found to significantly influence the number of correct graph comprehension responses

Abstract

The intensification of agriculture in olive groves, especially the modification or elimination of spontaneous vegetation, alters the relationships in arthropod communities and reduces their interactions and ecosystem services. This study was carried out in nine olive groves in which there was either a planted cover crop, spontaneous cover crop or bare ground. The interactions of ground-dwelling, canopy and flying arthropods in trophic webs were calculated for each olive grove soil management regime at the family level taking into consideration their different functional traits: feeding guilds, specific agricultural traits and trophic level. Olive groves with spontaneous cover had trophic webs with a higher number of plausible links between arthropod families and a more balanced distribution of specimens among trophic levels compared to those with planted cover and bare ground. There was a similar number of arthropod families consisting of both pests and their natural enemies in the planted cover regime, while olive groves with bare ground had simpler trophic webs. The complexity of plausible trophic links was greater in olive groves with spontaneous plant cover despite the similar values for family richness in the three-olive grove soil management regimes. Qualitative values (such as functional traits) were more diverse in agroecosystems with spontaneous plant cover in which there were more sources of food.
