Background/objective The nutritional risk in hospitalized children and adolescents is a frequent and under-diagnosed reality. There is still no consensus regarding the best nutritional screening method in pediatrics, with StrongKids being one of the existing proposals. A systematic review was performed to evaluate the scientific evidence about StrongKids, with emphasis on the world frequency of nutritional risk, associations of interest in health, validation and reproducibility studies. Methods Databases Pubmed, Lilacs, Scielo, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Scopus and Cochrane Library were searched, using keyword 'StrongKids,' without limit on the year of publication, in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Results From 125 papers initially identified, 22 original were included in analysis. The sample size ranged from 43 to 2874, with a maximum of 44 hospitals. The frequency of nutritional risk (medium or high) ranged from 35.7 to 100%. The nutritional risk was mainly associated with acute and/or chronic malnutrition already installed, lower anthropometric indexes and longer length of hospital stay. The method presented satisfactory inter-rater and intra-rater agreements and was validated in the three studies performed with this proposal. Conclusions The prevalence of nutritional risk in hospitalized children and adolescents is high. StrongKids is a valid, easy-to-use, and reproducible method, with significant associations of interest in health., Author(s): Carolina Araújo dos Santos [sup.1], Andréia Queiroz Ribeiro [sup.1], Carla de Oliveira Barbosa Rosa [sup.1], Vânia Eloisa de Araújo [sup.2], Sylvia do Carmo Castro Franceschini [sup.1] Author Affiliations: (1) [...]

General Medicine - Abstract
Bariatric surgery (CB) is the most successful method for weight loss in patients with Grade III obesity and morbidities. However, patients submitted to CB generally do not reach the protein intake recommendation. Thus, protein supplements could minimize muscle mass loss, preventing protein malnutrition. Whey protein has a high biological value, with a high content of branched-chain amino acids that stimulate protein synthesis and reduce the loss of muscle mass seen in low-calorie diets. Thus, whey protein would contribute to maintaining body composition and preventing muscle loss. Our objective was to evaluate the effect of 8-week whey protein supplementation in female patients submitted to CB, regarding metabolic and nutritional status. After the eight weeks of the experiment, there was an increase in lean Mass and a reduction of fat Mass and fat percentage in the Whey group compared with the initial time, a result not seen in the control group. There was no difference in biochemical parameters, except for the increased fasting glucose in the Malto group that was prevented in the Whey group. We conclude that whey protein supplementation could reduce the loss of fat-free Mass and increase the body fat Mass regardless of changes BMI evolution in the later postoperative period of bariatric surgery, a period of weight loss is minimized, and weight reacquisition occurs more frequently.

General Medicine - Abstract

Nutrition and Dietetics ,Medicine (miscellaneous) - Abstract
The lack of international consensus on the definition of Metabolic Syndrome (MS) in the pediatric population makes it difficult to estimate its prevalence. In this study, we intend to identify MS prevalence and a cutoff point based on a continuous score in children aged four to seven years.A cross-sectional study of 402 children (4-7 years) monitored by the Lactation Support Program (PROLAC). A continuous MS risk score was assessed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). In order to calculate the score, the following MS risk factors were considered: Waist circumference (WC), High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), Triglycerides (TG), Blood Pressure (BP) and Blood sugar. Using a Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curve, the cutoff point for predicting MS risk based on continuous score was evaluated.A progressive increase in MS scores was observed according to increase in the number of risk factors. This increase was also observed when comparing boys and girls (p 0.001). In the absence of MS, the median score among the children was -0.0486 (-0.2929-0.2151). For children with MS, the median score was 0.5237 (0.2286-0.7104) (p 0.001). The best cutoff score for predicting MS in children aged four to five years was0.09 (100% sensitivity and specificity 72.67%). For children aged six to seven years, this value was0.14 (100% sensitivity and 64.65% specificity). The calculated continuous risk score can predict MS with good accuracy and high sensitivity and reasonable specificity.

- Abstract

- Abstract
Since World War II, there has been a concern related to the quality standard of industrial production. Adapting to the reality of the health sector, it sought to improve the management of the quality of its services, aiming, in addition to satisfying its internal and external customers, the safety of its patients. The objective was to settle how technologies influence the quality management of the health sector today. Thus, this article presents as a methodology a bibliographic research in which a literature review of the last five years was carried out in scientific articles, analyzed in the months of November and December 2021, using the following descriptors: technology, health and quality. As a result, it can be seen that technologies are important allies of management in health services, providing patient safety, systematization, organization and agility in processes, reducing workload and reducing costs for the organization. However, it is essential that managers are attentive to develop training and adherence strategies for professionals responsible for feeding the computerized systems, in order to guarantee the quality of information and the achievement of the intended results.

- Abstract
Despite the considerable morbidity and mortality of Yellow fever virus (YFV) infections in Brazil, as well as its widespread presence in non-human primate host, our understanding of disease outbreaks is hampered by limited viral genomic data. Determining the timing and spatial corridors of YFV spread, as well as the geographic hotspots that link the endemic north of the country with epidemic extra-Amazonian regions, are central to predicting and preventing future outbreak events and epidemics. Here, we tracked the recent spread of the virus by integrating genome sequences of new YFV infections sampled from infected non-human primates and humans with both epidemiological and vector data. Through a combination of phylogenetic and epidemiological models we reconstructed the recent transmission history of YFV within different epidemic seasons in Brazil. A suitability index based on the highly domesticatedAedes aegyptiwas able to capture the seasonality of reported human infections. Spatial modelling revealed spatial hotspots with both past reporting and low vaccination coverage, which coincided with many of the largest urban centres in the Southeast. Phylodynamic analysis unravelled the circulation of three distinct YFV lineages, and provided proof of the directionality of a known spatial corridor of viral spread that connects the endemic North with the extra-Amazonian basin. This study illustrates that genomics linked with field sampling of animals and humans within a One Health framework can provide new insights into the landscape of YFV transmission, augmenting traditional approaches to infectious disease surveillance and control.

The environment can modify the physiology and body protective function of the skin. Propolis (PRP) and curcumin (CUR) possess important antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, and they can be administered in a combined way and using photodynamic therapy (PDT). Emulgels can control drug release due to the physicochemical properties of the gel and the emulsion. They constitute a good strategy for achieving an improved platform for the combined delivery of PRP and CUR. There are no other studies of emulgels composed of PRP and CUR and their performance as antimicrobial and skin healing using or not PDT. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Carbopol 934 P (C934P), 974 P (C974P) or polycarbophil (PC) on physicochemical stability, antioxidant activity, drug release profile, antimicrobial activity, and ex vivo skin permeation and retention of emulgels containing PRP and CUR. Formulations containing C974P or PC displayed improved stability and antioxidant activity. They displayed activity against Staphylococcus aureus and modified (extended) drug release, governed mainly by non-Fickian anomalous transport. C974P and PC resulted in improved emulgels for combined CUR and PRP delivery, allowing the drugs to cross the stratum corneum, and permeate the epidermis, reaching the dermis. The selected emulgels are candidates for further studies to prove their action and benefits to skin health.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to discuss aspects of childhood bruxism through a literature review, addressing the etiological factors as well as signs, symptoms and clinical characteristics of this condition. It is very important to master the signs and symptoms for a more accurate diagnosis by pediatric dentistry professionals. Treatment is multidisciplinary for this parafunctional condition. The results showed that bruxism is a non-functional habit of the masticatory function, which is characterized by the act of squeezing or grinding the teeth, occurring both during the day and during sleep. The etiology is multifactorial and the literature presents several, such as associated factors: dental, physiological, psychological and neurological. The most common sign is some wear on the incisal surfaces, especially on the anterior teeth, and occlusal on the posterior teeth. It also tends to cause tooth hypersensitivity, fracture of the cusps and restorations, and hypertonicity of masticatory muscles. It was concluded that knowing the etiological factors and clinical characteristics of bruxism in childhood is important for a diagnosis as quickly as possible, allowing an early treatment that favors the child's well-being.Keywords: bruxism; kids; pediatric dentistry.

Objective: To examine trends in prescribing psychotropic medications to children and adolescents in Australian primary care from 2011 to 2018. Method: A retrospective cohort study examined prescriptions written by general practitioners using MedicineInsight, a large Australian primary care database, covering approximately 9% of all general practitioner practices. Numbers of patients receiving prescriptions for five main classes of psychotropics (antipsychotics, antidepressants, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder medications, anxiolytics, and hypnotics/sedatives [including benzodiazepines and Z-drugs, but excluding melatonin]) were examined annually by age-group (0–4, 5–9, 10–14, 15–18 years). Melatonin was analysed separately. Results: The number of patients prescribed any psychotropic increased from 25.6 to 36.2 per 1000 individuals from 2011 to 2018 (average annual increase +4.5%, 95% confidence interval [4.1%, 4.9%]; overall +41.4%). Among the five main classes, the largest annual increase was for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder medications (+9.6%, 95% confidence interval [8.8%, 10.5%]; overall +95.8%), followed by antipsychotics (+6.2%, 95% confidence interval [5.0%, 7.3%]; overall +62.8%) and antidepressants (+4.5%, 95% confidence interval [4.0%, 5.0%]; overall +42.8%). Hypnotic/sedative prescribing decreased on average 6.5% per year (95% confidence interval [–8.0%, –5.0%]; overall −40.2%). Anxiolytic prescribing remained steady. Melatonin prescriptions showed the highest increase of all (+24.7%, 95% confidence interval [23.7%, 25.8%]; overall +606.7%). The largest annual increase in antipsychotic, antidepressant or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder medication prescribing occurred in 10- to 14-year-olds (+7.5%, +6.5% and +10.4%, respectively). The largest point prevalence occurred in 2018 among 15- to 18-year-olds, with 98.5 per 1000 prescribed antidepressants. Antidepressants were more frequently prescribed to females; antipsychotics, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder medications and melatonin more often to males. The most prescribed antipsychotics were risperidone (Conclusion: General practitioner prescribing of melatonin, antipsychotics, antidepressants and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder medications to under-19-year-olds increased markedly from 2011 to 2018. Although benzodiazepine and Z-drug prescriptions declined, this was offset by a substantial increase in melatonin prescribing.

Motorcycles are used for fast deliveries, especially in developing countries. In Brazil, despite legal regulation of motorcycle courier activity, a significant proportion of informal workers are engaged in this area of work. This paper identifies factors to improve the productivity of motorcycle couriers, measured by the number of deliveries by day. Data were obtained from a web-based survey with motorcycle couriers in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. We estimated a causal model to evaluate the influence and the effects of the variables age, gender, delivery fee, and driver licence time in the productivity of the motorcycle couriers. The results of the causal model were confirmed based on the criteria of admissibility, minimax, and robustness. Results indicated the motorcycle couriers deliver documents and prepared food, driving more than 100 km and working over eight hours per day. The productivity of motorcycle couriers is negatively influenced by delivery fees, indicating that a fee delivery policy could have a positive impact on the deliveries and, consequently, on the number of motorcycle couriers. Training in financial and career management could improve the productivity of motorcycle couriers.

- Abstract

Recently, the number of new cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis has been of concern among health agencies. Research that offers new therapeutic alternatives is advantageous, especially those that develop innovative drugs. Therefore, this paper presents the incorporation of Copaifera reticulata Ducke and chlorophyll extract into Pluronic®® F127 and Carbopol gels, under optimized polymer quantities. The chlorophyll extract (rich in photosensitizing compounds) was obtained by continuous-flow pressurized liquid extraction (PLE), a clean, environmentally friendly method. The system aims to act as as a leishmanicidal, cicatrizant, and antibiotic agent, with reinforcement of the photodynamic therapy (PDT) action. Rheological and mechanical analyses, permeation studies and bioadhesiveness analyses on human skin, and PDT-mediated activation of Staphylococcus aureus were performed. The emulgels showed gelation between 13° and 15 °C, besides pseudoplastic and viscoelastic properties. Furthermore, the systems showed transdermal potential, by releasing chlorophylls and C. reticulata Ducke into the deep layers of human skin, with good bioadhesive performance. The application of PDT reduced three logarithmic colony-forming units of S. aureus bacteria. The results support the potential of the natural drug for future clinical trials in treating wounds and cutaneous leishmania.
