Abstract

We present the first measurement of the Michel parameters η ‾ and ξκ in the radiative leptonic decay of the τ lepton using 703 fb-1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e − collider. The Michel parameters are measured by an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the kinematic information of e + e − → τ + τ − → ( π + π 0 ν ‾ ) ( l − ν ν ‾ γ ) ( l = e or μ ) . The preliminary values of the measured Michel parameters are η ‾ = − 2.0 ± 1.5 ± 0.8 and ξ κ = 0.6 ± 0.4 ± 0.2 , where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic.

Abstract

Background Blood loss during liver surgery is found to be correlated with central venous pressure (CVP). The aim of the current retrospective study is to find out the cutoff value of CVP and stroke volume variation (SVV), which may increase the risk of having intraoperative blood loss of more than 100 mL during living liver donor hepatectomies. Method and Patients Twenty-seven adult living liver donors were divided into 2 groups according to whether they had intraoperative blood loss of less (G1) or more than 100 mL (G2). The mean values of the patients' CVP and SVV at the beginning of the transaction of the liver parenchyma was used as the cutoff point. Its correlation to intraoperative blood loss was evaluated using the χ2 test; P Results The cutoff points of CVP and SVV were 8 mm Hg and 13% respectively. The odds ratio of having blood loss exceeding 100 mL was 91.25 (P Conclusion CVP less than 5 mm Hg, as suggested by most authors, is not always clinical achievable. Our results show that a value of less than 8 mm Hg or SVV 13% is able to achieve a minimal blood loss of 100 mL during parenchyma transaction during a living donor hepatectomy. Measurements used to lower the CVP or increased SVV in our serial were intravenous fluids restriction and the use of a diuretic.

Abstract

Background Opsite (Smith & Nephew, Hull, UK) is widely used in wound care but its use in eye protection against corneal abrasion during major surgery is rarely reported. The purpose of the current study is to compare the effectiveness of using Opsite in eye protection with either wet gauze alone or with wet gauze following application of eye ointment in patients undergoing living donor liver transplantation (LDLT). Methods This is a prospective, double-blinded, randomized controlled trial. Forty-one patients undergoing liver transplantation were enrolled. One eye of each patient was protected with sterile gauze soaked with normal saline solution and covered with Opsite. Duratears (ALCON, Fort Worth, Tex, United States) ointment was applied to the other eye before covering it with sterile wet gauze and Opsite (ointment group). The corneal examination was carried out after fluorescein staining before and at the end of surgery by the same doctor. A Student t-test and a χ2 test were used for the statistical analyses. Results Forty-one patients with 82 eyes were observed in this study. No corneal epithelial defects were found in either the normal saline group or the ointment group. Conclusion Opsite combined with wet gauze with or without additional eye ointment provided 100% protection against corneal abrasion in patients undergoing LDLT.

Abstract

Objectives The aims of this study were to compare the core temperature changes between pediatric patients lying on regular operating room linen drapes and a water-repellent sheepskin rug during living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) and to evaluate the effectiveness of using a water-repellent sheepskin rug in preventing profound hypothermia due to fluid overflow from the abdominal cavity during LDLT. Patients and Methods The operative records of pediatric patients who underwent LDLT from June 1994-September 2003 were reviewed retrospectively. The nasopharyngeal temperature (NT) changes during the LDLT procedure between patients lying on regular operating room drapes (GI) and water-repellent sheepskin rug (GII) were compared and analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test. A P value Results Thirty-two patients were included in GI and 56 in GII. Profound hypothermia was not observed in any recipients lying on a water-repellent sheepskin rug (GII). The NT after induction and the following 4 hours into the LT procedure were significantly higher in GII than GI. Conclusion Pediatric patients lying on water-repellent sheepskin preserved their core temperature better in comparison to patients lying on linen drapes. The use of a water-repellent sheepskin rug seems to be effective in preventing profound hypothermia related to physical contact with abdominal fluid overflow during the LDLT.

Abstract

This work reports the first observation of azimuthal asymmetries around the thrust axis in e+e- annihilation of pairs of back-to-back charged pions in one hemisphere, and π0 and η mesons in the opposite hemisphere. These results are complemented by a new analysis of pairs of back-to-back charged pions. The π0 and η asymmetries rise with the relative momentum z of the detected hadrons as well as with the transverse momentum with respect to the thrust axis. These asymmetries are sensitive to the Collins fragmentation function H1⊥ and provide complementary information to previous measurements with charged pions and kaons in the final state. In particular, the η final states will provide additional information on the flavor structure of H1⊥. This is the first measurement of the explicit transverse-momentum dependence of the Collins fragmentation function from Belle data. It uses a dataset of 980.4 fb-1 collected by the Belle experiment at or near a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the expression level of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) CASC11 in esophageal carcinoma (ECa), and to further explore its relationship with clinical progression, pathological parameters, and prognosis of ECa patients.Quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to examine the level of lncRNA CASC11 in 45 pairs of ECa tissues and adjacent normal tissues. The relationship between the lncRNA CASC11 level and clinical progression, pathological parameters, and prognosis of ECa patients was analyzed. Meanwhile, the level of lncRNA CASC11 in the ECa cell lines was verified by qPCR as well. In addition, lncRNA CASC11 knockdown model was constructed using lentiviral transfection in ECa cell lines. Subsequently, the cell counting kit-8 (CCK8), colony formation assay, and flow cytometry were used to explore the effect of lncRNA CASC11 on the biological functions of the ECa cells. Finally, the Western Blot and the recovery experiments were used to explore the potential mechanism.In this work, the qPCR results showed that the expression level of lncRNA CASC11 in the ECa tissues was remarkably higher than that of the adjacent normal tissues, and the difference was statistically significant (p0.05). Compared with patients with a low level of lncRNA CASC11, the pathological stage of patients with high expression was significantly higher, while the overall survival rate was lower (p0.05). Compared with negative control (NC) group, the proliferation ability of the cells in the lncRNA CASC11 knockdown group CASC11 significantly decreased, whereas cell apoptosis remarkably increased (p0.05). The Western Blot results revealed that protein expression of KLF6 was remarkably up-regulated after lncRNA CASC11 knockdown. In addition, the recovery experiments found that lncRNA CASC11 and KLF6 had mutual regulation, thereby promoting the malignant progression of ECa.LncRNA CASC11 expression was remarkably up-regulated in ECa, which was associated with the pathological stage and poor prognosis of ECa. In addition, lncRNA CASC11 could promote the malignant progression of ECa by mutual regulation of KLF6.

Abstract

This Letter reports the first extraction of individual antineutrino spectra from ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu fission and an improved measurement of the prompt energy spectrum of reactor antineutrinos at Daya Bay. The analysis uses 3.5×10^{6} inverse beta-decay candidates in four near antineutrino detectors in 1958 days. The individual antineutrino spectra of the two dominant isotopes, ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu, are extracted using the evolution of the prompt spectrum as a function of the isotope fission fractions. In the energy window of 4-6 MeV, a 7% (9%) excess of events is observed for the ^{235}U (^{239}Pu) spectrum compared with the normalized Huber-Mueller model prediction. The significance of discrepancy is 4.0σ for ^{235}U spectral shape compared with the Huber-Mueller model prediction. The shape of the measured inverse beta-decay prompt energy spectrum disagrees with the prediction of the Huber-Mueller model at 5.3σ. In the energy range of 4-6 MeV, a maximal local discrepancy of 6.3σ is observed.

Abstract

We present a new measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |Vcb| from B0→D*-l+νl decays, reconstructed with the full Belle data set of 711 fb−1 integrated luminosity. Two form factor parametrizations, originally conceived by the Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert (CLN) and the Boyd, Grinstein and Lebed (BGL) groups, are used to extract the product F(1)ηEW|Vcb| and the decay form factors, where F(1) is the normalization factor and ηEW is a small electroweak correction. In the CLN parametrization we find F(1)ηEW|Vcb|=(35.06±0.15±0.56)×10-3, ρ2=1.106±0.031±0.007, R1(1)=1.229±0.028±0.009, R2(1)=0.852±0.021±0.006. For the BGL parametrization we obtain F(1)ηEW|Vcb|=(34.93±0.23±0.59)×10-3, which is consistent with the world average when correcting for F(1)ηEW. The branching fraction of B0→D*-l+νl is measured to be B(B0→D*-l+νl)=(4.90±0.02±0.16)%. We also present a new test of lepton flavor universality violation in semileptonic B decays, B(B0→D*-e+ν)B(B0→D*-μ+ν)=1.01±0.01±0.03. The errors quoted correspond to the statistical and systematic uncertainties, respectively. This is the most precise measurement of F(1)ηEW|Vcb| and form factors to date and the first experimental study of the BGL form factor parametrization in an experimental measurement.

Abstract

Using data samples of e+e- collisions collected at the ϒ(1S), ϒ(2S), and ϒ(3S) resonances with the Belle detector, we search for the three-body decay of the Ω(2012) baryon to KπΞ. This decay is predicted to dominate for models describing the Ω(2012) as a KΞ(1530) molecule. No significant Ω(2012) signals are observed in the studied channels, and 90% credibility level upper limits on the ratios of the branching fractions relative to KΞ decay modes are obtained.

Abstract

We present the first measurements of the absolute branching fractions of $\Xi_c^+$ decays into $\Xi^- \pi^+ \pi^+$ and $p K^- \pi^+$ final states. Our analysis is based on a data set of $(772\pm 11)\times 10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. We measure the absolute branching fraction of $\bar{B}^{0} \to \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-} \Xi_{c}^{+}$ with the $\Xi_c^+$ recoiling against $\bar{\Lambda}_c^-$ in $\bar{B}^0$ decays resulting in ${\cal B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-} \Xi_{c}^{+}) = [1.16 \pm 0.42(\rm stat.) \pm 0.15(\rm syst.)] \times 10^{-3}$. We then measure the product branching fractions ${\cal B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to \bar{\Lambda}_c^- \Xi_c^+){\cal B}(\Xi_c^+ \to \Xi^- \pi^+ \pi^+)$ and ${\cal B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to \bar{\Lambda}_c^- \Xi_c^+){\cal B}(\Xi_c^+ \to p K^- \pi^+)$. Dividing these product branching fractions by $\bar{B}^{0} \to \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-} \Xi_{c}^{+}$ yields: ${\cal B}(\Xi_c^+ \to \Xi^- \pi^+ \pi^+) = [2.86 \pm 1.21(\rm stat.) \pm 0.38(\rm syst.)]\%$ and ${\cal B}(\Xi_c^+ \to p K^- \pi^+)=[0.45 \pm 0.21(\rm stat.) \pm 0.07(\rm syst.)]\%$. Our result for ${\cal B}(\Xi_c^+ \to \Xi^- \pi^+ \pi^+)$ can be combined with $\Xi_c^+$ branching fractions measured relative to $\Xi_c^+ \to \Xi^- \pi^+ \pi^+$ to set the absolute scale for many $\Xi_c^+$ branching fractions.

The analysis uses 3.5×10^{6} inverse beta-decay candidates in four near antineutrino detectors in 1958 days. The individual antineutrino spectra of the two dominant isotopes, ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu, are extracted using the evolution of the prompt spectrum as a function of the isotope fission fractions. In the energy window of 4-6 MeV, a 7% (9%) excess of events is observed for the ^{235}U (^{239}Pu) spectrum compared with the normalized Huber-Mueller model prediction. The significance of discrepancy is 4.0σ for ^{235}U spectral shape compared with the Huber-Mueller model prediction. The shape of the measured inverse beta-decay prompt energy spectrum disagrees with the prediction of the Huber-Mueller model at 5.3σ. In the energy range of 4-6 MeV, a maximal local discrepancy of 6.3σ is observed.

Abstract

We report the results of a search for the decay $B^0 \to X(3872)(\to J/\psi \pi^+ \pi^-) \gamma$. The analysis is performed on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $711\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ and containing $772 \times 10^6 B\bar{B}$ pairs, collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider running at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance energy. We find no evidence for a signal and place an upper limit of $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to X(3872)\gamma)\times \mathcal{B}(X(3872) \to J/\psi \pi^+ \pi^-) < 5.1 \times 10^{-7}$ at 90% confidence level.

Abstract

A search for the decays B+→hcK+ and B0→hcKS0 is performed. Evidence for the decay B+→hcK+ is found; its significance is 4.8σ. No evidence is found for B0→hcKS0. The branching fraction for B+→hcK+ is measured to be (3.7-0.9+1.0 -0.8+0.8)×10-5; the upper limit for the B0→hcKS0 branching fraction is 1.4×10-5 at 90% C.L. In addition, a study of the pp¯π+π- invariant mass distribution in the channel B+→(pp¯π+π-)K+ results in the first observation of the decay ηc(2S)→pp¯π+π- with 12.1σ significance. The analysis is based on the 711 fb-1 data sample collected by the Belle detector at the asymmetric-energy e+e- collider KEKB at the ϒ(4S) resonance.

Abstract

We report a measurement of the branching fraction and final-state asymmetry for the $\bar{B}^{0}\to K^{0}_{S}K^{\mp}\pi^{\pm}$ decays. The analysis is based on a data sample of 711 $\rm{fb}^{-1}$ collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. We obtain a branching fraction of $(3.60\pm0.33\pm0.15)\times10^{-6}$ and a final-state asymmetry of $(-8.5\pm8.9\pm0.2)\%$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. Hints of peaking structures are seen in the differential branching fractions measured as functions of Dalitz variables.

Abstract

This study was designed to investigate whether microRNA-1297 can regulate the osteogenesis of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) through WNT5A, thus influencing the progression of osteoporosis.Quantitative Real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) assay was performed to analyze microRNA-1297 level and osteogenesis-related markers in osteoporosis patients and controls. The protein levels of the above markers and WNT5A were detected by Western blot. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity assay and ALP staining were used to measure the degree of osteogenic differentiation under the control of microRNA-1297 and WNT5A, and ARS staining was used to detect the mineralization ability of hBMSC after overexpression of microRNA-1297. The binding sites of microRNA-1297 and WNT5A were determined by the dual luciferase-reporting assay. Besides, the activity of Wnt signal transduction pathway in different treatment groups was detected by TOP/FOP report.MicroRNA-1297 was highly expressed in osteoporotic patients, and its level decreased significantly with the increasing of osteogenic induction. Bioinformatics prediction suggested that microRNA-1297 can target WNT5A. In vitro experiments showed that overexpression of microRNA-1297 in hBMSC can reduce the level of WNT5A, while interference with microRNA-1297 can increase the level of WNT5A. Overexpression of microRNA-1297 and transfection of si-WNT5A significantly reduced the mRNA levels of RUNX2, OSX, ALP, OCN, OPN and COL1A1, thereby inhibiting osteogenic differentiation. Overexpression of microRNA-1297 could interfere with WNT signaling pathway regulation and regulate the osteogenic differentiation of hBMSCs.microRNA-1297 could regulate the osteogenesis of BMSCs by combining with WNT5A so as to accelerate the progression of osteoporosis.

Abstract

We report measurements of the production cross sections of charged pions, kaons, and protons as a function of fractional energy, the event-shape variable called thrust, and the transverse momentum with respect to the thrust axis. These measurements access the transverse momenta created in the fragmentation process, which are of critical importance to the understanding of any transverse-momentum-dependent distribution and fragmentation functions. The low transverse-momentum part of the cross sections can be well described by Gaussians in transverse momentum as is generally assumed but the fractional-energy dependence is nontrivial and different hadron types have varying Gaussian widths. The width of these Gaussians decreases with thrust and shows an initially rising, then decreasing fractional-energy dependence. The widths for pions and kaons are comparable within uncertainties, while those for protons are significantly narrower. These single-hadron cross sections and Gaussian widths are obtained from a 558 fb-1 data sample collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider.

Abstract

We report a search for the charmless baryonic decay $B^0\to p\bar{p}\pi^0$ with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 711~$\rm fb^{-1}$ containing $(772\pm 10)\times 10^6$ $B^0\bar{B}^0$ pairs. The data was collected by the Belle experiment running on the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. We measure a branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(B^0\to p\bar{p}\pi^0)= (5.0\pm1.8\pm0.6 )\times 10^{-7}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The signal has a significance of 3.1 standard deviations and constitutes the first evidence for this decay mode. We also search for the intermediate two-body decays $B^{0}\to\Delta^+\bar{p}$ and $B^0\to\bar{\Delta}^-p$, and set an upper limit on the branching fraction: $\mathcal{B}(B^0\to \Delta^+\bar{p})+\mathcal{B}(B^0\to\bar{\Delta}^-p)

Abstract

We report the results of a search for the B→Y(4260)K, Y(4260)→J/ψπ+π- decays. This study is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 711 fb-1, collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We investigate the J/ψπ+π- invariant mass distribution in the range 4.0 to 4.6 GeV/c2 using both B+→J/ψπ+π-K+ and B0→J/ψπ+π-KS0 decays. We find excesses of events above the background levels, with significances of 2.1 and 0.9 standard deviations for charged and neutral B→Y(4260)K decays, respectively, taking into account the systematic uncertainties. These correspond to upper limits on the product of branching fractions, B(B+→Y(4260)K+)×B(Y(4260)→J/ψπ+π-)

175. MiR-34a regulates cell apoptosis after myocardial infarction in rats through the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway

Abstract

To explore the molecular mechanism of micro ribonucleic acid-34a (miR-34a) in promoting the apoptosis of myocardial cells in the rat model of myocardial infarction (MI).Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were ligated with a left anterior descending branch to construct the MI model. The rats were randomly divided into four groups: sham operation group (Sham group), MI group, MI + miR-34a inhibitor group (MI + miR-34a antagomir group) and MI + miR-34a inhibitor negative control group (MI + antagomir NC group). Echocardiography (ECG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were adopted to detect the ejection fraction [EF (%)] and fraction shortening [FS (%)] of SD rats. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Western blotting were used to detect expression levels of the apoptotic marker Caspase-3 and genes in Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining was applied to detect cardiac injury. In in vitro experiments, the rat-derived myocardial cell line H9C2 was selected to simulate myocardial ischemia and hypoxia at the time of MI with an anoxic and serum-free injury model. C59, the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway inhibitor was applied in MI + miR-34a antagomir + C59 group, and the effect of miR-34a on the apoptosis of myocardial cells through regulating the Wnt/β-catenin pathway was measured with Real-Time quantitative PCR (qPCR) and 3-(4,5)-dimethylthiazol(-z-y1)-3,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) cell activity detection kits, respectively.It was found that after miR-34a antagomir reversed FS (%) and EF (%) in MI rats, the messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein levels of Caspase-3 in Sham group and MI + miR-34a antagomir group were significantly lower than those in the MI group (p0.05), indicating that the addition of miR-34a antagomir inhibited myocardial cell apoptosis after infarction, while the mRNA and protein levels of Wnt/β-catenin were both higher than those in the MI group. Besides, HE staining proved that miR-34a reversed the myocardial injury after MI. Similarly, in vitro experiments showed that, compared with those in Hypoxia group, the level of Caspase-3 decreased in Hypoxia + miR-34a inhibitor group and Sham group, while the apoptosis level in Hypoxia + miR-34a inhibitor + C59 group increased (p0.05). The results of the MTT assay were consistent with those of PCR. MiR-34a affects myocardial cell apoptosis by regulating the activation and inactivation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.

Abstract

We report the first observation of the doubly-strange baryon $\Xi(1620)^0$ in its decay to $\Xi^-\pi^+$ via $\Xi_c^+ \rightarrow \Xi^- \pi^+ \pi^+$ decays based on a $980\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The mass and width are measured to be 1610.4 $\pm$ 6.0 (stat) $^{+5.9}_{-3.5}$ (syst)~MeV$/c^2$ and 59.9 $\pm$ 4.8 (stat) $^{+2.8}_{-3.0}$ (syst)~MeV, respectively. We obtain 4.0$\sigma$ evidence of the $\Xi(1690)^0$ with the same data sample. These results shed light on the structure of hyperon resonances with strangeness $S=-2$.

Abstract

We study charmless hadronic decays of charged B mesons to the final states KS0KS0K± and KS0KS0π± using a 711 fb-1 data sample that contains 772×106 BB¯ pairs and was collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. For B±→KS0KS0K±, the measured branching fraction and direct CP asymmetry are [10.42±0.43(stat)±0.22(syst)]×10-6 and [+1.6±3.9(stat)±0.9(syst)]%, respectively. In the absence of a statistically significant signal for B±→KS0KS0π±, we obtain a 90% confidence-level upper limit on its branching fraction as 8.7×10-7.

Abstract

We report measurements of isospin asymmetry $\Delta_{0-}$ and difference of direct $CP$ asymmetries $\Delta A_{CP}$ between charged and neutral $B \to X_s \gamma$ decays. This analysis is based on the data sample containing $772 \times 10^6 B\bar{B}$ pairs that was collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric $e^+ e^-$ collider. Using a sum-of-exclusive technique with invariant $X_s$ mass up to 2.8~GeV/$c^2$, we obtain $\Delta_{0-} = \bigl[-0.48 \pm 1.49 {\rm (stat.)} \pm 0.97 {\rm (syst.)} \pm 1.15 {(f_{+-}/f_{00})}\bigr]$\% and $\Delta A_{CP} = \bigl[+3.69 \pm 2.65 {\rm (stat.)} \pm 0.76{\rm (syst.)}\bigr]$\%, where the last uncertainty for $\Delta_{0-}$ is due to the uncertainty on the production ratio of $B^+B^-$ to $B^0\bar{B}^0$ in $\Upsilon(4S)$ decays. The measured value of $\Delta_{0-}$ is consistent with zero, allowing us to constrain the resolved photon contribution in the $B \to X_s \gamma$, and improve the branching fraction prediction. The result for $\Delta A_{CP}$ is consistent with the prediction of the SM. We also measure the direct $CP$ asymmetries for charged and neutral $B \to X_s \gamma$ decays. All the measurements are the most precise to date.

Abstract

We report the study of B+→pΛ¯K+K- and B+→p¯ΛK+K+ decays using a 772×106 BB¯ pair data sample recorded on the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at KEKB. The following branching fractions are measured: B(B+→pΛ¯K+K-)=(4.10-0.43+0.45±0.50)×10-6, B(B+→p¯ΛK+K+)=(3.70-0.37+0.39±0.44)×10-6, B(ηc→pΛ¯K-+c.c.)=(2.83-0.34+0.36±0.35)×10-3 and B(B+→pΛ¯ϕ)=( 7.95±2.09±0.77)×10-7, where c.c. denotes the corresponding charge-conjugation process. The intermediate resonance decays are excluded in the four-body decay measurements. We also find evidence for B(ηc→Λ(1520)Λ¯+c.c.)=(3.48±1.48±0.46)×10-3 and B(B+→Λ(1520)Λ¯K+)=( 2.23±0.63±0.25)×10-6. No significant signals are found for J/ψ→Λ(1520)Λ¯+c.c. and B+→Λ¯(1520)ΛK+; we set the 90% confidence level upper limits on their decay branching fractions as

Abstract

We report the first observation of the spontaneous polarization of Λ and Λ[over ¯] hyperons transverse to the production plane in e^{+}e^{-} annihilation, which is attributed to the effect arising from a polarizing fragmentation function. For inclusive Λ/Λ[over ¯] production, we also report results with subtracted feed-down contributions from Σ^{0} and charm. This measurement uses a dataset of 800.4 fb^{-1} collected by the Belle experiment at or near a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. We observe a significant polarization that rises with the fractional energy carried by the Λ/Λ[over ¯] hyperon.

Abstract

We search for CP violation in the singly-Cabibbo-suppressed decay D0→K+K-π+π- using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 988 fb-1 collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. We measure a set of five kinematically dependent CP asymmetries, of which four asymmetries are measured for the first time. The set of asymmetry measurements can be sensitive to CP violation via interference between the different partial-wave contributions to the decay and performed on other pseudoscalar decays. We find no evidence of CP violation.

Abstract

We report a measurement of time-dependent CP violation in B0→KS0π0π0 decays using a data sample of 772×106 BB¯ pairs collected by the Belle experiment running at the ϒ(4S) resonance at the KEKB e+e- collider. This decay proceeds mainly via a b→sdd¯ “penguin” amplitude. The results are sin2ϕ1eff=0.92-0.31+0.27 (stat.) ±0.11 (syst.) and A=0.28±0.21 (stat.) ±0.04 (syst.), which are the most precise measurements of CP violation in this decay mode to date. The value for the CP-violating parameter sin2ϕ1eff is consistent with that obtained using decay modes proceeding via a b→cc¯s “tree” amplitude.

Abstract

We report the first observation of the double strange baryon Ξ(1620)^{0} in its decay to Ξ^{-}π^{+} via Ξ_{c}^{+}→Ξ^{-}π^{+}π^{+} decays based on a 980 fb^{-1} data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^{+}e^{-} collider. The mass and width are measured to be 1610.4±6.0(stat)_{-4.2}^{+6.1} (syst) MeV/c^{2} and 59.9±4.8(stat)_{-7.1}^{+2.8}(syst) MeV, respectively. We obtain 4.0σ evidence of the Ξ(1690)^{0} with the same data sample. These results shed light on the structure of hyperon resonances with strangeness S=-2.

Abstract

We present the first model-independent measurement of the CKM unitarity triangle angle ϕ 3 using B ± → D( $$ {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0 $$ K S 0 π + π − π 0) K ± decays, where D indicates either a D 0 or $$ \overline{D} $$ D ¯ 0 meson. Measurements of the strong-phase difference of the D → $$ {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0 $$ K S 0 π + π − π 0 amplitude obtained from CLEO-c data are used as input. This analysis is based on the full Belle data set of 772 × 106 B $$ \overline{B} $$ B ¯ events collected at the Υ(4S) resonance. We obtain ϕ 3 = ( $$ {5.7}_{-8.8}^{+10.2} $$ 5.7 − 8.8 + 10.2 ±3.5±5.7) ° and the suppressed amplitude ratio r B = 0.323±0.147±0.023±0.051. Here the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic, and the third is due to the precision of the strong-phase parameters measured from CLEO-c data. The 95% confidence interval on ϕ 3 is (−29.7, 109.5) ° , which is consistent with the current world average.

Abstract

We present the result of the search for the rare B meson decay of B+ -> l(+)nu e gamma with l = e, mu. For the search the full data set recorded by the Belle experiment of 711 fb(-1) integrated luminosity near the Upsilon(4S) resonance is used. Signal candidates are reconstructed for photon energies E-gamma larger than 1 GeV using a novel multivariate tagging algorithm. The novel algorithm fully reconstructs the second B meson produced in the collision using hadronic modes and was specifically trained to recognize the signal signature in combination with hadronic tag-side B meson decays. This approach greatly enhances the performance. Background processes that can mimic this signature, mainly charmless semileptonic decays and continuum processes, are suppressed using multivariate methods. The number of signal candidates is determined by analyzing the missing mass squared distribution as inferred from the signal side particles and the kinematic properties of the tag-side B meson. No significant excess over the background-only hypothesis is observed and upper limits on the partial branching fraction Delta B with E-gamma > 1 GeV individually for electron and muon final states as well as for the average branching fraction of both lepton final states are reported. We find a Bayesian upper limit of Delta B(B+ -> l(+)nu el) 0.24 GeV at 90% CL.

Abstract

We present first evidence that the cosine of the CP-violating weak phase 2β is positive, and hence exclude trigonometric multifold solutions of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) Unitarity Triangle using a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of B^{0}→D^{(*)}h^{0} with D→K_{S}^{0}π^{+}π^{-} decays, where h^{0}∈{π^{0},η,ω} denotes a light unflavored and neutral hadron. The measurement is performed combining the final data sets of the BABAR and Belle experiments collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. The data samples contain (471±3)×10^{6}BB[over ¯] pairs recorded by the BABAR detector and (772±11)×10^{6}BB[over ¯] pairs recorded by the Belle detector. The results of the measurement are sin2β=0.80±0.14(stat)±0.06(syst)±0.03(model) and cos2β=0.91±0.22(stat)±0.09(syst)±0.07(model). The result for the direct measurement of the angle β of the CKM Unitarity Triangle is β=[22.5±4.4(stat)±1.2(syst)±0.6(model)]°. The measurement assumes no direct CP violation in B^{0}→D^{(*)}h^{0} decays. The quoted model uncertainties are due to the composition of the D^{0}→K_{S}^{0}π^{+}π^{-} decay amplitude model, which is newly established by performing a Dalitz plot amplitude analysis using a high-statistics e^{+}e^{-}→cc[over ¯] data sample. CP violation is observed in B^{0}→D^{(*)}h^{0} decays at the level of 5.1 standard deviations. The significance for cos2β>0 is 3.7 standard deviations. The trigonometric multifold solution π/2-β=(68.1±0.7)° is excluded at the level of 7.3 standard deviations. The measurement resolves an ambiguity in the determination of the apex of the CKM Unitarity Triangle.

Abstract

We report measurements of sin2β and cos2β using a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of B0→D(*)h0 with D→KS0π+π- decays, where the light unflavored and neutral hadron h0 is a π0, η, or ω meson. The analysis uses a combination of the final data sets of the BaBar and Belle experiments containing 471×106 and 772×106 BB¯ pairs collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. We measure sin2β=0.80±0.14(stat)±0.06(syst)±0.03(model) and cos2β=0.91±0.22(stat)±0.09(syst)±0.07(model). The result for the direct measurement of the angle is β=(22.5±4.4(stat)±1.2(syst)±0.6(model))°. The last quoted uncertainties are due to the composition of the D0→KS0π+π- decay amplitude model, which is newly established by a Dalitz plot amplitude analysis of a high-statistics e+e-→cc¯ data sample as part of this analysis. Abstract

We measure the branching fraction and time-dependent CP-violating asymmetry for B0→J/ψπ0 decays using a data sample of 711 fb-1 collected on the ϒ(4S) resonance by the Belle experiment running at the KEKB e+e- collider. The branching fraction is measured to be B(B0→J/ψπ0)=[1.62±0.11(stat)±0.06(syst)]×10-5, which is the most precise measurement to date. The measured CP asymmetry parameters are S=-0.59±0.19(stat)±0.03(syst) and A=-0.15±0.14(stat)+0.04-0.03(syst). The mixing-induced CP asymmetry (S) differs from the case of no CP violation by 3.0 standard deviations, and the direct CP asymmetry (A) is consistent with zero.

Abstract

We report measurements of the branching fractions of the decays Lambda(+)(c) -> Sigma(+)pi(-)pi(+), Lambda(+)(c) -> Sigma(0)pi(+)pi(0) and Lambda(+)(c) -> Sigma(+)pi(0)pi(0) relative to the reference channel Lambda(+)(c) -> pK(-)p(+). The analysis is based on the full data sample collected at and near the gamma(4S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy ethorne-collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 711 fb(-1). We measure B(Lambda(+)(c) -> Sigma(+)pi(-)pi(+))/B(Lambda(+)(c) -> pK(-)pi(+)) = 0.719 +/- 0.003 +/- 0.024, B(Lambda(+)(c) -> Sigma(0) pi(+)pi(0))/B(Lambda(+)(c) -> pK(-)pi(+)) = 0.575 +/- 0.005 +/- 0.036 and B(Lambda(+)(c) -> Sigma(+)pi(0)pi(0))/B(Lambda(+)(c) -> pK(-)pi(+)) = 0.247 +/- 0.006 +/- 0.019. The listed uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

Abstract

We report a measurement of electron antineutrino oscillation from the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment with nearly 4 million reactor $\overline{\nu}_{e}$ inverse beta decay candidates observed over 1958 days of data collection. The installation of a Flash-ADC readout system and a special calibration campaign using different source enclosures reduce uncertainties in the absolute energy calibration to less than 0.5% for visible energies larger than 2 MeV. The uncertainty in the cosmogenic $^9$Li and $^8$He background is reduced from 45% to 30% in the near detectors. A detailed investigation of the spent nuclear fuel history improves its uncertainty from 100% to 30%. Analysis of the relative $\overline{\nu}_{e}$ rates and energy spectra among detectors yields $\sin^{2}2\theta_{13} = 0.0856\pm 0.0029$ and $\Delta m^2_{32}=(2.471^{+0.068}_{-0.070})\times 10^{-3}~\mathrm{eV}^2$ assuming the normal hierarchy, and $\Delta m^2_{32}=-(2.575^{+0.068}_{-0.070})\times 10^{-3}~\mathrm{eV}^2$ assuming the inverted hierarchy., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, and 1 table. v4: the published version

Abstract

We report the observation of ϒ(2S)→γηb(1S) decay based on an analysis of the inclusive photon spectrum of 24.7 fb-1 of e+e- collisions at the ϒ(2S) center-of-mass energy collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We measure a branching fraction of B[ϒ(2S)→γηb(1S)]=(6.1-0.7-0.6+0.6+0.9)×10-4 and derive an ηb(1S) mass of 9394.8-3.1-2.7+2.7+4.5 MeV/c2, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The significance of our measurement is greater than 7 standard deviations, constituting the first observation of this decay mode.

Abstract

With the rapid development of the three-dimensional printing (3D printing) technique, several electronic devices have been fabricated by 3D printing. Compared with the traditional micro electromechanical system (MEMS) manufacturing processes, the 3D printing technique provides a convenient method to meet the customers’ personalized demands. However, the applications of 3D printing are restricted by the electrically insulating properties of the commonly used polymers. Besides, additional alignment and assembling processes are still indispensable to fabricate the MEMS devices with geometrically complex structures using the conventional 3D printers. In order to solve these problems, an integrative 3D printing approach for rapid manufacturing is presented in this paper. With a triple-extruder 3D printer, the electrically insulating polylactic acid (PLA) filament, the electrically conductive PLA filament, and the soluble high impact polystyrene filament can be printed alternately in the 3D printing process. As an application of the method, a capacitive force sensor with a relatively complex suspended beam-plate structure was fabricated in a one-step 3D printing process without using any additional metallization process, unloading–reloading filament process, alignment process, and assembling process. With a good dynamic performance, the 3D printed force sensor was used to monitor human’s blood pulse. The results show that the integrative 3D printing method has potential to meet the emerging requirement for manufacturing of MEMS devices for personalized applications.

Abstract

In order to study a large number of generalized Bell states (GBSs) efficiently, it is important to classify them by local unitary (LU) equivalence. For example, there are C254(=12650) sets of four GBSs in C5⊗C5, which greatly exceed the C164(=1820) sets of four GBSs in C4⊗C4, and it is inconceivable to explore these sets directly without prior classification. In this paper, we consider the classification of GBS sets in C5⊗C5. First, two simple and useful characterizations of LU-equivalence of GBS sets are given. Then, one characterization is used to divide all 12 650 sets of four GBSs into eight equivalence classes including six locally distinguishable classes and two classes that cannot be discriminated by one-way local operations and classical communication. The second characterization is powerful and can be used to write a program, by using which all C255(=53130) sets of five GBSs in C5⊗C5 are divided into 21 equivalence classes including 9 locally distinguishable classes and 12 locally indistinguishable classes.

Abstract

We measure the time-dependent CP violation parameters in B⁰ ->[Formula: see text] decays using 772 x [Formula: see text] over bar pairs collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e⁺e⁻ collider. The obtained mixing-induced and direct CP asymmetries are -0.71 ± 0.23 (stat) ± 0.05 (syst) and 0.12 ± 0.16 (stat) ± 0.05 (syst), respectively. These values are consistent with the Standard Model predictions. The significance of CP violation differs from zero by 2.5 standard deviations.

Abstract

Extrusion-based printing technology has a promising development in the field of tissue engineering scaffold. Researchers package cells/particles in biomaterials and then extrude them through a nozzle and solidify to get a scaffold. This method can achieve uniform distribution of cells/particles in biomaterials or the addition of particles in biomaterials to enhance the mechanical properties of the scaffold. Sodium alginate is a kind of polysaccharide biomaterial which has a wide range of applications in the field of bioprinting. However, the diameter of the nozzle determines the accuracy of the cells/particles position in the alginate scaffold. A method of ultrasonic-assisted 3D bioprinting a composite of alginate and particles is proposed. The acoustic pressure can concentrate cells/particles to the center of the nozzle, which can achieve a more precise positioning than the diameter of the nozzle, and facilitate the purpose of depositing specific cells/particles to the determined location of the biomaterial.

Abstract

Extrusion-based bioprinting is one of the most common biomanufacturing methods. The bioink composed of biomaterials and living cells is extruded into cylindrical filaments. The filaments are deposited on the substrate and stacked layer by layer to form a three-dimensional structure. During the extrusion process, the ink tends to accumulate at the nozzle, which clogs the nozzle and increases extrusion pressure, resulting in the decrease of cell survival rate. Here, we propose a method of using ultrasound to manipulate cells to assist the bioprinting process, which can alleviate nozzle clogging. The ceramic piezoelectric plate(PZT) is used to drive the nozzle to generate structural resonance, and the ultrasonic standing wave generated by the vibration make the cells/particles in the ink gather at the center of the nozzle, thereby reducing the risk of clogging of the nozzle. In this paper, we first analyze the mechanism of the standing wave generated in the cylindrical elastic nozzle and drive the cells to move under the PZT drive, and then use the finite element software to simulate the standing wave drive process. The results show that this method can be solved by a simple and low-cost device. The results indicate that this method has the possibility of using simple and low-cost equipment to solve the problem of nozzle clogging in bioprinting.
