Integrated Project Design/Delivery is not new, but in recent years, it has been achieving the status of yet another acronym, more connected to its contractual details than to the actual meaning of the profound change in how work is to be developed. This book clarifies this situation by presenting several examples in academia, research and practical design situations, ranging from the use of old-style expression media, such as handmade drawings, to comprehensive digitalisation processes. The IPD model is shown as an effective way to tackle the ever-increasing challenges of balancing productivity with the urgent demands for designs that embrace decarbonisation, net-zero buildings, energy efficiency, modularisation and disassembly, including lessons learned from Industrial Design. IPD is a mindset that clashes with the traditional academic model of placing architecture and engineering in different (and frequently opposite) fields. Actual examples of course syllabuses'that disrupt this approach are also presented, showing how wide collaboration from the early stages of the design process can improve the sought-after result, providing future professionals with a hands-on experience of its efficiency as a work methodology.

In dieser empirischen Studie wird untersucht, welche Gestaltungspotenziale bei der öffentlichen Ausschreibung und Vergabe von Bauleistungen gesamthaft vorhanden sind und wie öffentliche Auftraggeber sowie Bauunternehmen deren Bedeutung für die Praxis einschätzen. Hierfür wurde ein methodenkombiniertes Vorgehen konzipiert, bei dem diese beiden Untersuchungsgruppen ausführlich zu den einzelnen Aspekten befragt wurden: qualitativ mittels Experteninterviews und quantitativ anhand eines Fragebogens. Durch diese Synthese konnten diejenigen Elemente bestimmt werden, die maßgeblichen Einfluss auf einen erfolgreichen Vergabeprozess haben können.Die aufschlussreichen Studienergebnisse werden eingehend erörtert. Es werden mögliche Erfolgsfaktoren für die Vergabepraxis zusammengestellt und praxisorientierte Hinweise für die mit der Ausschreibung und Vergabe befassten Beteiligten formuliert. Die Forschungsarbeit beabsichtigt, die häufig juristisch geprägte Vergabethematik sinnvoll und pragmatisch zu erweitern.

Das gut eingeführte Werk Ebene Flächentragwerke erscheint nun in der 2. Auflage. Ausgehend von einer Klassifikation der Modelle ebener Flächentragwerke und den Grundgleichungen der linearen Elastizitätstheorie werden zunächst systematisch die Gleichungen für isotrope Scheiben und Platten abgeleitet. Dabei wird ein didaktisch einheitliches Konzept eingesetzt. Die Gleichungen werden in kartesischen Koordinaten, Polarkoordinaten und schiefwinkligen Koordinaten formuliert. In Ergänzung der ersten Auflage wird auch eine Plattentheorie in koordinatenfreier Schreibweise behandelt, so dass der Leser einen leichteren Zugang zu modernen Konzepten der Formulierung von Flächentragwerkstheorien erhält. This book provides a fundamental understanding of the analytic process involved in solving complex problems, such as the influence of geometric nonlinearity on buckling, vibration, and second-order displacements. Because the book assumes linear behavior the solution can be evaluated using matrix math. Computer software, however, must be used to account for possible nonlinear material behavior due to the local yielding of the members that would result in changes to the elements of the stiffness matrix. Hence the computer solution must be iterative. The number of iterations and the iteration interval may be set manually by the user or internally by the software which can affect the solution.

The knowledge of the real forces acting on a structure are of great importance in the condition assessment process of existing structures. In this sense, this work provides a novel approach for identification of dynamic moving forces acting on a bridge structure. It seeks to find the optimal time dependent force values that minimize the difference between the computed and measured displacement and acceleration time histories for a limited number of sensor locations. The work also presents extensive experimental investigations of the developed method on real structures in operation, which consistently show that it can be successfully used on a wide range of applications: from small structures excited by rather low pedestrian forces up to the'heavy category'of a complete train passing a railway bridge. In this context, a set of particularities and limitations arising in the practical application of the method on real structures are also discussed.

Ausgehend von einer Entwicklung thermisch aktivierter Gebäudehüllelemente aus nahezu sortenreinen, zementgebundenen Werkstoffen, die jedoch aus einer tragenden Innenschale mit aufgebrachter Dämmung aus ultraleichtem, mineralisiertem Schaum sowie einer Vorhangfassade aus sehr dünnen, mikrobewehrten UHPC-Platten bestehen, wird die Frage diskutiert, inwiefern sich derartige Bauteile auch als tragende Sandwichelemente umsetzen lassen.Hierzu wird in einem ersten Schritt der mögliche Kerndämmstoff aus ultraleichtem, zementgebundenem Schaum mechanisch untersucht und die für eine Sandwichanwendung relevanten Werkstoffkenngrößen ermittelt. Für eine mögliche Berechnung von Sandwichelementen aus mineralisiertem, zementösem Schaum werden aus der Literatur bekannte Sandwichtheorien aufbereitet und im Hinblick auf ihre Anwendbarkeit bei einem derart schubweichen Kernmaterial sowie in Bezug auf den Rechenaufwand und die daraus generierte Genauigkeit der Ergebnisse miteinander verglichen und bewertet.Im Hinblick auf die Klimaschutzziele sollte bei allen neuartigen Konstruktionen immer auch die Frage des ökologischen Fußabdrucks gestellt werden. Dies erfolgt im Rahmen einer Produktökobilanzierung des mineralisierten Schaumes, durch die Ermittlung der herstellungsbedingten CO2 – äquivalenten Emissionen sowie des Primärenergiebedarfs und eines Vergleichs mit anderen Kerndämmstoffen. Die sortenreine Trennung des Schaumes von den Deckschichten kann für die Kombination mit Stahlbeton nachgewiesen werden.Die Umsetzung als Sandwichelement erfolgt abschließend mit funktionalisierten Deckschichten aus Wabenplatten, die über eine Trägerschicht aus Gipsputz mit dem Schaum verbunden werden, wobei die hohe Schwindneigung des Schaumes sich aktuell als Hindernis für eine dauerhafte, robuste Umsetzung zeigt.

In dieser Arbeit wird der Einfluss der Materialdaten und Simulationsparameter auf die Schwindungs- und Verzugssimulation untersucht. Hierzu werden experimentelle Spritzgießversuche an einem Kastenformteil durchgeführt und anschließend Schwindung und Verzug ausgewertet. Im Fokus steht ein teilkristallines Polybutylenterephthalat (PBT). Ergänzende Untersuchungen werden an einem kurzglasfaserverstärkten Polybutylenterephthalat (PBT-GF30) sowie einem amorphen Polystyrol (PS) durchgeführt. Ein Messwerterfassungssystem mit einem kombinierten Druck- und Temperatursensor (pT-Sensor) wird verwendet, um Einblicke in lokale Vorgänge während dem Spritzgießen zu erhalten. Materialdaten werden experimentell ermittelt und in die Spritzgießsimulationssoftware CADMOULD® überführt. Die ermittelten Schwindungs- und Verzugswerte, sowie die aufgenommenen Messdaten werden mit den Spritzgießsimulationen kritisch verglichen. Neben qualitativen Gegenüberstellungen von Schwindung und Verzug und des lokalen Druckverlaufs werden Haupteffektediagramme genutzt, um die Haupteinflussgrößen zu identifizieren. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass von allen Materialeigenschaften ein Einfluss auf Schwindung und Verzug ausgeht, wobei die Fließgrenztemperatur bei unverstärkten Thermoplasten den größten Effekt zeigt. Bei kurzglasfaserverstärkten Materialien geht zudem ein deutlicher Einfluss von richtungsabhängigen Materialdaten, wie dem Wärmeausdehnungskoeffizienten, aber auch den Modellparametern der Faserorientierungsberechnung aus. Neben den Einflüssen der Materialparameter zeigt sich ein deutlicher Einfluss des Wärmeübergangskoeffizienten zwischen Formteil und Kavität in der Nachdruckphase. Aus den Ergebnissen ergibt sich ein Leitfaden für die praktische Anwendung, zur gezielten Optimierung von Materialdaten, für eine möglichst adäquate Vorhersage von Schwindung und Verzug.

The present book deals with the structural characterization of paperboard materials. The main focus is set on the development of an engineering model for paperboard laminates for use in design processes. Furthermore, the bi-axial limits are examined and related to those of the single paperboard sheet, in order to enable the estimation of laminate performance from the properties of the single paperboard sheet on. Finally a simple model for failure estimation during bi-axial loading is established which relies on simple material tests.

The mathematical verification of the safety of structures can be done by determining the probability of failure or by using safety elements. Observed damages and collapses are usually assessed within the framework of expert reports, which seems reasonable due to the large number of unique structures in the construction industry. However, there should also be an examination of observed safety across all structures. Therefore, in this book the collapse frequencies are determined for different types of structures, such as bridges, dams, tunnels, retaining structures and buildings. The collapse frequency, like the failure probability, belongs to stochasticity. Therefore, the observed mean collapse frequencies and the calculated mean failure probabilities are compared. This comparison shows that the collapse frequencies are usually lower than the calculated failure probabilities. In addition, core damage frequencies and probabilities are given to extend the comparison to another technical product.
