Objectives: The aim of this study is to evaluate the possible relationship between the presence/absence of the self-reported sleep and/or awake bruxism and the chronotype profiles of dental students. Materials and Methods: The dental students at Istanbul Medipol University and Istanbul Medeniyet University in the fall semester of the 2020-2021 academic year participated in this study. Along with demographic data, an 11-item questionnaire evaluating sleep quality and self-reported sleep and awake bruxism, and a 19-question Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ) determining the chronotypes were applied. The significance level was set at P≤ 0.05 for statistical analysis. Results: 171 students (female:128, 74.9%; male:43, 25.1%) participated in the study. The mean age was 22.32.2. There was no statistical difference between the presence or absence of the bruxism types and the chronotype profiles of the students (P=0.815). Fertility variation, defined as a difference in the ability to create progeny (i.e., reproductive success) among individuals, was reviewed using the related available theoretical and practical literature in an attempt to contribute to and improve future studies on the subject. Fertility variation is a useful guide for various purposes such as gene conservation, seed production programs, forest genetic resource (i.e., seed sources) management, other forestry practices (e.g., regeneration), and evolutional and physiological studies. Many papers and proceedings have been published, including both theoretical and practical approaches, on how fertility variation has improved in the last two decades. Large variations in fertility were widely reported among populations within species and among species. We reviewed the literature and combined our diverse knowledge to examine fertility variations and their linkage parameters. Fertility variations and their related parameters (e.g., gene diversity, status number, effective parent number, parental–balance curves) estimated based on reproductive characteristics have been studied for many years using easy and cheap surveys that are used for different purposes in forest sciences. Their importance is increasing and their use is becoming more widespread because of these advantages, leading to improvements in research papers. While many research papers have recently been published on fertility variations and linkage parameters, a review paper has not been published to date. Therefore, a review paper is needed based on a literature survey and unpublished experience, as a guide for future studies.

Objective: Anthracyclines are widely used in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). However, cardiotoxicity is the most critical side effect that requires dose limitation. It is thought to occur at first exposure, but the clinical presentation may occur years later. In this study, we aimed to determine the time of initial damage and cardiotoxicity that develops in children with ALL. Methods: In this prospective study, 13 patients with newly diagnosed intermediate-risk precursor B cell ALL treated with the ALL-IC BFM 2009 protocol were included. Conventional echocardiography, tissue Doppler imaging (TDI), and speckle-tracking echocardiography (STE) were performed in all the patients before chemotherapy, after completing the induction phase, and at the end of the reinduction phase. Results: The mean age of the patients was 7.8+-4.6 (3.1–16.3) years. Myocardial velocity during systole (Sm) determined by TDI at the interventricular septum significantly decreased during the induction phase. Despite a decrease in STE parameters, a statistically significant reduction was determined in the global longitudinal strain rate at both left and right ventricles at the end of the induction. Nevertheless, a statistically significant increase was observed among the conventional echocardiographic findings in the left ventricular end-diastolic diameter at the end of the reinduction. Conclusion: During the treatment of ALL, subclinical anthracycline-associated cardiotoxicity develops in the early stages of treatment. The findings detected by TDI and STE could be missed by conventional echocardiography. We recommend evaluating patients with these newly developed techniques to detect subclinical cardiotoxicity at an early stage and starting appropriate therapy on time.

As it is known, to provide fire protection for any type of surface vessel, external fire-fighting (EFF) systems have been commonly used for decades as well as in coastal regions. These types of systems exist on several types of vessels such as fire-fighting ships, tugboats, supply vessels and naval vessels. Flow conditioners can be used in the EFF systems to provide better performance by regulating the flow inside the fi-fi monitor. In the present study, a fire-fighting (fi-fi) monitor was designed and different flow conditioners were implemented into the fi-fi monitor. A unique flow conditioner was designed in addition to the recommended ones by ISO 5167-3 in order to improve the performance of the flow conditioner in terms of head ratio and flow rate. A commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver was used to investigate the performance of the different flow conditioners. Before comparing the numerical results of different flow conditioners, the numerical model was validated with the experimental data and verified with appropriate methods. The results showed that the unique flow conditioner successfully regulates the streamlines and it has better performance than the recommended ones by ISO 5167-3 in terms of flow rate and head ratio. As the last part of the study, the effect of unique flow conditioner length was investigated and the best length was determined.

The authors report that cytoplasmic localised plasmid DNA is incorporated into the nucleus as it reforms during M-exit and transgene expression was achieved only after nuclear reformation in the next G1.

BackgroundPeritoneal carcinomatosis in ovarian cancer is frequent and generally associated with higher stage and poorer outcome. The clinical features of peritoneal carcinomatosis are diverse and their relevance for surgical and long-term outcome remains unclear. We conducted this prospective study to describe intraoperatively the different features of peritoneal carcinomatosis(PC) and correlate them with clinicopathological features, progression-free(PFS) and overall survival (OS),.MethodsWe performed a systematic analysis of all patients with documented intraoperative PC and a primary diagnosis of epithelial ovarian, tubal, or peritoneal cancer from January 2001 to September 2018. All data were evaluated by using the systematic tumor bank tool. Specific PC features included texture(soft-hard), consistency(coarse-fine or both), wet vs dry(PC with ascites vs. PC without ascites), and localization(diffuse-local). PC characteristics were then evaluated for correlation with age, FIGO-stage, histology, lymph-node involvement, grade, and presence of residual tumor at primary surgery. Moreover, the influence of PC characteristics on OS and PFS was analyzed.ResultsA total of 1686 patients with PC and primary epithelial ovarian cancer were included. Majority of the patients were characterized by diffuse PC(73.9%). The majority of peritoneal nodules were fine in texture (55.3%) and hard in consistency (87.4%). In this research, it is studied the crack and flexural behavior of reinforced concrete beams with various bottom ash ratios (BARs) considered as fine aggregate in an experimental and numerical investigation. For experimental purposes, different concrete series are considered varying aggregate sizes ranging from 0 to 25 mm. To supplement concrete, bottom ash is put to use in conjunction with material from 0–5 mm in size aggregate particles as replacement for fine aggregates with ratios of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. Experiments were done to investigate the behavior of the beams and how flexural and fracture behaviors are represented. 75% BARs gave optimum results in terms of displacement capacity. Increasing BAR to 100% decrease deflection capacity of the beam. Also, ANSYS software is used to build 3D finite element models (FEMs) of beams to compare with experiment data. Experimental and 3D numerical tests show exceptionally tight flexural and fracture behaviors. Following this, a computer-generated structure is made by running SAP 2000, and the strength of the beams is then utilised in an RC structural model. Every stage of the building’s construction is thoroughly assessed utilizing multiple types of seismic testing, employing the SAP2000 program, with the resulting analysis providing significant findings on how the seismic force of 75% BAR affects horizontal displacement of each floor. The results showed that the weight of the structure dramatically decreases as the number of columns and RCBs are raised while also increasing the number of BARs. Moreover, the magnitude of earthquake and BAR have a significant effect on the horizontal displacement behavior of reinforced concrete structures. The strength of the concrete structure varies between close- and far-fault earthquakes, and for close-fault earthquakes, concrete strength is stronger than for far-fault earthquakes. This brings us to the second disadvantage of BAR which is the 75% strain produces a severe displacement of reinforced concrete structures. Besides, it was seen that the simulations and experiments yield tiny cracks with very identical configurations.

Abstract Background Early identification of severe COVID-19 patients who will need intensive care unit (ICU) follow-up and providing rapid, aggressive supportive care may reduce mortality and provide optimal use of medical resources. We aimed to develop and validate a nomogram to predict severe COVID-19 cases that would need ICU follow-up based on available and accessible patient values. Methods Patients hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 between March 15, 2020, and June 15, 2020, were enrolled in this retrospective study with 35 variables obtained upon admission considered. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression models were constructed to select potential predictive parameters using 1000 bootstrap samples. Afterward, a nomogram was developed with 5 variables selected from multivariable analysis. The nomogram model was evaluated by Area Under the Curve (AUC) and bias-corrected Harrell's C-index with 95% confidence interval, Hosmer–Lemeshow Goodness-of-fit test, and calibration curve analysis. Results Out of a total of 1022 patients, 686 cases without missing data were used to construct the nomogram. Of the 686, 104 needed ICU follow-up. The final model includes oxygen saturation, CRP, PCT, LDH, troponin as independent factors for the prediction of need for ICU admission. The model has good predictive power with an AUC of 0.93 (0.902–0.950) and a bias-corrected Harrell's C-index of 0.91 (0.899–0.947). Hosmer–Lemeshow test p-value was 0.826 and the model is well-calibrated (p = 0.1703). Conclusion We developed a simple, accessible, easy-to-use nomogram with good distinctive power for severe illness requiring ICU follow-up. Clinicians can easily predict the course of COVID-19 and decide the procedure and facility of further follow-up by using clinical and laboratory values of patients available upon admission.

The aim of this study was to raise the awareness of pre-school teacher candidates within the framework of media literacy the importance of which has been noticed recently in Turkey and which has attracted attention of academic circles as a research topic. In addition, by providing opportunities for pre-school candidates to design materials on this topic, it also aimed to help them practice what they know and internalize the information they would obtain on media literacy. In this regard, the article introduces the notice board practices of media literacy theme performed by teacher candidates for pre-school students and their parents. Teacher candidates made their own choices on designing notice boards either for children or for their parents. Encouraging candidates to design such notice boards and to use them in training and then in their professional life is extremely important for them both to discover their own creativity and to develop their hand skills. Moreover, dealing with the media literacy theme and expecting them to develop materials by informing the candidates on this issue is a step taken towards raising the awareness of teacher candidates who will educate future generations. From this point of view, it could be recommended to provide practices on board and material development and use within the framework of media literacy theme through in-service seminars for teachers currently continuing their professional life; and to share functional teaching materials among teachers on various platforms (conferences, congress, workshops etc.).

This study was conducted in unheated greenhouses and open-field nurseries of Ordu University Agricultural Faculty in 2017. Effects of hazelnut husk compost and tea residue compost on quality and performance of 5 BB American grapevine rootstock saplings were investigated. The 5 BB American vine rootstock saplings were used as the plant material and different media (soil, perlite, tea residue compost, hazelnut husk compost, soil + farmyard manure, soil + tea residue compost, soil + hazelnut husk compost, soil + tea residue compost + farmyard manure, soil + hazelnut husk compost + farmyard manure, soil + hazelnut husk compost + tea residue compost + farmyard manure) were used as the growing media. To determine the effects of experimental treatments, shoot growth parameters (shoot length, shoot diameter, number of leaves, leaf area, shoot dry weight), root growth parameters (root length, number of roots, root fresh and dry weight, root development level) and final sapling performance (1st grade sapling performance, 2nd grade sapling performance, total sapling performance) were determined. Tea residue compost was found to be effective on shoot and root growth parameters. Tea residue compost also yielded the greatest 1st grade (75%) and total sapling performance (90%). Soil + hazelnut husk compost + farmyard manure (79.6 cm2) was prominent for leaf area and soil + tea residue compost + farmyard manure (28.1) was prominent for chlorophyll content. Soil + hazelnut husk compost + tea residue compost + farmyard manure (21.9 cm) was found to more effective only on root length.

Plant diseases cause significant decreases in yield and quality of crops and consequently pose a very substantial threat to food security. In the continuous search for environmentally friendly crop protection, exploitation of RNA interferance machinery is showing promising results. It is well established that small RNAs (sRNAs) including microRNA (miRNA) and small interfering RNA (siRNA) are involved in the regulation of gene expression via both transcriptional and post-transcriptional RNA silencing. sRNAs from host plants can enter into pathogen cells during invasion and silence pathogen genes. This process has been exploited through Host-Induced Gene Silencing (HIGS), in which plant transgenes that produce sRNAs are engineered to silence pest and pathogen genes. Similarly, exogenously applied sRNAs can enter pest and pathogen cells, either directly or via the hosts, and silence target genes. This process has been exploited in Spray-Induced Gene Silencing (SIGS). Here, we focus on the role of sRNAs and review how they have recently been used against various plant pathogens through HIGS or SIGS-based methods and discuss advantages and drawbacks of these approaches.

BACKGROUND: Social media provides an opportunity for people to connect and form communities. This community architecture can help to disseminate health-related information in the form of an awareness campaign. The European Society of Gynaecological Oncology and the European Network of Gynaecological Cancer Advocacy Groups initiated a global campaign, World Gynecologic Oncology Day, on September 20, 2020. We studied and analyzed the impact and reach of this Twitter campaign. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the impact and reach of the 2020 World Gynecologic Oncology Day Twitter campaign. STUDY DESIGN: We analyzed gynecologic oncology–specific posts (tweets) between 12 am on September 17, 2020, to 11:59 pm on September 25, 2020 (Coordinated Universal Time), covering the days immediately before and after World Gynecological Oncology Day (September 20, 2020), using Tweepy. The European Network of Gynecological Cancer Advocacy Groups suggested hashtags (#GoForPurple, #WorldGODay, and #GoForCheckup) should be used for this social media campaign. We used these hashtags for our data (tweet) collection. RESULTS: A total of 382 Twitter accounts participated in this campaign and 662 tweets, including retweets, were reported. Of those, 22% of participants were healthcare professionals. A total of 164 unique hashtags were identified, and #WorldGODay was the most frequently used among the Twitter accounts. #VaginalCancer, #CervicalCancer, and #VulvarCancer were used in relation to the campaign. We identified 5 significant communities that contributed to raising awareness. CONCLUSION: Twitter campaigns should be designed around a single, short, easy-to-spell hashtag and coordinated with previously identified influential accounts using timed tweets. #WorldGOday hashtag was relevant, easy to spell, memorable, and the most effective hashtag used in this campaign.

The revolutionary CRISPR/Cas9 genome-editing technology has emerged as a powerful tool for plant improvement, offering unprecedented precision and efficiency in making targeted gene modifications. This powerful and practical approach to genome editing offers tremendous opportunities for crop improvement, surpassing the capabilities of conventional breeding techniques. This article provides an overview of recent advancements and challenges associated with the application of CRISPR/Cas9 in plant improvement. The potential of CRISPR/Cas9 in terms of developing crops with enhanced resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses is highlighted, with examples of genes edited to confer disease resistance, drought tolerance, salt tolerance, and cold tolerance. Here, we also discuss the importance of off-target effects and the efforts made to mitigate them, including the use of shorter single-guide RNAs and dual Cas9 nickases. Furthermore, alternative delivery methods, such as protein- and RNA-based approaches, are explored, and they could potentially avoid the integration of foreign DNA into the plant genome, thus alleviating concerns related to genetically modified organisms (GMOs). We emphasize the significance of CRISPR/Cas9 in accelerating crop breeding processes, reducing editing time and costs, and enabling the introduction of desired traits at the nucleotide level. As the field of genome editing continues to evolve, it is anticipated that CRISPR/Cas9 will remain a prominent tool for crop improvement, disease resistance, and adaptation to challenging environmental conditions.

This study was carried out to estimate the effect of crown closure classes (degraded forest, low crown coverage, medium crown coverage, and full crown coverage) and growth characteristics (three heights, diameter at base, diameter at breast height, and crown diameter) on cone production and to estimate fertility variation and its allied parameters in 130-year-old natural populations of Taurus cedar, also called cedar of Lebanon (Cedrus libani A. Rich.). The effect of biotic (e.g., growth characteristics, crown closure) and abiotic (e.g., light penetration, temperature, humidity, and soil characteristics) factors on cone production, fertility variation, and gene diversity was evaluated in two consecutive years of Taurus cedar. The factors, viz., altitude, temperature, aspect, and rainfall, varied, while some of them could be managed by cultural operations such as management of the crown and stand density. The impact of crown closure on cone production, fertility variation, and related parameters were observed in Taurus cedar’s natural populations sampled from southern Turkey. Maximum cone productions of 29 and 40/tree were recorded with full crown closure in two consecutive years, due to significant differences among individuals within crown closure class. For instance, cone productions were between 10 and 67 in the full crown closure of the first year. The sibling coefficient, which is a measure of the fertility variation in a stand, was the highest (1.16) for the full crown closure in the first (meaning 86% fertile trees) and the second years (1.55, 65%), while it was the lowest for the medium crown closure (1.09, 92%) in both years. Gene diversity decreased from a degraded patch (0.987) to that with full crown closure (0.984). Results of variance analysis showed a significant (p ≤ 0.05) difference between crown closure classes for cone production within the second year and between years. Significant positive (p ≤ 0.05) correlations were noted between years for cone production (r = 0.22) and between cone production and crown closure in the first and second years (r = 0.29). However, growth characteristics had no effect on cone productions in individual crown closure classes, while there were significant (p ≤ 0.05) correlations between the diameter at breast height and cone production for both years (r = 0.15 and 0.17) in pooled populations.

Abstract To compare enzalutamide (E) and abiraterone acetate (AA) in terms of efficacy, survival and to characterize prognostic factors affecting survival in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) patients. A total of 250 patients treated with E or AA in 5 centers were included. The number of patients with no prostate specific antigen (PSA) decline was higher in the AA group than that in the E group, and the proportion of patients with a PSA decline of ≥ 50% was higher in the E group (p = 0.020). This study was carried out on 113 seed orchards which of removed 20 orchards established before 2003 of Brutian pine (Pinus brutia Ten.) and Black Pine (Pinus nigra Arnold.) by collected data from The Research Directorate of Forest Tree Seeds and Tree Breeding of Turkey. Effective number of clones and gene diversity were estimated in the orchards to contribute tending and other management practices of present seed orchards and establishment of the future orchards. While there were large differences among orchards and within species, averages were 40.7 for clone numbers, 32.0 (85.1% of clone number) for effective number of clone, and 0.982 for gene diversity in active seed orchards of Brutian pine. They were 32.3, 28.2 (89.6%) and 0.981 in in active seed orchards of Black pine, respectively. Removed seed orchards had lower averages of clone number, effective number of clone and gene diversity than active seed orchards in the both species opposite to coefficient of variation of ramet numbers used in establishment. Results of the study were discussed for establishment, breeding and tending practices of seed orchards to contribute management of the seed orchards.

Iron is an essential metal for cellular metabolism and signaling, but it has adverse effects in excess. The physiological consequences of iron deficiency are well established, yet the relationship between iron supplementation and pericellular oxygen levels in cultured cells and their downstream effects on metalloproteins has been less explored. This study exploits the metalloprotein geNOps in cultured HEK293T epithelial and EA.hy926 endothelial cells to test the iron-dependency in cells adapted to standard room air (18 kPa O2) or physiological normoxia (5 kPa O2). We show that cells in culture require iron supplementation to activate the metalloprotein geNOps and demonstrate for the first time that cells adapted to physiological normoxia require significantly lower iron compared to cells adapted to hyperoxia. This study establishes an essential role for recapitulating oxygen levels in vivo and uncovers a previously unrecognized requirement for ferrous iron supplementation under standard cell culture conditions to achieve geNOps functionality.

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı baş boyun kanserli (BBK) hastalarımızın genel özelliklerini, risk faktörlerini, tedavi modalitelerini gözden geçirmek ve sağkalımlarını hesaplayıp sağkalımı ve tedavi sonuçlarını etkileyen faktörleri değerlendirmekti. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Altmış yedi BBK tanılı hasta değerlendirildi. Çalışmanın verileri Sakarya Üniversitesi Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesinde 2011-2020 yılları arasında takipli hastaların dosyalarından elde edildi. Bulgular: Tanı anındaki medyan yaş erkekler 62, kadınlar 50 olmak üzere tüm hastalarda 62 ± 11,42 (aralık: 19-82) idi. En sık yerleşim yeri %55 oranla larinks idi. Sigara ve alkol kullanım oranları sırasıyla %69 ve %18 idi. Sekonder malignite oranı %18 olup en sık görüleni akciğer kanseriydi (%9, n = 6). Hastaların tanı anındaki evreleri 1,2,3 ve 4 sırasıyla %13,45 (n = 9), %22,47 (n = 15), %50,77(n = 34) ve %11,93 (n = 8) idi. Hastaların tanı anında ya da takibi sırasında olmak üzere toplam %42’si metastatikti. Metastaz bölgeleri 13 hastada (%19,45) akciğer, 10 hastada (%15) lenf nodu, 7 hastada (%10,56) kemik, ve 1 hastada (%1,50) karaciğerdi. Lokal rekürrens %27 (n = 18) oranındaydı. Evre 1,2 ve 3 58 hastanın %50’sinde lokal rekürrens ve/veya metastaz gelişmişti. Bu hastaların çoğunluğu evre 3 hastalardı (n = 17 (%59)). Evre 1-2 hastalarda medyan hastalıksız sağkalım 49 ± 29,65 ay (aralık: 0-107 ay) iken evre 3 hastalarda medyan hastalıksız sağkalım 19 ± 10,95 ay (aralık: 0-40 ay) idi. Metastatik birinci seri kemoterapi sonrası medyan progresyonsuz sağkalım 8±3 ay (aralık: 2-14 ay) ve tüm hastalarda medyan genel sağkalım 192±83 ay idi. Sonuç: Çalışmamızda sekonder malignite gelişme oranı hafif yüksekti. Radyoterapi eş zamanlı sisplatin total dozları literatürdeki benzer diğer çalışmalara göre hafifçe düşüktü. En çok tercih edilen metastatik birinci seri kemoterapi kombinasyonu sisplatin/5Fluorourasil/setuximab’tı. Progresyonsuz sağkalım sonuçları literatüre göre hafif yüksekti.

The aim of this study is to examine prospective science teachers' (PSTs) mental models and meanings for the concept of chemical reaction. For this purpose, this study adopted a phenomenological research design including 48 PSTs. To determine the mental modeling about chemical reactions, PSTs were given an interview card showing the reaction between magnesium and oxygen gas, and were asked to draw and visualize this reaction and a semi-structured interview was held about the specified reaction. The results revealed that the majority of the PSTs used the particle atom model to model for the chemical reactions, and as their education level increased, the models they used shifted from the particle model to the atomic model. In addition, the explanations showed that all the PSTs explained the reaction of magnesium with oxygen gas at the macroscopic level in the first stage and when asked the evocative interview question, most of them explained the reaction at the microscopic level, but some PSTs continued to make explanations at the macroscopic level despite the hinted interview problem. It was also found that the transition from the macroscopic level to the microscopic level of the PSTs’ explanations with the evocative interview question was influenced by the education level and their mental models regarding the reaction. In chemistry teaching starting from the high school senior year, it is recommended to use visual materials related to reactions based on atomic models instead of particle-based materials.

Şekerpancarı üretiminde verim ve kalite için azot (N) ve bor (B) gübrelemesi önemlidir. Fakat fazla azotlu (N) gübreler kalite parametreleri üzerinde olumsuz etkilere neden olmaktadır. Hayvan yemi olarak kullanılan şeker pancarı yapraklarında nitrat birikiminin artması da olumsuz etkilenen kalite parametrelerinden birisidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, şeker pancarına farklı dozda azot ve bor uygulamasının bitki yapraklarında nitrat birikimi üzerine etkisini incelemektir. Çalışma, Kahramanmaraş ili Elbistan İlçesinde 2017 yılında B içeriği 0,56 mg kg-1 olan bir arazide yürütülmüştür. Deneme tesadüf blokları faktöriyel deneme desenine göre 3 tekerrürlü olarak kurulmuştur. Denemede 5 farklı N dozu (0, 9,18, 27, 36 kg N da-1) ve 4 farklı B dozu (0, 200, 400, 600 g B da-1) uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada temmuz, ağustos, eylül ve ekim aylarında yaprak örnekleri alınmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre N dozu arttıkça yaprakların nitrat içeriği istatistiksel olarak önemli derecede artmıştır. Bor uygulamasının yaprakların nitrat içeriği üzerine etkisi önemli bulunmamıştır. Hasat dönemine doğru yaprakların nitrat içeriği istatistiksel olarak önemli düzeyde azalmıştır. In women with unexplained infertility (UI) and recurrent in vitro fertilization (IVF) failures, the etiology is often unclear. Endometrial immune perturbations and the use of immune markers associated with these dysregulations are of great interest in the diagnosis and treatment of UI. However, reliable biomarkers and standardized quantification methods are lacking. Here, to address endometrial immune dysregulation in UI patients with recurrent IVF failures, we performed endometrial tissue sampling and immunostaining of CD56 (uNK), CD138, and BCL-6. Of these cases, 57.9% had positive CD56 in the endometrial stroma, while 46.1% had positive BCL-6 in the glandular epithelium, and 14.5% of the cases were found to be positive for CD138. Combined staining rates were 60.5%, 68.4%, and 71.05% for (CD56 or BCL-6), (CD56 or CD138), and (CD56, BCL-6, or CD138), respectively. There was a significant correlation between CD56 and BCL-6 positivity, while CD138 positivity was an independent parameter. After the recommended targeted therapy, pregnancy rates were found to increase from 58.5% to 61.6% and 73.8% in CD56-positive, (CD56- or BCL-6-positive), and (CD56-, BCL-6-, or CD138-positive) cases, respectively. Notably, a retrospective evaluation of digital pathology and light microscopy results showed a significant correlation. This study suggests that the examination of CD56, BCL-6, and CD138 in the same endometrial sample may be an effective method in determining the etiology of UI and reaching an early diagnosis and treatment options. Moreover, digital pathology can be used in the evaluation of CD56 and BCL-6 to provide objective, rapid, and reliable results.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to investigate whether sarcopenia had the potential to predict mortality by analyzing epicardial and visceral fat thickness measurements, which are among the radiological findings and scores known to be crucial in determining the prognosis and risk classification of patients diagnosed with acute pulmonary embolism (PE) in the emergency department. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study included patients diagnosed with acute PE in the emergency department from January 2019 to December 2022 and involved the retrospective examination of their demographic characteristics, clinical parameters, and radiological data obtained from computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) [main pulmonary artery (MPA) diameter, pulmonary artery obstruction, right and left ventricular diameters, epicardial and visceral tissue thicknesses, and pectoralis muscle thickness (PMT)]. The primary endpoint was mortality during the hospitalized treatment and follow-up processes, and the secondary endpoint was mortality within 90 days after diagnosis. RESULTS: Of the 389 patients included in the study, 11.6% had a fatal outcome in the early period following hospitalization for treatment, and 22.6% had a fatal outcome within the 90-day (late) period after diagnosis. In patients with late-period mortality, pleural fluid (30.8%), pericardial fluid (16.7%), and atelectasis (32.6%) were found to be statistically significantly higher. Among the markers obtained from imaging examinations, only PMT - right: 9.4 [interquartile range (IQR): 6.0-14.0]; left: 9.1 (IQR: 5.4-13.8) - was associated with mortality. According to logistic regression analysis, the MPA diameter was associated with early-period mortality, and it was determined that the right ventricular diameter and the right and left PMT values had a predictive effect on late-period mortality. CONCLUSIONS: To predict mortality, CTPA-based scoring systems that include markers such as PMT, pericardial and pleural fluid, and atelectasis would be more effective; however, large-scale studies are needed to enrich these findings. Background and objectives: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has necessitated the switch to distance education by abandoning face-to-face education worldwide. This study aimed to investigate whether it is possible for practical education and performance measurements through distance education. Methods: The application video and the application steps were sent to the participants through their smartphone by WhatsApp messenger. Grade 1 students in the Physiotherapy Section (Group A) and Grade 1 students in the Paramedic Section (Group B) voluntarily participated in the study. The participants were asked to apply simulation applications and record the simulation applications' video clips with their smartphones. Results: The mean age of the 123 participants was 20.11 ± 2.03 (18-33) years, and 56 (45.5%) were in Group A, and 67 (54.5%) were in Group B. While the participants in Group A were successful at a rate of 35.7% (n = 20) in the head tilt-chin lift maneuver, this rate was 65.7% (n = 44) for Group B (p = 0.001). For the jaw thrust maneuver, the success rate was 21.4% (n = 12) for Group A and 31.3% (n = 21) for Group B. Conclusion: In this study, the participants used family members as a live simulation model in our research. The participants who were given face-to-face education before were more successful on head tilt chin lift maneuver. Jaw thrust maneuver was more challenging to learn and practice by distance education. The academicians interested in medical education should keep in mind that the outcomes of the COVID-19 pandemic have permanent effects on education systems.
