Ultrafast charging can help increase the adoption of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) as it solves the prime issues of range anxiety and long charging time. However, for conventional 400 V battery systems, these high charging currents can become infeasible due to cable limitations and thermal issues. Fortunately, 800 V systems can provide higher charging power capacity at lower current levels, better enabling ultrafast charging. The emerging shift to 800 V systems from 400 V systems requires careful design considerations for the on-board charger (OBC). This article fills a gap in the literature by performing a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art 800 V passenger BEV OBC topologies and control, focusing primarily on 1-phase topologies as the majority of residential charging connections are 1-phase. This article also reviews the main design challenges for 800 V OBCs and relevant industrial products, and provides a discussion of related future trends.

Background and Aims: Ileus, mechanical bowel obstruction, and acute colonic pseudo-obstruction are characterized by distension of the intestines with accumulated bowel gas. Current treatments are not completely satisfactory. Methods: By manipulating the partial pressures of oxygen and nitrogen in the trapped air with a novel 6-hour treatment with 100% oxygen via nonrebreather mask, the bowel can be successfully decompressed, facilitating resolution of the underlying condition. Results: A positive clinical response was seen in 7/8 [87.5%] patients after therapeutic oxygen for gastrointestinal atony. Maximal lumen diameter decreased by an average of 1.14 ± 0.87 cm [16%]. Conclusion: In this first clinical report of therapeutic oxygen for gastrointestinal atony, the provision of 100% oxygen via nonrebreather mask is a useful therapy. It decreased the diameter of the intestinal lumen and enhanced resolution of ileus, acute colonic pseudo-obstruction, and bowel obstruction. This is a low-morbidity, low-cost treatment of gastrointestinal luminal distension.ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier NCT03386136.st.

Diesel-based vehicles are prevalent in underground mines all over the world; however, an electric revolution is beginning to unfold in the mining industry. Mines operating with diesel fleets require extensive ventilation due to toxic gas and heat emissions from diesel engines, and these ventilation costs increase as mines continue to dig deeper for depleting resources. Electric mining vehicles have zero emissions and emit less heat, meaning ventilation costs decrease. Furthermore, unlike diesel trucks, electric trucks can capture regenerative braking energy on downhill segments. Recent battery advancements have allowed electric mining trucks to become cost-competitive with their diesel counterparts when all system-level advantages are considered. However, there is presently a lack of knowledge in designing an optimal electric mining fleet and charging infrastructure, compared to the many decades of “best practices” available for diesel fleets. To fill this gap, this paper proposes an optimization algorithm for battery electric fleets in underground mines which provides insights into the design of electric fleets. This work identifies critical input design parameters, presents a battery optimization algorithm, and uses detailed vehicle models to simulate mining productivity and truck energy use. The main algorithm considers ventilation costs, charger infrastructure costs, fleet labor costs, truck energy costs, and truck capital costs (including battery lifetime) to obtain an overall cost-per-tonne output metric. The algorithm is tested on a variety of scenarios, and some key findings are that fast-charging with optimal battery sizes results in the lowest ${\$}$ /tonne and this result decreases as fast-charging levels increase to 450 kW.

The cancellation problem asks whether $A[X_1,X_2,\ldots,X_n] \cong B[Y_1,Y_2,\ldots,Y_n]$ implies $A \cong B$. Hamann introduced the class of steadfast rings as the rings for which a version of the cancellation problem considered by Abhyankar, Eakin, and Heinzer holds. By work of Asanuma, Hamann, and Swan, steadfastness can be characterized in terms of $p$-seminormality, which is a variant of normality introduced by Swan. We prove that $p$-seminormality and steadfastness deform for reduced Noetherian local rings. We also prove that $p$-seminormality and steadfastness are stable under adjoining formal power series variables for reduced (not necessarily Noetherian) rings. Our methods also give new proofs of the facts that normality and weak normality deform, which are of independent interest., Comment: 22 pages. Comments welcome! v2: Minor changes

Tensor contraction operations in computational chemistry consume significant fractions of computing time on large-scale computing platforms. The widespread use of tensor contractions between large multi-dimensional tensors in describing electronic structure theory has motivated the development of multiple tensor algebra frameworks targeting heterogeneous computing platforms. In this paper, we present Tensor Algebra for Many-body Methods (TAMM), a framework for productive and performance-portable development of scalable computational chemistry methods. The TAMM framework decouples the specification of the computation and the execution of these operations on available high-performance computing systems. With this design choice, the scientific application developers (domain scientists) can focus on the algorithmic requirements using the tensor algebra interface provided by TAMM whereas high-performance computing developers can focus on various optimizations on the underlying constructs such as efficient data distribution, optimized scheduling algorithms, efficient use of intra-node resources (e.g., GPUs). The modular structure of TAMM allows it to be extended to support different hardware architectures and incorporate new algorithmic advances. We describe the TAMM framework and our approach to sustainable development of tensor contraction-based methods in computational chemistry applications. We present case studies that highlight the ease of use as well as the performance and productivity gains compared to other implementations.

In cattle, colostral maternal immunoglobulins and lymphocytes transfer across the neonate’s intestinal epithelium to provide protection against pathogens. This study aimed to compare repertoires of B cell populations in blood and colostrum in cows for the first time, with an emphasis on ultralong complementarity determining region 3 (CDR3, ≥40 amino acids). Blood mononuclear cells (BMCs, n= 7) and colostral cells (n = 7) were isolated from Holstein-Friesian dairy cows. Magnetic-activated cell sorting was used to capture IgM and IgG B cells from BMCs. Colostral cells were harvested by centrifugation. RNA was extracted and cDNA was produced; IgM and IgG transcripts were amplified using polymerase chain reactions. Amplicons were sequenced using the Nanopore Native barcoding kit 24 V14 and MinION with R10.4 flow cells. In colostrum, there was a significantly greater percentage of IgM B cells with ultralong CDR3s (8.09% ± 1.73 standard error of the mean) compared to blood (4.22% ± 0.70, p = 0.05). There was a significantly greater percentage of IgG B cells in colostrum with ultralong CDR3s (12.98% ± 1.98) compared to blood (6.61% ± 1.11, p = 0.05). A higher percentage of IgM and IgG B cells with ultralong CDR3s in colostrum may be indicative of a potential role in protecting the neonate.

Physics Education Research has a rich history of identifying common student ideas about specific physics topics. In the context of electric circuits, existing research on students’ ideas has primarily focused on misconceptions, misunderstandings, and difficulties. In this paper, we take a resource-oriented approach to identifying common student ideas about circuits by characterizing ideas we see as generative “seeds of science” that could form the basis of more sophisticated understandings. Based on our analysis of 1557 university physics student responses to five conceptual questions, we identify four common resources for understanding circuits.

HERMITIAN forms ,TWO-dimensional bar codes ,LINEAR systems - Abstract
This paper evaluates the accuracy of the Hermitian form of the downfolding procedure using the double unitary coupled cluster (DUCC) ansatz on the benchmark systems of linear chains of hydrogen atoms, H6 and H8. The computational infrastructure employs the occupation-number-representation codes to construct the matrix representation of arbitrary second-quantized operators, allowing for the exact representation of exponentials of various operators. The tests demonstrate that external amplitudes from standard single-reference coupled cluster methods that sufficiently describe external (out-of-active-space) correlations reliably parameterize the Hermitian downfolded effective Hamiltonians in the DUCC formalism. The results show that this approach can overcome the problems associated with losing the variational character of corresponding energies in the corresponding SR-CC theories. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

IntroductionPancreatic cancer (PC) screening recommendations have been based on studies performed solely at high-volume academic centers. To make PC screening more widely available, community-based efforts are essential. We implemented a prospective PC screening study in the community of Fairfield County, CT, and report our early safety and efficacy results.MethodsEligible individuals were enrolled into an investigator-initiated study and underwent a baseline and 3 annual magnetic resonance imagings/magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatographies (MRIs/MRCPs) with gadolinium, biannual blood donations for biobanking, and assessments for anxiety and depression. All MRIs were presented at a multidisciplinary board to determine whether further investigation was warranted.ResultsSeventy-five individuals have been enrolled and 201 MRIs performed over a 2.6-year average length of follow-up. Abnormal pancreatic findings (predominantly small cysts) were detected in 58.7% of the participants. Among these, 6.7% underwent endoscopic ultrasound, with 1 case complicated by postprocedural pancreatitis. One surgical resection was performed on a 4.7-cm intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm with a focus on low-grade pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia. One incidental finding of fibrosing mediastinitis was detected. Anxiety and depression scores decreased over the course of this study from 21.4% to 5.4% and 10.7% to 3.6%, respectively.DiscussionThis preliminary report supports the feasibility of performing MRI/magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatographies-based PC screening as part of a clinical trial in a community setting. A longer follow-up is needed to better assess safety and efficacy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report from a community-based PC screening effort ( clinicaltrials.gov ID: NCT03250078).

Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and intellectual disability (ID), are pervasive, often lifelong disorders, lacking evidence-based interventions for core symptoms. With no established biological markers, diagnoses are defined by behavioral criteria. Thus, preclinical in vivo animal models of NDDs must be optimally utilized. For this reason, experts in the field of behavioral neuroscience convened a workshop with the goals of reviewing current behavioral studies, reports, and assessments in rodent models. Goals included: (a) identifying the maximal utility and limitations of behavior in animal models with construct validity; (b) providing recommendations for phenotyping animal models; and (c) guidelines on how in vivo models should be used and reported reliably and rigorously while acknowledging their limitations. We concluded by recommending minimal criteria for reporting in manuscripts going forward. The workshop elucidated a consensus of potential solutions to several problems, including revisiting claims made about animal model links to ASD (and related conditions). Specific conclusions included: mice (or other rodent or preclinical models) are models of the neurodevelopmental insult, not specifically any disorder (e.g., ASD); a model that perfectly recapitulates a disorder such as ASD is untenable; and greater attention needs be given to validation of behavioral testing methods, data analysis, and critical interpretation.

- Abstract
Although there is a body of literature that addresses victimization of adolescents based on their membership in stigmatized groups, there is little that focuses on this type of aggression delivered digitally. Furthermore, the extant literature typically focuses on the targets of such aggression, but scant attention has been paid to the aggressors. To address this gap, the current study investigated characteristics of perpetrators of bias-based cyberaggression in a sample of 554 self-reported cyber-aggressors among 1695 12- to-15-year-old adolescents in northwestern Mexico. Approximately one-fourth of these cyber-aggressors engaged in bias-based cyberaggression. Demographic characteristics were investigated in an attempt to describe those most at risk for perpetration of bias-based aggression. In addition, the influence of moral disengagement was examined in this unique sample. Results showed that cyber-aggressors who were male and younger were disproportionately represented among those whose cyberaggression was motivated by some type of bias. Bias-based cyberaggression was associated with higher levels of several types of moral disengagement. Possible explanations and implications of the findings are discussed.

- Abstract
Multicultural education invites teachers to support students in critiquing the foundations of a given discipline, with the aim of reimagining that discipline and the purposes it serves. In this paper, we present a series of cases in which high school physics teachers who are enrolled in a summer professional development course expressed vexation as they tried to integrate equity with the physics concept of energy and in which one teacher made significant progress in this integration. These cases serve to illustrate what teacher learning about multicultural education might look like in physics and what resources may support this learning. These cases also point us to some of the ways in which physics as a discipline and schooling as a system make it difficult for teachers to critically examine the canon.

- Abstract
[This paper is part of the Focused Collection on Qualitative Methods in PER: A Critical Examination.] Identifying student ideas about particular physics topics is one of the earliest and longest-standing foci of physics education research. This paper presents a method for identifying common conceptual resources for understanding physics, using large numbers of written student responses to conceptual questions. We walk researchers step by step through how we have done this ourselves, from collecting data, to identifying candidate resources, to turning our lists of candidate resources into a coding scheme that can then be applied to datasets of >200 responses. The outcome of these methods are lists of common conceptual resources for understanding particular topics in physics, such as forces, energy, circuits, and heat and temperature.

Quantum Physics - Abstract
The recently introduced coupled cluster (CC) downfolding techniques for reducing the dimensionality of quantum many-body problems recast the CC formalism in the form of the renormalization procedure allowing, for the construction of effective (or downfolded) Hamiltonians in small-dimensionality sub-space, usually identified with the so-called active space, of the entire Hilbert space. The resulting downfolded Hamiltonians integrate out the external (out-of-active-space) Fermionic degrees of freedom from the internal (in-the-active-space) parameters of the wave function, which can be determined as components of the eigenvectors of the downfolded Hamiltonians in the active space. This paper will discuss the extension of non-Hermitian (associated with standard CC formulations) and Hermitian (associated with the unitary CC approaches) downfolding formulations to composite quantum systems. The non-Hermitian formulation can provide a platform for developing local CC approaches, while the Hermitian one can serve as an ideal foundation for developing various quantum computing applications based on the limited quantum resources. We also discuss the algorithm for extracting the semi-analytical form of the inter-electron interactions in the active spaces.

Quantum Physics - Abstract
Downfolding coupled cluster (CC) techniques have recently been introduced into quantum chemistry as a tool for the dimensionality reduction of the many-body quantum problem. As opposed to earlier formulations in physics and chemistry based on the concept of effective Hamiltonians, the appearance of the downfolded Hamiltonians is a natural consequence of the single-reference exponential parametrization of the wave function. In this paper, we discuss the impact of higher-order terms originating in double commutators. In analogy to previous studies, we consider the case when only one- and two-body interactions are included in the downfolded Hamiltonians. We demonstrate the efficiency of the many-body expansions involving single and double commutators for the unitary extension of the downfolded Hamiltonians on the example of the beryllium atom, and bond-breaking processes in the Li2 and H2O molecules. For the H2O system, we also analyze energies obtained with downfolding procedures as functions of the active space size.
