Abstract: The gamma-decay of the anti-analog of the giant dipole resonance (AGDR) has been measured to the isobaric analog state excited in the p(124Sn,n) reaction at a beam energy of 600 MeV/nucleon. The energy of the transition was also calculated with state-of-the-art self-consistent random-phase approximation (RPA) and turned out to be very sensitive to the neutron-skin thickness (\DeltaR_(pn)). By comparing the theoretical results with the measured one, the \DeltaR_(pn) value for 124Sn was deduced to be 0.175 \pm 0.048 fm, which agrees well with the previous results. The energy of the AGDR measured previously for ^(208)Pb was also used to determine the \DeltaR_(pn) for ^(208)Pb. In this way a very precise \DeltaR_(pn) = 0.181 \pm 0.031 neutron-skin thickness has been obtained for 208Pb. The present method offers new possibilities for measuring the neutron-skin thicknesses of very exotic isotopes., 5 pages, 3 figures

Abstract: The heavy-ion reaction 22Ne+208Pb at 128 MeV beam energy has been studied using the PRISMA-CLARA experimental setup at Legnaro National Laboratories. Elastic, inelastic, and one-nucleon transfer differential cross sections are measured and global agreement is obtained with semiclassical and distorted-wave Born approximation (DWBA) calculations. In particular, the angular distribution of the 2+ state of 22Ne is analyzed by DWBA and a similar calculation is performed for the unstable 24Ne nucleus, using existing data from the reaction 24Ne+208Pb at 182 MeV (measured at SPIRAL with the VAMOS-EXOGAM setup). In both cases the DWBA model gives a good reproduction of the experiment, pointing to a strong reduction of the β2(C) charge deformation parameter in 24Ne. This follows the trend predicted for the evolution of the quadrupole deformation along the Ne isotopic chain.

Abstract: In heavy ion nuclear reactions the process leading to complete fusion is expected to produce pre-equilibrium γ-ray emission, if particular conditions are met. Indeed, when there is an N/Z asymmetry between projectile and target, charge equilibration takes place with a collective dipole oscillation, called Dynamical Dipole (DD), associated to a γ-ray emission. The existing experimental data concerning this pre-equilibrium γ-ray emission are still rather scarce and manly concentrated in the A≊132 mass region. The very preliminary results concerning the measurement of the DD γ-ray emission in the fusion reaction 16O (Elab=192 MeV) + 116Sn at 12 MeV/u will be presented and compared with the γ yield measured for the same reaction at 8.1 and 15.6 MeV/u. The present experiment aims at the measurement of the total emission yield of the DD at 12 MeV/u where the predicted theoretical yield does not completely reproduce the experimental data. The experiment has been performed at the INFN Legnaro Laboratories using the GARFIELD-HECTOR array.

Abstract: In nuclear physics basic research and, particularly, in gamma spectroscopy, the use of an imaging detector can be extremely useful to reduce the Doppler Broadening effect in experiments where the gamma-ray source moves with high/relativistic velocity. In this work, we propose to use a recently developed gamma camera, based on CsI:Tl scintillator coupled to an array of Silicon Drift Detectors, for such type of experiments. The camera, suitably modified to cope with high-energy detection, has shown, in preliminary measurements with a 1cm thick scintillator, a spatial resolution of 2mm with a collimated source of 137Cs (662keV).

Abstract: WOS: 000300864200005, The Advanced GAmma Tracking Array (AGATA) is a European project to develop and operate the next generation gamma-ray spectrometer. AGATA is based on the technique of gamma-ray energy tracking in electrically segmented high-purity germanium crystals. This technique requires the accurate determination of the energy, time and position of every interaction as a gamma ray deposits its energy within the detector volume. Reconstruction of the full interaction path results in a detector with very high efficiency and excellent spectral response. The realisation of gamma-ray tracking and AGATA is a result of many technical advances. These include the development of encapsulated highly segmented germanium detectors assembled in a triple cluster detector cryostat, an electronics system with fast digital sampling and a data acquisition system to process the data at a high rate. The full characterisation of the crystals was measured and compared with detector-response simulations. This enabled pulse-shape analysis algorithms, to extract energy, time and position, to be employed. In addition, tracking algorithms for event reconstruction were developed. The first phase of AGATA is now complete and operational in its first physics campaign. In the future AGATA will be moved between laboratories in Europe and operated in a series of campaigns to take advantage of the different beams and facilities available to maximise its science output. Abstract: Radium-226 is a naturally occurring radionuclide found in reclaimed clay and sand tailing from phosphate mining. Field studies were conducted to investigate the effects of sand/clay ratio (SCR), Ca supplement and organic amendments on the {sup 226}Ra concentration in turnip, banana pepper, cabbage, yellow squash, mustard, and alfalfa. For vegetables, treatment effects included SCR (2:1, 4:1, 6:1, and 8:1), phosphogypsum (PG) 0,22, and 134 Mg ha{sup {minus}1}, and peat 0,100, and 200 Mg ha{sup {minus}1}. For alfalfa grown in a 1:1 SCR mixture, treatments included organic amendments (control, peat, sewage slude, sawdust, composted sewage sludge, composted garbage and humate) applied at 44.8 Mg ha{sup {minus}1} (2.2 Mg ha{sup {minus}1} for humate). Abstract: Diffusion experiments on nitrogen redistribution in welded (nitridized carbon)/(stainless) steels have been carried out between 500 and 1100°C. Experimental samples had the form of sandwich-like couples. It has been stated that the nitrogen diffusion occurs in a similar way to carbon diffusion in steel weldments. Metallographic investigations have revealed that the nitrogen zone is formed close to the weld interface in stainless steel. Its growth depends on time and temperature and is characterized by the activation energy Q = 32.3 kJ mol−1. The measured diffusion coefficients in stainless steel satisfy the Arrhenius equation and, completed by literature data, make it possible to calculate the diffusion interaction coefficients βN i, where i = Cr and Ni. Abstract: Experiments were conducted with four kinds of flowering plants to compare one-time vs. continuous application of paclobutrazol in subirrigation water. When a crop reached the stage at which it required growth regulator treatment, four concentrations of paclobutrazol were applied via subirrigation either one-time or continuously until the crop was terminated. Based upon regression equations, concentrations resulting in 30% size reduction for one-time applications of paclobutrazol were 0.01 mg·L-1 for Begonia ×semperflorens-cultorum `Cocktail Gin', 0.09 mg·L-1 for Impatiens wallerana Hook. `Super Elfin White', 0.2 mg·L-1 for Dendranthema ×grandiflorum (Ramat.) Kitamura `Tara', and 2.4 mg·L-1 for Petunia ×hybrida Vilm.-Andr. `Plum Crazy'. Respective optimal values for continuous application were 0.005, 0.02, 0.06, and 0.4 mg·L-1. Increasing the concentration for continuous application had a greater effect on paclobutrazol efficacy than did increasing the concentration for a single application. In a trial with impatiens `Super Elfin Salmon Blush', the paclobutrazol concentration was reduced 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% (single application) for each successive subirrigation event following an initial application of 0.1 mg·L-1 of paclobutrazol. The 50%, 75%, and 100% reduction treatments provided similar levels of size control. Dilution was more important when the reduction rate was less than 50%. Abstract: The population and gamma decay of neutron rich nuclei around 48Ca has been measured at Legnaro National Laboratory with the PRISMA-CLARA setup, using deep-inelastic collisions (DIC) on 64Ni, at an energy approximately twice the Coulomb barrier. The reaction properties of the main products are investigated, focusing on total cross sections and angular distributions both integrated in energy and associated to the population of specific excited states. Gamma spectroscopy studies are also performed, giving evidence, for the first time in transfer reactions with heavy ions, of a large spin alignment (~70%), perpendicular to the reaction plane. This makes possible the use of angular distributions and polarization measurements to firmly establish the spin and parity of excited states populated in nucleon transfer channels, as in the case of 49Ca, where candidates for particle-core coupling are investigated. Both reaction and gamma spectroscopy studies demonstrate the relevance of DIC with heavy ions for a detailed investigation of moderately neutron rich systems.

Abstract: The deep inelastic reaction (DIC) 48Ca+64Ni, at an energy approximately 2.5 times above the Coulomb barrier, was studied using the CLARA‐PRISMA setup at the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. Total cross sections and angular distributions, both energy integrated and associated to the population of selected excited states, are measured for the most intense reaction channels. The γ‐decay of the most intense reaction products is also studied. The use of angular distributions and polarization measurements of γ transitions allows to firmly establish spin and parity of excited states. Both reaction and gamma spectroscopy studies demonstrate the relevance of DIC with heavy ions for the investigation of moderately neutron rich systems.

Abstract: It is known that carbon thermodynamic activity and successively its chemical potential in Fe-C-alloying element system is strongly influenced by the alloying element. Therefore, a different alloying of the parts of a steel weldment induces carbon redistribution during diffusion annealing often showing uphill diffusion of carbon. For the first time, this effect was observed by Darken. The aim of the present work is to study carbon redistribution in the weldment of ferritic steels Fe-0.39 wt.%C-0.13wt.%Ni and Fe-1.00wt.%C-0.01wt.%Ni. For this aim, laboratory-prepared steel weldments have been annealed at 973 K (i.e. in ferritic-carbidic region) for various times up to 1,600 h. The carbon concentration in the surroundings of the weld interface of the steels has been measured using a wavelength-dispersive X-ray microanalysis.

Abstract: Transfer reactions at two near-barrier energies for the systems32S +100,101Ru have been studied. Differential cross sections have been extracted for a large variety of channels, with a set-up yielding good mass, nuclear charge and energy resolutions. A steeper decrease of the measured angular distributions at backward angles with respect to the prediction of a semiclassical theory is interpreted as a loss of transfer flux feeding more complex channels and/or fusion. Coupled channels calculations, which use the transfer form factors derived from the experiment, reproduce the fusion cross sections at sub-barrier energies. Multi-nucleon transfer seems to play an essential role for the fusion process, as evidenced by the found strong correlations. A systematic comparison is made with the systems33S +90,91,92Zr, which have been the object of a previous experimental study with the same set-up.

Abstract: The resistance changes in the thin film Au Pd and Al Au systems are investigated at a temperature of 350°C ( Au Pd ) and in the range 100–200°C ( Al Au ). Except for the original Au Pd and Al Au data, the experimental Au Pd values published in the paper by Hall et al. are evaluated. The correct mathematical solutions for lateral diffusion from grain boundaries into grains and for interdiffusion in two-film samples are used in interpreting the experimental data. The evaluated values of the diffusion coefficient D satisfy the Arrhenius relationships and yield reliable information on the activation enthalpies H of the interdiffusion processes. However, the values of the frequency factors D 0 are less reliable, owing to their direct dependence on the grain size ( Au Pd ) or on the film thicknesses ( Al Au ).

Abstract: The quasi-elastic scattering and the one-nucleon transfer channels of 32 S + 64 Ni have been studied using the LNL Recoil Mass Spectrometer. The excitation function at θ c.m. = 170° from E lab = 68.3 to 92.4 MeV and an angular distribution at E lab = 81.3 MeV from θ c.m. = 120° to 170° have been measured. The results have been analyzed in the framework of the complex WKB approximation and in the semiclassical approximation based on Coulomb trajectories.

Abstract: The position sensitivity in a 3”×3” LaBr 3 :Ce crystal has been simulated using collimated beams of medium and high energy γ-rays. The simulations have been done using the GEANT4 libraries which allow to follow both the gamma ray interaction in the detector and the scintillation light up to the photocathode. In the simulations the crystal has been coupled to an ideal PSPMT and/or a shielded PMT. The results indicate that in the 3” × 3” crystal with darkened surfaces it should be possible to localize the first interaction point of a 662 keV gamma ray within 1 cm, in the case of diffusive surfaces the position sensitivity deteriorates but it is not destroyed. As expected, the position sensitivity improves as the γ-ray energy increases. The measurements generally confirm the results given by simulations.

Abstract: Gamma ray tracking arrays like AGATA and GRETA are composed of position sensitive segmented HPGe detectors. In fact the gamma interaction localization with a precision of at least 5 mm is an important step to efficiently perform the tracking. This position information is obtained with the combined use of detector electrode segmentation and Pulse Shape Analysis (PSA). In this work a generalized version of the Recursive Subtraction (RS) algorithm for 3D localization of the interactions is presented (RS_3D). Abstract: The feasibility of measuring g -factors using the TDPAD method applied to high-energy, heavy fragmentation products is explored. The 2623keV $\ensuremath I^{\pi}=12^+$ isomer in 192Pb with $ \tau$ = 1.57 μs has been produced using the fragmentation of a 1A GeV 238U beam. The results presented demonstrate for the first time that such heavy nuclei produced in a fragmentation reaction with a relativistic beam are sufficiently well spin-aligned. Moreover, the rather large value of the alignment, 28(10)% of the maximum possible, is preserved during the separation process allowing the determination of magnetic moments. The measured values of the lifetime, $ \tau$ = 1.54(9) μs, and the g -factor, g = - 0.175(20) , agree with the results of previous investigations using fusion-evaporation reactions.

Abstract: The influence of carbon on iron grain boundary (GB) diffusion in polycrystalline austenitic alloys FeNiCr x C with x varying from 0.002 to 0.175 wt.% was studied. The measurements were carried out in the temperature range 853–1203 K using the sectioning method. It appeared that the increasing content of carbon caused a decrease in GB diffusivity, but the Arrhenius parameters Q b and P 0 increased to saturation for carbon concentration, C c ⩾ 0.062 wt.% C. From comparison with previous data concerning the dependence of GB characteristics on chromium content, it follows that the Arrhenius parameters depend primarily on the presence of a carbide phase in the GBs rather than on individual concentrations of carbon and chromium. The semi-empirical relation between the parameters Q b , P 0 and the total Cr and C concentration ( L = log [Cr] 23 [C] 6 ) has been proposed. This enables the estimation of Arrhenius parameters for Fe GB diffusion in FeNiCrC quaternary alloys: Q b [kJ mol −1 ] = 415 + 5.29 L for L ⩽ −37.5 or 217 for L > −37.5; log P 0 m 3 s −1 ] = −1.3+0.23 L for L ⩽ −37.5 or −10.0 for L > −37.5.

Abstract: Superdeformed (SD) bands in152Dy,151Dy and151Tb have been populated via the 5n, 6n and 5np evaporation channels, respectively, with the33S+124Sn reaction at 160 and 170 MeV bombarding energies. Population intensities are in good agreement with existing data for SD bands in151, 152Dy and SD yrast band in151Tb. The excited “twin” SD band in151Tb with the sameγ-transitions as the band in152Dy is populated about 5 times more strongly than by the 6n evaporation channel. This might be explained in terms of competition between proton andγ emission out of an intermediate, excited superdeformed configuration of152Dy.

Abstract: Angular distributions and {ital Q}-value spectra for transfer reactions in the systems {sup 36}S+{sup 144,154}Sm have been measured at two energies close to the Coulomb barrier. Mass and charge identification was achieved using a time-of-flight system followed by an ionization chamber. Transfer probabilities were analyzed considering direct and sequential barrier penetration mechanisms. The dependence of the cross sections on the static quadrupole deformation of the targets was compared with the predictions of a semiclassical approach. The relative yields of the different channels were analyzed in the light of a random-walk approach based on the reaction {ital Q} values.

Abstract: This work aims to investigate the improvement the HPGe detector time resolution using signal shape analysis techniques. For this purpose a measurement using a coaxial HPGe detector, a LaBr3 scintillator and 60Co gamma source was taken. The RS Pulse Shape Analysis algorithm was then applied to the experimental signals for extracting time information and the results obtained were compared with those obtained using a standard CFD. The results show a 50% improvement in time resolution (4 ns FWHM) when the RS algorithm is used instead of a standard CFD (8 ns FWHM) algorithm.

Specific Geant4 simulations have been performed and used to determine the association between the detector signal shape and the gamma interaction position.

Abstract: The {gamma} decay associated with the warm rotation of the superdeformed nuclei {sup 151}Tb and {sup 196}Pb has been measured with the Euroball IV array. Several experimental quantities are presented, putting strong constraints on the decay dynamics in the superdeformed well. The data are successfully reproduced using a Monte Carlo simulation of the {gamma} decay based on microscopically calculated energy levels, E2 decay probabilities, collective mass parameters, and potential energy barriers between the wells associated with normal and super deformation. This allows one to test the basic ingredients of the physical process, such as the strength of the two-body residual interaction and the potential barriers as a function of spin and excitation energy. We also show that the data probe the E1 strength function, indicating an enhancement around 1-2 MeV {gamma} rays, which might be related to octupole vibrations.

Abstract: The $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ decay from Coulomb excitation of $^{68}\mathrm{Ni}$ at $600\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}/\mathrm{\text{nucleon}}$ on a Au target was measured using the RISING setup at the fragment separator of GSI. The $^{68}\mathrm{Ni}$ beam was produced by a fragmentation reaction of $^{86}\mathrm{Kr}$ at $900\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}/\mathrm{\text{nucleon}}$ on a $^{9}\mathrm{Be}$ target and selected by the fragment separator. The $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ rays produced at the Au target were measured with HPGe detectors at forward angles and with ${\mathrm{BaF}}_{2}$ scintillators at backward angles. The measured spectra show a peak centered at approximately 11 MeV, whose intensity can be explained in terms of an enhanced strength of the dipole response function (pygmy resonance). Such pygmy structure has been predicted in this unstable neutron-rich nucleus by theory.

Abstract: The reaction 48Ca+64Ni has been studied in the deep inelastic regime at approximately 6 MeV/A, by the CLARA‐PRISMA setup. Angular distributions of the reaction cross sections have been obtained for the most intense reaction products, taking into account the response function of the magnetic spectrometer. The response of PRISMA has been calculated making use of a MonteCarlo simulation of the transport of the ions in the spectrometer, starting from known events distributions. For the one‐nucleon transfer channels, the experimental data are in good agreement with predictions from a semiclassical multi‐nucleon transfer model.

Abstract: In this work, carbon redistribution between an austenitic cladding and a ferritic-carbidic steel for pressure vessels of the Voronez water energy nuclear reactor is studied. The carbon concentration in the surroundings of the weld interface was determined by electron beam microanalysis. The method of line segment analysis, with the help of FeC standards, used in this work enabled the correct determination of the total carbon content and its dependence on the distance from the weld interface. The diffusion study was carried out in the temperature interval from 500 to 750°C, on experimental weldments prepared by resistance welding and on a submerged-arc strip weldment used in technical practice. The carbon diffusion in the weldments was described by a diffusion model assuming two separate carbon diffusion coefficients D − and D + of the left- and right-hand part of the weldement respectively. While D − = 2.7 × 10 −5 exp(−164/ RT )m 2 s −1 agrees well with the carbon diffusion coefficientin austenite, D + = 1.2 exp(−209/ RT ) m 2 s −1 corresponds to the effective carbon diffusion coefficient in the ferrite-carbide mixture. It has been shown that the results obtained on the experimental weldments can be applied to the technical weldments and enable the prediction of carbon redistribution during post-weld heat treatment and application.

Abstract: Contamination of recirculated subirrigation water with growth retardants poses a potential problem for growers. Eight concentrations of ancymidol or paclobutrazol ranging from 0 to 100 μg·L-1 (0 to 1000 μg·L-1 for petunia) were supplied constantly in subirrigation water to potted plants to identify critical levels at which plant growth is affected. Concentrations of ancymidol resulting in 20% reduction in plant size relative to untreated controls were 3, 10, 98, 80, and 58 μg·L-1 for Begonia ×semperflorens-cultorum Hort. `Gin', chrysanthemum (Dendranthema ×grandiflora Kitam.) `Nob Hill', Impatiens walleriana Hook f. `Super Elfin Coral', Petunia ×hybrida Hort. Abstract: The 16 channels module has been developed to fully process signals coming from fast scintillator materials, e.g. Barium Fluoride, where the light emission exhibits a fast and slow component. The circuit of each channel provides the fast-slow discrimination, the total energy measurement and a constant fraction discriminator. Two analog Gaussian shaped outputs are produced for the measurement of the fast and slow component. The time information is given by a Constant Fraction Discriminator specifically optimized to work with the BaF 2 signal rise-time. Moreover, an OR and Multiplicity of all CFD outputs are present on the front panel of the module. The “Fast” and “Slow” analog outputs are multiplexed on two lemo connectors when the corresponding channel is selected. All the programmable parameters of the module are stored in a non volatile memory and are reloaded at the power-on. By means of simple Terminal Emulator connected to the module through a RS485 serial interface, up to 16 modules can be easily programmed. Each module is identified by 4 bits address, settable on the front panel.

Abstract: A simple Pulse Shape Analysis (PSA) algorithm is applied to signals acquired during the in-beam tests of two different highly segmented HPGe detectors. The issue of the algorithm, named Recursive Subtraction (RS), consists in the determination of the number of interactions in a detector segment and their radial localization. Following a comparison of the results obtained applying RS to the acquired signals with those of specific GEANT simulations, excellent agreement is found between the experimental number of interactions distribution and the calculated one. Some deviations between the experimental radial distribution and the calculated one are instead present. Evidence is provided that this cannot be adduced to the algorithm but most probably to a non perfect reproduction of the detector position response in the calculated signals used.

Abstract: The γ decay associated with the warm rotation of the superdeformed nuclei 151 Tb and 196 Pb has been measured with the EUROBALL IV array. Several independent quantities provide a stringent test of the population and decay dynamics in the superdeformed well. A Monte Carlo simulation of the y decay based on microscopic calculations gives remarkable agreement with the data only assuming a large enhancement of the B(El) strength for 1-2 MeV y rays, which may be related to the evidence for octupole vibrations in both mass regions.

Abstract: A detailed study of known and new SD bands in Tb isotopes has been performed with the use of the EUROBALL IV gamma-ray array. The high-statistics data set has allowed for the extension of known SD bands at low and high spins by new gamma-ray transitions. These transitions, as it turns out, correspond to the rotational frequencies where the principal superdeformed gaps (Z=66,N=86) close giving rise to up- or down-bending mechanisms. This enables to attribute the underlying theoretical configurations with much higher confidence as compared to the previous identifications. Five new SD bands have been discovered, three of them assigned to the Tb-152 and the two others to the Tb-151 nuclei. Nuclear mean-field calculations have been used to interpret the structure of known SD bands as well as of the new ones in terms of nucleonic configurations.

Abstract: The {gamma}-decay of the excited nucleus provides experimental information on the nuclear structure properties at extreme conditions of temperature, angular momentum and isospin. First, the order-to-chaos transition is studied in the warm rotating {sup 163}Er nucleus, in terms of vanishing of selection rules on the K quantum number. Second, the properties of the excited superdeformed bands in {sup 151}Tb and {sup 196}Pb nuclei are investigated in connection with their decay-out into the low deformation states. Finally, the population of highly excited low-spin states in moderately neutron-rich systems is discussed in connection with deep-inelastic reactions.

Abstract: The paper presents a mixed analog-digital configurable instrument for processing signals from different type of scintillation detectors. We discuss design, realization and firmware structure of the system. We mainly present preliminary result obtained with the use LaBr3 detectors. The main feature of the architecture is the adaptability to a wide range of different operative conditions by changing configuration both of the digital and of the analog section. Using modular hardware and firmware architecture and digital configurable devices (a digital signal processor -DSP and a field programmable gate array - FPGA) it's possible to achieve optimum performance in an extremely wide range of application.

Abstract: Expérience GANIL; International audience; Multi-nucleon transfer reactions are useful tools to populate exotic nuclei, particularly the neutron-rich ones. In this view, two different experiments have been performed employing a stable (22Ne) and a radioactive (24Ne) beam, both impinging on a 208Pb target. The first reaction has been studied using the CLARA-PRISMA-DANTE set-up at Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro (Legnaro-Italy), while the second reaction was performed at Ganil (Caen-France) employing a SPIRAL radioactive beam of 24Ne. In this case recoils and coincident gamma rays were detected with the VAMOS-EXOGAM set-up.The data show that MNT reactions can selectively populate states of different nature and, therefore, are a good tool to study nuclear structure further away from stability.

Abstract: High-spin states in $^{35}\mathrm{Ar}$ and $^{35}\mathrm{Cl}$ have been populated in the $^{24}\mathrm{Mg}$($^{16}\mathrm{O}$, $\ensuremath{\alpha}n$) and $^{24}\mathrm{Mg}$($^{16}\mathrm{O}$, $\ensuremath{\alpha}p$) reactions, respectively, at a beam energy of 70 MeV. The comparison between the level schemes of these mirror nuclei shows a striking asymmetry in the population yield of high-spin analog states of positive parity, which indicates different intensities of $E1$ transitions connecting positive- and negative-parity structures in both nuclei. Large energy differences are observed between analog states of negative parity with configurations of dominant pure single-particle character. This results from the comparison with large-scale shell-model calculations in the ${s}_{1/2}{d}_{3/2}{f}_{7/2}{p}_{3/2}$ valence space. It is shown that important contributions to the energy differences arise from the multipole Coulomb and the relativistic electromagnetic spin-orbit interactions.

Abstract: By comparing the excitation energies of analogue states in isobaric multiplets, several nuclear structure properties can be studied as a function of the angular momentum up to high spin states. In particular, the mirror nuclei 35Ar and 35Cl show large differences between the excitation energies of analogue negative‐parity states at high spin, confirming the important contribution of the relativistic electromagnetic spin‐orbit interaction to the Coulomb energy. The single‐particle character of the configuration of these states is reproduced with very good accuracy by shell model calculations in the sd and pf shells valence space. In addition, evidence of isospin mixing is deduced from the El transitions linking positive and negative parity states.

Abstract: We measured the performance of a 2"×2" tapered cylindrical SrI2:Eu, a 2" × 3" cylindrical CeBr3, a 2" × 0.3" cylindrical GYGAG:Ce. The gamma-ray energy resolution was measured up to 9 MeV. A scan along three axes of each scintillator was performed using a collimated source of 137Cs. The signals of the detectors were also digitized and compared. We tested two 1" × 1" cylindrical CLYC crystals. One was enriched with 6Li at 95% while the other was enriched with 99% of 7Li. The response of the two detectors to gamma rays, thermal and fast neutrons was measured. The PSD performances have been tested with a different types of PMTs.

Abstract: Scintillation light is often detected by photo-multiplier tube (PMT) technology. PMTs are however intrinsically non linear devices, especially when operated with high light yield scintillators and high input photon flux. Many physical effects (e.g. inter-dynode field variation, photocathode resistivity, etc.) can spoil the ideal PMT behavior in terms of gain, ending up in what are addressed as the under-linearity and over-linearity effects.Established techniques implemented in the PMT base (e.g. increasing bleeding current, active voltage divider, etc.) can mitigate these effects, but given the unavoidable spread in manufacturing and materials, it turns out that, with respect to linearity at the percent level, every PMT sample is a story of its own.The residual non linearity is usually accounted for with polynomial correction of the spectrum energy scale, starting from the position of a few known energy peaks of calibration sources, but uncertainly remains in between of calibration peaks. We propose to retrieve the calibration information from the entire energy spectrum and not only the position of full energy peaks (FEP), by means of an automatic procedure that also takes into account the quality (signal/noise ratio) of the information about the non-linearity extracted from the various regions of the spectrum.
