Abstract

Background: Previous studies have suggested the involvement of an activated inflammatory process in major depressive disorder (MDD), as altered expression of inflammatory cytokines is observed in depression. This alteration can be the cause or a consequence of MDD. However, acknowledging inflammatory cytokines as prospective biomarkers would aid in diagnosing or guiding better therapeutic options. Therefore, we designed this study to assess the macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) in depression. Method: We collected blood samples from 115 MDD patients and 113 healthy controls (HCs) matched by age and sex. MDD patients were diagnosed by a qualified psychiatrist based on the symptoms mentioned in the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders (DSM-5). We applied the Hamilton depression (Ham-D) rating scale to assess the severity of depression. We assessed serum levels of MIF using ELISA kit (Boster Bio, USA). Result: We detected increased serum MIF levels in MDD patients compared to HCs (6.15 ± 0.23 ng/mL vs 3.95 ± 0.21 ng/mL, P < 0.001). Moreover, this increase is more among female patients than female controls. Also, we noticed a positive correlation between altered MIF levels and the Ham-D scores (r = 0.233; P = 0.012), where we found that patients who scored higher on the Ham-D scale had higher MIF levels in serum. Moreover, the area under the curve (AUC) of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve represented the good diagnostic performance of altered serum MIF. Conclusion: Our study findings indicate the association of pro-inflammatory cytokine MIF in the pathophysiology of depression as we identified elevated serum MIF levels in depressive patients compared to HCs. However, more researches are required to confirm whether this alteration of cytokine is the causative factor or a consequence of depression. Abstract

Superconducting radio frequency (SRF) cavities, which are critical components in many particle accelerators, need to be operated in the Meissner state to avoid strong dissipation from magnetic vortices. For a defect-free superconductor, the maximum attainable magnetic field for operation is set by the superheating field, $B_{\mathrm{sh}}$, which directly depends on the surface current. In heterostructures composed of different superconductors, the current in each layer depends not only on the properties of the individual material, but also on the electromagnetic response of the adjacent layers through boundary conditions at the interfaces. Three prototypical bilayers [$\mathrm{Nb_{1-x}Ti_xN}$(50 nm)/Nb, $\mathrm{Nb_{1-x}Ti_xN}$(80 nm)/Nb, and $\mathrm{Nb_{1-x}Ti_xN}$(160 nm)/Nb] are investigated here by depth-resolved measurements of their Meissner screening profiles using low-energy muon spin rotation (LE-$\mu$SR). From fits to a model based on London theory (with appropriate boundary and continuity conditions), a magnetic penetration depth for the thin $\mathrm{Nb_{1-x}Ti_xN}$ layers of $\lambda_\mathrm{Nb_{1-x}Ti_xN} =$ 182.5(31) nm is found, in good agreement with literature values for the bulk alloy. In contrast, a simple London model without appropriate boundary conditions overestimates $\lambda_\mathrm{Nb_{1-x}Ti_xN}$ by more than a factor of two, suggesting that it is inappropriate for quantifying $\lambda_\mathrm{Nb_{1-x}Ti_xN}$ here. Using the measured $\lambda_\mathrm{Nb_{1-x}Ti_xN}$, the maximum vortex-free field, $B_{\mathrm{max}}$, of the superconductor-superconductor (SS) bilayer structure was estimated to be 610(40) mT. The strong suppression of the surface current in the $\mathrm{Nb_{1-x}Ti_xN}$ layer suggests an optimal thickness of $\sim 1.4 \lambda_{\mathrm{Nb_{1-x}Ti_xN}} =$ 261(14) nm., Comment: 13 pages and 8 figures

The study was conducted in laboratory conditions to evaluate the effects of salinity on growth, survival, and blood chemistry of butter catfish, Ompok bimaculatus fingerlings. The fry, initially sized as 7.01 cm length and 1.69 g weight, were assigned in four different salinity treatments i.e., 0 ppt (TC), 2 ppt (T1), 4 ppt (T2) and 8 ppt (T3) with three replications, with 21 fry in each replication as well. Rural Development is participation of people in a mutual learning experience involving themselves, their local resources, external change agents and outside resources for their better living. This participation could be organized only through creating and strengthening rural institutions, because through rural institutions the scattered and uneducated rural people could be organized into a cohesive, disciplined and trained productive force. They could be mobilised and motivated for innovation and for increasing their productivity. Thus it is essentially true that \successful rural development in Bangladesh critically hinges on appropriate and effective rural institution\". Bangladesh is an agricultural country. Ninety percent of her population live in rural areas and are dependent on agriculture. Its agriculture has been characterised as one of the most outmoded cultivation low productivity and small holdings. The farmers are mostly illiterate passive and victims of exploitation by the influential classes in the society. But there was no effective formal organization which could organise them for the dissemination of knowledge and skill to increase their productivity. The concept of Thana Training and Development Centre (TTDC) was evolved out of this pragmatic necessity. TTDC was an innovation of Camilla Model of Rural Development. It is a model of rural administration."
