Chromitite layers in mafic-ultramafic layered intrusions represent a special case of cumulate rock where chromite is the sole liquidus (cumulus) mineral. Different mechanisms for the formation of chromitite layers have been postulated. In order to provide geological and petrological constraints for these models, chromitites and hosting mafic and ultramafic rocks from the Bacuri, Niquelândia and Ipueira-Medrado layered complexes in Brazil were investigated. The Bacuri Complex (2·2 Ga) is a large layered intrusion of the Amazon Craton. Chromitite layers of the Bacuri mafic-ultramafic complex are restricted to a 30–120 m-thick sequence of ultramafic cumulates overlying mafic cumulates. Most of the chromite is concentrated in a several metres-thick chromitite layer (the main chromitite) located at the base of the ultramafic cumulates. Cryptic variation of olivine with stratigraphic height (from Fo89 at the base to Fo76 at the top) is consistent with extensive fractionation of the ultramafic sequence. The stratigraphic position of the main chromitite supports a model for its origin associated with a major new influx of primitive parental magma. This paper is a contribution to the ductile fracture prediction by the proposal of a new uncoupled ductile fracture criterion. In the new criterion, two typical void deformation models were carefully considered, with the plastic strain increment regarded as a key impetus of the damage evolution and its accumulation. The new ductile fracture criterion was constructed with three model parameters with different physical meanings. A 3D ductile fracture surface model was obtained by transforming the proposed criterion from stress space to the space of stress triaxiality, Lode parameter, and fracture strain, and a parametric study was carried out to better understand their effects. To validate the performance of the new criterion, it was used to construct the 3D fracture surfaces of 5083-O aluminum alloy, TRIP690, and Docol 600DL (a dual-phase steel). Comparisons of the results with experimental observations indicate that the proposed criterion provides good prediction capability over a large range of stress states for various materials, with good flexibility and considerable accuracy.

Information on public attitudes towards the use of transgenic trees in forest plantations is important in the decision-making process and policy implementation for safe tree development, particularly at the EU level. In Europe, the use of transgenic forest trees is very limited and therefore such information is completely lacking. To address this issue within the FP0905 European COST Action on the Biosafety of Transgenic Forest Trees a pioneer cross-country pilot survey on public attitudes towards the use of transgenic forest trees was conducted using young population as a focus group. This was decided mainly because this focus group represents the future consumers, policy makers or developers. Specifically, the survey aimed to: i) assess the level of young people’s knowledge about transgenic forest trees, ii) identify issues of concern to them regarding the cultivation of transgenic forest trees and iii) explore whether they approve or disapprove of the use of transgenic forest trees in plantations. Purposive sampling was performed and university students of different disciplines were included in the research as sampling subjects. In total, 1868 completed questionnaires from 15 European and non-European countries were analyzed. The young educated people that took part in the survey appeared to approve of the use of transgenic forest trees in plantations and would be willing to buy forest transgenic products. The potential loss of biodiversity due to a risk of gene flow between transgenic and wild trees was seen as the safety issue of most concern when considering the commercial release of transgenic forest trees. However, a serious perceived lack of knowledge about potential benefits and risks of the cultivation of transgenic forest trees was recorded in most of the countries. K-means clustering was implemented on respondents’ positive responses to identify potential country patterns. No differences in patterns of public attitude towards the acceptance of the commercial growing of transgenic forest trees were observed between European and non-European countries. Extended research on public attitude issues towards the use of transgenic forest trees is strongly recommended as a basis for policy implementation on safe tree development.

Vanadium-aluminophosphate, type eleven (VAPO-11), synthesized by the hydrothermal method, was used as catalyst for oxidation of toluene, in a differential reactor, at temperature 430-470°C, varying the space time (W/F). The reaction products were analyzed in a gas chromatograph coupled on line to the reactor. The results obtained indicate that VAPO-11 is an active catalyst for the oxidation of toluene to benzene and benzaldehyde. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Prenant pour cadre la Théorie des Opérations Énonciatives proposée par Antoine Culioli, notre communication a pour objet l’étude des emplois du présent simple en portugais et en français. Afin d’aboutir à des conclusions fiables sur les similarités et les divergences quant aux conditions d’apparition et au mode de fonctionnement du présent dans les deux langues, nous examinerons un corpus écrit bilingue authentique. Après avoir déterminé les raisons pour lesquelles un présent simple en français peut, ou non, se traduire par un présent en portugais, nous tâcherons de montrer que le présent s’emploie beaucoup moins en portugais qu’en français pour marquer une identification entre le moment du procès (T2) et le moment de l’énonciation (T0). Nous verrons, en effet, que cette valeur de procès en cours n’est souvent possible, en portugais, que si le présent entre en cooccurrence avec des adverbiaux temporo-aspectuels et des périphrases verbales. L’examen rapide de quelques choix de traduction en portugais de textes littéraires français montre, par ailleurs, que le présent simple français dans un récit est fréquemment traduit, en portugais, par autre chose que le présent simple, notamment par le biais de périphrases aspectuelles telles que estar a + infinitif, estar + 'gerúndio', ir a + infinitif ou ir + 'gerúndio' qui signalent le besoin de rétablir la distinction entre ouvert et fermé gommée par le système aoristique.

Abstract: The effects of ingesting a high fat diet on albino rats (R. norvegicus) chronically infected with Trypanosome cruzi “Planalto” were researched using serological and parasitological diagnostic tests, body mass index (BMI) quantification, detection of C-Protein Reactive (CPR), evaluation of the plasmatic lipid levels (total cholesterol, high density lipoproteins HDL and triglycerides) and the presence of lipidic deposits in the aorta artery. During the course of the chagasic infection, patent parasitemias were detected between the ages of 10 and 35 days post-infection (pi) with a maximum average of 36.68 ± 2 tryps/mm³ of blood at 25 days. At 90 days pi, the absence of parasitemias and the presence of IgG anti T. cruzi antibodies were in evidence. The chagasic rats in chronic phase (A) and the healthy controls (C) submitted to a high fat diet showed: 1. Significant variations (p0.05) in the BMI, in comparison with the rat groups receiving a normal diet (B: infected and D: healthy rats); 2. A discrete CRP reaction in the serum of infected rats B; 3. A significant increase was shown in the total cholesterol levels, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides for groups A and C in comparison with control groups B and D (p0.05). The histological study of rat arteries in group A revealed important lipid deposits located in the muscular layer near the intimal and adventitial layer. These results suggest that the increase in plasmatic lipid levels stimulated by the infectious process are the main mechanisms through which T. cruzi could be influencing the initiation or the progression of atheromatous plaque. Se investigan los efectos de la ingestión de una dieta con alto contenido en grasas en ratas albinas (R. norvegicus) crónicamente infectadas con Trypanosoma cruzi “Planalto”, mediante pruebas de diagnóstico sero-parasitológicas, cuantificación del Índice de Masa Corporal (IMC), detección de la Proteína C Reactiva (PCR), evaluación de los niveles de lípidos plasmáticos (colesterol total, lipoproteínas de alta densidad - HDL y triglicéridos) y presencia de depósitos lipídicos en la arteria aorta. Durante el curso de la infección chagásica, se detectaron parasitemias patentes entre los 10 y 35 días pi, con un máximo promedio de 36,68±2 trips/mm3 de sangre a los 25 días. A los 90 días pi, se evidenció ausencia de parasitemias y presencia de anticuerpos IgG anti- T. cruzi.
