This paper examines the relationship between the number of passengers who access walking to the 42 stations of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Quito, Ecuador and urban variables. For this purpose, a Direct Ridership Model (DRM) is built, relying on Geographic Information Systems (to define the service area and calculate its urban characteristics within a pedestrian distance threshold of 600 meters) and a multiple linear regression model (to explain the number of entries per station as a function of the urban environment). The results reveal that the number of boarding maintains correlation with the density of the network, land use, shape index, sidewalk width, distance to the business center, while, population density is not significant, even though is necessary to explain the model.

Cryptosporidiosis is a disease caused by the Cryptosporidium spp parasite. As some species of Cryptosporidium have a wide host spectrum, the characterization of the pathogen at the species or genotype level is of great importance to define the sources of infection for humans and the potential for public health. This study investigated the diversity of the genus Cryptosporidium spp. in humans from all over the American continent and observed whether the method used to search for the parasite influenced the prevalence found in the Americas. This systematic review was carried out using the Pubmed, Science direct, Lilacs, Scielo, and Scopus databases with publications from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2020. For data synthesis, the PRISMA flowchart was used and for the meta-analysis we used the MetaXL program. Of the selected publications, 57, 9 and 16 belonged to the region of South, Central and North America, respectively. The prevalence found for South, Central, and North America was 7%, 7%, and 8%, respectively, when analyzing publications that used only the microscopy method. When we analyzed the publications that used immunological and molecular methods, we found prevalences of 10%, 9%, and 21% for South, Central, and North America, respectively. The C. hominis subtype IbA10G2 was the most reported in the American continent, followed by subtype IeA11G3T3 and, for C. parvum, subtype IIaA15G2RI was the most reported. In conclusion, Cryptosporidium spp. is present throughout the American continent and its prevalence is higher when immunological and/or molecular methods are used, in addition to direct microscopic examination.

Protein sequence alignment is a task of great relevance in Bioinformatics and the Hirschberg algorithm is widely used for this task. This work proposes a framework for executing sequence alignment with the Hirschberg algorithm in different cloud computing services. In experiments, our framework was used to align HIV-1 protease sequences using different instances of AWS EC2 and different configurations of AWS Lambda functions.The results show that, for this application, there is a tradeoff between the expected execution time and the cost, e.g., in most cases AWS Lambda provides the best runtime, however at a higher USD cost. In this context, it is important to have a framework that helps in deciding which approach is most appropriate.

In this paper, we developed a Spark application, named Diff Sequences Spark, which compares 540 SARS-CoV-2 sequences from South America in Amazon EC2 Cloud, generating as output the positions where the differences occur. We analyzed the performance of the proposed application on selected memory and storage optimized virtual machines (VMs) at on-demand and spot markets. The execution times and financial costs of the memory optimized VMs outperformed the storage optimized ones. Regarding the markets, Diff Sequences Spark reduced the average execution times and monetary costs when using spot VMs compared to their respective on-demand VMs, even in scenarios with several spot revocations, benefiting from the low overhead fault tolerance Spark framework.

Resumen El Tumor Venéreo Transmisible (TVT), es una neoplasia común de la especie canina, se localiza principalmente en la mucosa de los genitales; es altamente contagiosa y es la única que puede ser transmisible mediante el trasplante celular por contacto directo. Se diagnostica por estudio citológico y su tratamiento es la quimioterapia con sulfato de vincristina, fármaco de elección por tener un alto porcentaje de efectividad y baja recidiva; sin embargo, se han descrito efectos adversos como trastornos digestivos, hemáticos y nerviosos por parte de la población tratada. El objetivo de este trabajo es dar a conocer la efectividad y comportamiento de otras alternativas para el tratamiento de TVT; primero con un protocolo de autohemoterapia y el otro mediante la inmunoterapia con ácido yatrénico mas caseína, que actúan sobre el sistema inmunológico del animal, haciendo que sea el mismo organismo quien realice la eliminación del tumor. Abstract Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT) is a common canine neoplasia; it is mainly located in the genital mucosa. This pathology is highly contagious and can be transmitted by direct contact cell transplantation from a diseased to a non-diseased mucosa. It is primarily diagnosed by cytology and its treatment is chemotherapy being the vincristine sulfate the medicine of choice. The Vincristine has a high rate of effectiveness and low recidivism; however, this alternative has important side effects. The treatment with Vincristine could cause primarily digestive upset, hematological, and nervous diseases. The objective of this work is to determine the efficacy and performance of alternative therapies for the treatment of TVT, firstly, with an autohemoterapy protocol, and using an immunotherapy treatment with yatrenic acid and casein, which acts in the animal’s immune system and causes the same organism to eradicate the tumor. Resumo O Tumor Venéreo Transmissível (TVT), é uma neoplasia comum da espécie canina, localiza-se principalmente na mucosa dos genitais; é altamente contagioso e é o único que pode ser transmitido por transplante de células de contato direto. É diagnosticado por estudo citológico e seu tratamento é a quimioterapia com sulfato de vincristina, a droga de escolha por apresentar alto percentual de eficácia e baixa recorrência; entretanto, efeitos adversos como distúrbios digestivos, sanguíneos e nervosos foram relatados na população tratada. O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar a eficácia e o comportamento de outras alternativas para o tratamento do TVT; a primeira com um protocolo de auto-hemoterapia e a outra por meio de imunoterapia com ácido yatrênico mais caseína, que atuam no sistema imunológico do animal, fazendo com que o mesmo organismo realize a retirada do tumor.

Introdução: A pediculose é considerada um ectoparasito que é ocasionado pelo Pediculus humanus capitis que infesta somente o couro cabeludo do homem e que possui histórico de longa data, no qual facilita compreender todos os empirismos que surgem e são praticados, até os dias atuais, acerca dessa temática. Objetivo: Instigar a importância da pediculose para as crianças e toda a comunidade, assim como minimizar os fatores vinculados com os determinantes sociais da saúde relacionados com o piolho de cabeça. Metodologia: Estudo observacional e qualitativo, com a participação de crianças e adolescentes, com idade entre 6 e 18 anos, de escolas, centros e creches públicas do Rio de Janeiro. O desenvolvimento deste trabalho ocorreu por meio de exposições de materiais didáticos, bem como apresentação de ovos e ninfas do Pediculus humanus em microscópios, peças teatrais, rodas de conversa, quebra-cabeças, fantoches, animações em Power Point e panfletos, por meio de discentes de enfermagem que atuam no projeto de extensão de Parasitologia, para tornar mais palpável possível o conhecimento científico deste parasito. Resultados: O público-alvo a todo momento interagiu com os participantes do projeto, mostrando-se pró-ativos e interessados pela temática, além de ter sido notado as mudanças intelectuais sobre o piolho de cabeça e os comportamentos frente a este problema sociocultural. Conclusão: A importância da educação em saúde apresentada em atividades lúdicas e dinâmicas contribuiu em mudanças nos hábitos das atividades de vida diárias sobre essa doença parasitária e a relevância da participação de graduandos de Enfermagem para estimular a promoção à saúde.

Dynamic provisioning of computational resources in cloud platforms is a challenging problem. In this scenario, multiagent system technology may offer noticeable improvements, with intelligent agents to dynamically choose the best computational load distribution reducing execution time and cloud services cost. Thus, this article presents MAS-Cloud, a multiagent system to dynamically monitor, predict and provide computational resources in cloud platforms. Deductive reasoning agents work cooperatively in a three layer architecture to provide transparent horizontal elasticity of virtual machines in public cloud platforms (i.e., Google, Amazon EC2). MAS-Cloud was evaluated with a nondeterministic and CPU intensive application providing a challenging validation case. A multiple linear regression model was used presenting good predictions with reduced mean absolute percent error achieving 3 . 59 % CPU usage and 5 . 28 % of execution time in the Google platform, and 3 . 97 % CPU usage and 5 . 47 % of execution time in the Amazon EC2 platform.

Digital pathology imaging enables valuable quantitative characterizations of tissue state at the sub-cellular level. While there is a growing set of methods for analysis of whole slide tissue images, many of them are sensitive to changes in input parameters. Evaluating how analysis results are affected by variations in input parameters is important for the development of robust methods. Executing algorithm sensitivity analyses by systematically varying input parameters is an expensive task because a single evaluation run with a moderate number of tissue images may take hours or days. Our work investigates the use of Surrogate Models (SMs) along with parallel execution to speed up parameter sensitivity analysis (SA). This approach significantly reduces the SA cost, because the SM execution is inexpensive. The evaluation of several SM strategies with two image segmentation workflows demonstrates that a SA study with SMs attains results close to a SA with real application runs (mean absolute error lower than 0.022), while the SM accelerates the SA execution by 51 × . We also show that, although the number of parameters in the example workflows is high, most of the uncertainty can be associated with a few parameters. In order to identify the impact of variations in segmentation results to downstream analyses, we carried out a survival analysis with 387 Lung Squamous Cell Carcinoma cases. This analysis was repeated using 3 values for the most significant parameters identified by the SA for the two segmentation algorithms; about 600 million cell nuclei were segmented per run. The results show that significance of the survival correlations of patient groups, assessed by a logrank test, are strongly affected by the segmentation parameter changes. This indicates that sensitivity analysis is an important tool for evaluating the stability of conclusions from image analyses.

Destina-se a coletar e avaliar informações sobre efeitos inesperados ou indesejáveis resultantes do uso terapêutico de produtos sanguíneos com intuito de prevenir sua ocorrência ou recorrência. Mas até recentemente, em especial no Brasil, os cuidados eram voltados exclusivamente para os efeitos adversos às transfusões de sangue, ou seja, o foco era no paciente. Em 2015 foi publicado o Marco Conceitual e Operacional em Hemovigilância onde se encontram os capítulos específicos ao doador de sangue com a classificação das reações quanto ao tempo de ocorrência, quanto à gravidade, quanto à correlação com a doação e quanto ao tipo de doação. Este projeto foi delineado diante da necessidade de diagnosticar os registros de reações adversas à doação de sangue no Hemocentro de Botucatu nos últimos cinco anos, também desenvolver e implantar manual para atendimento ao doador de sangue, efetuar treinamento específico de equipe, desenvolver e implantar registro de reações adversas à doação de sangue tardias, utilizando a home page do Hospital das Clínicas/Hemocentro e analisar prospectivamente o registro das reações adversas à doação de sangue. No período analisado foram coletadas 71.118 bolsas de sangue, das quais, 69.287 foram por meio de doação standard e outras 2.388 pelo método de aférese (4%). Durante o período observa-se uma discreta tendência a aumento do número de doações de sangue. Em 2014 foram 13.873 doações e, em 2018, 14.205, portanto um aumento de 2,40%. Nos anos 2014 e 2016 a classificação remete o Hemocentro de Botucatu para uma posição inferior dentre o range de 5 a 9,9 doadores/1000 habitantes. Já para os anos 2015, 2017 e 2018 este número é ligeiramente maior que 10, como a média brasileira indicada. De 2014 a 2018 foram registradas 1.063 reações adversas ainda na sala de coleta, ou seja, reações imediatas e não foram identificados registros ou queixas de reações tardias.
