157. Mediterranean clonal selections evaluated for modern hedgerow olive oil production in Spain

Abstract

Traditional olive oil production is limited by its high cost, mainly due to labor expenses for harvesting and pruning. A new olive planting system based on hedgerows and harvesting machines could decrease production costs while maintaining high quality. To improve the efficiency of the continuous-straddle mechanical harvesters, vigor must be managed to limit tree size. However, few cultivars are adapted to this system. Selections from three cultivars are typically used in these super-high-density orchards. We field-tested "Arbequina i-18", "Arbosana i-43" and "Koroneiki i-38" in an irrigated, super-high-density planting system in Catalonia (northeast Spain). We present a review of 6 years of horticultural data and summarize sensory characteristics and other properties of the resulting olive oils.

Abstract

Se trata de dar a conocer la existencia de tres pequeños puentes ubicados en las inmediaciones de Bocairent, comarca de la Vall d’Albaida (Valencia), presentando un avance de su estudio, con descripción y primeras planimetrías. Estos puentes se encuentran en viales muy secundarios en la actualidad, e incluso fuera de uso en un caso. Realizados en canteria, con sillares de piedra local, su antigüedad es indudable. A falta de otros datos, por el contexto y por sus propias características edilicias, se plantea la hipótesis de que fueran construidos hacia finales del siglo X, o principios del siglo XI. Su construcción estaría relacionada con la adecua- ción de los accesos al hisn de Bocairent y, probable- mente, con el paso de un camino entre la costa -Denia- y el interior peninsular.

Abstract

Abstract This paper introduces a novel joint channel and queuing-aware OFDMA scheduler for delay-sensitive traffic based on a hopfield neural network (HNN) scheme. It allows providing an optimum OFDMA performance by solving a complex combinational problem. The algorithm is based on distributing the available subcarriers among the users depending, on the one hand, on the time left for the transmission of the different packets in due time, so that packet droppings are avoided. On the other hand, it also accounts for the available channel capacity in each subcarrier depending on the channel status reported by the different users. The different requirements are captured in the form of an energy function that is minimized by the algorithm. In that respect, the paper illustrates two different algorithms coming from two settings of this energy function. The algorithms have been evaluated for delay-sensitive traffic and they have been compared against other state-of-the-art algorithms existing in the literature, exhibiting a better behavior in terms of packet-dropping probability.
