Abstract

We present results from the Met Office Unified Model (UM), a world-leading climate and weather model, adapted to simulate a dry Martian climate. We detail the adaptation of the basic parameterisations and analyse results from two simulations, one with radiatively active mineral dust and one with radiatively inactive dust. These simulations demonstrate how the radiative effects of dust act to accelerate the winds and create a mid-altitude isothermal layer during the dusty season. We validate our model through comparison with an established Mars model, the Laboratoire de M\'et\'eorologie Dynamique planetary climate model (PCM), finding good agreement in the seasonal wind and temperature profiles but with discrepancies in the predicted dust mass mixing ratio and conditions at the poles. This study validates the use of the UM for a Martian atmosphere, highlighting how the adaptation of an Earth general circulation model (GCM) can be beneficial for existing Mars GCMs and provides insight into the next steps in our development of a new Mars climate model., Comment: 20 pages, 12 figures with additional appendix figures

Abstract

Disorder-free localization (DFL) has been established as a mechanism of strong ergodicity breaking in $1+1$D lattice gauge theories (LGTs) with dynamical matter for quenches starting in homogeneous initial states that span an extensive number of gauge superselection sectors. Nevertheless, the fate of DFL in $2+1$D in the presence of dynamical matter has hitherto remained an open question of great interest in light of the instability of quenched-disorder many-body localization in higher spatial dimensions. Using infinite matrix product state calculations, we show that DFL survives in $2+1$D LGTs, albeit it is generally less pronounced than in $1+1$D, and highly depends on the matter configuration of the initial state. Through suitable matter configurations, we are able to relate and compare the $1+1$D and $2+1$D cases, showing that the main ingredient for the strength of DFL in our setup is the \textit{propagation directionality} of matter. Our results suggest that, generically, DFL is weakened with increasing spatial dimension, although it can be made independent of the latter by minimizing the propagation directionality of matter in the initial state., Comment: $7$ pages, $4$ figures

Abstract

The quantum simulation of gauge theories on synthetic quantum matter devices has gained a lot of traction in the last decade, making possible the observation of a range of exotic quantum many-body phenomena. In this work, we consider the spin-$1/2$ quantum link formulation of $1+1$D quantum electrodynamics with a topological $\theta$-angle, which can be used to tune a confinement-deconfinement transition. Exactly mapping this system onto a PXP model with mass and staggered magnetization terms, we show an intriguing interplay between confinement and the ergodicity-breaking paradigms of quantum many-body scarring and Hilbert-space fragmentation. We map out the rich dynamical phase diagram of this model, finding an ergodic phase at small values of the mass $\mu$ and confining potential $\chi$, an emergent integrable phase for large $\mu$, and a fragmented phase for large values of both parameters. We also show that the latter hosts resonances that lead to a vast array of effective models. Abstract

Using machine learning (ML) to recognize different phases of matter and to infer the entire phase diagram has proven to be an effective tool given a large dataset. In our previous proposals, we have successfully explored phase transitions for topological phases of matter at low dimensions either in a supervised or an unsupervised learning protocol with the assistance of quantum information related quantities. In this work, we adopt our previous ML procedures to study quantum phase transitions of magnetism systems such as the XY and XXZ spin chains by using spin-spin correlation functions as the input data. We find that our proposed approach not only maps out the phase diagrams with accurate phase boundaries, but also indicates some new features that have not observed before. In particular, we define so-called relevant correlation functions to some corresponding phases that can always distinguish between those and their neighbors. Based on the unsupervised learning protocol we proposed [Phys. Rev. B 104, 165108 (2021)], the reduced latent representations of the inputs combined with the clustering algorithm show the connectedness or disconnectedness between neighboring clusters (phases), just corresponding to the continuous or disrupt quantum phase transition, respectively., Comment: 18 pages, 21 figures

155. A Topic-Based Segmentation Model for Identifying Segment-Level Drivers of Star Ratings from Unstructured Text Reviews.

Abstract

Online reviews provide rich information on customer satisfaction, displaying various numeric ratings as well as detailed explanations presented in written form. However, analyzing such data is challenging due to the unstructured nature of text. This article introduces a novel machine-learning method for identifying interpretable key drivers of star ratings from text reviews, which might vary across segments. By adopting the Ising model prior to account for dependence between words, the model simultaneously achieves segmentation, identifies segment-level key topics (i.e., groups of frequently co-occurring words), and estimates the impacts of the selected words on the ratings. The authors first demonstrate that the proposed model successfully identifies segment-specific key drivers of customer satisfaction using illustrative simulated review data. Then, the authors utilize real-world reviews from Yelp for empirical applications. When applied to online reviews of 5,241 Arizona-based restaurants, the model identifies three distinct restaurant segments, each characterized by three to five important topics. The model's performance is evaluated against six benchmark models, encompassing various topic models and latent class regression with variable selection. The comparison results emphasize the proposed model's unique advantages in prediction, interpretability, and handling heterogeneity. 156. Drink Tap: A Multisector Program to Promote Water Access and Intake in San Francisco Parks.

Abstract

Taxes on sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs), or drinks with added sugars, show promise in decreasing purchases and consumption of SSBs. Some have called for coupling such taxes with improvements in access to safe drinking water as a strategy for reducing inequities in SSB intake, yet no studies have examined such an approach. Drink Tap is a San Francisco-based program in which public tap water stations were installed in parks and public spaces (winter 2017) and promotional efforts (fall and winter 2018) encouraged water intake. At the same time, San Francisco and surrounding communities were also implementing SSB taxes. We conducted a quasi-experimental study to examine whether water access and promotion combined with SSB taxes affected beverage intake habits more than SSB taxes alone. We conducted 1-hour observations (N = 960) at 10 intervention parks (Drink Tap plus SSB taxes) and 20 comparison parks (SSB taxes only) in San Francisco Bay Area cities before (July-September 2016) and after (June-August 2019) implementation of Drink Tap. We found significant adjusted percentage increases in drinking water among visitors to intervention parks, compared with comparison parks: water from park water sources (+80%, P < .001) and water from reusable bottles (+40%, P = .02). We found no significant reductions in visitors observed drinking bottled water, juices, or SSBs. The Drink Tap intervention led to increases in water intake from park sources and reusable bottles across parks that surpassed increases achieved through SSB taxes alone. Jurisdictions should consider coupling tap water access and promotion with policies for reducing intake of SSBs.

Abstract

2'-Deoxy-ATP (dATP), a naturally occurring near analog of ATP, is a well-documented myosin activator that has been shown to increase contractile force, improve pump function, and enhance lusitropy in the heart. Calcium transients in cardiomyocytes with elevated levels of dATP show faster calcium decay compared with cardiomyocytes with basal levels of dATP, but the mechanisms behind this are unknown. Here, we design and utilize a multiscale computational modeling framework to test the hypothesis that dATP acts on the sarcoendoplasmic reticulum calcium-ATPase (SERCA) pump to accelerate calcium re-uptake into the sarcoplasmic reticulum during cardiac relaxation. Gaussian accelerated molecular dynamics simulations of human cardiac SERCA2A in the E1 apo, ATP-bound and dATP-bound states showed that dATP forms more stable contacts in the nucleotide binding pocket of SERCA and leads to increased closure of cytosolic domains. These structural changes ultimately lead to changes in calcium binding, which we assessed using Brownian dynamics simulations. We found that dATP increases calcium association rate constants to SERCA and that dATP binds to apo SERCA more rapidly than ATP. Using a compartmental ordinary differential equation model of human cardiomyocyte excitation-contraction coupling, we found that these increased association rate constants contributed to the accelerated rates of calcium transient decay observed experimentally. This study provides clear mechanistic evidence of enhancements in cardiac SERCA2A pump function due to interactions with dATP.

Abstract

The acquisition of novel sexually dimorphic traits poses an evolutionary puzzle: How do new traits arise and become sex-limited? Recently acquired color vision, sexually dimorphic in animals like primates and butterflies, presents a compelling model for understanding how traits become sex-biased. For example, some Heliconius butterflies uniquely possess UV (ultraviolet) color vision, which correlates with the expression of two differentially tuned UV-sensitive rhodopsins, UVRh1 and UVRh2. To discover how such traits become sexually dimorphic, we studied Heliconius charithonia, which exhibits female-specific UVRh1 expression. We demonstrate that females, but not males, discriminate different UV wavelengths. Through whole-genome shotgun sequencing and assembly of the H. charithonia genome, we discovered that UVRh1 is present on the W chromosome, making it obligately female-specific. By knocking out UVRh1, we show that UVRh1 protein expression is absent in mutant female eye tissue, as in wild-type male eyes. A PCR survey of UVRh1 sex-linkage across the genus shows that species with female-specific UVRh1 expression lack UVRh1 gDNA in males. Thus, acquisition of sex linkage is sufficient to achieve female-specific expression of UVRh1, though this does not preclude other mechanisms, like cis-regulatory evolution from also contributing. Moreover, both this event, and mutations leading to differential UV opsin sensitivity, occurred early in the history of Heliconius. These results suggest a path for acquiring sexual dimorphism distinct from existing mechanistic models. We propose a model where gene traffic to heterosomes (the W or the Y) genetically partitions a trait by sex before a phenotype shifts (spectral tuning of UV sensitivity).

Abstract

BackgroundTwo antifibrotic medications, pirfenidone and nintedanib, are approved for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Little is known about their real-world adoption.Research questionWhat are the real-world antifibrotic utilization rates and factors associated with uptake among a national cohort of veterans with IPF?Study design and methodsThis study identified veterans with IPF who received care either provided by the Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare System or non-VA care paid for by the VA. Patients who had filled at least one antifibrotic prescription through the VA pharmacy or Medicare Part D between October 15, 2014, and December 31, 2019, were identified. Hierarchical logistic regression models were used to examine factors associated with antifibrotic uptake, accounting for comorbidities, facility clustering, and follow-up time. Fine-Gray models were used to evaluate antifibrotic use by demographic factors, accounting for the competing risk of death.ResultsAmong 14,792 veterans with IPF, 17% received antifibrotics. There were significant disparities in adoption, with lower uptake associated with female sex (adjusted OR, 0.41; 95% CI, 0.27-0.63; P < .001), Black race (adjusted OR, 0.60; 95% CI, 0.49-0.73; P < .001), and rural residence (adjusted OR, 0.88; 95% CI, 0.80-0.97; P = .012). Veterans who received their index diagnosis of IPF outside the VA were less likely to receive antifibrotic therapy (adjusted OR, 0.15; 95% CI, 0.10-0.22; P < .001).InterpretationThis study is the first to evaluate the real-world adoption of antifibrotic medications among veterans with IPF. Overall uptake was low, and there were significant disparities in use. Interventions to address these issues deserve further investigation.

Abstract

Rationale: United States veterans represent an important population to study sarcoidosis. Their unique history of environmental exposures, wide geographic distribution, and long-term enrollment in a single integrated healthcare system provides an unparalleled opportunity to understand the incidence, prevalence, and risk factors for sarcoidosis. Objectives: To determine the epidemiology, patient characteristics, geographic distribution, and associated risk factors of sarcoidosis among U.S. veterans. Methods: We used data from the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) electronic health record system between 2003 and 2019 to evaluate the annual incidence, prevalence, and geographic distribution of sarcoidosis (defined using the International Classification of Diseases codes). We used multivariate logistic regression to examine patient characteristics associated with sarcoidosis incidence. Results: Among more than 13 million veterans who received care through or paid for by the VHA, 23,747 (0.20%) incident diagnoses of sarcoidosis were identified. Compared with selected VHA control subjects using propensity score matching, veterans with sarcoidosis were more likely to be female (13.5% vs. 9.0%), of Black race (52.2% vs. 17.0%), and ever-tobacco users (74.2% vs. 64.5%). There was an increase in the annual incidence of sarcoidosis between 2004 and 2019 (from 38 to 52 cases/100,000 person-years) and the annual prevalence between 2003 and 2019 (from 79 to 141 cases/100,000 persons). In a multivariate logistic regression model, Black race (odds ratio [OR], 4.49; 95% confidence interval [CI], 4.33-4.65), female sex (OR, 1.64; 95% CI, 1.56-1.73), living in the Northeast compared with the western region (OR, 1.57; 95% CI, 1.48-1.67), history of tobacco use (OR, 1.36; 95% CI, 1.31-1.41), and serving in the Army, Air Force, or multiple branches compared with the Navy (OR, 1.08; 95% CI, 1.03-1.13; OR, 1.10; 95% CI, 1.04-1.17; OR, 1.27; 95% CI, 1.16-1.39, respectively) were significantly associated with incident sarcoidosis (P

Abstract

PurposeTo develop models for progression of nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) to proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and determine if incorporating updated information improves model performance.DesignRetrospective cohort study.ParticipantsElectronic health record (EHR) data from a tertiary academic center, University of California San Francisco (UCSF), and a safety-net hospital, Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG) Hospital were used to identify patients with a diagnosis of NPDR, age ≥ 18 years, a diagnosis of type 1 or 2 diabetes mellitus, ≥ 6 months of ophthalmology follow-up, and no prior diagnosis of PDR before the index date (date of first NPDR diagnosis in the EHR).MethodsFour survival models were developed: Cox proportional hazards, Cox with backward selection, Cox with LASSO regression and Random Survival Forest. For each model, three variable sets were compared to determine the impact of including updated clinical information: Static0 (data up to the index date), Static6m (data updated 6 months after the index date), and Dynamic (data in Static0 plus data change during the 6-month period). The UCSF data were split into 80% training and 20% testing (internal validation). The ZSFG data were used for external validation. Model performance was evaluated by the Harrell's concordance index (C-Index).Main outcome measuresTime to PDR.ResultsThe UCSF cohort included 1130 patients and 92 (8.1%) patients progressed to PDR. The ZSFG cohort included 687 patients and 30 (4.4%) patients progressed to PDR. All models performed similarly (C-indices ∼ 0.70) in internal validation. The random survival forest with Static6m set performed best in external validation (C-index 0.76). Insurance and age were selected or ranked as highly important by all models. Other key predictors were NPDR severity, diabetic neuropathy, number of strokes, mean Hemoglobin A1c, and number of hospital admissions.ConclusionsOur models for progression of NPDR to PDR achieved acceptable predictive performance and validated well in an external setting. Abstract

PurposeAlthough congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) are among the leading causes of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) in children and young adults, kidney transplantation access for this population has not been well studied in the US. We compared transplantation access in the US based on whether the etiology of kidney disease was secondary to CAKUT, and additionally by CAKUT subgroups (anatomic vs. inherited causes of CAKUT).MethodsUsing the United States Renal Data System, we conducted a retrospective cohort study of 80,531 children and young adults who started dialysis between 1995 and 2015. We used adjusted Cox models to examine the association between etiology of kidney disease (CAKUT vs. non-CAKUT, anatomic vs. inherited) and receipt of kidney transplantation, and secondarily, receipt of a living vs. deceased donor kidney transplant.ResultsOverall, we found an increased likelihood of kidney transplantation access for participants with CAKUT compared to those without CAKUT (HR 1.23; 95% CI 1.20-1.27). Among the subset of individuals with CAKUT as the attributed cause of ESKD, we found a lower likelihood of kidney transplantation in those with anatomic causes of CAKUT compared to those with inherited causes of CAKUT (adjusted HR 0.85; 0.81-0.90).ConclusionThere are notable disparities in kidney transplantation rates among CAKUT subgroups. Those with anatomic causes of CAKUT started on dialysis have significantly reduced access to kidney transplantations compared to individuals with inherited causes of CAKUT who were initiated on dialysis. Further studies are needed to understand barriers to transplantation access in this population.

167. Middle School Students' Development of an Understanding of the Concept of Function Using an Applet with No Algebraic Representations

Abstract

Middle school students (n = 144) worked with an applet specially designed to introduce the concept of function without using algebraic representations. The purpose of the study was to examine whether the applet would help students understand function as a relationship between a set of inputs and a set of outputs and to begin to develop a definition of function based on that relationship. Results indicate that, by focusing on consistency of the outputs, the students, at a rate of approximately 80%, are able to distinguish functions from nonfunctions. Also, students showed some promise in recognizing constant functions as functions, a known area of common misconceptions. Students' main conceptual difficulty, likely caused by the context, was accepting nonintuitive outputs even if those outputs were consistent.

Abstract

A major driver of quantum-simulator technology is the prospect of probing high-energy phenomena in synthetic quantum matter setups at a high level of control and tunability. Here, we propose an experimentally feasible realization of a large-scale $2+1$D $\mathrm{U}(1)$ gauge theory with dynamical matter and gauge fields in a cold-atom quantum simulator with spinless bosons. We present the full mapping of the corresponding Gauss's law onto the bosonic computational basis. We then show that the target gauge theory can be faithfully realized and stabilized by an emergent gauge protection term in a two-dimensional single-species Bose--Hubbard optical Lieb superlattice with two spatial periods along either direction, thereby requiring only moderate experimental resources already available in current cold-atom setups. Using infinite matrix product states, we calculate numerical benchmarks for adiabatic sweeps and global quench dynamics that further confirm the fidelity of the mapping. Our work brings quantum simulators of gauge theories a significant step forward in terms of investigating particle physics in higher spatial dimensions, and is readily implementable in existing cold-atom platforms., Comment: 8+5 pages, 3+2 figures

Abstract

Understanding the growth and distribution of the prawns is critical for optimising the feed and harvest strategies. An inadequate understanding of prawn growth can lead to reduced financial gain, for example, crops are harvested too early. The key to maintaining a good understanding of prawn growth is frequent sampling. However, the most commonly adopted sampling practice, the cast net approach, is unable to sample the prawns at a high frequency as it is expensive and laborious. An alternative approach is to sample prawns from feed trays that farm workers inspect each day. This will allow growth data collection at a high frequency (each day). But measuring prawns manually each day is a laborious task. In this article, we propose a new approach that utilises smart glasses, depth camera, computer vision and machine learning to detect prawn distribution and growth from feed trays. A smart headset was built to allow farmers to collect prawn data while performing daily feed tray checks. Abstract

Agent-based modelling (ABM) is a facet of wider Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) research that explores the collective behaviour of individual `agents', and the implications that their behaviour and interactions have for wider systemic behaviour. The method has been shown to hold considerable value in exploring and understanding human societies, but is still largely confined to use in academia. This is particularly evident in the field of Urban Analytics; one that is characterised by the use of new forms of data in combination with computational approaches to gain insight into urban processes. In Urban Analytics, ABM is gaining popularity as a valuable method for understanding the low-level interactions that ultimately drive cities, but as yet is rarely used by stakeholders (planners, governments, etc.) to address real policy problems. This paper presents the state-of-the-art in the application of ABM at the interface of MAS and Urban Analytics by a group of ABM researchers who are affiliated with the Urban Analytics programme of the Alan Turing Institute in London (UK). It addresses issues around modelling behaviour, the use of new forms of data, the calibration of models under high uncertainty, real-time modelling, the use of AI techniques, large-scale models, and the implications for modelling policy. The discussion also contextualises current research in wider debates around Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and MAS more broadly.

Abstract

The Q&U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology (QUBIC) is a novel kind of polarimeter optimized for the measurement of the B-mode polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Back-ground (CMB), which is one of the major challenges of observational cosmology. The signal is expected to be of the order of a few tens of nK, prone to instrumental systematic effects and polluted by various astrophysical foregrounds which can only be controlled through multichroic observations. Abstract

Parental guilt, one common subtype of guilt often associated with work-family conflict (WFC), has been found to be associated with depression and anxiety. Because many people view their pets as family members and even children, the current study was designed to explore dog owners’ dog-related guilt and its relationship with depression and anxiety. Through an online anonymous survey, the results of our study suggest that dog owners’ guilt and dog-related WFC are at comparable levels to those reported in human family studies. They are also both significant predictors of depression and anxiety. It is important for mental health professionals to be aware of this disenfranchised guilt and help clients cope in positive ways. Guidance related to self-compassion is offered as one strategy to help pet owners struggling with this common, but often trivialized, source of guilt.

Abstract

ObjectiveTo assess the effects of weight loss and weight gain on hip and knee radiographic changes, pain, and joint replacement over 4 years.MethodsParticipants (n = 2,752) from the Osteoarthritis Initiative were classified as those with weight gain (more than 5% gain), weight loss (more than -5% loss), or as controls (-3% to 3% change) over 4 years. Generalized estimating equations (adjusted for age, sex, and body mass index) were used to assess the relationship between the weight-change group and 4-year changes in knee radiographic osteoarthritis (OA) (Kellgren/Lawrence [K/L] grade), hip OA (Croft summary grade), joint space narrowing (JSN), and joint pain.ResultsFor radiographic knee OA, weight loss was associated with significantly lower odds of K/L grade worsening over 4 years (odds ratio [OR] 0.69 [95% confidence interval (95% CI) 0.53-0.91], P = 0.009), and weight gain was significantly associated with higher odds of medial knee JSN (OR 1.29 [95% CI 1.01-1.64], P = 0.038) compared to controls. For knee pain, weight loss was significantly associated with knee pain resolution over 4 years (OR 1.40 [95% CI 1.06-1.86], P = 0.019) while weight gain was associated with knee pain development (OR 1.34 [95% CI 1.08-1.67], P = 0.009) compared to controls. For all hip outcomes, no significant associations (P > 0.05) were found with weight-change groups. The associations between the weight-change group and total hip or total knee replacement were not significant (P > 0.05).ConclusionThis large, longitudinal study (n = 2,752 with 4-year follow-up) suggests that weight loss may protect against, and weight gain may exacerbate, radiographic and symptomatic knee OA, while weight change (at a 5% threshold) does not have significant effects on hip OA.

Abstract

Mixed conductors-materials that can efficiently conduct both ionic and electronic species-are an important class of functional solids. Here we demonstrate an organic nanocomposite that spontaneously forms when mixing an organic semiconductor with an ionic liquid and exhibits efficient room-temperature mixed conduction. We use a polymer known to form a semicrystalline microstructure to template ion intercalation into the side-chain domains of the crystallites, which leaves electronic transport pathways intact. Thus, the resulting material is ordered, exhibiting alternating layers of rigid semiconducting sheets and soft ion-conducting layers. This unique dual-network microstructure leads to a dynamic ionic/electronic nanocomposite with liquid-like ionic transport and highly mobile electronic charges. Using a combination of operando X-ray scattering and in situ spectroscopy, we confirm the ordered structure of the nanocomposite and uncover the mechanisms that give rise to efficient electron transport. These results provide fundamental insights into charge transport in organic semiconductors, as well as suggesting a pathway towards future improvements in these nanocomposites.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Self-measured blood pressure monitoring (SMBP) is essential to effective management of hypertension. This study aims to evaluate effectiveness and implementation of SMBP that leverages: cellular-enabled home BP monitors without a need for Wi-Fi or Bluetooth; simple communication modalities such as text messaging to support patient engagement; and integration into existing team-based workflows in safety-net clinics. METHODS: This study will be conducted with patients in San Francisco who are treated within a network of safety-net clinics. English and Spanish-speaking patients with diagnosed hypertension will be eligible for the trial if they have recent BP readings ≥140/90 mmHg and do not have co-morbid conditions that make home BP monitoring more complex to manage. This study will implement a three-arm randomized controlled trial to compare varying levels of implementation support: 1) cellular-enabled BP monitors (with minimal implementation support), 2) cellular-enabled BP monitors with protocol-based implementation support (text reminders for patients; aggregated BP summaries sent to primary care providers), and 3) cellular-enabled BP monitors and pharmacist-led support (pharmacist coaching and independent medication adjustments). Abstract

This thesis is concerned with definability questions for structures given by expanding the ordered real field by various classical functions. Initial results in this area concern the structure given by expanding the ordered real field by the real exponential function. The rich model theory of this structure immediately shows that the sine function is not definable in this structure. Bianconi showed that no restriction of the sine function is definable in this structure. In this work we consider similar definability questions for a function that is similar to the exponential function, which is known as the Weierstrass P-function. The proofs of these results rely on a version of a functional transcendence result known as Ax's Theorem for the Weierstrass P-function. A corresponding theorem for the modular j-function is due to Pila and Tsimermann and by using this theorem we also obtain a definability result for the j-function. Definability questions for expansions of the real field by several P-functions were considered and answered in work of Jones, Kirby and Servi. The P-function arises in the exponential map of elliptic curves, which are the abelian varieties of dimension 1. In this thesis we give a corresponding result for the exponential maps of all abelian varieties. This is joint work with Jones and Kirby.
