THz waves are promising wireless carriers for next-generation wireless communications, where a seamless connection from wireless to optical communication is required. In this study, we demonstrate carrier conversion from THz waves to dual-wavelength NIR light injection-locking to an optical frequency comb using asynchronous nonpolarimetric electro-optic downconversion with an electro-optic polymer modulator. THz wave in the W band was obtained as a stable photonic RF beat signal of 1 GHz with a signal-to-noise ratio of 25 dB via the proposed THz-to-NIR carrier conversion. Quantum dots can be formed in simple GaN/AlGaN field-effect-transistors (FETs) by disordered potential induced by impurities and defects. Here, we investigate the channel length dependence of the formation of quantum dots. We observe decrease of the number of formed quantum dots with decrease of the FET channel length. A few quantum dots are formed in the case with the gate length of 0.05~$\mu $m and we evaluate the dot parameters and the disordered potential. Wealth distribution is a complex and critical aspect of any society. Information exchange is considered to have played a role in shaping wealth distribution patterns, but the specific dynamic mechanism is still unclear. In this research, we used simulation-based methods to investigate the impact of different modes of information exchange on wealth distribution. We compared different combinations of information exchange strategies and moving strategies, analyzed their impact on wealth distribution using classic wealth distribution indicators such as the Gini coefficient. Our findings suggest that information exchange strategies have significant impact on wealth distribution and that promoting more equitable access to information and resources is crucial in building a just and equitable society for all., Comment: 19 pages, 37 figures

Let $K$ be a field. In this article, we derive a formula for the discriminant of a sequence $\{r_{A,n}+c r_{A,n-1}\}$ of polynomials. Here, $c \in K$ and $\{r_{A,n} \}$ is a sequence of polynomials satisfying a certain recurrence relation that is considered by Ulas or Turaj. There are several works calculating the discriminants of given polynomials. For example, Kaneko--Niiho and Mahlburg--Ono independently proved the formula for the discriminants of certain hypergeometric polynomials that are related to $j$-invariants of supersingular elliptic curves. Sawa--Uchida proved the formula for the discriminants of quasi-Jacobi polynomials. In this article, we present a uniform way to prove a vast generalization of the above formulas. Crystal field level scheme of a uniaxial chiral helimagnet YbNi$_3$Al$_9$, exhibiting a chiral magnetic soliton lattice state by Cu substitution for Ni, has been determined by inelastic neutron scattering. The ground and the first excited doublets are separated by 44 K and are simply expressed as $\alpha|\pm 7/2\rangle + \beta |\mp 5/2\rangle$ with $\alpha$ and $\beta$ nearly equal to $\pm 1/\sqrt{2}$. The easy axis of the crystal field anisotropy is the $c$ axis when the excited levels are populated at high temperatures and high magnetic fields. On the other hand, the magnetism at low temperatures and low magnetic fields, where only the ground doublet is populated, is described by an easy plane anisotropy which may be treated as an $S=1/2$ system with an anisotropic $g$-factor, $g_{xy}=3.02$ and $g_z=1.14$. We investigated the quantum state of an optomechanical suspended mirror under continuous measurement and feedback control using Wiener filtering. We focus on the impact of the two-mode theory of suspended mirror on the quantum state, which is described by the pendulum and rotational modes. It is derived from the beam model coupled to the cavity light in the low-frequency regime, including the internal friction of the beam and the finite size effect of the mirror. We constructed a Wiener filter for the two-mode theory and predicted the quantum state by evaluating the conditional covariance matrix using Wiener filter analysis. The results demonstrate that multimode analysis may play an important role in generating the quantum squeezed state. We also point out the possibility that one-mode analysis can be a good approximation by choosing the range of the Fourier space in the Wiener filter analysis., Comment: 34 pages, 14 figures

In this paper, we prove that a non-projective compact K\"ahler $3$-fold with nef anti-canonical bundle is, up to a finite \'etale cover, one of the following: a manifold with vanishing first Chern class; the product of a K3 surface and the projective line; or a projective space bundle over a $2$-dimensional torus. This result extends Cao-H\"oring's structure theorem for projective manifolds to compact K\"ahler manifolds in dimension $3$. We present BISTRO Survey 850 {\mu}m dust emission polarisation observations of the L1495A-B10 region of the Taurus molecular cloud, taken at the JCMT. We observe a roughly triangular network of dense filaments. We detect 9 of the dense starless cores embedded within these filaments in polarisation, finding that the plane-of-sky orientation of the core-scale magnetic field lies roughly perpendicular to the filaments in almost all cases. We also find that the large-scale magnetic field orientation measured by Planck is not correlated with any of the core or filament structures, except in the case of the lowest-density core. We propose a scenario for early prestellar evolution that is both an extension to, and consistent with, previous models, introducing an additional evolutionary transitional stage between field-dominated and matter-dominated evolution, observed here for the first time. In this scenario, the cloud collapses first to a sheet-like structure. Uniquely, we appear to be seeing this sheet almost face-on. The sheet fragments into filaments, which in turn form cores. However, the material must reach a certain critical density before the evolution changes from being field-dominated to being matter-dominated. We measure the sheet surface density and the magnetic field strength at that transition for the first time and show consistency with an analytical prediction that had previously gone untested for over 50 years (Mestel 1965)., Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures. LiteBIRD is a planned JAXA-led CMB B-mode satellite experiment aiming for launch in the late 2020s, with a primary goal of detecting the imprint of primordial inflationary gravitational waves. Its current baseline focal-plane configuration includes 15 frequency bands between 40 and 402 GHz, fulfilling the mission requirements to detect the amplitude of gravitational waves with the total uncertainty on the tensor-to-scalar ratio, $\delta r$, down to $\delta r<0.001$. A key aspect of this performance is accurate astrophysical component separation, and the ability to remove polarized thermal dust emission is particularly important. In this paper we note that the CMB frequency spectrum falls off nearly exponentially above 300 GHz relative to the thermal dust SED, and a relatively minor high frequency extension can therefore result in even lower uncertainties and better model reconstructions. Specifically, we compare the baseline design with five extended configurations, while varying the underlying dust modeling, in each of which the HFT (High-Frequency Telescope) frequency range is shifted logarithmically towards higher frequencies, with an upper cutoff ranging between 400 and 600 GHz. In each case, we measure the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$ uncertainty and bias using both parametric and minimum-variance component-separation algorithms. When the thermal dust sky model includes a spatially varying spectral index and temperature, we find that the statistical uncertainty on $r$ after foreground cleaning may be reduced by as much as 30--50 % by extending the upper limit of the frequency range from 400 to 600 GHz, with most of the improvement already gained at 500 GHz. Various kinds of applications take advantage of GPUs through automation tools that attempt to automatically exploit the available performance of the GPU's parallel architecture. Directive-based programming models, such as OpenACC, are one such method that easily enables parallel computing by just adhering code annotations to code loops. Such abstract models, however, often prevent programmers from making additional low-level optimizations to take advantage of the advanced architectural features of GPUs because the actual generated computation is hidden from the application developer. This paper describes and implements a novel flexible optimization technique that operates by inserting a code emulator phase to the tail-end of the compilation pipeline. Our tool emulates the generated code using symbolic analysis by substituting dynamic information and thus allowing for further low-level code optimizations to be applied. We implement our tool to support both CUDA and OpenACC directives as the frontend of the compilation pipeline, thus enabling low-level GPU optimizations for OpenACC that were not previously possible. We demonstrate the capabilities of our tool by automating warp-level shuffle instructions that are difficult to use by even advanced GPU programmers. We revisit conduct parameter estimation in homogeneous goods markets to resolve the conflict between Bresnahan (1982) and Perloff and Shen (2012) regarding the identification and the estimation of conduct parameters. We point out that Perloff and Shen's (2012) proof is incorrect and its simulation setting is invalid. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems will play a crucial role in future wireless communication, but improving their signal detection performance to increase transmission efficiency remains a challenge. To address this issue, we propose extending the discrete signal detection problem in MIMO systems to a continuous one and applying the Hamiltonian Monte Carlo method, an efficient Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm. In our previous studies, we have used a mixture of normal distributions for the prior distribution. In this study, we propose using a mixture of t-distributions, which further improves detection performance. Based on our theoretical analysis and computer simulations, the proposed method can achieve near-optimal signal detection with polynomial computational complexity. A half-wave plate (HWP) is often used as a modulator to suppress systematic error in the measurements of cosmic microwave background (CMB) polarization. A HWP can also be used to measure circular polarization (CP) through its optical leakage from CP to linear polarization. The CP of the CMB is predicted from various sources, such as interactions in the Universe and extension of the standard model. Interaction with supernova remnants of population III stars is one of the brightest CP sources. Thus, the observation of the CP of CMB is a new tool for searching for population III stars. In this paper, we demonstrate the improved measurement of the leakage coefficient using the transmission measurement of an actual HWP in the laboratory. We measured the transmittance of linearly polarized light through the HWP used in \textsc{Polarbear} in the frequency range of \SIrange{120}{160}{GHz}. We evaluate properties of the HWP by fitting the data with a physical model using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method. We then estimate the band-averaged CP leakage coefficient using the physical model. We find that the leakage coefficient strongly depends on the spectra of CP sources. We thus calculate the maximum fractional leakage coefficient from CP to linear polarization as $0.133 \pm 0.009$ in the Rayleigh--Jeans spectrum. The nonzero value shows that \textsc{Polarbear} has sensitivity to CP. Additionally, because we use the bandpass of detectors installed in the telescope to calculate the band-averaged values, we also consider systematic effects in the experiment., Comment: 27 pages, 7 figures

We consider how the reduced dynamics of an open quantum system coupled to an environment admits the Poincar\'e symmetry. The reduced dynamics is described by a dynamical map, which is given by tracing out the environment from the total unitary evolution without initial correlations. We investigate the dynamical map which is invariant under the Poincar\'e group. Based on the unitary representation theory of the Poincar\'e group, we develop a systematic way to give such a dynamical map. Using this way, we derive the dynamical map of a massive particle with a finite spin and a massless particle with a finite spin and a nonzero momentum. The dynamical map of a spinless massive particle is exemplified and the conservation of the Poincar\'e generators is discussed. We then find the map with the Poincar\'e invariance and the four-momentum conservation. Further, we show that the conservation of the angular momentum and the boost operator makes the map of a spinless massive particle unitary, Comment: 31 pages, 1 table

Pendulums have long been used as force sensors due to their ultimately low dissipation (high-quality factor) characteristic. They are widely used in the measurement of the gravitational constant, detection of gravitational waves, and determination of ultralight dark matter. Furthermore, it is expected that the quantum nature of gravity will be demonstrated by performing quantum control for macroscopic pendulums. Recently, we have demonstrated that quantum entanglement between two pendulums can be generated using an optical spring [D. Miki, N. Matsumoto, A. Matsumura, T. Shichijo, Y. Sugiyama, K. Yamamoto, and N. Yamamoto, arXiv:2210.13169 (2022)]; however, we have ignored that an optical spring can reduce the quality factor (Q-factor) by applying normal-mode splitting between the pendulum and rotational modes possessing relatively high dissipation. Herein, we analyze a system composed of a cylinder suspended using a beam (a suspended mirror, i.e., a pendulum) and an optical spring to consider normal-mode splitting. The reduction in Q-factor is determined only by the beam parameters: the ratio of the radius of the mirror to the length of the beam, and the ratio of the frequency of the rotational mode to the pendulum mode in the absence of cavity photons. In our analysis, we find that the reduction factor $4.38$ is reproduced, which is consistent with the experimental result in Matsumoto \textit{et al.} [N. Matsumoto, S. B. Catan$\tilde{\text{o}}$-Lopez, M. Sugawara, S. Suzuki, N. Abe, K. Komori, Y. Michimura, Y. Aso, and K. Edamatsu, Phys. Rev. Lett. 122, 071101 (2019)]. We study the HII regions associated with the NGC 6334 molecular cloud observed in the sub-millimeter and taken as part of the B-fields In STar-forming Region Observations (BISTRO) Survey. In particular, we investigate the polarization patterns and magnetic field morphologies associated with these HII regions. Through polarization pattern and pressure calculation analyses, several of these bubbles indicate that the gas and magnetic field lines have been pushed away from the bubble, toward an almost tangential (to the bubble) magnetic field morphology. In the densest part of NGC 6334, where the magnetic field morphology is similar to an hourglass, the polarization observations do not exhibit observable impact from HII regions. We detect two nested radial polarization patterns in a bubble to the south of NGC 6334 that correspond to the previously observed bipolar structure in this bubble. Finally, using the results of this study, we present steps (incorporating computer vision; circular Hough Transform) that can be used in future studies to identify bubbles that have physically impacted magnetic field lines., Comment: Accepted for publication in Astrophysical Journal (ApJ)

Human pose estimation, particularly in athletes, can help improve their performance. However, this estimation is difficult using existing methods, such as human annotation, if the subjects wear loose-fitting clothes such as ski/snowboard wears. This study developed a method for obtaining the ground truth data on two-dimensional (2D) poses of a human wearing loose-fitting clothes. This method uses fast-flushing light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The subjects were required to wear loose-fitting clothes and place the LED on the target joints. The LEDs were observed directly using a camera by selecting thin filmy loose-fitting clothes. The proposed method captures the scene at 240 fps by using a high-frame-rate camera and renders two 30 fps image sequences by extracting LED-on and -off frames. The temporal differences between the two video sequences can be ignored, considering the speed of human motion. The LED-on video was used to manually annotate the joints and thus obtain the ground truth data. Additionally, the LED-off video, equivalent to a standard video at 30 fps, confirmed the accuracy of existing machine learning-based methods and manual annotations. Experiments demonstrated that the proposed method can obtain ground truth data for standard RGB videos. We present 850 $\mu$m dust polarization observations of the massive DR21 filament from the B-fields In STar-forming Region Observations (BISTRO) survey, using the POL-2 polarimeter and the SCUBA-2 camera on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope. We detect ordered magnetic fields perpendicular to the parsec-scale ridge of the DR21 main filament. In the sub-filaments, the magnetic fields are mainly parallel to the filamentary structures and smoothly connect to the magnetic fields of the main filament. We compare the POL-2 and Planck dust polarization observations to study the magnetic field structures of the DR21 filament on 0.1--10 pc scales. The magnetic fields revealed in the Planck data are well aligned with those of the POL-2 data, indicating a smooth variation of magnetic fields from large to small scales. The plane-of-sky magnetic field strengths derived from angular dispersion functions of dust polarization are 0.6--1.0 mG in the DR21 filament and $\sim$ 0.1 mG in the surrounding ambient gas. The mass-to-flux ratios are found to be magnetically supercritical in the filament and slightly subcritical to nearly critical in the ambient gas. The alignment between column density structures and magnetic fields changes from random alignment in the low-density ambient gas probed by Planck to mostly perpendicular in the high-density main filament probed by JCMT. The magnetic field structures of the DR21 filament are in agreement with MHD simulations of a strongly magnetized medium, suggesting that magnetic fields play an important role in shaping the DR21 main filament and sub-filaments., Comment: 26 pages, 13 figures, ApJ accepted
