Abstract

International audience; The regioselectivity of the conjugate nucleophilic addition of amines to vicinal di-acceptor-substituted alkenes has been studied. A set of results obtained with standard primary and secondary amines gives some clues on the relative acceptor character of classical electron-withdrawing groups (EWG). We have shown in addition that computed inverse local nucleophilicity index can be used to predict the regioselectivity of the nucleophilic attack.

154. Vaccination against Measles in Patients with Oncological Disease

Abstract

Relevance. Growing distrust of vaccines around the world, a decrease in vaccination rates have led to an increase in the incidence of measles and a rise in the vulnerability of people with immunodeficiency status. The aim. To study the efficacy and safety of measles vaccination in children with oncohematological diseases. Materials & methods. The study involved 107 children: 74 of them with a history of acute lymphoblastic leukemia and 33 with solid tumors. All children had a history of receiving standardized polychemotherapy. In all the subjects, the vaccination history was studied, the titers of specific antibodies to measles were determined. Children with non-protective levels of antibodies (53 children) were subsequently vaccinated against measles. Results and discussions. Of the 107 children examined, before cancer, 99 (92.5%) were vaccinated against measles, of which 68 (68.7%) patients were only vaccinated, and 31 (31.3%) had vaccination and revaccination. Protective titers of antibodies against measles were preserved in 51 people (51.5%), and 48 (48.5%) were seronegative. When assessing immunogenicity on days 14, 45 after the introduction of the vaccine, it turned out that by day 14, 27 out of 53 children (50.9%) developed measles antibodies, and by day 45, 33 out of 53 children (62.3%), the rest of the children did not developed a protective level of antibodies, including 3 of 6 revaccinated. Conclusion. Thus, children with malignant diseases, regardless of the number of previous vaccinations and the duration of the end of therapy, become unprotected or have low titers of antibodies to measles in 83.8%, and immunization after treatment is effective in 62.3% of cases.

Abstract

We report the discovery of an extended very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray source around the location of the middle-aged (207.8 kyr) pulsar PSR J0622+3749 with the Large High-Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). The source is detected with a significance of 8.2σ for E25 TeV assuming a Gaussian template. The best-fit location is (right ascension, declination) =(95.47°±0.11°,37.92°±0.09°), and the extension is 0.40°±0.07°. The energy spectrum can be described by a power-law spectrum with an index of -2.92±0.17_{stat}±0.02_{sys}. No clear extended multiwavelength counterpart of the LHAASO source has been found from the radio to sub-TeV bands. The LHAASO observations are consistent with the scenario that VHE electrons escaped from the pulsar, diffused in the interstellar medium, and scattered the interstellar radiation field. If interpreted as the pulsar halo scenario, the diffusion coefficient, inferred for electrons with median energies of ∼160 TeV, is consistent with those obtained from the extended halos around Geminga and Monogem and much smaller than that derived from cosmic ray secondaries. The LHAASO discovery of this source thus likely enriches the class of so-called pulsar halos and confirms that high-energy particles generally diffuse very slowly in the disturbed medium around pulsars.

Abstract

Scientific reports 11(1), 10774 (1-15) (2021). doi:10.1038/s41598-021-89613-6, Two-component systems (TCS) are widespread signaling systems present in all domains of life. TCS typically consist of a signal receptor/transducer and a response regulator. The receptors (histidine kinases, chemoreceptors and photoreceptors) are often embedded in the membrane and have a similar modular structure. Chemoreceptors were shown to function in highly ordered arrays, with trimers of dimers being the smallest functional unit. However, much less is known about photoreceptors. Here, we use small-angle scattering (SAS) to show that detergent-solubilized sensory rhodopsin II in complex with its cognate transducer forms dimers at low salt concentration, which associate into trimers of dimers at higher buffer molarities. We then fit an atomistic model of the whole complex into the SAS data. The obtained results suggest that the trimer of dimers is "tripod"-shaped and that the contacts between the dimers occur only through their cytoplasmic regions, whereas the transmembrane regions remain unconnected., Published by Macmillan Publishers Limited, part of Springer Nature, [London]

Abstract

We report the discovery of a UHE gamma-ray source, LHAASO J2108+5157, by analyzing the LHAASO-KM2A data of 308.33 live days. Significant excess of gamma-ray induced showers is observed in both energy bands of 25-100 TeV and $\gt$100 TeV with 9.5 sigma and 8.5 sigma, respectively. This source is not significantly favored as an extensive source with the angular extension smaller than the point-spread function of KM2A. The measured energy spectrum from 20 to 200 TeV can be approximately described by a power-law function with an index of -2.83$\pm$ 0.18stat. A harder spectrum is demanded at lower energies considering the flux upper limit set by Fermi-LAT observations. The position of the gamma-ray emission is correlated with a giant molecular cloud, which favors a hadronic origin. No obvious counterparts have been found, deeper multiwavelength observations will help to shed new light on this intriguing UHE source., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures, accepted by ApJL

Abstract

Lithium plating-one of the critical processes in the desired high-energy lithium metal batteries-is accompanied by lithium whisker growth, which causes several problems that prevent the employment of metallic lithium anodes in rechargeable systems. They include low coulombic efficiency, electrolyte consumption, and the risk of short circuits, which can lead to thermal runaway of the battery. In recent years several strategies were suggested to mitigate whisker growth. The mechanism of this process, however, still lacks understanding. Here, we reveal the importance of surface diffusion along grain boundaries in solid lithium. We show that, at first, the plating of lithium onto a lithium substrate is possible as bulk crystal growth with a planar crystallization front for the Li grains with oblique (nonperpendicular to the surface) grain boundaries. Further, the developed compressive stress makes lithium diffusion to the grain base unfavorable, and new grains nucleate at the surface. The latter are the cause of the whisker growth from their roots. These findings indicate that the control of grain-boundary diffusion and grain size and structure paves the way to overcome the nonuniform morphology of plated lithium.

Abstract

Endometrium is the uterine lining that undergoes hundreds of cycles of proliferation, differentiation, and desquamation throughout a woman's reproductive life. Recently, much attention is paid to the appropriate endometrial functioning, as decreased endometrial receptivity is stated to be one of the concerns heavily influencing successes of embryo implantation rates and the efficacy of in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. In order to acquire and maintain the desired endometrial receptivity during IVF cycles, luteal phase support by various progestagens or other hormonal combinations is generally recommended. However, today, the selection of the specific hormonal therapy during IVF seems to be empirical, mainly due to a lack of appropriate tools for personalized approach. Here, we designed the genetic tool for patient-specific optimization of hormonal supplementation schemes required for the maintenance of endometrial receptivity during luteal phase. We optimized and characterized in vitro endometrial stromal cell (ESC) decidualization model as the adequate physiological reflection of endometrial sensitivity to steroid hormones. Based on the whole transcriptome RNA sequencing and the corresponding bioinformatics, we proposed that activation of the decidual prolactin (PRL) promoter containing ancient transposons MER20 and MER39 may reflect functioning of the core decidual regulatory network. Furthermore, we cloned the sequence of decidual PRL promoter containing MER20 and part of MER39 into the expression vector to estimate the effectiveness of ESC decidual response and verified sensitivity of the designed system. We additionally confirmed specificity of the generated tool using human diploid fibroblasts and adipose-derived human mesenchymal stem cells. Finally, we demonstrated the possibility to apply our tool for personalized hormone screening by comparing the effects of natural progesterone and three synthetic analogs (medroxyprogesterone 17-acetate, 17α-hydroxyprogesterone caproate, dydrogesterone) on decidualization of six ESC lines obtained from patients planning to undergo the IVF procedure. To sum up, we developed the “all-in-one” genetic tool based on the MER20/MER39 expression cassette that provides the ability to predict the most appropriate hormonal cocktail for endometrial receptivity maintenance specifically and safely for the patient, and thus to define the personal treatment strategy prior to the IVF procedure.

Abstract

In the modern international practice of liquefied petroleum gas supply to consumers, systems for propane-butane mixture regasification based on electric vaporizers of various steam capacity, which operate, in different modes of evaporation depending on the design, are widely used. Use of the continuous-flow evaporation mode when Froude numbers of the vapor-liquid flow is greater than 5,9×10 −3 ±20% provides a lower value of the average boiling point of the propane-butane mixture, as a result it increases the value of the temperature drop in the coolant-boiling mixture of propane-butane system and reduces the heat exchange surface and metal content in the industrial evaporator by 15-18% compared to the continuous-flow evaporation mode when Froude numbers of the vapor-liquid flow is less than 5,9×10 −3 ±20%. The proposed recommendations for saving electrical energy for the liquefied petroleum gas regasification with a low propane content due to the evaporation of the liquid phase in the ground flow heat exchanger to an intermediate dryness factor provide an average annual saving of electrical energy for regasification of 33,7%.

Abstract

Named reactions are key points in the development of chemistry. Any competent chemist easily identifies the reaction named after Wittig, or Grignard, Diels-Alder, or Friedel-Crafts, Michael, or Favorsky. But how much do we can say about scientist who discovered it? This Essay is devoted to the transition-metal-catalyzed hydration of acetylenic hydrocarbons discovered by Russian chemist Mikhail Kucherov. This reaction is one of the most straightforward methods for the synthesis of carbonyl compounds. With it, in industry for a long time acetaldehyde was essentially manufactured from accessible unsaturated raw material-acetylene. This reaction is one of the first steps in the establishment of homogenous metal complex catalysis in organic synthesis. Herein, we described the history of this discovery and the role of many scientists in the development of research in this field. We would also like to show the life of Russian scientists in the latter half of the 19th century.

Abstract

In contrast to non‐fluorinated α‐bromoenones their fluorinated analogs react with alkyl and arylmagnesium bromides leading to saturated CF3‐ketones as major reaction adducts. The regioselectivity of addition depends strongly on the nature of the Grignard reagent. The regioselectivity of addition of organomagnesium reagents to trifluoromethylated α‐bromoenones is reported. Alkyl and aryl Grignard reagents undergo 1,4‐ and/or 1,2‐addition but, in contrast to non‐fluorinated α‐bromoenones, the former direction is dominant for these fluorinated analogs. The high 1,4‐regioselectivity observed in most cases reflects the influence of the trifluoromethyl group on the direction of nucleophilic attack.

The analysis of an information capacity of the gyrocardiogram is carried out in comparison with elecrocardiography and seismocardiography signals. It is provided that the gyrocardiorgamm has properties of signals and so can be used for information analysis for noninvasive diagnostics of diseases of internal organs.

Abstract

The design and synthesis of a novel type of self-assembled ionic composite composed of negatively charged Zn(salen) complexes and triphenylmethane derived polycations is reported. These composites were applied as easily recyclable catalysts for carbon dioxide addition to epoxides. The composites functioned as bifunctional catalysts which could be easily separated and recycled by precipitation from the reaction mixture upon addition of tetrachloromethane. The same batch of the catalyst could be employed for, at least, five runs with its catalytic properties improving as it was reused. A fully heterogeneous system was also prepared by cross-linking leuco dye with para-dibromoxylene and adding to it calculated amounts of Zn(salen) complex. The heterogeneous system was catalytically competent in the reaction between styrene oxide and carbon dioxide and its activity also increased on its reuse.

Abstract

Presents the results of studies of innovative materials in the field of renewable energy.The paper proposes a design and a formula for assessing energy efficiency of the heat pump air dryer, which uses zeotropic hydrocarbon mixtures of saturated hydrocarbons as a working agent and applies the principle of a counter-current heat exchanger with a variable temperature of both the working and the drying agents. Energy efficiency of the heat pump is achieved by means of obtaining a greater part of heat from renewable energy sources, in this case by cooling the air and condensing the water vapors in the heat pump. A conducted analysis identified correlations in establishing the marginal real coefficient of performance of the compression heat pump dryer running on zeotropic hydrocarbon mixtures and operating a cycle with variable temperatures of both the working and the drying agent in the evaporator and the condenser of the heat pump. According to the established correlations, the marginal real coefficient of performance of the compression heat pump dryers running on zeotropic hydrocarbon mixtures of 40 mol% of R600a and 60 mol% of R601 is 1.92 times higher than that of the same dryers running on only R600 (n-butane).
