The top quark is the heaviest known elementary particle, with a mass about 40 times larger than the mass of its isospin partner, the bottom quark. It decays almost 100% of the time to a $W$ boson and a bottom quark. Using top-antitop pairs at the Tevatron proton-antiproton collider, the CDF and {\dzero} collaborations have measured the top quark's mass in different final states for integrated luminosities of up to 5.8 fb$^{-1}$. This paper reports on a combination of these measurements that results in a more precise value of the mass than any individual decay channel can provide. It describes the treatment of the systematic uncertainties and their correlations. The mass value determined is $173.18 \pm 0.56 \thinspace ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.75 \thinspace ({\rm syst})$ GeV or $173.18 \pm 0.94$ GeV, which has a precision of $\pm 0.54%$, making this the most precise determination of the top quark mass., Comment: 30 pages and 6 figures, published in Phys. High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
We present a measurement of the elastic differential cross section $d\sigma(p\bar{p}\rightarrow p\bar{p})/dt$ as a function of the four-momentum-transfer squared t. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $\approx 31 nb^{-1}$ collected with the D0 detector using dedicated Tevatron $p\bar{p} $ Collider operating conditions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV and covers the range $0.26 <|t|< 1.2 GeV^2$. For $|t|<0.6 GeV^2$, d\sigma/dt is described by an exponential function of the form $Ae^{-b|t|}$ with a slope parameter $ b = 16.86 \pm 0.10(stat) \pm 0.20(syst) GeV^{-2}$. A change in slope is observed at $|t| \approx 0.6 GeV^2$, followed by a more gradual |t| dependence with increasing values of |t|., Comment: 12 pages, 12 figures, 1 table, submitted to Phys. Rev. High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
We report the combination of recent measurements of the helicity of the W boson from top quark decay by the CDF and D0 collaborations, based on data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of 2.7 - 5.4 fb^-1 of ppbar collisions collected during Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Combining measurements that simultaneously determine the fractions of W bosons with longitudinal (f0) and right-handed (f+) helicities, we find f0 = 0.722 \pm 0.081 [\pm 0.062 (stat.) \pm 0.052 (syst.)] and f+ = -0.033 \pm 0.046 [\pm 0.034 (stat.) \pm 0.031 (syst.)]. Combining measurements where one of the helicity fractions is fixed to the value expected in the standard model, we find f0 = 0.682 \pm 0.057 [\pm 0.035 (stat.) \pm 0.046 (syst.)] and f+ = -0.015\pm0.035 [\pm 0.018 (stat.) \pm 0.030 (syst.)]. The results are consistent with standard model expectations., Comment: 11 pages, 1 figure, to be submitted to Phys. Rev D Rap. Comm

High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
We present a search for the pair production of scalar top quarks ($\tilde{t}_{1}$), the lightest supersymmetric partners of the top quarks, in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of {7.3 $fb^{-1}$} collected with the \dzero experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Each scalar top quark is assumed to decay into a $b$ quark, a charged lepton, and a scalar neutrino ($\tilde{\nu}$). We investigate final states arising from $\tilde{t}_{1} \bar{\tilde{t}_{1}} \rightarrow b\bar{b}\mu\tau \tilde{\nu} \tilde{\nu}$ and $\tilde{t}_{1} \bar{\tilde{t}_{1}} \rightarrow b\bar{b}\tau\tau \tilde{\nu} \tilde{\nu}$. With no significant excess of events observed above the background expected from the standard model, we set exclusion limits on this production process in the ($m_{\tilde{t}_{1}}$,$m_{\tilde{\nu}}$) plane., Comment: Submitted to Phys. High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
We measure the top quark mass (mt) in ppbar collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV using dilepton ttbar->W+bW-bbar->l+nubl-nubarbbar events, where l denotes an electron, a muon, or a tau that decays leptonically. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb-1 collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We obtain mt = 174.0 +- 1.8(stat) +- 2.4(syst) GeV, which is in agreement with the current world average mt = 173.3 +- 1.1 GeV. This is currently the most precise measurement of mt in the dilepton channel., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures

High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
We present a measurement of the helicity of the W boson produced in top quark decays using ttbar decays in the l+jets and dilepton final states selected from a sample of 5.4 fb^-1 of collisions recorded using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar collider. We measure the fractions of longitudinal and right-handed W bosons to be f_0 = 0.669 +- 0.102 [ +- 0.078 (stat.) +- 0.065 (syst.)] and f_+ = 0.023 +- 0.053 [+- 0.041 (stat.) +- 0.034 (syst.)], respectively. This result is consistent at the 98% level with the standard model. A measurement with f_0 fixed to the value from the standard model yields f_+ = 0.010 +- 0.037 [+- 0.022 (stat.) +- 0.030 (syst.) ]., Comment: To be submitted to Phys. Rev. D

High Energy Physics - Phenomenology - Abstract
In this paper we study events with W+jets final state, produced in double parton (DP) interactions, as a background to the associated Higgs boson (H) and W production, with H->bbar decay, at the Tevatron. We have found that the event yield from the DP background can be quite sizable, which necessitates a choice of selection criteria to separate the HW and DP production processes. We suggest a set of variables sensitive to the kinematics of DP and HW events. We show that these variables, being used as an input to the artificial neural network, allow one to significantly improve a sensitivity to the Higgs boson production., Comment: 13 pages, 11 figures

We demonstrate the application of graphene as a support for imaging individual biological molecules in transmission electron microscope (TEM). A simple procedure to produce free-standing graphene membranes has been designed. Such membranes are extremely robust and can support practically any sub-micrometer object. Tobacco mosaic virus has been deposited on graphene samples and observed in a TEM. High contrast has been achieved even though no staining has been applied.

High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
We report the result of a search for the pair production of the lightest supersymmetric partner of the top quark ($\tilde{t}_1$) in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb$^{-1}$. The scalar top quarks are assumed to decay into a $b$ quark, a charged lepton, and a scalar neutrino ($\tilde{\nu}$), and the search is performed in the electron plus muon final state. No significant excess of events above the standard model prediction is detected, and improved exclusion limits at the 95% C.L. are set in the the ($M_{\tilde{t}_1}$,$M_{\tilde{\nu}}$) mass plane.

High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
We extract the total width of the top quark, Gamma_t, from the partial decay width Gamma(t -> W b) measured using the t-channel cross section for single top quark production and from the branching fraction B(t -> W b) measured in ttbar events using up to 2.3 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 Collaboration at the Tevatron ppbar Collider. The result is Gamma_t = 1.99 +0.69 -0.55 GeV, which translates to a top-quark lifetime of tau_t = (3.3 +1.3 -0.9) x 10^-25 s. Assuming a high mass fourth generation b' quark and unitarity of the four-generation quark-mixing matrix, we set the first upper limit on |Vtb'| < 0.63 at 95% C.L., Comment: submitted to Phys. Rev. - Abstract
An aquatic robot is proposed that moves due to the motion of an internal flywheel. The body of the robot represents a trimaran that consists of a capsule and three floats rigidly attached to it. The floats are submerged into the water and ensure that the capsule is afloat. The horizontal cross-section of each float has the shape of an airfoil. The body moves in a horizontal plane. The rotation axis of the internal flywheel is vertical. The control system makes the flywheel to oscillate, which results in oscillations of the robot body together with the floats. It is known that, when an airfoil oscillates in pitch in fluid, a thrust force is produced. As a result, the center of mass of the body moves along a serpentine trajectory. The goal of the study is to describe the effect of geometrical parameters of the robot and coefficients of the control law on the average speed of propulsion. A quasi-steady model is used to describe the hydrodynamic forces acting upon the trimaran. In order to take into account non-steady effects, added masses are considered. This approach allows for describing the robot dynamics with the ODE system. Numerical simulation of the system behavior is performed. Attracting periodic solutions are found using the relaxation method. Parametric analysis of such solutions is performed. A laboratory model is manufactured, and a series of experiments is performed. It is shown theoretically and experimentally that the speed of propulsion of the robot depends non-monotonically on the control frequency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The major aspects of density regulation of the pacific salmons spawning are analyzed. Uncertainty of the ecological parameters considered traditionally as indicators of the salmons reproduction efficiency is discussed. If the method of the efficient spawning density is applied to the whole area of spawning grounds, without examination of conditions for spawning, false conclusions on optimum abundance of the spawners could be made. Clear criteria of the spawning grounds environments suitable for spawning are necessary for correct evaluation of the density factor for regulation the population abundance. Efficient escapement to the spawning grounds could be determined adequately by analysis of the reproduction curve. Critical analysis of tools for short- and long-term management of the salmon fishery is presented. Variants of compromise decisions for the multispecies fishery are discussed. The optimal escapement to the spawning grounds in not an absolute norm, but is a statistical parameter used for reaching the maximum production. Conflict between the strategies of saving the reproduction basis of salmon populations and the landing increase by fishing companies is demonstrated. Criteria and algorithm of short-term corrections of the salmon catches during the fishery campaign are provided. Major local units of the pacific salmon stocks in the Far East of Russia are outlined; biological parameters necessary for management of their exploitation are defined. Numbers of the spawners necessary for local and general support of spawning stocks for 5 commercial species of pacific salmons are evaluated to provide the most effective and sustainable natural reproduction of the stocks in the Russian part of the North Pacific.

The analysis of the Landsat 5 satellite data helped to study the processes of soil changes which took place from 1991 to 2011 inclusively at the test site located in the south-west of the Belgorod Region. As a result, it was found that despite intensive agricultural land use the proportion of soils, the properties of which have changed over the past 20 years, within the total area studied is quite small. The changes of soil erosion status were recorded within the territory of no more than 1 % of the total area; the territories characterized by soil humus losses on subhorizontal surfaces cover no more than 2 % of considered area. The most intensive process among the others is humus accumulation in the soil, the increase in humus content is noted on 5.6 % of the analyzed area. The identified tendencies in soil changes may be due to both the specifics of agricultural land use and climate changes.

The present article is to controvert the criticism in relation to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The purpose of the article is to contribute to the public discussion about the place of IFRS in the Russian financial accounting system. The article is divided into three parts: in the first part the author raises an issue of IFRS implementation in Russia. The second part is devoted to the importance of public debate of IFRS application and understanding in Russia. The author offers a very brief introduction to IFRS: key definitions and how to apply them. And the third part focuses directly on the IFRS weaknesses controversy. The emphasis here is made on the discussion of series of three articles by I. R. Sukharev and O. A. Sukhareva combined under the title “IFRS drawbacks”. The author does not agree with such a wording; he supports the uniformity of fundamentals and principles which result in comparability of financial statements worldwide. The article draws the attention to the previous negative experience and lack of modern strategic view that prevented the Russian professional accountancy community from creating up-to-date standards on their own

The finite element method of calculation of reinforced concrete slabs strengthened with composite fabrics based on carbon fibers, implemented in the PRINS program, is considered. The method is designed for analyzing the stress-strain state of reinforced concrete structures when cracks in concrete and plastic deformations in the reinforcement arise. The calculation is carried out in increments, and at each stage of loading a variable stiffness matrix is used. Its constant part represents the stiffness matrix at the beginning of the loading stage, and the variable one is calculated taking into account the stress-strain state at the end of the current iteration. The variable part of the stiffness matrix, multiplied by the displacement vector found at the previous iteration, is transferred to the right side of the equation system and is considered to be an additional load. When cracks occur or when plastic strains appear, the stresses are corrected in accordance with the specified deformation diagrams. Therefore, at the end of the loading step the equilibrium conditions are checked. If necessary, the external and internal forces are balanced. When considering plastic deformations in concrete and reinforcement, the theory of plastic flow and the Huber - Mises yield criterion, modified taking into account the experimental studies of Kupfer et al., are used. An example of the reinforced concrete slab analysis with different variants of strengthening by composite and without strengthening is given. The results of the calculation are analyzed. The possibility of studying the stress-strain state throughout the entire path of loading of reinforced concrete slabs up to destruction is shown.

- Abstract
The distribution, morphometric and population characteristics of the invasive species Lupinus polyphyllus Lindl. in Republic of Bashkortostan were analyzed. Twenty five localities of the species were identified and 11 invasive populations were examined in 5 districts of the republic. It has been shown that the main vector of L. polyphyllus invasion is the drift of the species from horticultural crops, and spontaneous species dispersal along the roads is less common. The density of L. polyphyllus plants in coenopopulations ranges from 4.3 to 14.5 ind./m2. The aboveground biomass of the species can reach 1 kg per 1 m2 or more. The proportion of the species in the community ranges from 55.1 to 88.8%; the species dominates in most communities. When introduced into meadow phytocenoses, it forms a derivative community of Lupinus polyphyllus [ Arrhenatheretalia elatioris ]. It has been established that the maximum values of the parameters are typical for populations growing in more favorable moisture conditions. The highest indicators of parameters were noted in the Bulat-Elga, Changakul coenopopulations, the minimum ones - in the Neftekamsk, Urazaevo coenopopulations. One generative shoot gives from 13 to 95 fruits and from 56 to 760 seeds, the total productivity of 1 plant reaches 4543 seeds. The vitality assessment has shown that four coenopopulations are prosperous, one coenopopulation is equilibrium, and six are depressed. An increase in the number of localities of L. polyphyllus in the Cis-Urals of Republic of Bashkortostan is predicted in the coming years.

Surfactants are commonly used in biopharmaceutical formulations to stabilize proteins against aggregation. However, the choice of a suitable surfactant for a particular protein is decided mostly empirically, and their mechanism of action on molecular level is largely unknown. Here we show that a straightforward label-free method, saturation transfer difference (STD) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, can be used to detect protein-surfactant interactions in formulations of a model protein, interferon alpha. We find that polysorbate 20 binds with its fatty acid to interferon, and that the binding is stronger at pH closer to the isoelectric point of the protein. In contrast, we did not detect interactions between poloxamer 407 and interferon alpha. Neither of the two surfactants affected the tertiary structure and the thermal stability of the protein as evident from circular dichroism and nanoDSF measurements. Interestingly, both surfactants inhibited the formation of subvisible particles during long-term storage, but only polysorbate 20 reduced the amount of small soluble aggregates detected by size-exclusion chromatography. This proof-of-principle study demonstrates how STD-NMR can be employed to quickly assess surfactant-protein interactions and support the choice of surfactant in protein formulation.

Subcutaneous injection of a low volume (100 mg/mL) formulation is an attractive administration strategy for monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and other biopharmaceutical proteins. Using concentrated solutions may also be beneficial at various stages of bioprocessing. However, concentrating proteins by conventional techniques, such as ultrafiltration, can be time consuming and challenging. Isolation of the dense fraction produced by macroscopic liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) has been suggested as a means to produce high-concentration solutions, but practicality of this method, and the stability of the resulting protein solution have not previously been demonstrated. In this proof-of-concept study, we demonstrate that LLPS can be used to concentrate a mAb solution to >170 mg/mL. We show that the structure of the mAb is not altered by LLPS, and unperturbed mAb is recoverable following dilution of the dense fraction, as judged by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Finally, we show that the physical properties and stability of a model high concentration protein formulation obtained from the dense fraction can be improved, for example through the addition of the excipient arginine·glutamate. This results in a stable high-concentration protein formulation with reduced viscosity and no further macroscopic LLPS. Concentrating mAb solutions by LLPS represents a simple and effective technique to progress toward producing high-concentration protein formulations for bioprocessing or administration.AbbreviationsArginine·glutamate (Arg·Glu), Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (CPMG), critical temperature (TC), high-performance size-exclusion chromatography (HPSEC), liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS), monoclonal antibody (mAb), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), transverse relaxation rate (R2)

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
The angular dependence of the tensor Ayy and vector Ay analyzing powers in the inelastic scattering of deuterons with a momentum of 9.0 GeV/c on hydrogen and carbon have been measured. The range of measurements corresponds to the baryonic resonance excitation with masses 2.2--2.6 GeV/c^2. The Ayy data being in good agreement with the previous results demonstrate an approximate $t$ scaling up to -1.5 (GeV/c)^2. The large values of A_y show a significant role of the spin-dependent part of the elementary amplitude of the NN->NN* reaction. The results of the experiment are compared with model predictions of the plane-wave impulse approximation., Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures. submitted to Yad.Fiz

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
An angular dependence of the tensor analyzing power of the breakup of polarized deuterons at 9 GeV/$c$ has been investigated. The measurements have been made on hydrogen and carbon targets at angles in the range from 85 to 160 mr. The data obtained are analyzed within the framework of the light-front dynamics using the deuteron wave functions for Paris and Bonn CD potentials, and the relativistic deuteron wave function by Karmanov et al. The experimental data are in rough agreement with calculations with the use of Karmanov's deuteron wave function., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, Talk given at the XVII-th International Baldin Seminar on High Energy Physics Problems, ISHEPP XVII, 27 September- 2 October 2004, Dubna, Russia

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
The Ayy data for deuteron inclusive breakup off hydrogen and carbon at a deuteron momentum of 9.0 GeV/c and large Pt of emitted protons are presented. The large values of Ayy independent of the target mass reflect the sensitivity of the data to the deuteron spin structure. The data obtained at fixed $x$ and plotted versus Pt clearly demonstrate the dependence of the deuteron spin structure at short internucleonic distances on two variables. The data are compared with the calculations using Paris, CD-Bonn and Karmanov's deuteron wave functions., Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, talk given at the SPIN2004 Conf., 10-16 Oct. 2004, Triest, Italy

We study electron acceleration in a plasma wakefield under the influence of the radiation-reaction force caused by the transverse betatron oscillations of the electron in the wakefield. Both the classical and the strong quantum-electrodynamic (QED) limits of the continuous radiation reaction are considered. For the constant accelerating force, we show that the amplitude of the oscillations of the QED parameter χ in the radiation-dominated regime reaches an equilibrium value determined only by the magnitude of the accelerating field, while the averaged over betatron oscillations radiation reaction force saturates at a value smaller than the accelerating force and thus is incapable of stopping acceleration. We find the parameters of the electron bunch and the plasma accelerator for which reaching such a regime is possible. We also study effects of the dephasing and the corresponding change of the accelerating force over the course of acceleration and conclude that the radiation-dominated regime is realized both in cases of single-stage acceleration with slow dephasing (usually corresponding to bunch-driven plasma accelerators) and multi-stage acceleration with fast dephasing (corresponding to the use of laser-driven accelerators).

BACKGROUND: Risks of most types of leukemia from exposure to acute high doses of ionizing radiation are well known, but risks associated with protracted exposures, as well as associations between radiation and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), are not clear. OBJECTIVES: We estimated relative risks of CLL and non-CLL from protracted exposures to low-dose ionizing radiation. METHODS: A nested case-control study was conducted in a cohort of 110,645 Ukrainian cleanup workers of the 1986 Chornobyl nuclear power plant accident. Cases of incident leukemia diagnosed in 1986-2006 were confirmed by a panel of expert hematologists/hematopathologists. Controls were matched to cases on place of residence and year of birth. We estimated individual bone marrow radiation doses by the Realistic Analytical Dose Reconstruction with Uncertainty Estimation (RADRUE) method. We then used a conditional logistic regression model to estimate excess relative risk of leukemia per gray (ERR/Gy) of radiation dose. RESULTS: We found a significant linear dose response for all leukemia [137 cases, ERR/Gy = 1.26 (95% CI: 0.03, 3.58]. There were nonsignificant positive dose responses for both CLL and non-CLL (ERR/Gy = 0.76 and 1.87, respectively). In our primary analysis excluding 20 cases with direct in-person interviews < 2 years from start of chemotherapy with an anomalous finding of ERR/Gy = -0.47 (95% CI: < -0.47, 1.02), the ERR/Gy for the remaining 117 cases was 2.38 (95% CI: 0.49, 5.87). For CLL, the ERR/Gy was 2.58 (95% CI: 0.02, 8.43), and for non-CLL, ERR/Gy was 2.21 (95% CI: 0.05, 7.61). Altogether, 16% of leukemia cases (18% of CLL, 15% of non-CLL) were attributed to radiation exposure. CONCLUSIONS: Exposure to low doses and to low dose-rates of radiation from post-Chornobyl cleanup work was associated with a significant increase in risk of leukemia, which was statistically consistent with estimates for the Japanese atomic bomb survivors. Based on the primary analysis, we conclude that CLL and non-CLL are both radiosensitive.

General Medicine - Abstract
Introduction. The integration of special acoustic means into the safety system makes it relevant to conduct biomedical research to evaluate the impact of their effects on the hearing organs. Objective. To study the characteristics of a special sound signal and its effect on the hearing organ of an experimental biological model. Materials and methods. The study was conducted on 6 males (12 ears) guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus) weighing 200–250 grams at the age of 4 weeks. A set of special audio equipment was used to generate an acoustic signal. The study was conducted in a room with an area of about 47 m2. The time of a single exposure to experimental animals was 3 minutes at a sound level of 127–128 dBA. Before exposure and at different times after exposure (after 24 and 72 hours), the otoscopic picture was evaluated, a Preyer’s reflex and distortion-product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) was carried out. Results. The special sound signal was characterized by distinct frequency components and can be attributed to tonal noises. After acoustic exposure to a special sound signal, a normal otoscopic picture was observed in experimental animals. Restoration of the Preyer’s reflex occurred 24 hours after exposure. The restoration of the DPOAEs to background values at frequencies from 1.5 to 3.3 kHz occurred 24 hours after acoustic exposure, at a frequency of 4.2 kHz there was a significant tendency to recovery. Conclusions. With a short-term (within three minutes) single exposure to a special sound signal with a sound level of 127 to 128 dBA on biological models (guinea pigs), no pathology of the hearing organ was detected. Given the greater resistance of humans to acoustic effects, compared to guinea pigs, this can equally be extended to humans.

General Medicine - Abstract
The developing resistance of microorganisms to the effects of antibacterial drugs creates difficulties in the treatment of purulent diseases. This is especially reasonable in the pandemic of a new coronavirus infection (COVID-19). The aggressive effect of new strains of the virus on the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity and nasopharynx contributes to the occurrence of complications such as acute purulent otitis media and exacerbation of chronic purulent otitis, both during coronavirusinfection and in the postcovid period. Even before the start of the pandemic, antibiotic resistance was already one of the big problems in most countries of the world, this was due to the frequent unjustified appointment of systemic antibacterial agents for viral infection, as well as uncontrolled self-medication of the population with all available drugs. Due to the fear of people getting sick with COVID-19 and disagreements among doctors in treatment tactics, the use of systemic antibiotics and hormonal drugs increased already in the first months of the pandemic. In the future, the unjustifiability of this tactic was proved, but many doctors continued to prescribe several systemic antibacterial drugs to patients with uncomplicated viral infection. Under the current conditions, when there is evidence of bacterial infection, it is rational to use local antibacterial drugs, which allows you to quickly reach high concentrations in the focus of inflammation and avoid side effects of systemic antibiotics. Among the existing means in the complex therapy of perforated otitis, a special place belongs to the preparations of the group of quinoxaline derivatives, which include hydroxymethylquinoxalindioxide (Dioxidine). The advantage of the drug is its effectiveness against resistant microorganisms, as well as stimulation of marginal tissue regeneration. This property is especially important in the treatment of perforated otitis media.
