With an X-ray stacking analysis of ~ 12, 000 Lyman-break galaxies (LBGs) using the Chandra Legacy Survey image, we investigate average supermassive black hole (SMBH) accretion properties of star-forming galaxies (SFGs) at 4 <~ z <~ 7. Although no X-ray signal is detected in any stacked image, we obtain strong 3 sigma upper limits for the average black hole accretion rate (BHAR) as a function of star formation rate (SFR). At z ~ 4 (5) where the stacked image is deeper, the 3 sigma BHAR upper limits per SFR are ~ 1.5 (1.0) dex lower than the local black hole-to-stellar mass ratio, indicating that the SMBHs of SFGs in the inactive (BHAR <~1M_sun yr^{-1}) phase are growing much more slowly than expected from simultaneous evolution. We obtain a similar result for BHAR per dark halo accretion rate. QSOs from the literature are found to have ~ 1 dex higher SFRs and >~ 2 dex higher BHARs than LBGs with the same dark halo mass. We also make a similar comparison for dusty starburst galaxies and quiescent galaxies from the literature. A duty-cycle corrected analysis shows that for a given dark halo, the SMBH mass increase in the QSO phase dominates over that in the much longer inactive phase. Finally, a comparison with the TNG300, TNG100, SIMBA100, and EAGLE100 simulations finds that they overshoot our BHAR upper limits by <~ 1.5 dex, possibly implying that simulated SMBHs are too massive., Comment: 16 pages, 11 figures, 3 tables. Two generic properties of the Neumann--Poincar\'e operator are investigated. We prove that non-zero eigenvalues of the Neumann--Poincar\'e operator on smooth boundaries in three dimensions and higher are generically simple in the sense of Baire category. We also prove that the functions defined by the fundamental solutions to the Laplace operator located at points outside the surface are generically cyclic vectors in the sense that the collection of those points where the functions are not cyclic vectors is of measure zero., Comment: 15 pages

$\textbf{Background and aims}$: Artificial Intelligence (AI) Computer-Aided Detection (CADe) is commonly used for polyp detection, but data seen in clinical settings can differ from model training. Few studies evaluate how well CADe detectors perform on colonoscopies from countries not seen during training, and none are able to evaluate performance without collecting expensive and time-intensive labels. $\textbf{Methods}$: We trained a CADe polyp detector on Israeli colonoscopy videos (5004 videos, 1106 hours) and evaluated on Japanese videos (354 videos, 128 hours) by measuring the True Positive Rate (TPR) versus false alarms per minute (FAPM). We introduce a colonoscopy dissimilarity measure called "MAsked mediCal Embedding Distance" (MACE) to quantify differences between colonoscopies, without labels. We evaluated CADe on all Japan videos and on those with the highest MACE. $\textbf{Results}$: MACE correctly quantifies that narrow-band imaging (NBI) and chromoendoscopy (CE) frames are less similar to Israel data than Japan whitelight (bootstrapped z-test, |z| > 690, p < $10^{-8}$ for both). Despite differences in the data, CADe performance on Japan colonoscopies was non-inferior to Israel ones without additional training (TPR at 0.5 FAPM: 0.957 and 0.972 for Israel and Japan; TPR at 1.0 FAPM: 0.972 and 0.989 for Israel and Japan; superiority test t > 45.2, p < $10^{-8}$). Despite not being trained on NBI or CE, TPR on those subsets were non-inferior to Japan overall (non-inferiority test t > 47.3, p < $10^{-8}$, $\delta$ = 1.5% for both). $\textbf{Conclusion}$: Differences that prevent CADe detectors from performing well in non-medical settings do not degrade the performance of our AI CADe polyp detector when applied to data from a new country. MACE can help medical AI models internationalize by identifying the most "dissimilar" data on which to evaluate models.

To address the 'memory wall' problem in NN hardware acceleration, we introduce HALO-CAT, a software-hardware co-design optimized for Hidden Neural Network (HNN) processing. HALO-CAT integrates Layer-Penetrative Tiling (LPT) for algorithmic efficiency, reducing intermediate result sizes. Furthermore, the architecture employs an activation-localized computing-in-memory approach to minimize data movement. This design significantly enhances energy efficiency, achieving a 14.2x reduction in activation memory capacity and a 17.8x decrease in energy consumption, with only a 1.5% loss in accuracy, compared to traditional HNN processors.

Following Robert's [23], we study the structure of unitary groups and groups of approximately inner automorphisms of unital $C^*$-algebras, taking advantage of the former being Banach-Lie groups. For a given unital $C^*$-algebra $A$, we provide a description of the closed normal subgroup structure of the connected component of the identity of the unitary group, denoted by $U_A$, resp. of the subgroup of approximately inner automorphisms induced by the connected component of the identity of the unitary group, denoted by $V_A$, in terms of perfect ideals, i.e. ideals admitting no characters. When the unital algebra is locally AF, we show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between closed normal subgroups of $V_A$ and perfect ideals of the algebra, which can be in the separable case conviniently described using Bratteli diagrams; in particular showing that every closed normal subgroup of $V_A$ is perfect. We also characterize unital $C^*$-algebras $A$ such that $U_A$, resp. $V_A$ are topologically simple, generalizing the main results from [23]. In the other way round, under certain conditions, we characterize simplicity of the algebra in terms of the structure of the unitary group. This in particular applies to reduced group $C^*$-algebras of discrete groups and we show that when $A$ is a reduced group $C^*$-algebra of a non-amenable countable discrete group, then $A$ is simple if and only if $U_A/\mathbb{T}$ is topologically simple., Comment: 19 pages

Mobile robots in dynamic environments require fast planning, especially when onboard computational resources are limited. While classic potential field based algorithms may suffice in simple scenarios, in most cases algorithms able to escape local minima are necessary. Configuration-space search algorithms have proven to provide a good trade-off between quality of the solutions and search time. Literature presents a wide variety of approaches that speed up this search by reducing the number of edges that need to be inspected. Much less attention was instead given to reducing the time necessary to evaluate the cost of a single edge. This paper addresses this point by associating edges to motion primitives that prioritize fast collision detection. We show how biarcs can be used as motion primitives that enable fast collision detection, while still providing smooth, tangent continuous paths. The proposed approach does not assume a disc shaped hitbox, making it appealing for all robots with very different width and length or for differential drive robots with active wheels located far from the robot's center.

We present the discoveries of two giant planets orbiting the red giant branch (RGB) star HD 112570 and the red clump (RC) star HD 154391, based on the radial velocity (RV) measurements from Xinglong station and Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO). Spectroscopic and asteroseismic analyses suggest that HD 112570 has a mass of $1.15\pm0.12\,M_{\odot}$, a radius of $9.85\pm0.23\,R_{\odot}$, a metallicity [Fe/H] of $-0.46\pm0.1$ and a ${\rm log}\,g$ of $2.47\pm0.1$. With the joint analysis of RV and Hipparcos-Gaia astrometry, we obtain a dynamical mass of $M_{\rm p}={3.42}_{-0.84}^{+1.4}\ M_{\rm Jup}$, a period of $P={2615}_{-77}^{+85}$ days and a moderate eccentricity of $e={0.20}_{-0.14}^{+0.16}$ for the Jovian planet HD 112570 b. For HD 154391, it has a mass of $2.07\pm0.03\,M_{\odot}$, a radius of $8.56\pm0.05\,R_{\odot}$, a metallicity [Fe/H] of $0.07\pm0.1$ and a ${\rm log}\,g$ of $2.86\pm0.1$. The super-Jupiter HD 154391 b has a mass of $M_{\rm p}={9.1}_{-1.9}^{+2.8}\ M_{\rm Jup}$, a period of $P={5163}_{-57}^{+60}$ days and an eccentricity of $e={0.20}_{-0.04}^{+0.04}$. We found HD 154391 b has one of the longest orbital period among those ever discovered orbiting evolved stars, which may provide a valuable case in our understanding of planetary formation at wider orbits. Moreover, while a mass gap at $4\,M_{\rm Jup}$ seems to be present in the population of giant stars, there appears to be no significant differences in the distribution of metallicity among giant planets with masses above or below this threshold. The proximity effect at a highly transparent interface of an s-wave superconductor (S) and a topological insulator (TI) provides a promising platform to create Majorana zero modes in artificially designed heterostructures. However, structural and chemical issues pertinent to such interfaces are poorly explored so far. Here, we report the discovery of Pd diffusion induced polarization at interfaces between superconductive Pd$_{1+x}$(Bi$_{0.4}$Te$_{0.6}$)$_2$ (xPBT, $0\le x \le 1$) and Pd-intercalated Bi$_2$Te$_3$ by using atomic-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy. Our quantitative image analysis reveals that nanoscale lattice strain and QL polarity synergistically suppress and promote the Pd diffusion at the normal and parallel interfaces, formed between Te-Pd-Bi triple layers (TLs) and Te-Bi-Te-Bi-Te quintuple layers (QLs), respectively. Further, our first-principles calculations unveil that the superconductivity of xPBT phase and topological nature of Pd-intercalated Bi$_2$Te$_3$ phase are robust against the broken inversion symmetry. These findings point out the necessity of considering coexistence of electric polarization with superconductivity and topology in such S-TI systems.

Asymptotic normalization coefficients (ANCs) of the $0_1^+$, $0_2^+$, $1_1^-$, $2_1^+$, $3_1^-$ ($l_{i th}^\pi$) bound states of $^{16}$O are deduced from the phase shift data of elastic $\alpha$-$^{12}$C scattering at low energies. $S$ matrices of elastic $\alpha$-$^{12}$C scattering are constructed within cluster effective field theory (EFT), in which both bound and resonant states of $^{16}$O are considered. Parameters in the $S$ matrices are fitted to the precise phase shift data below the $p$-$^{15}$N breakup energy for the partial waves of $l=0,1,2,3,4,5,6$, and the ANCs are calculated by using the wave function normalization factors of $^{16}$O propagators for $l=0,1,2,3$. Antiferromagnetic (AF) topological materials offer a fertile ground to explore a variety of quantum phenomena such as axion magnetoelectric dynamics and chiral Majorana fermions. To realize such intriguing states, it is essential to establish a direct link between electronic states and topology in the AF phase, whereas this has been challenging because of the lack of a suitable materials platform. Here we report the experimental realization of the AF topological-insulator phase in NdBi. By using micro-focused angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we discovered contrasting surface electronic states for two types of AF domains; the surface having the out-of-plane component in the AF-ordering vector displays Dirac-cone states with a gigantic energy gap, whereas the surface parallel to the AF-ordering vector hosts gapless Dirac states despite the time-reversal-symmetry breaking. The present results establish an essential role of combined symmetry to protect massless Dirac fermions under the presence of AF order and widen opportunities to realize exotic phenomena utilizing AF topological materials., Comment: 28 pages, 12 figures

Screening is critical for prevention and early detection of cervical cancer but it is time-consuming and laborious. Supervised deep convolutional neural networks have been developed to automate pap smear screening and the results are promising. However, the interest in using only normal samples to train deep neural networks has increased owing to class imbalance problems and high-labeling costs that are both prevalent in healthcare. In this study, we introduce a method to learn explainable deep cervical cell representations for pap smear cytology images based on one class classification using variational autoencoders. Findings demonstrate that a score can be calculated for cell abnormality without training models with abnormal samples and localize abnormality to interpret our results with a novel metric based on absolute difference in cross entropy in agglomerative clustering. The best model that discriminates squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) from normals gives 0.908 +- 0.003 area under operating characteristic curve (AUC) and one that discriminates high-grade epithelial lesion (HSIL) 0.920 +- 0.002 AUC. Compared to other clustering methods, our method enhances the V-measure and yields higher homogeneity scores, which more effectively isolate different abnormality regions, aiding in the interpretation of our results. Structural fluctuations and dynamic cross-correlations in the mouse eugenol olfactory receptor (Olfr73) were studied by molecular dynamics (MD) simulation to characterize the dynamic response of the protein upon ligand binding. The initial structure was generated by the artificial intelligence tool AlfaFold2 due to the current lack of experimental data. We focused on the hydrogen (H) bond of the odorant eugenol to Ser113, Asn207, and Tyr260 of the receptor protein, the importance of which has been suggested by previous experimental studies. The H-bond was not observed in docking simulations, but in subsequent MD simulations the H-bond to Ser113 was formed in 2--4 ns. The lifetime of the H-bond was in the range of 1--20 ns. On the trajectory with the most stable (20 ns) H-bond, the structural fluctuation of the $\alpha$-carbon atoms of the receptor main chain was studied by calculating the root mean square fluctuations, the dynamic cross-correlation map, and the time-dependent dynamic cross-correlation. The analysis suggested a correlation transfer pathway Ser113 $\to$ Phe182 $\to$ (Leu259 or Tyr260) $\to$ Tyr291 induced by the ligand binding with a time scale of 4--6 ns., Comment: 6 pages, 8 figures

We incorporate closed string field into Kaku's open string field theory which is defined by using Kaku vertex, and we construct open-closed string field theory. To do this, we define new consistent open-closed vertex and open-open-closed vertex with the Kaku vertex. Because these vertices depend on Chan-Paton parameter such as the Kaku vertex, the open-closed string field theory action that we construct depends on the Chan-Paton parameter such as the Kaku's theory action. However, we can show that an infinitesimal change of $l$ corresponds to a field redefinition. Furthermore, we compute closed string amplitudes around tachyon vacuum solution in this theory. As a result, we confirm that these are conventional pure closed string amplitudes on surfaces without boundaries., Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures

A transverse thermoelectric generator for magnetic-field-free and high-density power generation utilizing the anomalous Nernst effect is constructed and its performance is characterized. By alternately stacking two different permanent magnets with the large coercivity and anomalous Nernst coefficients of opposite sign, transverse thermoelectric voltage and power can be generated in the absence of external magnetic fields and enhanced owing to a thermopile structure without useless electrode layers. In the permanent-magnet-based stack, the magnetic attractive force enables easy construction of the thermopile structure with a high fill factor. In this study, we construct a bulk module consisting of twelve pairs of SmCo$_5$- and Nd$_2$Fe$_{14}$B-type permanent magnets with respectively having the positive and negative anomalous Nernst coefficients, whose fill factor reaches ~80%, whereas that of conventional thermoelectric modules based on the Seebeck effect is typically 30-60%. We demonstrate magnetic-field-free anomalous Nernst power generation up to 177 $\mu$W at a temperature difference of 75 K around room temperature, which corresponds to the largest anomalous Nernst power density of 65 $\mu$W/cm$^2$. Tungsten diselenide, WSe2 shows excellent properties and become very promising material among two dimensional semiconductors. Wide band gap and large spin-orbit coupling along with naturally lacking inversion symmetry in the monolayer WSe2 make it efficient material for spintronics, optoelectronics and valleytronics applications. In this work, we report electrical transport properties of monolayer WSe2 based field effect transistor with most needed multilayer Co/Pt ferromagnetic electrodes exhibiting perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. We studied contacts behaviour by performing I-V curve measurements and estimating Schottky barrier heights (SBHs). SBHs estimated from experimental data are found to be comparatively small, without using any tunnel barrier. This work expands the current understanding of WSe2 based devices and gives insight into the electrical behaviour of Co/Pt metal contacts, which can open great possibilities for spintronic/valleytronic applications., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures
