Bu çalışmanın amacı Akgiritotu'nun farmakolojik ve toksikolojik etkilerini araştırmaktır. Yaprak ve meyvalarmdan hazırlanan sulu ekstreler kobay derisi üzerinde 2,4-dinitrobenzen ile karşılaştırmalı olarak test edilmiştir. Ekstrelerin injekte edildiği kobay derisi üzerinde hislopatolojik inceleme yapıldığında mast hücrelerinde herhangi bir değişim gözlenmemiş, ancak hipodermisle eksudatif inflamasyon ve polimorfonükleer lökosit infiltrasyonu dikkat çekmiştir. Ayrıca ödem oluşturucu etkinlikleri sıçan pençe deneyinde de test edilmiş ve sözkonusu etkiler formalin ile oluşturulan etkiler ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Kobaylarda in vivo bronşiyal tonüs/kan basıncı ve izole ileum deneyleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Sözkonusu bu bitkiden hazırlanan sulu ekstrelerin doza bağımlı olmayan bronkokonstriksiyon ve hipotansiyona neden olduğu bulunmuştur. Ekstreler izole kobay İleumunda klorpromazin, ketotifen ve deksametazon ile önlenemeyen ve konsantrasyona bağımlı olan kasılmalar oluşturmuşlardır. D. albus ekstrelerininfarelerde "Tail-Clip" deneylerinde ağrı eşiği üzerinde anlamlı bir etkisi olmamıştır. Ekstrelerin santral sinir sistemi üzerideki etkileri farelerde yüzme dayanıklılık testi ve gözlemsel tarama yardımı ile sınanmıştır. Burada sedatif etki gözlenmiştir. D. albus'tan hazırlanan sulu ekstrelerin akut fazlı inflamatuvar bir yanıta neden olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır., Purpose of the present study was to investigate pharmacological and toxicological effects of gas plant. Aqueous extracts prepared from its leaves and fruits were tested on the guinea-pig skin by comparing with 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene. When histopathological examination was made on guinea-pig skin injected with the extracts, there was no change observed in mast cells, but acute exudative inflammation and infiltration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes were noticed in the hypodermis. Their edema forming activities were also tested in the rat paw experiment and their effects were compared to those induced by formalin. In vivo bronchial tone/blood pressure and isolated ileum experiments in guinea-pigs were performed. Aqueous extracts prepared from this plant were found to cause bronchoconstriction and hypotension, which were not dose-dependent. They also elicited concentration-dependent contractions of the isolated guinea-pig ileum, which were not abolished by chlorpheniramine, ketotifen and dexamethasone. D. albus extracts had no significant effect on the mouse pain threshold in "Tail-clip" experiments. Their effects on the central nervous system were examined by using swimming endurance test and observational screening on mice. In this case, a sedative activity was observed. It was concluded that aqueous macerates from leaves and fruits of D. albus causes an acute phase inflammatory response.

Amaç: Anksiyete bozukluğu çocukluk çağında sık görülmesine karşın anksiyete bozukluğunun nasıl ortaya çıktığına yönelik bilgiler halen sınırlıdır. Bu çalışmada anksiyete bozukluğu olan çocukların duygu düzenleme becerileri ve anksiyete şiddetinin, annenin bağlanması, anksiyete duyarlılığı ve duygu düzenleme becerileri ile ilişkisini değerlendirmek ve sağlıklı kontroller ile karşılaştırmak amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Çalışmaya 8-12 yaşları arasında 64 anksiyete bozukluğu olan olgu ve annesi ile anksiyete bozukluğu grubu ile yaş ve cinsiyet olarak benzer 78 sağlıklı çocuk ve annesi katılmıştır. Çocuklarda anksiyete bozukluğunun şiddetini ölçmek için Çocuklarda Anksiyete Tarama Ölçeği (ÇATÖ), çocukların duygularını düzenlemesini değerlendirmek için Duygu Ayarlama Ölçeği (DAÖ) kullanılmıştır. Annelerin duygularını düzenlemesini değerlendirmek için Duygu Düzenleme Güçlüğü Ölçeği (DDGÖ), annelerin yaşadığı anksiyete için Anksiyete Duyarlılığı İndeksi-3 (ADİ-3) ve annelerin bağlanma özellikleri için Yakın İlişkide Yaşantılar Ölçeği-II kullanılmıştır. Sonuçlar: ÇATÖ anne-baba formu ve çocuk formu puanları ile ADİ-3, DAÖ alt ölçekleri ve DDGÖ toplam puanı Pearson korelasyon analizi ile karşılaştırılmıştır. ÇATÖ anne-baba formu ve çocuk formu puanları ile DAÖ'nün duygusal değişkenlik puanları, ADİ-3 ölçeğinin sosyal, bilişsel, fiziksel anksiyete, annelerin kaygılı bağlanma ve duygu düzenleme ölçeği puanları arasında pozitif korelasyon ve DAÖ'nün duygu düzenleme puanları arasında negatif korelasyon saptanmıştır. Annelerin kaçıngan bağlanması ile ÇATÖ anne-baba formu ve çocuk formu puanları arasında ilişki saptanmamıştır. Tartışma: Bu çalışma anksiyete bozukluğu olan çocukların yaşadığı duygu düzenleme güçlüklerinin annelerin duygu düzenleme güçlükleri ve annelerin bağlanma özellikleri ile ilişkisini değerlendiren ilk çalışmadır. Anksiyete bozukluğu olan çocukların duygu düzenleme güçlüklerine uygulanabilinecek bilişsel ve davranışçı yöntemlere tedavide daha fazla yer verilmesi ile duygu düzenleme becerileri gelişen çocukların anksiyete belirtileri azalabilir. Objective: The information about the etiology of anxiety disorders are still limited however anxiety disorders are prevalent disorders in childhood. In this study it is aimed to evaluate the relation of emotion regulation and anxiety level of children diagnosed with anxiety disorder with attachment and emotion regulation in the children's mother and it is also aimed to compare the results with healthy controls. Methods: The study group consisted of 64 children 370 Anksiyete bozukluğu olan çocuklarda duygu düzenlemenin annelerinin duygu ... (8-12 years old) diagnosed with anxiety disorder and their mothers. The control group (78 children and mothers) comprised patients of other clinics at hospital and was matched for gender and age to the anxious patients. We evaluated disorder severity at the time of assessment using the Screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED). Emotional Regulation Checklist (ERC) was used to examine children emotional regulation. Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) was used to indicate maternal emotional dysregulation status, Anxiety Sensitivity Index-3 (ASI-3) was used for anxiety sensitivity in mothers and Experiences in Close Relationship ScaleII was used to evaluate attachment properties in mothers. Results: SCARED child and parent form scores were compared with anxiety sensitivity index, ERC subscales, DERS and ASI with Pearson's correlation analysis. Positive correlation was found between SCARED child, parent form scores and ERC emotional lability scores, social, physical, cognitive anxiety scores of ASI, maternal anxious attachment and DERS scores and negative correlation was found between SCARED child, parent form scores and ERC emotional regulation scores. There was no relation between SCARED child, parent form scores and maternal avoidant attachment. Conclusion: This is the first study which evaluated the relationship of emotion regulation difficulties of children, who are diagnosed with anxiety disorder, and maternal attachment properties and maternal emotion regulation. The anxiety symptoms may decrease with using cognitive behavioral methods in emotion regulation difficulties of children diagnosed with anxiety disorder.

Giriş: Otizm spektrum bozukluğu (OSB) sıklığı yıllar içinde giderek artmakta ve tedavisi giderek daha önem kazanmaktadır. Bu çalışmadaki amaç terapötik ata binme aktivitelerinin OSB'li çocuklarda otizm belirtileri ve yaşam kalitesi üzerine etkilerini incelemek amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: OSB'li 24 çocuk randomize edilerek bir gruba terapötik ata binme aktiviteleri uygulanırken, diğer gruba özel eğitim ve aylık düzenli çocuk psikiyatri kontrolleri dışında herhangi bir eğitim veya tedavi uygulanmamıştır. Çocuklara 8 hafta boyunca haftada 1 saat terapötik ata binme eğitimi verilmiştir. Eğitim öncesi ve sonrasında yaşam kalitesi ölçümü için Çocuklar İçin Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği (ÇİYKÖ) kullanılırken, otistik belirtileri Otizm Davranış Kontrol Listesi (ODKL) ile değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuçlar: İki grup arasında terapötik ata binme aktivitelerinin başlangıcında yaşam kalitesi ve otizm belirtileri açısından farklılık bulunmamıştır. Terapötik ata binme aktivitesine katılan çocukların katılmayan çocuklar ile 8 hafta sonunda değerlendirildiğinde fiziksel yaşam kalitesi puanlarında ve ODKL ilişki kurma alt ölçeğinde istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı farklılık sağlanırken, ÇİYKÖ ve otizm davranış kontrol listesinin diğer alt ölçeklerinde iki grup arasında istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı farklılık bulunmamıştır. Terapötik ata binme aktivitesine katılan çocuklar başlangıç ve aktivite sonrası değerlendirildiğinde de ÇİYKÖ fiziksel, duygusal ve psikososyal puanları arasında ve ODKL'nin duyusal, ilişki kurma, beden ve nesne kullanımı, dil becerileri, sosyal ve öz bakım becerileri ve toplam otizm davranış kontrol listesi puanı açısından istatistiksel açıdan farklılık bulunmuştur. Tartışma: OSB'li çocukların terapötik ata binme aktivitelerinden sonra hem fiziksel, hem de psikososyal boyutta olumlu yönde geliştiklerini ve OSB'nin şiddetinin bir miktar azaldığını göstermektedir. Bu sonuç, literatürdeki diğer çalışma sonuçları ile paralellik göstermektedir. Terapötik ata binme aktivitelerinin OSB'li çocuklarda birincil tedavi olmasa da alternatif rehabilitasyon olarak kullanılabilceğini düşündürmektedir. Objective: The prevalance of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is increasing over the years and treatment is becoming more important. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of therapeutic horseback riding for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder on the quality of life and autistic symptoms. Methods: Twentyfour children with ASD were randomized into one group to perform therapeutic horse-riding activities while the other group did not receive any education or treatment except special education and regular child psychiatric control monthly. Children have been trained in therapeutic horseback riding for 1 hour a week for 8 weeks. Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) was used for the measurement of quality of life, while autistic symptoms were assessed with the Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC) before and after the training. Results: Statistically significant differences were not found in the quality of life or autism symptoms between the two groups at the beginning of the therapeutic horse-riding activities. There were statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of physical life quality scores and ABC relationship subscale while there were not statistically significant other subscales of the PedsQL and ABC at the end of 8 weeks. When children participating in therapeutic horse-riding activity were assessed before and after activity, statistically significant differences were found in physical, emotional, and psychosocial scores of the PedsQL and the sensory, relationship building, body and object use, language skills, social and self-care skills of ABC. Discussion: It was shown that children who are diagnosed with ASD developed positively in both physical and psychosocial dimension and the severity of ASD decreased after therapeutic horse-riding activities. This results show parallelism with other studies in the current literature. It was suggested that therapeutic horse-riding activities in children diagnosed with ASD could be used as an alternative rehabilitation, even if they were not primer-treatment.

Bu araştırma sürecinde lise öğrencilerinin dindarlık özellikleri ile öznel iyi oluş durumları arasındaki ilişkiler çeşitli değişkenlere göre incelenmiştir. Bu kapsamda Samsun ili Çarşamba ilçesinde liselerde öğrenim görmekte olan toplam 540 öğrenciye ulaşılarak araştırma sürecinde kullanılan veri toplama araçları uygulanmıştır. Araştırma sürecinde toplanan verilerin veri analizine uygunluğunu belirlemek için normallik testleri yapılmış ve veri setlerinin parametrik nitelik taşıdığı belirlenmiştir. Bu kapsamda araştırma sürecinde veri analizi için t testi, varyans analizi, korelasyon analizi ve regresyon analizi uygulanmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre lise öğrencilerinin dindarlık puanlarının cinsiyet ve anne baba tutumlarına göre anlamlı farklılaşma göstermediği bulunmuştur. Buna karşın lise öğrencilerinin dindarlık puanlarının yaş değişkenine göre bilgi ve duygu alt boyutunda anlamlı farklılaşma gösterdiği, ailenin gelir düzeyine, duygu ve etki alt boyutlarında anlamlı farklılaşma gösterdiği, herhangi bir dini gruba ait olma değişkenine göre ibadet, bilgi ve duygu alt boyutlarında anlamlı farklılaşma olduğu, dini yayınları takip etme değişkenine göre sadece etki alt boyutunda anlamlı farklılaşma olduğu, anne eğitim düzeyi değişkenine göre inanç, bilgi, duygu ve etki alt boyutlarında anlamlı farklılaşma olduğu, baba eğitim düzeyi değişkenine göre bilgi ve duygu alt boyutlarında anlamlı farklılaşma olduğu bulunmuştur. Ayrıca, lise öğrencilerinde dindarlık ile öznel iyi oluş arasında pozitif yönlü ve anlamlı ilişkiler olduğu ve dindarlığın öznel iyi oluşu tüm alt boyutları ile pozitif yönlü ve anlamlı düzeyde yordadığı bulunmuştur. Elde edilen bulgulardan hareketle dindarlığın lise öğrencilerinde öznel iyi oluşu anlamlı düzeyde etkileyen önemli bir değişken olduğu ve öznel iyi oluşu artırarak yaşam doyumunu artırmayı hedefleyen çalışmalarda dindarlık değişkeninin önemli bir etmen olarak göz önünde bulundurulmasının yararlı olacağı söylenebilir. In this research period, the relationships between the religiousness characteristics of high school students and subjective well-being were examined according to various variables within this scope, 540 students who are studing in high schools were reached in the province of Samsun in Çarşamba and data collection tools used in the resarch process were applied. Normalization tests were conducted to determine the suitability of the collected data for the data analysis in the resarch process and it was determined that the data sets were parametric. In the context “t” test variance analysis correlation analysis and regression analysis were applied for data analysis in the research process. According to the findings obtained from the research it was found that the religiousness scores of high school students did not differ significantly according to gender and parental attitudes. On the other hand, it was found that high school student’s religiousness scores showed meaningful difference in information and effect sub-dimensions according to any religious group belonging variable and significant differences in worship, knowledge and emotion sub-dimensions. Also, it’s found that there is significant differentiation only in effect subdimension according to the variable of follow-up of religious publications and significant differce in belief, knowledge, feeling and effect sub-dimensions according to parental education level variable. Furthermore, it was found that there was a positive and significant relationship between religiosity and subjective well-being in high school students. It is found that religiosity predicts subjective well-being in all sub-dimensions at a meaningful level. It can be said that subjective well-being in the high scholl students of religiosity is an important variable affecting the meaningful level with the movement from the obtained findings. In this study, the effect of mix infections of Apple mosaic virus (ApMV), Apple chlorotic leaf spot virus (ACLSV), Apple stem grooving virus (ASGV) and Apple stem pitting virus (ASPV), which are the most common viruses of pome fruits in Turkey and the world, on fruit yield and quality were investigated on apple trees. Statistical analysis of fruit quality and physiological measurements of viruses-infected and non infected trees revealed that fruit firmness in 2010, soluble solid content, pH and acidity in 2011 were statistically significant. This study proved that the effects of viruses on yield and quality of apple trees can be more effectively revealed with single inoculations in the controlled environments, Bu çalışmada Türkiye’de ve dünyada yumuşak çekirdekli meyvelerde en yaygın görülen virüslerden Elma mozaik virüsü (ApMV), Elma klorotik yaprak leke virüsü (ACLSV), Elma gövde yivlenme virüsü (ASGV) ve Elma gövde çukurlaşma virüslerinin (ASPV) karışık enfeksiyonları sonucu elma ağaçlarında neden oldukları verim ve kaliteye olan etkileri araştırılmıştır. İstatiksel analizler sonucunda virüslerle enfekteli ağaçlar ile enfekteli olmayan ağaçlar arasında yapılan meyve kalite analizleri ve fizyolojik ölçümlerden 2010 yılında, meyve eti sertliği önemli bulunurken, 2011 yılında da meyve eti sertliği, SÇKM, pH ve titre edilebilirlik asitlik açısından önemli bulunmuştur. Bu çalışma virüslerin elma ağaçlarında verim ve kaliteye etkilerinin ancak kontrollü ortamlarda tekli inokulasyonlar yapılarak daha etkili bir şekilde belirlenebileceğini ortaya koymuştur.

Onaltıncı yüzyıldan itibaren gelişen merkantilizm, üretim ilişkilerini değiştirmekle birlikte, toplumun yeniden örgütlenmesini de sağlamıştır. Ticaret hayatının gereklerine uygun örgütlenme sürecinde, ekonomik gelişme feodal üretim ilişkilerini bozarak, kapitalizme giden yolu açmıştır. Bu kapitalizm, İhracatı artırma yönünde izlenen politika sonucu yeni pazarlar bulma girişimi şeklinde gerçekleşirken, üçüncü dünya ülkelerine mal akışıyla birlikte, kapitalizm de ihraç edilmeye başlanmıştır. Üretim artışı sonucu ortaya çıkan hammadde ihtiyacı da, üçüncü dünya ülkelerine yönelimi artırmıştır. Bu sürecin uzun vadede Osmanlı Devletini ilgilendiren kısmı yayılan kapitalizmin ulusal devletlerin oluşmasını sağlamasıdır. Bu teknolojik gelişmelerin neden olduğu Avrupa kaynaklı yayılma politikası Osmanlı devletini etkilemiştir. İlginçtir ki, Avrupada bilim devriminin yaşandığı yüzyıl, Osmanlı Devleti için bu geleneksel değerlerin sarsılmaya başladığı yüzyıl olmuştur. Osmanlı devleti onyedinci yüzyılın sonlarından, ondokuzuncu yüzyılın başına kadar bu değerleri korumaya çalışırken, Avrupanın yayılma politikasına yenik düşmüştür. Bu Osmanlı ekonomi sisteminin sonunu getirmiştir. Bu çalışmada iç ve dış etkiler sonucu Osmanlı geleneksel iktisadi değerlerinin çözülme süreci irdelenecektir., Mercantilism having been developed since the 16th century has caused the society to be reorganized besides changing production relations. During the organisation period which complied with the requirements of business life, the economic development led the way to capitalism, damaging feudal production relations. While capitalism was existing to find new markets because of the results of the policy followed to increase the export, it was started to be exported to the undeveloped countries with the product sales. The need of raw material emerged with the result of production increment also increased intensions towards undeveloped countries. In the long term the part of this period which interests the Ottoman State is that the spreading capitalism has caused national states to occur. The spreading policy, originated from Europe, caused by these technological developments effected Ottoman State. It is interesting that it was the century when the traditional values in Ottoman State started to be weakened while it was the century of science revolution in Europe. While Ottoman State was trying to protect these values from the end of 17th century till the begining of 19th century, it was defeated by the European spreading policy. And this eradecated the Ottoman State's finance system. In this study disintegration period of financial values in Ottoman traditional outcoming of external and internal inluences will be studied.

After years of neglect, vocabulary has now been accepted as crucial to be able to interact in the target language. However, it may also become a challenge for learners to master a sufficient amount of vocabulary. It is argued that the use of vocabulary learning strategies leads to effective vocabulary learning. Addressing this relationship, different studies have focused on probing the dynamics of vocabulary learning. In this sense, the current study attempts to examine this issue for EFL university students who are also pre- service English teachers. It aims to investigate the relationship between their vocabulary learning strategy use and vocabulary size. For this purpose, a cross-sectional and mixed research design was adapted and 80 ELT majors from 1st to 4th year participated in the study. In the three-week data gathering process, three instruments were used to measure the participants’ vocabulary size and vocabulary learning strategy use. The results demonstrated that the most frequently used strategy category was determination strategies although it did not have any effect on the participants’ vocabulary size. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the participants’ vocabulary learning strategy use, in general, significantly explained 17.8% of the variation in their vocabulary size.

J. M. Keynes’ famous work was met with enthusiasm, especially among young economists when it was published. Because, the equilibrium at full employment level which was claimed by the Classical theory has been barely visible since the Great Depression. Keynes’ statement on equilibrium under full employmen t is an important advancement for that era. In addition, mentioning of the uncertain future and expectations contained a complete novelty. To act or to decide in an environment of uncertainty represented more than a means to solve a practical problem for Keynes. In that aspect, he rejected the prevailing view of the Classical theory; namely, the idea of rational expectations. As a matter of fact, that dominant view which had settled since first coined by D. Hume was based on a uniform and static expectation model. According to Keynes, the insecure, uncertain and unpredictable nature of the future conflicts with the functioning of a static expectation model. People are obligated to solve the uncertainty of the future due to two important reasons. Those are determination of investment decisions and ensuring the function of money as store of wealth. Indeed, money is really an operational tool according to Keynes and people can also keep their incomes in cash. People are in a position topredict the future interest rates for both variables. On the contrary to the views of rational expectations of the Classical theory, an expectation model which is based on past experiences and peripheral behaviors constituted Keynes’ basic philosophy., J.M.Keynes, ünlü eserini yayınladığında özellikle genç ekonomistler arasında heyecanla karşılanmıştır. Çünkü Klasik teorinin iddia ettiği tam istihdamda denge, Büyük Buhrandan sonra zor görünür olmuştu. Keynes’in tam istihdam altında dengeden bahsetmesi o dönem için önemli bir çıkıştır. Ayrıca belirsiz gelecekten ve bekleyişlerden bahsetmesi ise tam bir yenilik içermektedir, Keynes için güvensizlik ortamında hareket etmek veya karar vermek, pratik bir problem çözmekten öte bir anlam ifade etmektedir. Bu haliyle klasik teoriden gelen hakim görüşü, yani rasyonel beklentiler görüşünü reddetmiştir. Aslında D. Hume’dan itibaren yerleşen bu hakim görüş, tek düze ve statik bir beklenti modeline dayanmaktaydı. Keynes’e göre geleceğin güvensiz, belirsiz, öngörülemez oluşu, statik bir beklenti modelinin işleyişine ters düşmüştür. İnsanlar iki önemli nedenden ötürü geleceğin belirsizliğini çözmek durumundadırlar. Bunlar, yatırım kararlarının verilebilmesi ve paranın servet tutma işlevinin sağlanmasıdır. Gerçekten Keynes’de para işlevsel bir araçtır ve insanlar gelirlerini nakit olarak da tutabilmektedirler. Bu iki değişken için de insanlar gelecekteki faiz oranını tahmin etmek durumundadırlar. Bu aşamada Klasik teorinin statik bir modelde gerçekleşebilecek rasyonel beklentiler görüşünün aksine, geçmiş tecrübelerine dayanan ve yakın çevre davranışlarından etkilenen bir beklenti modeli Keynes’in temel felsefesini oluşturmaktadır.

Carl Gustav Jung davranışlarımızın sadece insan bilincinin bir ürünü olarak görülmemesi gerektiğini belirtir ve dahası bilinci buzdağının sadece görünen kısmı olarak tanımlar. Bu yüzden, kollektif bilinçdışına büyük önem verir ve kollektif bilinçdışının rolünü düşünme, konuşma ve davranış şeklimize yön verdiği için kaçınılmaz ve hayati olarak tanımlar. Kollektif bilinçdışının bastırılan, unutulan ve istenmeyen değerleri barındırdığı için, insan davranışları üzerinde önemli derecede olumsuz etkilere sahip olduğunu önerir. Bu yüzden, kollektif bilinçdışı bireyleri etrafındakilere zarar verecek kötü davranışlar sergilemeye sevk eder. Jung bireylerin kötülük diye adlandırılacak davranışlarını bireylerin kollektif bilinçdışının barındırdığı içeriklere, değerlere ve içsel yapısına bağlar. Bu çalışma Hamlet'in Gertrude ve Ophelia'ya yaptığı kötülüklerin psikolojik temellerine Jung'un kollektif bilinçdışı teorisi ile ışık tutmayı amaçlar. Hamlet'in bu iki kadın karaktere yapmış olduğu kötülüklerde kollektif bilinçdışının rolü ve etkisi Jung'un dört ilgili arketipine: gölge, anima, anne arketipi ve persona, dayandırılmaktadır. Thus, he attaches a great deal of importance to the collective unconscious of human psyche, claiming that its role is both inevitable and significant since it shapes the way we think, talk, and behave. He proposes that the impact of the collective unconscious upon human behavior has a great potential of being negative since it has all the suppressed, undesired, unsatisfactory, and forgotten contents in it. Therefore, it may lead individuals into committing evil deeds harming others around us. Thus, Jung blames evil actions on the internal structure and the content of collective unconscious of the individual. This study aims to shed light on the psychological roots of Hamlet's evil upon Gertrude and Ophelia within the framework of Jung's collective unconscious theory. The role and the impact of collective unconscious on Hamlet's evil upon the two female characters are traced back to Jung's four relevant archetypes: shadow, anima, mother archetype, and persona. It is argued in particular that Hamlet's behavior against Gertrude and Ophelia is principally shaped by these four archetypes in a negative way, leading him to perform evil since these female characters both fail to nurture his archetypal expectations and conflict with his unconscious requirements.Key Words: Carl Gustav Jung, collective unconscious, archetypes, evil, female characters in 'The Tragedy of Hamlet'. 91

Following mentioned preclinical reports, several clinical data have confirmed the extracts or commercial preparations as effective as some standard antidepressants in mild to moderate depression. Plant extracts are also effective for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorders, somatoform disorders, sleep disorders, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder and seasonal affective disorder. The central activity profile of the extracts is different form that of clinically used antidepressant drugs in terms of variety of the pharmacological effects. The extracts are suggested to provide additional advantage to avoid polypharmacy, considering that anxiety, sleep, and learning disorders accompany depression in most patients and complicated dementia cases are concurrent with depression especially in geriatric patients. Although results of studies are favorable in terms of pharmacological effects, patients should not take the Hypericum perforatum L. extracts without professional advice because of some possible adverse effects and drug-interactions of the plant.

The central nervous system complications of diabetes are known as "diabetic encephalopathy". The complications due to chronic hyperglycemia and impaired insulin functions are designated "primary diabetic encephalopathy", other complications due to vascular diseases or hypoglycemic episodes, which depend on intense insulin treatment are named "secondary diabetic encephalopathy". Diabetes was shown to be associated with several cerebrovascular, neurochemical and electrophysiologic changes on the central nervous system. Increase in depression and anxiety levels, disorders in cognitive functions like problem solving, attention, information interpreting and saving and changes in pain perception have been reported in experimental diabetic animals. On the other hand, there are some clinical reports which indicated the sleeping disorders, somatization, nervous and depressive mood, defects in cognitive functions like learning, memory, problem solving hyperalgesia and allodynia in Type-I diabetic patients and impaired cognitive functions, decreased discrete reasoning and complex psycomotor activity, and higher dementia risk in Type-II diabetic patients. Reports suggested that insulin could not prevent the mentioned psychiatric and cognitive disorders alone, because such disorders also developed in Type-I diabetic patients who used insulin regularly. In this review, the aim is to focus on diabetic complications in experimental models of diabetis. For this purpose, com-plications, chiefly seen in log-term periods in various systems of animals, such as cardio vascular and nervous systems, gastrointestinal, urogenital and respiratory tracts, etc., have been stated. Furthermore, novel and conventional therapeutic approaches in their management have also been briefly discussed.

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of diabetes mellitus and associated risk factors in rural Kayseri in Central Anatolia and to demonstrate whether glucometers can be used in epidemiological studies. This research was performed in Kayseri in 1994. The research population consisted of 3713 people chosen randomly among men and women of 30 years of age and over. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus was identified as 5.6 %. In addition, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus was found to be higher in men than in women, in people of 50 and over than in people of 49 and under, in secondary educated groups than in lower educated and above groups, in obese people than in non-obese people and in hypertensive people than in normotensive people. According to the results we found a high rate of prevalence of diabetes mellitus in our area. It is believed that it can be reduced by prevention, control and education programs. In conclusion, it is thought that a glucometer can be used in epidemiological studies.

Sunulan çalışmada, farelerde nikotin ile indüklenen lokomotor aktivite üzerine Hiperikum perforatum ekstresinin etkileri incelenmiştir. Çalışmada denek olarak erişkin erkek Swiss-Webster türü fareler kullanıldı. Nikotin (0.5, 1 ve 2 mg/kg) ve serum fizyolojik farelere intraperitoneal yoldan enjekte edildi. Nikotin veya şalin enjeksiyonlarından hemen sonra 30 dakika süre ile farelerin lokomotor aktiviteleri kaydedildi. Hiperikum perforatum ekstresi (HPE) (6, 12, 24 ve 48 mg/kg) ve şalin diğer 5 farklı grup fareye enjekte edildi ve enjeksiyonlardan 20 dakika sonra farelerin 30 dakika süre ile lokomotor aktiviteleri kaydedildi. Daha ileri bir çalışma olarak, HPE (6-24 mg/kg) başka bağımsız gruplarda yer alan farelere nikotin (1 mg/kg) enjeksiyonundan 20 dakika önce verildi. Bu gruplarda da nikotin (1 mg/ kg) enjeksiyonlarının hemen sonrasında farelerin 30 dakika süre ile lokomotor aktiviteleri kaydedildi. Nikotin (1 mg/kg) farelerin lokomotor aktivitelerinde anlamlı ölçüde artışa neden oldu. HPE 48 mg/kg'hk dozunda farelerin lokomotor aktivitesini anlamlı ölçüde deprese etti. HPE'nin çalışmada kullanılan diğer dozları (6-24 mg/kg) lokomotor aktivitelerde anlamlı bir değişiklik oluşturmadı. HPE (24 mg/kg) nikotin ile indüklenen lokomotor aktivite artışını anlamlı ölçüde bloke etti. Sonuçlarımız HPE'nin farelerde nikotin ile indüklenen lokomotor aktivite artışını bloke ettiğine ve bu ekstrenin nikotin tipi bağımlılığın tedavisinde fay dalı olabieceğine işaret etmektedir., In the present study, the effects of Hypericum perforatum on nicotine-induced locomotor activity have been investigated in mice. Adult male Swiss-Webster mice were subjects. Nicotine (0.5, 1 and 2 mg/kg) and saline were given to mice intraperitoneally. Locomotor activities of the mice were recorded for 30 min immediately following nicotine or saline administration. Hypericum perforatum extract (HPE) (6, 12, 24 and 48 mg/kg) and saline were injected to another five independent groups of the mice and 20 min later, locomotor activity was recorded for 30 min. In further study, HPE (6-24 mg/kg) was administered to other independent groups of mice 20 min before nicotine (1 mg/kg) injections and locomotor activity was recorded for 30 min immediately after nicotine administration. Nicotine (1 mg/kg) produced a significant increase in locomotor activity of the mice. HPE depressed significantly locomotor activity of the mice at dose of 48 mg/kg. Other doses of HPE (6-24 mg/kg) did not produce any significant change in the locomotor activities. HPE (24 mg/kg) blocked significantly nicotine (1 mg/kg)-induced locomotor. Our results suggest that HPE blocks nicotine-induced locomotor hyperactivity in mice. Thus, it may be a useful agent for treatment of nicotine-type dependence.
