However, for the commercial viability of micropropagation application in the field of horticulture and how this might compete with traditional methods of propagation (cuttings, etc.), it is necessary to decrease production costs. Therefore, the development of photo-autotrophic micropropagation systems (production of micropropagules in sugar-free medium under environmental conditions that promote photosynthesis of the culture) with natural light appear as a possibility to improve the efficiency of micropropagation and to reduce costs. This research aimed the photo-autotrophic multiplication of blackberry (Rubus spp.) cultivar Xavante and raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) cultivars Batum and Heritage. Preliminary experiments was carried out to define the constitution of culture medium that provides better results, as on multiplication as on in vitro rooting of blackberry and raspberry, under conventional conditions of micropropagation. Then, using the best constitution of culture medium, it was done the study of the photo-autotrophic multiplication by using natural light. The MS medium enriched with BAP at 13 µM was the more efficient treatment on in vitro multiplication of leaves of blackberry Xavante and raspberries Batum and Heritage , inducing a higher number of leaves, shoots and buds. The best rooting condition for explants of the blackberry Xavante was reached by keeping the explants in WPM enriched with 2,5 µM AIB for a week followed by a regulator-free medium growth. Nevertheless, for raspberry Batum rooting, it is necessary the addition of 6,5 µM AIB. Under photo- autotrophic conditions, the aluminum foil was the best sealing material for the flasks. Regarding to in vitro multiplication for blackberry cultivar Xavante the best growth local was in greenhouse with the addition of 22 g L -1 sucrose to the medium; and for raspberry Batum was at 11,5 g L-1 sucrose but kept in growth room. For in vitro rooting of raspberry Batum cotton was the best sealing material, growth room and sugar-free medium were the best condition having a higher rooting percentage and root numbers per explants. A cultura de tecidos é uma técnica que proporciona com sucesso a micropropagação massal de frutíferas e que já vem sendo utilizada com eficientes resultados para a produção de mudas sadias com alta qualidade. Entretanto, para que a aplicação da micropropagação na fruticultura torne-se viável comercialmente e possa competir com métodos tradicionais de propagação (estaquia, etc), é necessária a redução do custo de produção. Diante disso, o desenvolvimento de sistemas de micropropagação fotoautotrófica (produção de micropropágulos sem adição de sacarose no meio de cultura e sob condições ambientais que promovam a fotossíntese na planta) com o uso de luz natural surge como possibilidade que apresenta potencial para aumentar a eficiência da micropropagação e auxiliar na redução de seu custo. Assim, este trabalho teve como objetivo a multiplicação fotoautotrófica de amoreira-preta (Rubus spp.) cv. Xavante e de framboeseira (Rubus idaeus L.) cvs. Batum e Heritage. Dessa forma, foram realizados os estudos preliminares a fim de definir a constituição do meio de cultura que propicie os melhores resultados, tanto na multiplicação como no enraizamento in vitro de amorapreta e framboesa, sob condições convencionais de micropropagação. A partir daí, foi realizado o estudo da micropropagação fotoautotrófico com o uso da luz natural, utilizando a constituição do meio de cultura que propiciou os melhores resultados. Pelos resultados obtidos, conclui-se que o meio MS adicionado de BAP na concentração de 13µM é o tratamento mais eficiente na multiplicação in vitro de explantes com folhas de amoreira-preta Xavante e framboeseira Batum e Heritage , induzindo maior número de folhas, brotações e gemas. Para o enraizamento in vitro de amoreira-preta Xavante , o meio WPM adicionado de 2,5µM AIB e mantido por uma semana, seguido do cultivo em meio livre de regulador é o melhor meio de enraizamento; para framboeseira Batum , é necessária a adição de 6,5µM de AIB. Em condições fotoautotróficas o alumínio é o melhor modo de vedação dos frascos de cultivo. Para a multiplicação in vitro de amoreira-preta cv. Xavante , o melhor local de cultivo é a casa de vegetação e a adição de 22 g L -1 de sacarose no meio de cultura e de 11,5g L-1 para framboeseira Batum , mantida na sala de crescimento. Para o enraizamento in vitro de framboeseira cv. Batum, o algodão é o melhor modo de vedação dos frascos de cultivo; o melhor local de cultivo é a sala de crescimento, sem a adição de sacarose no meio de cultura, obtendo-se maior porcentagem de enraizamento, número de raízes por explante.

O experimento foi conduzido em Ponta Grossa (PR) com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito da densidade de mudas por célula em diferentes bandejas na produção de mudas e no cultivo da rúcula. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados com quatro repetições; os tratamentos foram distribuídos conforme esquema fatorial 4 x 2, sendo densidades de mudas por célula (uma, duas, três e quatro), e dois tipos de bandejas de poliestireno expandido (200 e 288 células). A semeadura foi realizada em 28/03/2003, com sementes da cultivar Cultivada, em células preenchidas com o substrato Plantmax, sob cultivo protegido. Antes do transplante, avaliaram-se as características de número de folhas definitivas, comprimento da parte aérea e da raiz, matéria fresca e seca da parte aérea e da raiz. O transplante foi realizado aos 17 dias da semeadura, em parcelas com 40 plantas dispostas no espaçamento 0,20 x 0,10 m. Na colheita, aos 20 dias do transplante, foram avaliadas as características de comprimento da parte aérea, número de folhas, matéria fresca e seca por planta. No estádio de mudas, observou-se efeito significativo de interação para algumas características avaliadas. O volume da célula foi um fator importante na produção de mudas e dependente da densidade. A melhor qualidade de muda foi proveniente de bandejas com 200 células (16 cm3), quando comparada com as de 288 células (12 cm3). À medida que houve aumento da densidade de mudas por célula, observou-se maior efeito de competição, principalmente nas bandejas com 288 células. No entanto, o comportamento diferenciado das mudas provenientes das bandejas de 200 e 288 células não se manifestou durante o cultivo. Na época de colheita, somente a característica de comprimento da parte aérea diferiu estatisticamente, sendo superior nas plantas provenientes da bandeja com 200 células. Por outro lado, a densidade de mudas promoveu respostas diferentes na produção da rúcula. Houve diminuição no comprimento da parte aérea, número de folhas, peso da matéria fresca e seca produzida por planta, em resposta à pressão de competição promovida pelo aumento da densidade. Considerando o rendimento de matéria fresca, a densidade contribuiu diretamente para o incremento dessa característica. Observou-se a média de 1,4 kg m-2, quando se usou a densidade de uma muda e de 6,4 kg m-2 com quatro mudas. Para os dois tipos de bandejas, à medida que houve aumento da densidade de mudas, houve resposta linear crescente na matéria fresca por área. Como a forma de comercialização predominante para a rúcula é em maços, o rendimento promovido pela densidade de quatro mudas, tanto na bandeja de 200 como na de 288 células, apresentou-se como a alternativa mais adequada. The experiment was realized in Ponta Grossa (PR) aiming at avaluating seedlings density/cells using different trays and its effects on seedlings production and yield of rocket press. The experimental design was a randomised blocks with four replications; the treatments followed a factorial arrangement 4 x 2, being 1, 2 , 3 and 4 seedlings/cell on trays with 200 and 288 cells. Seeds were sowed on 28/03/2003, with the cultivar Cultivada on trays with commercial substrate Plantmax under protected cultivation. Before seedlings transplanting it was avaluated the characteristics of leaves number, lenght of upper part and root, fresh and dry weight of up ground material and root. The seedlings transplanting was carried out through with seventeen days in plots containing 40 plants in 0,20 x 0,10 m arrangement. At harvesting, 20 days of the seedlings transplanting, it was avaluated the following characteristics: lenght of upper part, leaves number, fresh and dry weight of up ground material. On the seedlings stage it was observed a significative effect of the interaction. The cell size was an important factor on seedlings production and it depended also on seedlings densities/cell. The best seedlings quality was obtained using trays with 200 cells, compared to 288 cells. Increasing the seedlings density/cell it was observed higher effect of seedlings competition, mainly on trays of 288 cells on the characteristics of leaves number, fresh weight of up ground material and lenght of upper part and root. However these differences were diluted during plants development on the field, being at the harvesting only the characteristic of leaves number still superior on trays of 200 cells (volume of 16 cm3) compared to 288 cells (12 cm3). On the other hand the seedlings density/cell promoted yield response on rocket press. It was observed linear response on yield. It was observed decreasing on lenght of upper part, leaves number, fresh and dry weight of up ground material, in response of competition pressure among plants promoted by density increasing. However it was observed linear increment on yield/area with the increasing of the seedlings/density. The increment on fresh weight was significative considering yield average of 1,4 kg m-2 on density of single seedling and 6,4 kg m-2 when it was used four seedlings/cell. It was observed that when density was increased, higher was the yield on fresh weight to both trays. Considering the commercialization of rocket press mainly on bunch, it seems more interesting a higher density with four seedlings, on trays with 200 or 288 cells.

U radu se daje povijesni pregled razvitka oplemenjivanja bilja, sjemenarstva i rasadničarstva u Hrvatskoj, od prvih istraživačkih eksperimenata, gospodarskih društava, škola, fakulteta, instituta, zavoda i sl. pa do danas. U radu je dat prikaz osnutka i djelovanje prve hrvatske agrikulturne znanstvene ustanove Postaje za istraživanje sjemena s pokušalištem u Križevcima do današnjih znanstveno - nastavnih i stručnih organizacija u Zagrebu, Osijeku, Splitu, Križevcima, Poreču i dr. Prikazani su podaci o radu zaslužnih znanstvenika i stručnjaka, promicatelja ove važne specijalnosti od prvih biljnih genetičara, oplemenjivača bilja, sjemenara i rasadničara, do sadašnjih nositelja ovog znanstveno-nastavnog i stručnog projekta. Hrvatski sjemenari, oplemenjivači i rasadničari s ponosom obilježavaju 110.-u obljetnicu nacionalnog doprinosa ovoj specijalnosti i s zahvalnošću se sjedaju zaslužnih promicatelja hrvatskog poljodjelstva koji su svojim radom značajno doprinijeli hrvatskom i europskom sjemenu i sadnom materijalu. Danas možemo s ponosom utvrditi da je njihov prinos ovoj specijalnosti nemjerljiv., The paper is an historical review of the plant breeding, seed science and technology. The data from the first experimental fields of agricultural societies, schools, faculties, institutes, departments etc. until the present days are given. The period from establishment and activities of the first Croatian agricultural and scientific institute, the Station for Seed Research with it's trial field in Križevci until present agricultural and scientific institutions in Zagreb, Osijek, Split, Križevci, Poreč etc. is described. The data on the work of prominent scientists and experts, promoters of seed science, from the first plant breeders, seed producers and seedling producers, till now days experts in this this field are given. Croatian seed producers, breeders and seedling producers are proud to commemorate 110 years of Croatian seed science and technology, and they are proud that they have such successful seed growers and breaders in the past. Today we can proudly determine that their contribution to this speciallity is not measurable.

O trabalho teve por objetivo selecionar fungos micorrízicos arbusculares (FMAs) eficientes na promoção do crescimento de mudas de maracujazeiro-amarelo, em substrato esterilizado, com diferentes níveis de fertilidade, em função da adição ou não de matéria orgânica. Foram realizados três experimentos, em casa de vegetação. No primeiro, empregou-se como substrato uma mistura de 2:1:1 de areia, solo (Latossolo Vermelho Eutroférrico) e esterco de curral; no segundo, uma mistura de 1:1 de solo e areia e no terceiro, uma mistura de 9:1 de solo e esterco de curral. Os FMAs empregados foram: Acaulospora sp.(IAC-13), Gigaspora margarita, Glomus sp (IAC-27), Acaulospora morrowae, Acaulospora sp. (IAC-44), Acaulospora scrobiculata, Scutellospora heterogama, Glomus clarum,Glomus sp. (IAC-28), Entrophospora colombiana, Glomus etunicatum e Glomus macrocarpum. No terceiro experimento, empregaram-se G. clarum, Glomus sp. (IAC-28), G. margarita, G. etunicatum e G. macrocarpum (IAC-50), uma mistura dessas espécies e populações de fungos nativos, oriundas de solo de uma cultura de maracujá estabelecida no campo e multiplicadas em Brachiaria decumbens, maracujazeiro e amendoinzeiro. Os efeitos positivos da micorrização foram maiores no substrato sem adição de matéria orgânica (esterco de curral), não superando, entretanto, o efeito da sua adição. G. clarum, G. etunicatum e G. margarita promoveram aumento significativo na produção de matéria seca. No substrato com adição de 25% de matéria orgânica, os fungos Acaulospora sp. (IAC- 44) e A. morrowae foram eficientes na promoção do desenvolvimento das mudas, com desempenho comparável ao Glomus sp. (IAC- 28) no substrato com adição de 10% de esterco de curral. G. clarum mostrou efeito parasítico, diminuindo o crescimento das plantas no substrato com 25% de matéria orgânica. The purpose of this study was to select effective arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on the production of yellow passionflower seedlings. The variables considered were: sterile substrates, fertility levels, and organic matter addition. Three greenhouse experiments were conducted using different mixtures as substrates: 2:1:1 - sand, soil and dairy manure, 1:1 - sand and soil , and 9:1 - soil and dairy manure. The AMF used at the two first experiments were: Acaulospora sp. (IAC-13), Gigaspora margarita, Glomus sp. (IAC-27), Acaulospora morrowae, Acaulospora sp. (IAC-44), Acaulospora scrobiculata, Scutellospora heterogama, Glomus clarum, Glomus sp. (IAC-28), Entrophospora colombiana, Glomus etunicatum and Glomus macrocarpum. In the third experiment, the following AMF were used: G. clarum, Glomus sp. (IAC-28), G. margarita, G. etunicatum and G. macrocarpum (IAC-50), a mixture of these fungal species and indigenous AMF populations obtained from a passionflower field cropping, which were multiplied in Brachiaria decumbens, passionflower and peanut. The highest mycorrhizal benefits were obtained in the substrate with no organic matter addition, which, however, did not surpass the positive effect of organic matter on plant growth. The most efficient fungi were G. clarum, G. etunicatum and G. margarita. In the substrate with organic matter addition (25 g.kg-1), Acaulospora sp. (IAC- 44) and A. morrowae were efficient to promote plant growth, while G. clarum had a parasitic effect. Plants colonized by Glomus sp. (IAC- 28) had higher growth in the substrate with 10 g.kg-1 of dairy manure added to the soil, which was comparable to the effect of those efficient fungi in the substrate with the highest organic matter addition.
