En el centro de estas escenas están las nociones de biopolítica y de precariedad. Los acontecimientos expuestos son imágenes que nos permiten pensar los modos en que, funcionarios y periodistas y en general nuestras sociedades, trazan distinciones jerárquicas entre vidas a proteger, cuidar o futurizar y vidas a abandonar, sacrificar o directamente eliminar. La operación que nos interesa subrayar sobre esa vida gira en torno a estas dimensiones que se iluminan en el trabajo de lectura con estos materiales culturales y que suponen una complementariedad conceptual entre los recorridos de la biopolítica y de la precariedad. Allí donde la vida y el viviente es cualificado por normas afectivas en un registro de la vitalidad corporal y la baja modulación anímica según apuntan la crónica Alta Rotación y la película La noche de Edgardo Castro; formado también por una dimensión temporal anacrónica tal como sucede en Chicas Muertas de Selva Almada, o una dimensión temporal de la intermitencia y el presentismo también en Alta Rotación de Laura Meradi. O cuando la precariedad se conjuga en genocidio de mujeres como modo de gestión del hacer morir o en el destino ulterior de los cuerpos, especialmente en 2666 de Bolaño, Chicas Muertas de Selva Almada y Las cosas que perdimos en el fuego de Mariana Enríquez. Y hasta la inscripción de redes de interdependencia entre humanos y animales en Cuaderno de Campo de Carlos Ríos, Um sopro de vida (Pulsações) de Clarice Lispector y La mujer de los perros de Laura Citarella y Verónica Llinás. Lo que estos materiales plasman, de un modo muy nítido, es un conjunto de dimensiones -de nuevo, lo estético y lo sensible, lo afectivo y lo temporal, lo no-humano y la deriva genocida-, líneas de indagación y zonas de problematización que no adquieren la suficiente relevancia en los debates contemporáneos sobre biopolítica y sobre precariedad. Back in vogue today is the tendency of Italian philosophy toward reflection on itself that has always characterized an important part of our historiographical tradition. The present essay firstly analyzes the various interpretative positions in respect to the legitimacy, the risks, and the benefits of such a discourse, which intends to distinguish the different traditions of thought by resorting to a criterion of territorial or national kind. Secondly, the essay examines diverse paradigms that identify – in “precursory genius”; in ethical and civil vocation; and in “living thought” – the distinctive hallmark of the Italian philosophical tradition from the Renaissance to today., Phenomenology and Mind, No 12 (2017): New Trends in Philosophy

In this article, we reconstruct very briefly the use of the term “impolitic” which authors such as Thomas Mann and Massimo Cacciari have accomplished in the twentieth century. Taking the relevant distance regarding these formulations, the position of Roberto Esposito is reconstructed in relation to the concept of “impolitic”. To do this, first, the four main objections to the concept are explained and answered. Subsequently, it is related to the concept of “representation” because it is considered to be one of the central categories of modern political thought. The method used by Esposito to confront the notion of “representation” is deconstruction. However, we find in the category of “power” inscribed in the heart of Italian thought the possibility of leaving the moment of deconstruction to think the possibility of an affirmative policy. En este artículo reconstruimos muy sumariamente el uso que, en el siglo XX, le han dado al término “impolítico” autores como Thomas Mann y Massimo Cacciari. Tomada la distancia pertinente respecto de estas formulaciones, reconstruimos la posición de Roberto Esposito en relación con el concepto de “impolítico”. Para ello, en primer lugar, explicitamos y respondemos a las cuatro grandes objeciones al concepto. Posteriormente, lo relacionamos con el concepto de “representación” porque consideramos que es una de las categorías centrales del pensamiento político moderno. El método utilizado por Esposito para confrontar con la noción de “representación” es la deconstrucción. Sin embargo, en la categoría de “potencia” inscripta en el corazón del pensamiento italiano encontramos la posibilidad de salir del momento de deconstrucción para pensar en la posibilidad de una política afirmativa.

pp. 123-128. The article discusses Roberto Esposito���s "Living Thought" from the point of view of "Italian Theory", a topic that Esposito introduces and analyzes in the first chapter. "Italian Theory" doesn���t aim to emphasize a "national difference" in philosophy in order to resist to the uniformity of Anglo-American globalization, but rather it represents a critical perspective within the "geophilosophy" of today, that would aim to think the difference of a particular philosophical tradition neither as "national" nor as the newest trend of the global academic market.

El hecho de que el ser humano fuera considerado "persona" llevaba consigo la igualdad y la libertad y, en definitiva, aseguraba una protección mínima. The article addresses the attempts of contemporary continental philosophy to develop a politics that would move beyond the Hobbesian logic of the constitution of political community. In their readings of Hobbes, Roberto Esposito and Giorgio Agamben emphasize the nihilistic character of Hobbes’s approach to community. For Esposito, Hobbes’s commonwealth is legitimized by a prior negation of the originary human community in the construction of the state of nature as the state of war. Yet, as Agamben shows, this negative state of nature is never fully transcended by the commonwealth, which persistently reproduces it in the state of exception. These critiques emphasize the complex relation between nature and artifice in Hobbes’s thought, which have profound implications for the attempts to arrive at a ‘post-Hobbesian’ mode of political community. Neither a facile search for a truer, more fundamental state of nature nor an affirmation of artifice and denaturation as constitutive of human community are sufficient to evade the Hobbesian constellation. A genuine move beyond Hobbes would rather consist in thoroughly deactivating the very relation between nature and artifice whereby they become indistinct and no longer negate each other.

Artykuł problematyzuje sposób, w jaki Giorgio Agamben rozprawia się z paradygmatem teologii politycznej w swoim cyklu Homo sacer. Autor porównuje koncepcje Agambena z tymi, które w ostatnich latach zaproponował Roberto Esposito - myśliciel, który wydaje się mieć wiele wspólnego z Agambenem. W rzeczywistości jednak, wybierając inną strategię intelektualną, idee Esposita mogą zostać użyte jako krytyczne narzędzia przeciwko niektórym aspektom projektu Agambena (np. przeciwko koncepcji profanacji). Wbrew deklaracjom Agambena oraz bezprecedensowego zasięgu i głębi jego studiów (a raczej: właśnie z powodu tychże), nie jest on w stanie zaproponować drogi wyjścia z reżimu teologii politycznej. Autor stara się udowodnić powyższą tezą, analizując terminologiczny poziom koncepcji Agambena, kierunek rozwoju jego myśli oraz sposób prowadzenia przez niego badań genealogicznych. W efekcie projekt Homo sacer zaczyna przypominać niemy język tego, co impolityczne. The paper concerns the way how Giorgio Agamben deals with the paradigm of political theology in his Homo sacer project. The author compares Agamben’s ideas with those presented by Roberto Esposito – a thinker who apparently seems to have a lot in common with Agamben. In fact choosing different intellectual strategy Esposito’ ideas could be used as a critical tool against some parts of Agamben’s project (e.g. the concept of profanations). In spite of Agamben’s declarations and (or rather: precisely because of) unprecedented scope and deepness of his studies, he is not able to provide the way out of the political theology regime. The author tries to prove abovementioned thesis by examining the terminological level of Agamben’s ideas, the direction in which his thought is developed or the way how he conducts his genealogies. Consequently Homo sacer project seems to remind the silent language of the Impolitical.

By the mid-seventies of the twentieth century, Michel Foucault had introduced the terms "biopolitics" and "biopower" into the philosophical vocabulary; concepts that he used in his studies on the history of sexuality. The elaborations of the French thinker have been taken and developed, since the mid-nineties, by several Italian intellectuals, including Giorgio Agamben, Antonio Negri, and Roberto Esposito. Since that time, studies on biopolitics and biopower have been strongly associated with the tradition of Italian political philosophy, so much so that abroad they are often categorized under the label "Italian Theory". In this article, I trace the history of the two ideas in an effort to better delineate their meaning and implications. Intorno alla metà degli anni settanta del XX secolo, Michel Foucault introduce nel vocabolario filosofico i termini "biopolitica" e "biopotere", e ne utilizza i relativi concetti nei suoi studi sulla storia della sessualità. Le elaborazioni del pensatore francese vengono riprese e approfondite, a partire dalla metà degli anni novanta, da alcuni intellettuali italiani, tra i quali Giorgio Agamben, Toni Negri e Roberto Esposito. Da quel momento, gli studi sulla biopolitica e il biopotere iniziano a essere fortemente associati alla tradizione della filosofia politica italiana, tanto che all’estero vengono catalogati sotto l’etichetta "Italian Theory". In questo articolo, ripercorriamo la storia delle due idee, nel tentativo di delinearne meglio il significato e le implicazioni.

Il contributo si interroga sulla possibilità di declinare in prospettiva femminista la biopolitica affermativa proposta da Roberto Esposito. In questa ottica intreccia la visione di Judith Butler con quella dello stesso Esposito e prova ad analizzare l'opera dell'artista sudafricana Zanele Muholi, come voce che interroga il problema dell'intreccio tra corpi e spazi di vita in una dimensione biopolitica.

Dissertação de Mestrado em Estudos Europeus, orientado pelo Professor Doutor Alexandre Franco de Sá, apresentada ao departamento de História, Estudos Europeus, Arqueologia e Artes da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra Objecto do presente trabalho é a evolução dos modelos prevalecentes de exercício do poder na modernidade, evolução assente numa confrontação com o pensamento de Roberto Esposito. Quando a comunidade é pensada como uma proteção face ao seu perigo principal – a exposição violenta à alteridade – ela assume internamente a forma de uma comum divisão. No paradigma social imunitário que Esposito individua, através duma abordagem etimológica e genealógica, vida e poder não são pensados como originariamente separados e sucessivamente unidos, mas como as duas componentes de um único nó que assume sentido unicamente a partir da relação entre elas. O poder não é exterior às dinâmicas da vida mas “vive” juntamente com ela: deste ponto de vista, se a doença fortalece a vida, a sua presença é portanto necessária no interior do próprio corpo comunitário. Para Michel Foucault, a característica principal da biopolítica é o facto de o poder assumir a vida como objecto e como objectivo. A análise de Esposito visa estabelecer uma ligação profunda entre a própria biopolítica e a questão da imunidade, fazendo dessa última categoria a engrenagem portante de toda a modernidade. Para uma biopolítica que leve em conta a vida, em sentido afirmativo, é preciso assumir o perigo da comunidade a objecto de reflexão, sem instrumentalizá-lo nem negá-lo através da imunidade. O pensamento da imanência, pano de fundo nas análises de Esposito, representaria também uma das peculiaridades da filosofia italiana, capaz unicamente de se dotar duma linguagem centrada nas categorias de vida e poder, e nas relações por elas produzidas.

This article analyzes Jorge de Sena’s short story “A Grã-Canária” in the context of a wider discussion on the topographies of the South Atlantic taken as an ideological construct, to some extent always already textual(ized). The story emphasizes the tensions in the enclosing of either the boat or the island as spaces of absolute fascist rule (in 1938 and 1961), and its setting in the Atlantic allows for a wider criticism of oppressive regimes operating in the South Atlantic axis while also addressing the “Atlantic exception” (Roberto Vecchi) in the context of wider European headings. It dismantles both the incipient establishing of the Atlantic as a “Portuguese Sea” by the Estado Novo and the construction of the legal and political conceptions such as that of the “overseas provinces” in the Constitutional Revision of 1951. This reading aims to foreground the spacing (Jacques Derrida) intrinsic to the inscription of such topographies of otherness and the projection of the selfsame in order to stress the tensions, the contradictions, and the limits of discourses underwriting an “immunitary paradigm” (Roberto Esposito) bent on establishing and marking the borders between a supposed self and its projected others.

Ma thèse propose une analyse attentive de la ré-écriture de l'histoire articulée dans trois romans du collectif d'écrivains italiens publiant sous le pseudonyme Wu Ming: "Q", "54" et "Manituana". Partant du pamphlet publié par les Wu Ming en 2008 sur leur conception du roman historique et de l’écriture romanesque en général, the New Italian Epic (NIE), je propose deux angles d’approche pour mettre en évidence la relecture de l’histoire se dessinant dans les romans cités ci-dessus: la notion du regard oblique (qui est mentionnée dans le NIE); et le concept de multitude. La technique du regard oblique implique une réflexivité de la narration, une mise en abîme du processus narratif qui est effectuéé par le biais d’un point de vue insolite. Ce dernier peut provenir d'un animal, d’un objet animé, ou même d’un objet mystérieux comme le flux immatériel. Cette technique a déjà des précédents littéraires dans l’oeuvre d’écrivains tels que Italo Calvino ou Thomas Pynchon, mais dans la nouvelle forme qu’elle acquiert dans les textes des Wu Ming, elle permet l’articulation d’une relecture transversale de l’histoire. Cette relecture transversale émergeant dans les romans des Wu Ming est analysée dans la première partie de la thèse. La conceptualisation du regard oblique que je développe dans cette partie se base sur la théorie de l'anamorphose de Jacques Lacan, ainsi que sur le concept de la "troisième personne" proposé récemment par le philosophe Roberto Esposito. La seconde partie de la thèse aborde la problématique de la confrontation de l'écriture des Wu Ming à la situation socio-politique internationale contemporaine, soit comment leur ré-écriture de l'histoire s'insère dans la situation biopolitique globale. Dans les romans des Wu Ming on voit surgir une interprétation de cette situation globale qui dépasse les notions classiques de l'État et du citoyen. Le concept du biopolitique se prête à diverses interprétations: dans ses écrits des années 1970, Michel Foucault, qui est un des théoriciens majeurs du biopouvoir et de la biopolitique, ne parvient pas à proposer une interprétation unique et précise de ce dernier concept. Plusieurs philosophes italiens ont repris ce discours en le développant chacun à sa manière. Certains, comme Paolo Virno et, un peu plus tard Toni Negri, voient dans la notion de la Multitude une possibilité pour équilibrer le rapport pouvoir/personne et par conséquent pour développer de nouvelles possibilités révolutionnaires pour la déconstruction du biopouvoir. Les Wu Ming semblent suivre la voie positive de la multitude, qui selon leur conception correspond plus à une interprétation néo-marxiste de l’histoire., My thesis presents an attentive analysis of the rewriting of history, articulated in three novels of the group of Italian authors publishing under the pseudonym Wu Ming: "Q", "54" and "Manituana". Starting from the pamphlet published by the Wu Ming in 2008, on their conception of the historical novel and the romantic writing in general, the New Italian Epic (NIE), I propose two ways to put in evidence the review of History that emerges from the novels mentioned above: the notion of the oblique gaze (mentioned in the NIE); and the concept of the multitude. The technique of the oblique gaze implies a reflexion on the narration, a "mise en abyme" of the narrative process which is made by the way of an unusual point of view. This technique already has some litterary precedents in the works of writers such as Italo Calvino or Thomas Pynchon,*but in the new form that it aquires in the texts of the Wu MIng, it allows the articulation of a transversal review of history. This transversal review emerging from the novels of the Wu Ming is analysed in the first part of the thesis. The conceptualization of the oblique gaze that I develop in this section is based on the theory of the Anamorphosis of Jacques Lacan, in addition to the concept of the "Third person" suggested recently by the philosopher Roberto Esposito. The second part of the thesis focuses on Wu Ming’s analysis and interpretation of the contemporary socio-political situation, namely how their re-writing of history is inserted in the global biopolitical situation. In the novels of the Wu Ming we observe the emergence of an interpretation of this global situation which subverts the classical notions of the State and the citizen. The concept of biopolitics lends itself to different interpretations: in his writings of the 1970's, Michel Foucault, who is one of the major theorists of biopower and biopolitics, does not succeed in suggesting a unique and precise interpretation of this concept. Many Italian philosophers have worked on this notion, each one of them developping it in her own way. Some, such as Paolo Virno and, some time later Toni Negri, see in the concept of the multitude a possibility to balance the rapport power/people and therefore to develop new revolutionary possibilities for the deconstruction of the biopower. The Wu MIng seem to follow the positive reading of the multitude, which according to their conception, corresponds more to a neo-marxist interpretation of History., Nella mia tesi esamino l’emergenza di una riscrittura della Storia proposta dai tre romanzi: Q, 54 e Manituana, del collettivo di scrittori italiani che pubblicano sotto lo pseudonimo Wu Ming, i quali, attraverso una nuova proposta di romanzo storico e lo sguardo della Moltitudine, rimettono in questione la struttura del biopotere. Da un’attenta analisi dei testi sopracitati fuoriescono le peculiarità di un nuovo modo di concepire il romanzo storico in cui, fra le varie caratteristiche emerge quella dello “sguardo obliquo”, tecnica basata nell’esporre al lettore la narrazione facendola provenire da un punto di vista che non è quello che solitamente ci si attende, ma piuttosto un punto di vista insolito che può provenire da animali, oggetti animati, o addirittura da oggetti misteriosi come flussi immateriali. Questa tecnica ha già visto alcuni illustri precedenti letterari nelle sperimentazioni di scrittori quali Italo Calvino o Thomas Pynchon, ma nella nuova forma che fuoriesce dalla scrittura dei Wu Ming acquista la particolare capacità di leggere la storia in un contesto che si accosta in modo accentuato alle problematiche del contemporaneo. L’analisi di questa lettura trasversale, che copre la prima parte della tesi, è stata effettuata con l’aiuto di alcune teorie come quelle dell’Anamorfosi di Jacques Lacan, ma è attraverso il concetto della “terza persona”, riproposto recentemente da Roberto Esposito, che ho inquadrato lo sguardo obliquo come essenza estranea al rapporto dialogico io/tu. Nella seconda parte della tesi affronto la problematica dell’allineamento della scrittura dei Wu Ming alla situazione socio-politica internazionale contemporanea; detta in altre parole cerco di far emergere come la loro riscrittura della storia si inserisca nella situazione biopolitica globale. Nei romanzi dei Wu Ming, infatti, si scorge un’interpretazione del contemporaneo che sorpassa le categorie classiche di Stato e cittadino in favore di un’idea di egemonia universale esercitante un bio-potere globale. Il concetto di biopolitica si apre a varie interpretazioni. Già dalle prime iniziative negli anni Settanta Michel Foucault si era trovato in una situazione di ambigua difficoltà nel poter dare un’interpretazione unica e precisa dei concetti da lui stesso proposti. Vari filosofi italiani hanno ripreso questo discorso incompiuto sviluppandogli intorno una parte importante del proprio pensiero, ognuno però scegliendo una propria strada. Alcuni di loro come Paolo Virno e, successivamente, Toni Negri vedono nella categoria della “Moltitudine” una possibile via per equilibrare il rapporto Potere/persona e quindi ottenere nuove possibilità rivoluzionarie per poter decostruire il biopotere. This essay attempts to think the relation between Italian philosopher Roberto Esposito’s work on biopolitics and immunity alongside contemporary issues in continental legal studies. Drawing extensively on Esposito’s unpolitical and more recent biopolitical writings, the author finds in the notions of norm and immunity potential areas for constructing a “biojuridical” approach to the law. Glossing Esposito’s reading of immunization as an attempt to construct a possible law of “reciprocal immanence” between norm and life, the author argues that it is possible to glean in Esposito’s more recent work a move beyond the immunitary features of the law to a “law of the living” that is capable of vitalizing norms. Such a law would, by identifying individual potentialities, defend the infinite production of difference and singularity that is bios, paving the way for laws that are immanent to bios.

Članak pokušava ponovno iznijeti na svjetlo dana filozofsko pozicioniranje mogućnosti konstitucije (političke) zajednice. Jedno od osnovnih pitanja svake političke teorije jest upravo ono o zajednici stoga što je paradigma liberalne demokracije, koja prevladava u suvremenom svjetskom poretku, posve potisnula aktualitet pitanja o političkoj zajednici. Članak nas u temu uvodi preko biopolitičke filozofije. Radi se ponajprije o elaboracijama Roberta Esposita o zajedničkom korijenu termina communitas i immunitas. Nadalje, izvodi se vrlo relevantna analiza filozofskog pristupa zajednici koje se poduhvaća Jean- -Luc Nancy. Slijedi Espositov pokušaj dovođenja u vezu demokracije i zajednice. Na koncu, još se jednom pokušavaju osmisliti mogući filozofijski, ali i praktički putevi za tematiziranje zajednice.

Ovaj članak propituje socijalno-političke posljedice nasljeđa jednog povijesnog totalitarističkog koncepta. Radi se o fenomenu »fašizma«. Ima li fašizam neku teorijsku, ali i praktičku aktualnost u suvremenom »novom svjetskom poretku«? S unaprijed pretpostavljenim odgovorom da je tomu doista tako, nameću se argumentacijske strategije objašnjenja same pojave fašizma u suvremenosti. Pitanje u naslovu parafrazira naslove dviju važnih knjiga. Radi se o knjizi Giorgia Agambena Ono što ostaje od Auschwitza, te o zbirci tekstova Rastka Močnika, skupljenih pod naslovom Koliko fašizma? Članak pokušava elaborirati samozadanu tematiku preko problematike »biopolitike«. U tu je svrhu kao inspirativan model poslužila teorija imunizacije/imunitarnosti talijanskog filozofa Roberta Esposita. Kroz nju se pokazuje strukturna neizbježnost fašizma u okviru neo-liberalizma u njegovoj (auto)imunitarnoj paradigmi. Njegovo »količinsko« smanjenje vezano je uz politiku solidarnosti i javnog prostora (kroz zajednicu)., This article examines socio-political consequences of the heritage of one of the historical totalitarian concepts. It is a phenomenon of “fascism”. Does fascism have any theoretical, but also practical actuality in the contemporary “new world order”? With the pre-assumption that it is the matter of fact, certain argumentation strategies of explanation of the appearance of fascism in present days are imposed. Question in the title paraphrases titles of two important books. It is a book by Giorgio Agamben, Remnants of Auschwitz, and a collection of essays by Rastko Močnik, collected under the title How Much Fascism? This article tries to elaborate this selfimposed subject through the issue of “biopolitics”. For this purpose, as an inspiring model, the theory of immunization/immunitarity presented by the Italian philosopher Roberto Esposito is used. Through that theory a structural inevitability of fascism in the framework of neo-liberalism shows itself in the (auto)immunitarian paradigm. The “quantitative” reduction of fascism is related to the policy of solidarity and public sphere (through the community).
