The coral reefs of French Polynesia (FP) have experienced repeated macroalgal blooms over the last decades. These events have prompted intense efforts in fundamental and applied research on macroalgae in this ecoregion, especially regarding species of the order Fucales (Turbinaria ornata and Sargassum pacificum). Recently, however, these proliferations have occurred with a higher frequency, and they now involve additional species. Specifically, over the past decade, the abundance of species belonging to the Dictyotaceae family (e.g., Dictyota bartayresiana and Spatoglossum asperum) has increased on coral reefs around Tahiti Island, the largest and most inhabited island in FP. On the course of evolution, these species have developed physical and chemical defenses to deter grazers, including the production of a wide array of specialized metabolites. These molecules are of particular interest for their promising biological activities as well as for the new Blue Economy opportunities they can offer to FP. We review the current state of knowledge on the diversity, ecology, and potential uses of Dictyotaceae species present in FP. The first section focuses on the diversity and distribution of the family Dictyotaceae in FP. The second part examines the ecological dynamics of Dictyotaceae species in the coral reef ecosystem and their response to various environmental factors. The third and final part reviews the metabolites known from Dictyotaceae species that are present in FP, their associated biological activities, and potential for the development of biotechnological applications in FP. Globalization is the phenomenon that gradually integrates the economies through the exchange of capital, goods, manpower, technology and intellect among the nations, which fosters their interdependence around the globe. Since the dawn of time, we have seen three phases of globalization in the national economies. Now we have entered the fourth wave of the industrial revolution 'Globalization 4.0' is a fusion of technologies that is erasing the lines between the physical, digital and biological spheres. This article aims at exploring the depth of the 'Fourth Industrial Revolution' (4IR) and investigating the dark side of 'Globalization 4.0'. It also gives some insights into the requirement for its future approach. The study concludes that this revolution will help in developing a new approach to the new economy by transforming the technological system of health, education, communication, production, energy and distribution sector. This transformation is associated with the major challenge of operating the rapid emergence of ecological restraint, the advent of an increasingly multipolar international order, and the rising of inequality. It is an inevitable requirement of the realization of Chinese rural revitalizing strategies to achieve high-quality development of rural economy. In this essay, the evaluation system for high-quality development of rural economy in the new era is constructed from six dimensions, including innovative development, infrastructure, ecological environment, economic achievements, economic stability and market mechanism and the method of entropy weight-fuzzy comprehensive evaluation is adopted to measure the levels of high-quality comprehensive development of rural economy of 30 provinces and cities of China in 2017. The research finds that the dimensional weight of ecological environment is the biggest, which is 31.76%, followed by infrastructure, economic achievements, economic stability, innovative development and market mechanism from large to small. The level of high-quality development of rural economy in China is generally low and a majority of the provinces are backward. Therefore, to grasp the development status of Chinese rural economy and clarify balanced development between regions could provide basis for promoting comprehensively high-quality development of Chinese rural economy. Digital economy is the new engine for economic growth. A well statistic measure for digital economy is helpful to formulate relevant development strategy and accelerate the high quality development of the national economy. The high speed, innovation level and wide radiant scope of digital economy raise some new topics for its measure and accounting. In this study, the present situation and connotation of digital economy measure is ana­lyzed. Some problems, survey method and accounting way of digital measure are discussed. Abstract The white-collar ideal worker norm helps to explain why social inequality persists in the workplace, yet the concept reflects corporate workplaces of the mid-twentieth century. This article identifies emerging cultural ideals for white-collar workers in today's economy by examining the experiences of high earners in financial services. Despite its glorification of flexibility and independence, scholars have shown how the "new economy" produces different forms of inequality at work than in the post-World War II era. Drawing from interviews with 48 hedge fund workers and field observations at workplaces and industry events, I bring together well-known features of work in the new economy to update the white-collar ideal worker norm to reflect changes in the organization of work. I call this the portfolio ideal because it captures how white-collar workers must make ongoing investments in resources and development to create a portfolio of skills and experiences that allows them to navigate the turbulence of the neoliberal new economy. As portfolio workers, hedge fund workers identify as independent workers, value a passion for the work, take risks to get ahead, and invest in social capital. Although it appears to be disembodied, the portfolio norm reflects implicit assumptions about gender, race, and social class. By shedding light on cultural responses to job polarization and income inequality, this research helps to identify a shift from a more collective work arrangement to one that is individually oriented, which transfers the risks of employment from employers to workers. This article theorizes the commodification of the recent resurgence of feminist activism through the concept of "feminist commodity activism." The focus is on the mass popularization of feminist-themed commodities, with T-shirts as a particular focus. First, I discuss how the mass marketing of feminist goods ties in with: (a) commodity feminism, by refetishizing commodities and consumption as empowering for women; (b) neoliberal feminism, through the construction of the feminist as an economic and choice-making subject; and (c) commodity activism, by entangling feminism with the discourses and practices of ethical consumption. Building on these concepts, I propose "feminist commodity activism" as a way to capture and further analyze the current commodification of feminism activism occurring at their intersection. I argue that feminist commodity activism instigates three further shifts: the commodification of the aesthetic experience of feminist street protest; the transfer of feminist activist agency to companies, charities, and entrepreneurs; and the branding of the feminist as a subject of value. The cities of San Diego and Tijuana have long been economically interdependent. Today, each represents the bifurcated character of the new economy wherein low wage labor in Mexico is used to underwrite the quality of life for the middle class in the United States. This article traces the political origin of this economic structure. Instead of a top-down orchestration of neoliberal governance, the contours of the New Economy were formed through a process of contestation: a battle between international capital and its demands for profit and San Diego's white middle class homeowners dedicated to maintaining their quality of life by resisting border integration. As China's economy enters a new normal, economic growth shifts from factor investment to innovation. The quality of government needs to be improved to create a good environment for the development of innovation and entrepreneurship. This paper uses the CGSS data to empirically study the impact of government quality on the happiness of entrepreneurs. Research shows that the improvement of government quality can significantly improve the self-rated happiness of entrepreneurs, but these three dimensions have different effects, and only the public goods supply index has a significant impact. According to the analysis by region and city level, the government quality has a significant impact on the happiness of entrepreneurs in the less-developed non-eastern and non-provincial cities, but insignificant in the eastern and provincial cities. This article focuses on five flaws of Christian Fuchs' approach of Web 2.0 economy. Here, Fuchs' views on immaterial production, productivity of labor, commodification of users' data, underestimation of financial aspects of digital economy, and the violation of Marx's laws of value production, rate of exploitation, fall tendency of profit rate, and overproduction crisis are put into question. This article defends the thesis Fuchs fails to apply Marxian political economy to the contemporary phenomena of Web 2.0. economy. Purpose: In recent years, short-term sharing accommodation platforms such as Airbnb have made rapid forays in populous cities worldwide, impacting neighborhoods profoundly. Emerging work has focused on demand-side motivations to engage in the sharing economy. The purpose of this paper is to analyze rarely examined supply-side motivations of providers. Design/methodology/approach: To address this gap and to illuminate understanding of how Airbnb supply is configured and influenced, this study examines spatial patterns and socioeconomic influences on participation in the sharing accommodation economy by Airbnb hosts in New York City (NYC). An exploratory conceptual model of host participation is induced, which posits associations of demographic, economic, employment, social capital attributes, and attitudes toward trust and sustainability with host participation, measured by Airbnb property density in neighborhoods. Methods employed include ordinary least squares (OLS) regression, k-means cluster analysis and spatial analytics. Findings: Spatially, clusters of high host densities are in Manhattan and northern Brooklyn and there is little proportionate change longitudinally. OLS regression findings reveal that gender ratio, black race/ethnicity, median household income, and professional, scientific, and technical occupation, and attitudes toward sustainability for property types are dominant correlates of property density, while host trust in customers is not supported. Research limitations/implications: These results along with differences between Queens and Manhattan boroughs have implications for hosts sharing their homes and for city managers to formulate policies and regulate short-term rental markets in impacted neighborhoods. Originality/value: The study is novel in conceptualizing and analyzing the supply-side provider motivations of the sharing accommodation economy. Given the patent economic disparities that exist in the United States and the world, there is a need to rethink the economy from new perspectives. So, with the current circumstances, the market can no longer be the central axis of economics, nor can neoliberalism be the only foundation on which it is built. Crowdfunding (CF) has experienced impressive growth in recent years with the development of internet and information technologies that increased the participation of the "crowd" to fund entrepreneurial projects. Young entrepreneurs, especially well-qualified students, have recently begun to play a new role in the economy by launching new ventures in niche markets. The aim of the present paper is to provide a deeper understanding of CF among Portuguese young potential entrepreneurs as an alternative funding mechanism, by discussing its main characteristics and the perceived benefits and barriers that might drive young entrepreneurs to post a project on a CF platform or discourage its use. Through an online survey, we query well-qualified students about the knowledge they have about crowdfunding and benefits and barriers that can increase or reduce the possibility of funding to launch a new venture. The results show that potential young entrepreneurs have moderate knowledge about CF. Consequently, they are not able to explore all the business models available, specifically the models related to investment (lending and equity). The respondents perceive several benefits of the use of CF that go beyond the financial advantages, such as the communication of the project to a wider audience and the additional feedback from potential customers. The perceived barriers that could deter the use of CF are related to the implementation of the CF campaign, although contextual constraints have been mentioned. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The proper prediction of water sales revenue allows for pricing policies with a specified trend for the optimized use of water resources. The present work focuses on the prediction of the economic status of water sales revenue in a semi-arid environment. To meet this objective, evaporation data (E), dam input water volume (I), and dam output water volume (O) are used as independent factors to estimate water revenue (R) in the case study of Jiroft Dam, Iran. Different machine learning models are used, including classification and regression tree (CART), Chi-squared automatic interaction detector (CHAID), multi-layer perceptron neural network (MLP), and radial basis function neural network (RBF). The data are obtained daily from 20 March 2012 to 20 March 2015 and defined in six input combinations to the models using multicollinearity analyses. To compare these models, the Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient (NSEC), the root mean square error (RMSE), and the coefficient of correlation (CC) criteria are employed. All the models act better when records of water sales revenue are incorporated as additional input factors to the machine learning models. The MLP neural-based model indicates the best predicted values for daily water sales revenue (RMSE = 638.3 $ and CC = 0.798) followed by the RBF neural model (RMSE = 655.1 $ and CC = 0.786). Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explore the long-run relationship and causality between economic activity and inbound tourism in the context of the Indonesian economy with a new quantitative methodology. Design/methodology/approach: This research applies a new modified bounds testing approach of Pesaran et al. (2001) by Kripfganz and Schneider (2018) with the period of observation from 1974 to 2017. Findings: The results suggest that there is a unidirectional causality from economic activity to inbound tourism. Research limitations/implications: This research applies the linear autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model and only uses bivariate variables to examine the existence of the tourism-led growth hypothesis. Further studies for the Indonesian case may apply a nonlinear ARDL model. Also, the addition of other socio-economic variables, especially those related to domestic tourism activity, can be applied to improve the model. Practical implications: This work will provide an alternative quantitative methodology for scholars in studying the relationship between tourism and economic variables. Social implications: The findings in this research can complement touristic-public policy decision, and the methodology may be important for knowledge transfer. While the sharing economy brings significant social benefits in China, it comes with regulatory challenges that are novel and unpredictable. How should regulators handle these challenges? This paper offers fresh insights into the regulatory approach to the ride-hailing industry, the most comprehensively regulated sharing industry in China. A historical review identifies three regulatory approaches deployed to date: self-regulation, market-based regulation and government regulation. Self-regulation relies on the platforms with incentive to provide better service for greater profit, and to deal with sharing-specific challenges. Market-based regulation invites rivals to keep a watchful eye on other players, in order to enhance their market position by outperforming the competition. Both approaches are capable of delivering quick, and often innovative, responses to new challenges. Government regulation, on the other hand, came late and plays a neutral role. The rules there are mostly of the "old wine in a new bottle" kind; in other words, applying existing (old) rules to the new sharing economy. Those rules could contribute to a level playing field for traditional and sharing-market players if managed properly. This article argues that government regulations are inadequate for solving sharing-specific challenges such as the legal status of the participants, the challenges of uncertain externalities, and new forms of competition. Instead, regulators should in the future give more affirmative value to self-regulation and market-based regulation. These complementary approaches are capable of yielding innovative and sharing-specific regulatory responses, from which the government regulators can glean and evaluate before codifying them. This review essay is a generative reading of four monographs and one special issue to rethink the discipline of International Relations (IR) and its syllabus anticolonially. At the centre of White Innocence by Gloria Wekker, In the Wake: On Blackness and Being, by Christina Sharpe, The Colonial Lives of Property by Brenna Bhandar, Beyond Coloniality by Aaron Kamugisha and the New Political Economy special issue titled Raced Markets edited by Robbie Shilliam and Lisa Tilley are issues of race and racism, neoliberalism and capital and (the afterlives of) colonisation and slavery. This essay deploys a narrative approach of the autobiographical example to write the themes and arguments of the works onto the international everyday, i.c. a period of five months (April-September 2019) and the five places (Toronto, Stellenbosch, (New) England, Ghana and Puerto Rico) in which these works were read. First, the themes of racism, capitalism and coloniality – to varying degrees disavowed and erased in both IR as a discipline and public opinion – appear as persistent, pervasive yet adapting across time, space and situatedness. Second, both the autobiographical examples and the works point at the equally omnipresent cracks in the system and invite reflection on anticolonial alternatives (of solidarity). In conclusion, the essay explores how these works could inform reconceptualisation of the IR syllabus, towards a discipline that engages with the world rather than itself, against the colonial status quo. The foreign language class had to be re-invented during the last decade. This was mainly the result of the rapid development of technology. Foreign language teachers may have come to realize that the world was changing at full speed and, because of that, they had to keep themselves updated in order to face the challenges of the new world. The aim of this paper is to show how technology and the online medium have come to be used in the ESP classes (English for Specific Purposes - Medical English taught to medical students at the "Grigore T. Popa" University of Medicine, Iasi, Romania). The paper also discusses the role of the English language in the context of being the lingua franca of the Internet. In the latest years, the ESP classes have changed out of this necessity to understand the more complex role of the English teacher. Old methodologies were no longer sufficient to transfer an updated amount of information to our students. Therefore the paper also discusses how ESP teachers have started to use English as a medium of instruction in order to touch upon some various and relevant topics related to the medical field. In the new economy of things, by means of the English language, students may get useful knowledge related to their future profession, the ESP class becoming thus an opportunity to practice interdisciplinarity. Besides teaching ESP, we should also focus on how English may be used in order to make our students more aware of the challenges of their future profession and the impact and of the ways in which technology might have a great impact upon their medical activity. This article analyzes the contribution of local authorities, either cities or regions, to the new EU digital strategy, based on the acknowledgment of the need for strengthened coordination among societal actors for digital transformation. By using document analysis of the new policy documents on Digital Europe, the article postulates that the new digital policy is different from previous endeavors and, as such, more active involvement should be sought from various actors. The article lists two potential pillars in which local authorities contribute, namely either by direct involvement, based on the main ideas from the strategy, or by indirect involvement. The indirect involvement regards the building of trust and the encouragement of citizen participation so as to increase the transparency of digital transformation with ramifications up to the European level. Introduction: The birth of a new economy, collaborative call has been subject increasingly explored in various spheres of society. The possibility of raising a revolution in the economic and social environment in which we live is a matter of interest to researchers and scholars around the world. Both crowdfunding platforms as said social innovations are key symbolic aspects for the emergence and consolidation of this new economy. Objective: This research seeks to understand the influence and possible relationships of crowdfunding platforms and social innovation processes, based on a review of the main theoretical lines related to crowdfunding and social innovation matrices. Materials and methods: The method used was an exploratory case study. For this, a study was carried out on two of the most representative crowdfunding platforms in Brazil (Kickante and Vakinha) with interviews with their representatives and access to secondary data. Results: As a result, you can get a clearer perception of how crowdfunding tool operate in the country and how they can be promoters mechanisms of social innovation, and generating positive impacts in Brazilian society. Conclusions: The evaluation has led to the understanding that crowdfunding platforms, combined with social welfare projects, often result in practices compatible with the concepts of social innovation, resulting in significant improvements for society. In this article, I foreground the granular movements that determine the ubiquitous nature of India's new media economy created by the advent of streaming media platforms and the emergence of regional online content creators in India. I argue that the increasing preference of Indian audiences to consume online content in their own language has led to a demand for 'regional' content, whereby streaming platforms and online creators are increasingly investing in 'non-Hindi' and 'non-English' language content to cater to the linguistically and culturally diverse Indian population. Through a primary focus on online content creation practices in Bengali and Marathi languages, the article explores their 'local', 'regional', 'transnational' and 'global' appeal, and subsequent blurring of boundaries between 'regionalization' and 'localization'. The remainder of the article focuses on the emerging diaspora of regional online content creators who are adopting distinct content strategies to develop relationships with online communities based on commonalities of language and culture. This paper suggests that the liberal state in market society presents an inherent tension between liberalism and democracy. It shows how the tradition of liberal political economy provides for a constitutional form that supports specific and contestable values, relies on depoliticising the foundation of those values (especially in relation to private property and the bases of commercial society), and the exercise of authority – enshrined in the Rule of Law and backed by the force of law. The paper suggests that this has been poorly mediated in mainstream discourse, but that Moore and Lloyd's V for Vendetta provides an astute vernacular critique of the liberal state by developing clearly recognisable allegories of Thatcherite political economy that illustrate the formal nature of justice and democracy under the liberal state form. The paper makes the specific claim that V for Vendetta can be read as a significant critique of the political economy of the liberal state, and the more general claim that cultural artefacts have the potential to develop important insights into the relationship between state, economy, and society in keeping with the traditions of the 'new political economy'. In a recent article for this journal, Stuart, D., Gunderson, R., and Petersen, B. [(2017). Climate change and the Polanyian counter-movement: carbon markets or degrowth? New political economy, 1–14. doi:] discuss solutions to climate change in terms of Karl Polanyi's concept of the double movement. They set up their argument as a critique of my own article on the topic to make the point that carbon markets do not constitute a genuine form of such countermovement. I'm sympathetic to the critique of carbon markets that the authors present, as well as their discussion of degrowth, which mirrors a by now extensive literature demonstrating the pitfalls respectively the necessity of these diametrically opposed approaches to the current socioecological crisis. However, in setting up their case the authors provide an overly optimistic reading of Polanyi that I believe misses a crucial part of his argument, a reading that at least partly explains our differences in opinion. This commentary offers a friendly critique of Stuart et al.'s use of Polanyi and clarifies the argument in my previous text that the authors take issue with. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Evidence in favour of the ability of the term spread to forecast economic growth of the South African economy is non-existent. This could be due to the term spread aggregating information contained in the expected spread and the term premium. To decompose the term spread into its subcomponents, we develop an estimable small open economy new Keynesian dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (SOENKDSGE) model of the inflation targeting South African economy. The SOENKDSGE model is estimated with Bayesian methods over the quarterly period of 2000:01–2014:04. We then use a linear predictive regression framework to analyse the out-of-sample forecasting ability of the aggregate term spread, as well as the expected spread and term premium. Our forecasting results fail to detect forecasting gains from the aggregate term spread and also the term premium, but the expected spread is found to contain important information in forecasting output growth over short- to medium-run horizons, over the period of 2004:01–2014:04, using an in-sample period of 2000:01–2003:04. China's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2019 grew by 6.1% in the face of rising global uncertainties and underperforming structural reforms. Productivity growth had also slowed down, and this is associated with resource misallocation at the micro level. In 2019, the Chinese government had introduced various policies to promote productivity and to support the new economy. Current economy is driven by innovation and knowledge. Sharing economy is a new perspective on economics that impulses a new economy based on trust. In this article, the key components of global education business, based on the analysis of different types of business cases such as edX, Coursera, Udacity, Udemy, and Codecademy are established. For this research we carried out a systematic literature review based on different cases to highlight some of the main advantages of the models of global education services based on sharing economy, as a result, we found out that the main components of the learning platform business model in sharing economy are related to the online cash concept, shared resources, shared knowledge access, networking collaboration, analysis based on big data, joint consumption, rather than ownership while the government loses monopolies of knowledge. The most influential factors in the life of every person and of humanity as a whole during the last 30-40 years are the processes of globalization. Hundreds of books and thousands of articles are devoted to the study of their development, evaluation methodologies and problems that arise in this area. In order to help the current generation of young people better understand themselves and the processes of globalization, their positive possibilities, and, also, to prevent their negative impact on the life of the planetary community, individual countries and human experts in the field of new megascience «global studies» prepared and used in higher education special textbooks. One of the latest is the book «Globalization and global studies» prepared by Prof. V. Zinchenko.

The context of this paper is that of legal professional support for sustainable economy initiatives. Practices that blur the line between law and non-law as a strategy are often viewed by those who found such initiatives as part of an important reframing of economic transactions. The central claim of this paper is that legal professional identities are challenged, and even undermined, by the relational work performed in constituting sustainable economy initiatives. Two distinct lines of argument are made. First, practices that stretch the boundary between law and not-law establish relationalities that challenge legal professional identity. Secondly, legal professional identity is challenged by the work of clarifying regulatory grey areas, typically where practices draw the boundary between personal and commercial in novel ways that undercut or are unforeseen by existing legal rules. The paper concludes by suggesting the constitutive implication of this boundary work is the emerging figure of the community enterprise lawyer. El contexto de este artículo es el del apoyo jurídico profesional a iniciativas de sostenibilidad económica. La tesis central de este artículo es que el trabajo relacional que tiene lugar en la fase de constitución de dichas iniciativas pone en cuestión, e incluso mina, las identidades jurídicas profesionales. Se describen dos líneas argumentales. Primero, las prácticas que fuerzan el límite de lo legal y lo no legal establecen relaciones que cuestionan la identidad jurídica profesional. Segundo, la identidad jurídica profesional se pone en cuestión durante el trabajo de clarificar áreas grises de la regulación, normalmente aquéllas donde las prácticas marcan el límite entre lo personal y lo profesional en formas que cortocircuitan las normas legales existentes. The desire to "do what you love" energizes employment and engagement in creative industries such as digital gaming yet drains hobbyists and aspirants by normalizing expectations to sacrifice job security for passionate work. This article investigates how individuals regulate their aspirations through taken-for-granted trade-offs between vocational compromise and compensation. Multi-sited ethnographic fieldwork with players at fan conventions and recruitment events in North America suggests a moral calculus of corruption and sublimation between passion and profit, which can be traced back to industrialization's cleavage of labor from recreation and its institution of hobbies as productive leisure. Building on existing research about waged labor's imagined denigration of hobbies, this argument juxtaposes the passion that is corruptible by work and the passion that promises to sublimate work from drudgery. Interrogating this confounding logic cultivates counter-narratives for purposeful livelihoods beyond industrial-era notions of productivity and neoliberal notions of passion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

After the analysis of the problems of the relationship between the life cycle of energy industry development and the regional ecological environment, the paper quantitatively studies the interests of all parties and key policy variables of the reform process of the energy industry system based on the microeconomic theory of carbon tax and carbon trading cost. At the same time, the paper regards the mechanism of the development in the new energy industry as the object of empirical study in Hebei province, China, and establishes the model of profit distribution in the regional energy industrial cluster. The satisfaction of human needs requires resources, tangible ones, metals, machineries ... and less tangible ones like human time and human capital. Specialization creates a distance between resources and needs. Industrialization and its successor, globalization, have kept increasing this distance, along its geographical dimension, but also along its organizational dimension. Specialization poses numerous challenges: information collection, coordination, communication, motivation, enforcement ... Since the early industrialization transformation of the artisan shop, firms are the main response to these challenges. Firms have devoted an increasing amount of human resources to management tasks over the last century. An avenue to account for the growing popularity of PM among firms under globalization is to show how PM approach can be, in some context, a more economical way to organize management tasks than traditional business management. The paper presents, first, the hypothesis from a historical perspective, using a concept of distance from theory of value and transaction cost analysis. This translates management tasks into costs but lacks preciseness. From another perspective, a structured set of management tasks is a graph connecting a pool of resources in some location(s) with things fulfilling needs elsewhere. The hypothesis becomes one about the properties of the graphs, such as the relative duration of the critical path, of the PM and other approaches to meeting some of the challenges, for instance coordination, raised by specialization. The focus of our study is on determining whether unemployment rates in 8 New Industrialized Economies conform to the natural rate hypothesis or the hysteresis hypothesis. To this end, we employ a variety of unit of unit root testing procedures to quarterly data collected between 2002:q1 and 2017:q1. Summarizing of our findings, conventional unit root tests which account neither for asymmetries nor structural breaks produce the most inconclusive results. On the other hand, tests which incorporate structural breaks while ignoring asymmetries tends to favour the natural rate hypothesis for our panel of countries. However, simultaneously accounting for asymmetries and unobserved structural breaks seemingly produces the most robust findings and confirms hysteresis in all unemployment rates except for Asian economies/countries of Thailand and the Philippines.
